Dell Precision M4300 :: How To Check If Flash Cache Module Was Included In Laptop Config
Feb 19, 2013
According to [URL] ..., Dell M4300 laptop bought several years ago might include Flash Cache Module. Dell BIOS allows to enable FCM. Is there a way to check whether the module is actually installed w/o physically opening up the laptop? What part number or name might it have in System Configuration on Dell Support web-site? It shows that the laptop was shipped with 200GB SATA HDD (part no WT611 - [URL] ...., but there are no components listed with "FCM" or "flash" in their names.
I want to upgrade the hard drive on my son's Precision M4300 laptop. In reading the review, I see that the Seagate ST9500420AS rates the highest, with the Western Digital Scorpios following.
I want to know if anyone has had any experience with the ST9500420AS in this particular laptop.
Seagate admits that there are issues with the ASG model in Dell machines, but claim that there are no issues with the AS model
Wats up everyone,i was just wondering,if any one could give me feedback on what difference performance wise 6mb cache(with 2.80GHz) would make on the Studio Xps 16(or any laptop for that matter) Versus the 3mb that comes with the 2.4GHZ? thanks in advance
I have an M4300 notebook with a Quadro FX 360m as the GPU. Now, my problem is that it is automatically downclocked by about half after it reaches a temperature of 85C. I *would* be able to play Crysis (low, of course) at around 30 FPS if it weren't for this.
I thought it might be a BIOS problem; therefore, I downgraded to A02 (I had A13), but that didn't work, so I upgraded again.
I thought maybe it was the graphics drivers;
so, I installed the next lowest ones, but that didn't work either, so I re-installed the newer ones.
my laptop is not booting any more. Looks like everything turns on but all I get is a black screen and two beeps. If I press some keys I get the two beeps again.
Changed the mother board battery and RAM but no results.
On my first windows install on my Zbook 17, the OS installed the System Reserved partition on the flash cache SSD. I figured I'd do a reinstall when I ordered and installed a 1tb SSD. I removed all HDDs and the flash cache, installed the OS, then turned off the computer and re-installed the flash cache. Now when I try to boot it gives me 5 blinks on the caps/num lock along with a lovely black screen.
I recently got a Dell Precision M4300 from a friend and had a few questions.
When i got the laptop, I reformatted the Laptop and Reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2. I proceeded from Microsoft to Update to SP3 and so on.
Well I also Went to Dell's Website and downloaded all the necessary drivers (using the service tag) for this laptop and installed them.
Now here is where I ran into a problem,
When I installed the NVIDIA drivers for the NVidia Quadro FX 360M video card, everything seemed to go fine. Then I rebooted the Laptop, and now every time I reboot, my hardware acceleration is defaulted back to None, and it gives me multiple pop ups about this issue. I go into the settings and turn the Acceleration back to full and it goes away.
This is a major problem, and is really frustrating to deal with everytime the laptop is booted up.
My other problem, is when I open up Internet Explorer, It tends to lock up the browser for no reason when Loading a website. I then CTRL+ALT+DEL and attempt to close iexplore.exe via the task manager. It closes the browser but does not shut down the browser, making it impossible to browse, so then I have to reboot.
here are the specs of the PC, from the device manager and drivers I have gotten
Dell Precision M4300 NVidia Quadro FX 360M 512mb Video Graphics Card TSST 8x dvd+-R burner 120GB Hard Drive 3.5GB of Ram 2.5GHZ T9300 Core 2 Duo Processor 1394 Port 2 USB ports External Monitor Ports Wifi Support Bluetooth Support Windows XP SP2 Pro
I have a year old DV9774ca with bluetooth. I never used it. My wife has a Toshiba laptop without bluetooth and wants to use a bluetooth mouse. Can I take out my bluetooth adapter and put it in hers? I have not seen or handled one before.
Its ays its a HP Integrated Bluetooth Module. The "integrated" doesn't make it sound as simple as I hoped!
I have Dell inspiron 7520SE  laptop which has two configurations with mSATA connection and preinstalled mSATA card and without mSATA connection. Mine is without preinstalled mSATA card, but I found in bios
mSATA Device : [Not detected]
So does that mean my laptop supports mSATA (but it is empty) or this is just some error, and is there a way to check if my laptop has support for mSATA withou pulling it apart ?
I was wondering how can i check battery health on my SZ4?
On my other laptop (IBM T42) there is a factory utility, it shows date of manufacturing of this particalar battery, how many times it was recharged, full factory capacity, and current battery capacity. I cannot find this information on my Vaio laptop.
Just received my brand new, shiny, sparkling dv6t Quad Ed. laptop. I would like to make sure that everything is right with it in the 21 days window otherwise return the machine for a replacement.
- What all should I check/test and how, to make sure nothing's wrong with it?
- What are some of the recurring, common issues I should check for?
- How can I stress test this laptop apart from wPrime? I dont have any games.
This one currently has A07, and I know it needs to flash A09 before bumping up to the current A13, but A09 stops right after launch (".....unexpectedly quit..."). Logged in with Admin rights, not seeing any reason for BIOS failure. Another download of the A09 was tried as well.
I should have left it alone but I've never had a bios go corrupt during update. Had A03 BIOS and attempted to update to A09.
Laptop locked up during the flash and now it doesn't even show the bios start up! I removed the BIOS battery and LT battery. Maybe I need to wait longer then 5 mins for the entire system to discharge and then try power up again. So far just a black screen!Â
I just got one problem fixed with loading a new hard drive now this.
I just ordered a new XPS lappie from Dell. I couldn't get the lady in TX to give me a better deal than the online price (her loss), so I went back on Dell's website and got a gent from India on chat. He had me email him the config I wanted, he then called and gave me approx. $345 more off ($2069 versus $2414), plus I got a few small "extras" I wasn't expecting (leather accent on case, 3 years of McAfee versus 1, etc). I had to deny hi first offer (about $200 off) before he offered me the best deal.
I also opted for the LoJack Premium for 3 years, since it wasn't in the promotional configuration he was able to offer, which added $84.99. FWIW, the $2414 online config did offer 1 year of LoJack for free, which normally runs $32.99 to 45.99 (depending if Standard or Premium edition), so if you take that off the price I still saved $299 to $312).
Here's my config (thanks for commenting, in advance):

