Dell :: My XPS M1330 Won't Turn On!
When it's plugged in, the power light on the power button lights, as does the power light on the front edge of the laptop. But, after about 4 seconds, both lights cut off.
After they cut off, the battery light on the front edge blinks just once (even when battery is not connected).
Nothing powers up during those 4 seconds. No hard drive sound, no fan on the mboard, etc. Just the lights ....

Dell :: XPS M1710 Won't Turn On
I've had my laptop for about two months now. I bought it from a recondition company - ndc.co.uk. It's been fine up till now. On friday night it was working perfectly, then when I went to turn it on on saturday afternoon it was nothing doing. Two of the lights on the back right (the power one and the one next to it) lit-up for about a second, then they went back off again, and that was it. It's been doing that ever since. The light on the AC power supply is still green, but it won't turn on either on just battery or just supply or both. I didn't download anything the last time I used it, just a bit of footy manager, watched a couple of episodes of simpsons online listened to some stuff on itunes and thats it. Nothing's been spilt on it and I am at a loss to understand why it isn't working.
I doubt its that common a problem - I rang Dell and short of opening it up they didn't really know what to do. I tried taking the battery out and holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds then trying to turn it on again, but it didn't work. If anyone knows anything that can help, please let me know, and save me the journey to the repair shop and the millions of pounds they'll charge me.
Dell :: XPS 1330 Fan Won't Turn Off
As the subject states, my fan will not turn off. Everything was running great, then about a week ago, after installing MS updates, my fan will not turn off no matter what I'm doing.
I'm sure it was an update but am not sure how to go about fixing. I know I can just start uninstalling updates till the fan turns off but if there is a better way that would be great.
Dell :: XPS M1330 Won't Power Up
My 2.5 year old Dell XPS M1330 would not power up. (An overheating gpu/motherboard was replaced 1.5 yrs ago from Hong Kong Dell).
I installed windows update then it is in auto shut down after installing.
I booted it, it was updating some dir files in DOS (the usual), then screen goes black for a moment, I thought it just preparing to go to Windows logo but suddenly it powered off by itself.
Then after that, it won't power up anymore.
It won't power up through battery and AC adapter plugged in. Tried other combinations also.
Dell :: M1530 Won't Even Turn On
I have a year old red M1530. My specs are:
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
(Clean install on empty hard drive, only basic drivers/no crapware)
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (Dual boot)
Core 2 Duo T7700
x2 Corsair 2GB DDR2-667MHz RAM
GeForce 8600M GT 256MB GDDR3
320GB 5400rpm HDD (Samsung -_-)
Recently I dropped my laptop from my bed, making the bottom left hand corner of the palmrest (i.e. the part right above the HDD) bend and open outwards, so I bought a new Product Red palmrest off ebay and replaced it myself - worked a charm, had no problems for two days.
The problem occurred today: I decided I would restart my computer to work on my Windows 7 partition as it was the partition without Steam. It shut off like normal, but it stopped at a black screen - the Dell startup screen never showed up. I had to switch off the computer by holding down the power button.
Now, when I turn it on, everything starts up as normal for a split second, then all the lights on the multimedia interface go out, and nothing shows up on the screen...I can hear the hard drive running like normal, so I doubt it's a hard drive failure.
The techie at my uni residence says that either the LCD display wiring has gone faulty, or the LCD burnt out (or some other bit of hardware), but I find it funny that this should happen AFTER a restart...isn't that a bit of a coincidence? I opened up my laptop to reconnect the cabling, but nothing seems to work...a motherboard failure perhaps?
Sony :: TZ Won't Turn On
I have a Sony TZ which was run over by a car a few weeks back. The only issue at first was the screen was cracked - it turned on and I had been using it with the broken screen for a couple weeks with no issues.
Todya my replacement screen arrived and I replaced it and now it won't turn on at all. What could I have done to cause that? Any ideas? Will it be repairable if I take it to a shop for less than the cost of a replacement (TT I guess)?
Dell :: 700m Screen Won't Turn On
i was dumb and as i was trying to reconnect my speakers i had the battery in (yeah yeah...)
and i touched the thin pcb under the display with my screw driver
needless to say i got a small spark, no burnt smell tho.
now my lcd 'tries to come on' at boot but then nothing is displayed.
Acer :: My Aspire One Won't Turn Off!
I'm having a problem with my Acer Aspire One A150.
The system won't shut down, and just restarts if I try and turn it off.
