View 2 RepliesFinally 6 months of search is over,
Just placed an order today, Precision M4500.................
I have a Dell Precision M4500, I recently changed out the HDD as the one in the machine was getting full.
Since doing this I have ran into no end of problems, first of all, upon installing WIn7 onto the new HDD where I had to change some bios settings, no problem really. Then when installing drivers it would ask for a restart and upon the restart it would get caught in a loop. I would reinstall Win7 again and then go through a few drivers and when it needed to be restarted same problem.
Now there is another problem, I cant boot into windows at all, it come back with this error:
Boot Manager:Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:1.Insert your Windows installation disc and restart the computer.2.Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".3.Click "Repair your computer."If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.Status: 0xc000000fInfo: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I have the Dell Win7 64bit repair CD in the disk drive and it is reading that it is there,
When I run the start up repair and the Dell diagnostic tool both report back that there is no error....
I downloaded the A15 update exe but it is telling me I need to install BIOS update A10 first. there is no A10 listed for my service tag. is that available somewhere and if so after installing that will A15 ask for A11 next or will A15 install correctly?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a Precision m4500 and a ePort Plus replicator on windows 7even 64bits.
On my previous one (m6300), the "eject computer" option was available on windows but I don't find it on my current machine.
Does it mean that I have to shutdown the pc to undock it or is it safe to make a hot undock just by manually removing the laptop from the replicator ?
The computer will go into hibernation without any problems.
When I power the computer back up, it starts up I see the starting windows screen. That screen goes blank and then nothing happens.
I just updated the BIOS to A15 and that did not work. I have tried uninstalling the video driver and that did not work. I tried installing an older video driver and no luck there.
The video driver I have for the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M show version 8.17.12.5922
Latitude E6500 and Precision M4400 were basically the same machine, the differences being the M4400's (obviously) different aesthetic on the lid, the more powerful GPU options, and a handful of other tweaks that I don't really remember the specifics of.
From what I can tell, the situation looks to be about the same this time around with the 15.6" Latitude E6510 vs. the 15.6" Precision M4500.
The Precision offers beefier GPU options and a 1600x900 sRGB LED display option, but I want the lower-power WLED 1080p display anyway so that's no loss
I finally convinced my employer to spring for a new Precision M4500. In order to do so,
I had to pare the price down to around $2k, which I did by opting out of the 64GB SSD MiniCard. I figured I could always install it later.
It's later.
What is going on with updating the Bios with Dell laptops? I have a Dell M4500 precision laptop. I'm running Windows 7 pro 64 bit an I7 quad processor and 8 gigs of memory. I can't update the bios past V 07. When I looked through the support posts I found people asking the same question and when I did a search I found over 300.000 hits for the same problem many Dell laptops. What I have NOT found is Dell addressing the problem. Is it the update engine it's self or a problem with the computers? I installed all the patches and all the updates for my computer except the Bios.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a proud user of an M4800, but the constant fan noise bothers me a lot. I ordered it wit win7 but almost directly switched to win 8.1.
What I already discovered: In the event viewer I experienced a lot of MSI error events (every 11 seconds) .
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceOperationEvent WITHIN 10 WHERE (TargetInstance ISA 'Msvm_ExternalEthernetPort') OR (TargetInstance ISA 'Msvm_VmLANEndpoint') OR (TargetInstance ISA 'Msvm_SyntheticEthernetPort') OR (TargetInstance ISA 'Msvm_ComputerSystem') OR (TargetInstance ISA 'Msvm_VLANEndpointSettingData')" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/virtualization" because of error 0x80041010.
Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected. If I stop the Intel(R) PROSet Monitoring Service these events stop, but I wonder if the performance of network devices is not affected negatively:
The Intel(R) PROSet Monitoring Service actively monitors changes to the system and updates affected network devices to keep them running in optimal condition. Stopping this service may negatively affect the performance of the network devices on the system.
Nevertheless after this action CPU usage has dropped, but still too much fan noise while the system does nothing ;o(
I contacted support and they adviced me to reinstall with win7, but that is no option for me for the moment.
My power options are set to 'Quiet (Reduced Fan Levels)'
In the BIOS vA03 I could not find an option to lower settings there. and all latest drivers are downloaded and installed.
I have a new M3800 Precision Workstation that is making a really annoying sound when it is plugged into power and when the SSD is being accessed, mostly when it is being accessed randomly such as search, VM running, or just random file access test from benchmarking software. The pitch of the scratchy sound varies with screen brightness.
I've made a video of it here [View:youtu.be/jbEkRDrPTdA:550:0]