Here are the videos. They are god-awful small and blurry, BUT you can still clearly see the distortion. I'm also using a unregistered version of a cropping software to make the files small enough to upload to yourfilehost.com, so there are banners on them. They are also pretty darn short snippets (1 or 2 seconds each... I need to lrn2compress)

This is me flying towards a red carpet in Shatt. Zoomed in on the carpet.

A building flickering at range in Battlefield 2142.

The waterline and metal textures of a boat flickering in SH4.

The flicker I experience between character selections on the WoW Character Selection screen. It is a brief frame between each character.

Another boat from SH4, showing the flicker disappear as I zoom closer.
All of these flickers, with the exception of the character screen flicker, disappear if I get close to the texture, which is why I HIGHLY suspect some problem with the z-buffer. Still, I am at a loss as to how to solve it.
I run Warcraft at 1920x1200 resolution, and the other two at 1600x1200 resolution.
This laptop isn't even one month old.. this is sincerely frustrating as i have alot of important work saved on here...
-When I plug in the charger.. the battery light turns on for a second then the battery light turns back off. -When I try to turn on the laptop with the charger plugged in.. nothing happens at all. When I try to turn on the laptop with just the battery without being plugged in.. the power button will light up for a second then go back off.
I've tried: taking out the battery and holding down the power light for 1 minute.. waited 30 seconds tried turning it on with the power chord with no prevail. holding Fn and turning it on and nothing
Some signs I've been seeing: only bad signs i've seen was before it just didn't boot anymore.. maybe twice out of the 6 last time i've booted.. as soon as i typed my password to get into windows it would just shut off. Â i'd jus reboot and it worked fine. when it stopped turning on.. after messing with plugging it in or not (i didn't know if the battery was dead) i was able to make it past the windows sign on screen.. was going to email myself all my work before it suddenly shut off on me again. the battery had maybe 1/3rd life before it died
I might have interchanged battery chargers with another older dell model laptop.. but i think only a few times at most.. it mostly sits at work on a docking station at work. Â i have a feeling i never did though. Â from what i've read it seems like the battery chargers are all compatible as long as it's dell.
On my way from replacing a 9 year old Dell Desktop with a laptop and have it down to the XPS16 (though the Studio 15 / 17 may be a contender based on price)..........................................
Here is what I came up with over the phone for a little over $2,000, oh yeah the guy threw in an extra 9-cell battery too........................................
in the past few months i noticed some minor screen snowing that went away with time or repower of the system. while using pc tonight the screen all the sudden crapped out. don't know if i should replace the part or just sell it as is for scrap
the bar also changes color and is there regardless (bio, safe mode, normal ...)
i haven't hook it up to an external monitor because it's kind a hassle this late but will try tomorrow
bios still a04 since the battery died 4 year ago and i'm too cheap to buy one since it's plugged in 24/7