I have to pull the battery out if I want it to turn off.
When I plug the battery in, it turns on straight away without me having to press the power button.
Also the system won't work off the Mains Power only (with battery removed).
If I plug just the power lead in, the power light flickers and the system keeps clicking until I unplug it again.
The system works with the power lead only if the battery is plugged in as well.
Sony :: WiFi Won't Turn On
i got my laptop last month (VGN-NS110E) and i've recently been having this issue with the wifi switch as I had a MBR error on the partition and had to format everything...green light doesn't go on and i can't get it to turn on with smartWi...Sony tech support sucks bigtime....I am thinking it may be a hardware issue and I just want them to take a look at it but the "tech" told me I need to install the recovery disk first which i hate because all the unneeded extra bs that comes on it....I have misplaced my recovery disks that came with the laptop so I first installed vista ultimate and then sony told me only supports vista home premium. I don't want to order replacement disk knowing that it may not work...what I could try or where I would be able to find the recovery disk i need...?
HP/Compaq :: 6540b Won't Turn On
I have a hp probook 6540b from work.
Yesterday when i went out of work, i closed the lid put it in my backpack and left it there until this morning.
Today when i tried to turn it on nothing seems to happen except the battery light that is blinking when i press the power button.
It blinks fast like 5-7 times changing color between blue and orange, and then just turns off.
I tried removing the battery and turning it on with just the AC adapter - same effect, same blinking.
I tried just with the battery - nothing at all (not even the blinking)
With the battery and the adapter together - blinking.
I have a feeling that yesterday it didn't go to sleep when i closed the lid and what happened is taht it was working closed inside my backpack until it either fried something from the heat, or the battery ended from the fans blowing full on.. But that's just a hunch..
meaning of the blinking battery light ?
Or maybe has a service manual that i can check ?
Acer :: Extensa 5220 Won't Turn On
I have an Acer extensa 5220 laptop, which suddenly decided this morning that it wont turn on any more! It was working perfectly fine, has good anti-virus, etc., and worked fine an hour before but now when it's turned on, the power button goes green and nothing else happens. It's not been dropped or banged, was not plugged into the mains at the time (but can that rule out a surge the last time it was plugged in?)There is not even a flicker on the screen, the fan doesn't come on, but I think the hard-drive hums. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with it?
Acer :: 6530G Won't Turn On With Or Without Battery
I was listening to some music yesterday night, then suddenly my laptop decided to shut down. No problem I thought, becaus it happened 2 times before in which I only had to start the laptop. This time however, the laptop does not want to turn on.
I tried turning it on with the battery, and without the battery(with the adapter plugged in). Nothing helps.
Also I have noticed that the light bulb on the adapter blok blinks if it is plugged into the laptop, but just normally doesnt blink when i pull the adapter out of the laptop(with or without battery).
Sony :: Laptop Won't Turn On No Lights
I have had Sony Vaio VGN-N19VP/B for over a year now and this morning I went to open the lid and turn the laptop on and there were no lights or any response.
I took out the battery and put it back in to see if the connectors were loose but the problem remains.
I checked to see if the AC cable was working, the light was off and then I checked it with my multimeter output was 19.61v
Under the motherboard where powewr cable from AC jack is connected I have 3.98V.
On the battery output from moterboard on the 3 pin is 2.58V
HP/Compaq :: Pavilion DV2000. Won't Turn On
Laptop is a hp pavilion dv2000 laptop.
Went to turn on the laptop and walked away. A minute or two later come back and laptop is not past the BIOS, and a screen talking about a laptop being ran until the battery drained last time it was on. I didn't get a chance to finish reading the screen because the laptop restarted. Nothing shows up on the screen after the restart. I was running off the AC adapter when this happened.
Situation now is pressing the power button causes the power button, media quick play bar. Power notification light , light above mouse pad and the wireless slider to light up. If the AC adapter is plugged in the charge light will light as well.
I also hear a fan and i think the HDD. The HDD light doesn't light though. Nothing will show on the screen. stays black. I have tried powering it with AC adapter only, charged battery only, and with a charged battery and AC adapter.
Apple :: Macbook Pro Won't Turn On
my roommate when he turns on his macbook the screen button doesn't light up. The only thing that lights up is the indicator on the side of the macbook.
We also tried to plug in the macbook into the TV and it said no signal so its most likely not the screen problem. The Keyboard cap lock does light up too.