Why ist it, that the CPU fan runs with 3000 rpm, when the CPU is idle and the temperature of the CPU is 37 degrees? Also the chipset temperature is not that high. I made you a screenshot:
I tried everything to get the fan start much later. I used Artic MX-2 thermal compound, liftet my M4400 higher, undervolted it, but nothing works.
In my point of view, DELL made something wrong by programming the BIOS. Is it unnecessarily to run a CPU fan at 3000 rpm when the cpu is cool enough.
Maybe 800-1000 rpm would be fine.
So my question is:
Is it possible to use a kind of speed controller, know from desktop system, to making the fan run much slower?
As far as I see, Dell uses a 4-lines PWM connection the the mainboard.
I just recently purchased a Dell Studio 17. I am very happy with my purchase, however, I have started to notice a high pitched whining noise sometimes when I have it plugged in for charging.
If I disconnect the charger from the laptop, the noise goes away and sometimes it goes away on its own..
When I open it up with a finger or thumb near the center of the screen by the webcam I sometimes hear a small popping sound.
Sort of sounds like something is popping back into place.
It does not happen all the time. If I open from the side there is no soun
just got my Refurb Dell XPS studio 16 3 days ago, and there was a weird sparking noise(nothing visible) coming from the brick.
So, I disconnected the adapter and plugged it back in. That reduced the noise, to where I can only hear it if I stick my ear to the brick.
I called Dell Tech support and they said they will send a replacement. So, 2 questions
1) Is it normal to hear that sound if you put your ear next to the adapter(It's like some sparks are going on inside .....
It's recently been making noises, it happened before and I thought it was not a big deal. Until now, it keeps making noises and then freezes the whole laptop. I had to press power button and waited like 2 or 3 minutes for it to restart. It always happened while i'm playing online games then it freezes... i don't know how to check the fan or temperature of my lap top all i know is when i touch it sometimes its hot...my laptop is dell xps 15 (L502X).

I want to upgrade the hard drive on my son's Precision M4300 laptop. In reading the review, I see that the Seagate ST9500420AS rates the highest, with the Western Digital Scorpios following.
I want to know if anyone has had any experience with the ST9500420AS in this particular laptop.
Seagate admits that there are issues with the ASG model in Dell machines, but claim that there are no issues with the AS model
This laptop isn't even one month old.. this is sincerely frustrating as i have alot of important work saved on here...
-When I plug in the charger.. the battery light turns on for a second then the battery light turns back off.
-When I try to turn on the laptop with the charger plugged in.. nothing happens at all. When I try to turn on the laptop with just the battery without being plugged in.. the power button will light up for a second then go back off.
I've tried: taking out the battery and holding down the power light for 1 minute.. waited 30 seconds tried turning it on with the power chord with no prevail. holding Fn and turning it on and nothing
Some signs I've been seeing: only bad signs i've seen was before it just didn't boot anymore.. maybe twice out of the 6 last time i've booted.. as soon as i typed my password to get into windows it would just shut off. i'd jus reboot and it worked fine. when it stopped turning on.. after messing with plugging it in or not (i didn't know if the battery was dead) i was able to make it past the windows sign on screen.. was going to email myself all my work before it suddenly shut off on me again. the battery had maybe 1/3rd life before it died
I might have interchanged battery chargers with another older dell model laptop.. but i think only a few times at most.. it mostly sits at work on a docking station at work. i have a feeling i never did though. from what i've read it seems like the battery chargers are all compatible as long as it's dell.
This noise sounds like a garbage truck backing up! No screen appears. Noise just continues 'til I turn off computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Inspirion N5050 laptop. A few weeks ago, it started running slow and Adchoices ads appeared. I removed them. I ran a scan using AVG, which detected nothing. I shut down the laptop as a precaution. Now it will not load Windows. I press the power button, the dell logo appears, then I hear what I think is the hard drive click, then the screen goes dark for a second, then the logo and a click and so on and so on. I am able to get to the menus with f2 and f12, what to do next. Safe mode will not respond ( I cannot get into it).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 13 inch sony Z 820db laptop not very long ago, for some reason the fan makes quite a bit of noise compare to other models that i own(sony ns190d laptop). Is this suppose to be normal for this laptop? Does anyone else who has this laptop feels the fan noise for this laptop is sufficiently higher compare to other laptops? I can really feel the air pumping out when i place my hands near the ventilation and i only use the laptop for surfing on the net. no heavy application running what so ever. Also have a question about the battery life. They said the standard battery life could last up to 5.5 hours, but mines only last 3 and half hours even just surfing on net.

The laptop is making this noise as if these dvd/media buttons are pressed constantly. Is there away to disable the sound?
I am seriously considering purchasing this laptop. I have read reviews concerning a constant high pitched "buzzing" noise on this model.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAccording to [URL] ..., Dell M4300 laptop bought several years ago might include Flash Cache Module. Dell BIOS allows to enable FCM. Is there a way to check whether the module is actually installed w/o physically opening up the laptop? What part number or name might it have in System Configuration on Dell Support web-site? It shows that the laptop was shipped with 200GB SATA HDD (part no WT611 - [URL] ...., but there are no components listed with "FCM" or "flash" in their names.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Acer laptop (5720-302G08Mi). The laptop is sometimes making a light clicking noise. This could be the harddisk, but not sure. Is this normal for this model?
Anyone experienced this before on this model?
I just bought an HP touchsmart pavilion N229tx last week and I noticed now that it started creating grinding noises every 3 seconds whenever my laptop is on and running. The noise is coming from near the vent where the air is supposed to come out.
Also when I bought the laptop and opened it the first time I keep having the fan error upon startup saying that it had found that a fan is not operational I think it is error 90B. this now happens everytime I turn on the laptop.