Dell :: M1530 Won't Turn On But Hard Drive Whirring
I'm having some problems with my M1530 - it won't turn on/start up. I was trying to restart it last night (using the Start button command) and whilst it powered down, when it powered back up the screen does not come on although I can hear the hard drive whirring.
The power button lights up for about 3 seconds and all the volume/music control buttons all light up too, and then the lights go off but the screen remains dark. The hard drive keeps whirring however.
I also noticed that the battery light on the front of the laptop (next to the slot drive) flashes blue then amber then back again.
I have tried starting up after 1) disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it; 2) disconnecting the battery and using just the AC as power; and 3) using the battery only as power, but nothing works.
HP/Compaq :: Presario 1200; Plugged In But Won't Turn On
This is an old notebook. A Compaq Presario 1200 Series notbeook (1200 XL-101). When I plug in the power cable, the LED lights up, indicating it's plugged in - however absolutely nothing happens if I hit the power button.
I have tried this with or without the Battery in it. In the past this notebook was able to turn on WITHOUT any battery in it if it was plugged in; being directly powered by the power cable.
Does anyone have any input one where I can begin to fix this? I don't want to bring it in to a shop; I'd rather fix it myself. I'm handy with hardware so I can open and replace parts. I just don't know what is wrong with it.
HP/Compaq :: Fan Won't Turn On When Laptop Is On Battery Power
I have a HP Compaq 2230S business laptop, but this question could be put to any HP laptop. The fan is constantly running when the laptop is plugged into the power outlet, but as soon as I pull the plug to run on battery power the fan powers down and stops. I re-plug the laptop back in and the fan kicks up again.
This is not good as I almost burned myself when I picked up the laptop after an hour sitting on the table on battery power. The hard drive is right beside the processor, so the laptop gets really hot.
Vista x64 Ultimate is what I'm using at the moment and my power scheme calls for 1% minimum and 100% maximum CPU on battery power.
Dell :: My XPS Won´t Turn On
I have my Inspiron Gen 2 XPS since 2005 and I´m very pleased for all the good years.
But I think is dead now. I don´t know what happen but it was a bit overheat this last years, maybe I didn´t pay enough attention to its cleaning needs as I did the first year I bought it.
So yesterday I turn it off as usual, and now I tried starting it and it won´t even boot the Dell logo.
The fans turn ON and everything, even the screen iluminates, but doesn´t show any images and the Num Lock key is iluminated.
I don´t even get to the boot screen, it just won´t load up anything. My lappy is dying and its in a really critical moment.
HP/Compaq :: HP Pavilion DV6120US - Won't Start... Blank/black Screen When Turn On
I'm more of a desktop user but my husband gave me this laptop on January 2007. Since then, I think I only used it for less than 20 hours (we don't have a wireless)... when we got out of town.
The last time I used it, about a year ago, it turned off by itself. I tried to use it again when I got home but the screen is just blank whenever I turn it on. What could be the problem? I don't think it's a good idea to send it for repair to HP as the warranty expired already.
when I turn it on, all the blue lights turn on... but the screen won't therefore I can't use it. Ealier, I hooked up an external monitor but didn't work. Could it be an LCD problem?
The notebook doesn't have any scratch or whatsoever. It still looks like new, yet not working.
Dell :: M1330: Brand New MB, Now Won't Charge
Dell tech came out to replace my motherboard for the second time in 12 months earlier this week and left the wrong ac adapter (didnt notice until after well after he left).
So dell shipped me another ac brick which arrived today, but the laptop still isnt recognizing it. The battery is completely dead now, but before it went down I checked in BIOS and it was showing no AC adapter there either. It's getting power from the wall (green light is on) but I dont have a multimeter handy to check the voltage from the brick to the computer.
The light doesnt go out when I plug it into the computer like it did when the MB died. What are the chances it's a faulty adapter or do I have another problem? Anybody else had this happen? I'm getting really frustrated with this machine. TIA guys.
Dell :: Won't Replace FAILED M1330 Battery
About a week ago, I had my motherboard replaced due to overheating.
Yesterday, before I had a chance to shut it down properly, I removed the AC power from the laptop and the laptop immediately powered off. I tried again, and the same thing happened.
I called Dell and asked for a warranty replacement and after determining that the battery had indeed failed, the XPS tech support rep told me that the battery is only covered for one year as it's a consumable and they offer a separate battery warranty, so she could not replace it.
So I explained to her that they did not offer that option when I purchased my system (as far as I recall) and I understand the cells wear out and don't hold a charge as they do when they are new, but, regardless, for the battery to completely fail is a defect and should be covered for the length of the system's limited warranty .....
Dell :: Will 'vanilla' Vista 64 / Win2k8 Server Run OK On XPS M1330
I'm considering this upgrade, but I only have vanilla install disks.
Are there issues running a non-Dell OS on an XPS M1330? I seem to recall reading something about this here, but cannot find the related thread(s).
I understand about having to find all the drivers (I have read much of the Vista 64 upgrade thread by Trebuin [thx, T - brilliant work!]), but don't want to go through the pain if a vanilla OS disk won't 'cut it'.
Dell :: Studio XPS 16 Won't Boot ...
I bought this laptop about 9 months ago. The specs are as follow.
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600 (3MB cache/2.40GHz/1066Mhz FSB)
MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz (2 Dimms)
Video Card ATI Mobility RADEON™ HD 4670 – 1GB
Hard Drive 320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate with everything up-to-date. Everything has been running smoothly on this laptop until yesterday when I tried to defrag it and got a BSOD. So today I started it up, and everything was fine, so I decided to try and defrag it again.
To my frustration, I got another BSOD, except when I tried to boot it this time, I get a "Windows Recovery Error" that says "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause". My two choices from there are "Launch Startup Repiar (recommended)" and "Start Windows Normally" none of which work.
If I select the first one, a black screen appears and a cursor which I can control, but nothing else (I let it run for several hours). The other option just gets stuck on the Windows is Starting screen with the flag pulsating its colors.
Dell :: XPS M1710 Won't Load
I have an m1710 laptop. A few days ago when I wanted power it up it would start loading, but nothing would show on the monitor and the LED indicators near the media button would light up.
The first one from the left would stay on and next two would flash together while the last two are off. I tried hoilding down FN key when loading so I can load dell diagnostics but it won't do that. Tried to hookup an external monitor but that didn't help.
Tried powering up with the d key pressed in to run a graphics check but didn't work. Since the comnputer is no longer under waranty I took it apart and took out the Nvidia card and cleared the dust around it.
Right after that the computer loaded fine but today it got stuch while in windows and when I tried loading it I got the same err msgs with the LED indicators. I talked with Dell locally and they told me it's 99% the Nvidia card
Dell :: XPS M170 Won't Boot
I have a dell xps m170 laptop I got back in April of last year, and I forgot to renew my warranty, so it's expired. My problem at the moment is that a few times the past week, I'd be using the computer normally and the screen would go black and everything would stop. I'd try to turn it back on, but wouldn't go to BIOS screen.
I would wait a few minutes, come back, power on again, everything would work fine. Then on Wednesday of last week, it crashed again, but would not go to the Dell screen/BIOS etc, just turn on, fans and lights go on, but just a black screen. I'd wait it out a few minutes, no change.
I took out the Hard Drive, tried to boot up still, powers on, but no Dell screen or anything. I took my computer to Geek Squad thinking they can tell me what my problem is, so I paid them 60.00$ to identify the issue. A day goes by, and they tell me after completing some sort of tests, that it may be a motherboard issue of some sort.
I go to pick it up, and they weren't able to tell me any specifics, they just said, we think it's the motherboard.
Dell :: XPS M1530 BSoD And Now Won't Boot
My XPSm1530 gave me a BSOD error, but it only flashed on the screen quickly, and I couldn't write it down.
Now the system won't boot: it gets to the windows loading bar, and restarts over and over.
I have tried Safe Mode, but it freezes when crcdisk.sys is trying to load.
I also can't boot from the Vista OS CD, as the system just freezes up at 'press any key to boot from CD'
Dell :: My Studio XPS 1640 Won't Start,
My studio XPS 1640 doesn't turn on. I can only see four touch buttons lit and everything else is off.
The only way to turn them off is by removing the battery and the moment I put it back they turn back on.
Using the AC adapter is the same, they remain on until I disconnect them. I attach a picture to show what I mean.
Dell :: XPS M1530 Help (won't Start Properly)
To start off, here is some background information. I've had the xps m1530 since June/July of last year and haven't had too many problems, except the one I am currently having.
The laptop was working fine this morning, but sometime around 2:00pm, it stopped working propely. The internet at my house is retarded and goes on the fritz every so often,
so I restarted the laptop in hopes that it would help (I didn't think it would, but I wanted to try something). Well, when it was coming back on, it suddenly stopped working.
It came to the screen where you type in your password, and when I entered it, it said "Welcome" for like 5 minutes. It just sat there on the login page with "Welcome" as if it were loading, and then after about 5 minutes it went to the desktop.
It sat here for 5 minutes or so and wouldn't allow me to do anything. I couldn't click any icons, or go to the program bar, or do ctrl-alt-delete or anything. It was frozen, but I could still move my mouse around.
Dell :: Studio 1640 XPS Won't Charge Past 90%
I have a new studio XPS 1640, and I've noticed I cant get it to charge past 90% charge...
In the battery settings it says that there is like 3 hrs left to full charge..
Please let me know if there is a fix for this, I've only used the system like 3 times and it is brand new. I have to most updated Bios as well.
Dell :: XPS M1530 Temperatures Just Won't Stop Rising
There is something wrong with the XPS M1530. Almost every owner seems to have overheating problems and those that don't may just not realise it. It seems to happen amongst gamers. Is the overheating because we're gaming 'too much'? Should the XPS M1530 be able to cope? I have so many questions because I'm having my share of overheating problems...something which I recently feel is unavoidable...
After owning my laptop for 8 months, I only just started to monitor the temperatures after I was getting huge drops in fps while gaming after a length of time as well as some artifacting.
On the 15/12/08 which is just over 2 weeks ago I had my motherboard and heatsink/fan replaced because of the following high temperatures I would get when playing games.
After, they were replaced I played some COD4 for 30 mins or so and got the following temperatures. When I saw these temps, I thought "Awesome, my temps are finally normal".
On the 22nd, 1 week after the replacement, I monitored my temperatures as I played TF2 for an hour. As you can see, there was a increase in my max temperatures and at this point, I wondered if maybe the temps will slowly become high again.
Another week later, yesterday on the 30th, I once again monitored my temps and played L4D for 20 mins or so to find that my temps have yet again risen but this time quite a bit more.
Alright so the question is, what the hec is going on with the XPS M1530 and why do the temperatures just keep going up even after getting a new motherboard and heatsink/fan!?!? Seriously, in just two weeks, my temps have risen by as much as 10 degrees celcius! Is this some kind of hardware failure or is this normal? Is it the thermal paste that's melting away or what? What could be going wrong?
Dell :: Studio XPS 16 Won't Boot. Hard Drive Beeps
Was working fine. When I turn the machine on it freezes on the dell splash screen about 60% threw. When the hard drive is out the computer boot fine. (obviously no OS though). The hard drive is also making a beeping noise. Dell said they would send me a new hard drive, but I want to know what caused this as of yesterday when I received it I did a diagnostics and the hard drive was in perfect condition. These things happened today could they have caused it?
1) Laptop did not go to sleep in my backpack and was totally on for about 15min. (Overheat?)
2) Windows froze today and I had to hold down the power button to turn it off.
3) I had used another Dell power supply to power my machine as I did not have the regular cord, but it worked while attached and this problem did not happen till around 30-40min later after it had been unplugged.
Dell :: Yikes: XPS M1530 Remote Won't Go Back In Slot
I've had my XPS 1530 for 16 months now and haven't really had any issues with it. But on Saturday, I removed the remote control and later tried to replace it, but it just wouldn't go back in. Normally, I just push it in and then it 'locks' in the 'in' position. But I can't push it in to the locked position now... Weird.
Dell :: XPS M1330: Modder's Dream
Today I received my XPS M1330. I'm a huge fan of the M1210, but I really want to work with Santa Rosa for my CPU-intensive work which thrives on a fast CPU and high FSB.
So I got hold of an Outlet machine that has the LED screen, nVidia graphics, fingerprint reader, Bluetooth etc, but had 1GB memory and what turned out to be a 1.5GHz dual core CPU! It also has Vista Basic, but a self-upgrade to Home Premium shouldn't be a problem. Though I may go back to XP because aside from the sidebar, there's nothing else in Vista that appeals to me.
Any way, here's the system now:
The 4GB RAM came from eBay, while the 2.6GHz Core 2 Extreme X7800 is an engineering sample sourced from a contact in Taiwan. The CPU was instantly recognised and supported by the BIOS with no problem.
Here's the thing though. This is the easiest CPU upgrade I've ever done - either desktop or notebook. The cover on the bottom of the unit you open to access the memory also gives you easy access to the GPU and CPU. The cooling assembly is dismantled by unscrewing six screws. It is almost as easy to swap out the CPU as it is to say, put in a WiFi module. Gone are the days of dismantling the entire laptop to get to the good stuff.
CPU came out with no problems at all. Getting the plastic cover back on posed more of a challenge!
There's no doubt that the M1330 is a pretty sexy looking laptop but while it is undoubtedly thinner than the M1210 (especially if you have the LED screen) it has to be said that it is almost an inch deeper, so it's not quite as tiny-feeling as its predecessor. But you are getting a bigger screen.
LED screen though is awesome. Whites are much much whiter than I'm used to with my M1210 and the thinness of the lid is great.
Also the fact I can drop in my 5505 cellular modem from the M1210 is a bonus too. Another bonus is that although the power supply has a hexagonal socket, the PSU from my M1210 and the Inspiron 8600 still seems to work just fine with it - which is good as my PSU lives in my office, while my girlfriend's PSU lives in the bedroom. I checked the respective PSUs and they're outputting the same voltage and current.
I've got the smaller battery which says it'll last for 1hr 30 minutes with 56% charge so that'll do for me.
Dell :: XPS M1330 Doesn't Charge Awesome
So recently just sent my 1330 to get the mobo replaced for the first time after owning if for several months, got it back and had already ordered the copper shim for the now famous "copper mod".
So all is going well, slowly I start to notice that while plugged in the laptop slows down - to the point of a 20 minute boot up. Unplug it and run off battery and it instantly speeds up. After speaking to Dell they've concluded I need yet another mother board (having just got this one back a month or so ago.)
Anyone else having a similar issue? A tech is swapping it in the first half of this week...
Dell :: I Can't Create A Primary Partition On My XPS M1330
I have a dvd with Windows 7 Beta on and I am trying to isntall it so it will dual boot with Vista on my XPS M1330.
Now the first thing I have to do to dual boot is to create a primary partition for Windows 7 or to shrink the C drive using vista's disk management.
I have tried many different programs to shrink my harddrive or create a new primary partition so that I can dual boot Windows 7 Beta.
Apple :: Macbook Is Dead - The Screen Doesn't Go Grey The Sleep Light Doesn't Turn On - Fan Doesn't Start
My friend's macbook (white plastic, 2.0, napa/core2 before santa rosa platform) isn't starting, and I have no idea why. He initially asked me to replace the top and bottom casing. I accepted, and ordered the parts. Around the time they were supposed to come, I took the computer apart completely (required for the repair), but one of the parts was delayed, so the computer sat splayed on my desk for a week. I didn't exactly stack textbooks on it, but it also wasn't covered in anti-static wrap. So, now, I finally got the part and put it back together, and the computer doesn't start. At all. The screen doesn't go grey, the 'sleep' light doesn't turn on, the fan doesn't start - nothing. The magsafe light is green, so the power is going in. It's also worth noting that I have no battery for it, so it's all on A/C.
Does anyone know what's wrong? My two hypothetical solutions are (a) I need a battery, or (b) the logic board is dead due to static.
How likely are each of these scenarios - especially the logic board one? How possible is it that it was static overloaded?
Acer :: Aspire 5100 Won't Load And Doesn't Boot From A CD
My Acer laptop died on me sometime last year, I tried to fix it, had somebody who is more techie than me look at it and we couldn't fix it. He managed to get all the data off but couldn't get it to boot up.
My brother recently had a similar problem with his desktop computer so he told me to put an XP disc in and change the BIOS so it booted from the CD ROM.
I have done this and it wont boot. It doesn't seem to recognise there is a disc in there.
When it loads, the Windows XP screen comes on, then a blue screen flashes up, can't read what it says as it doesn't stay on long enough, then the Acer screen comes up then the screen asking if you want to start up in safe mode etc comes up, if I select start as normal or from last know good configuration, it just keeps looping but if I select safe mode, a huge list of drivers comes up then it turns itself off.
I have tried to do the built in recovery but it doesn't work, just stays on please wait for hours.
Acer :: Aspire Timeline 5810tz Won't Boot, Can't Access Setup Or Bios
I just got an acer aspire timeline 5810tz, which came with vista, so i was in the process of reformatting it to have XP, which i've done several times on my previous laptops. When i changed the bios to IDE, which is what i read was the correct setting (perhaps this is where my problem is?), i found that i could no longer boot the computer or access setup, bios or the boot menu. When i attempt to do any of these things, the computer just sits on the logo screen.
i'm getting fairly desperate at this point, having tried a large variety of solutions, key combos, removing the battery, etc.
