Dell :: Need Some Suggestions And Info On The Intel Wi-Fi 4965AGN... (XPS M1530)

Jun 28, 2009

I'm considering upgrading my wireless card from the Dell Wi-Fi 1505 card (I know it sucks) that's in my M1530 currently.

I'm not sure if it's the drivers or the card itself, but sometimes I won't be able to connect to networks that I know I can connect to. Also, it seems to loses packets from time to time .....

Dell :: Latitude D630 Intel 4965AGN Installation

Dec 20, 2009

I just received an Intel 4965AGN card i bought from ebay and proceeded to install it in my Latitude D630.

Card was recognized by windows fine and loaded drivers fine, it just doesn't find any networks.

I believe I installed the antennas correctly (1: white, 2: gray, 3: black).

Also the wifi switch on the side doesn't work and the LED is always off even though the Intel diagnostics say that the card's Radio is ON.

Is my card bad or is it just not compatible (BTW: It is toshiba branded.

Dell :: M1530 & Suggestions For Replacement

Nov 3, 2009

I had a bad experience with DELL.At the end of last year I bought a XPS M1530. At first it was ok, then it started to have a strange behavior:

sometimes it didn't want to switch on, in these cases I had to wait for the battery to empty completely and when it could switch on again, one could notice that the clock had stopped working in the meanwhile.

At a certain point I directly got the dreaded "time-of-day-clock-stopped" screen, with consequent block of the computer.

I thought I had found the solution when I changed the clock battery and computer started work again.

However, after some time the same problems appeared and at the end the same message of "time-of-day".....

Sony :: Vaio Z & Intel X 9100 & Virtualization Info

Mar 15, 2009

It's me and my crazy mods again After fitting second SSD to my Vaio Z (instead of optical drive), i got hold of Intel's X9100 ES from E-Bay...

Stepping is QBDW - for those interested.

So, after a hour or so of fitting everything in (mostly spent on opening the Z) it was ready for testing.

First results? Not very nice - X9100 ES I got has lowest VID of 1.0V (, I should have asked the seller for this before) Also, 3.0 GHz VID is outrageously high (1.225V) - so, during the first tests it was shown that almost immediately the CPU resorts to throttling (temp. gets to 105C) - completely useless .....

Dell :: Suggestions For New XPS 1647?

Feb 19, 2010

I ended up choosing the Studio XPS 1647

It should be shipped in a week or two, and I was wondering what recommendations you all had for it. I plan on reformatting it to get rid of all the bloatware and also undervolting it.

I'll use it as a desktop replacement and occasionally play some games on it (probably nothing too demanding though). So any suggestions on what to do to start off right and keep it healthy?

Dell :: M1330 GPU Fail, Any Suggestions?

Feb 5, 2010

Well the GPU on my M1330 finally gave way tonight. (At least that is what believe is causing the colored lines anyway.) My warrenty expired last summer, but as I recall Dell extend the warrenty on the GPU 12 months past the orginal warrenty. I plan on giving tech support a ring tomorrow (or Monday, I'm not sure how much luck I'd have over the weekend). Any tips from those who have been through this? What should I expect? Motherboard replacement? Refurb replacement? Any input would be welcome.

I currently use the Intel 4965A AGN so i have the 3 antennas connected to it, But i can't find any confirmation that the 5300 will work with the M1530. I see that it says it's for the Centrino 2 but i don't know if it's for a certain motherboard or chipset.

Sony :: SZ71WN/C Replacing Internal Wireless 4965AGN

Oct 27, 2009

I think I need to replace my 4965AGN on my SZ71WN/C as my laptop will loose connectivity with my router for no reason. I get the dreaded unidentified error and the only way to resolve the issue is to reboot my laptop. This was happening even before I upgraded to Win7. Even on a vanialla Win7 install, with no antivirus, it happens. You could ask if it's my router (Netgear DG834GT), but another Vaio SZ that I have works fine....

So has anyone changed their WIFI module and if so, should I upgrade to one which is WIN7 compatiable out of the box?

Dell :: BIOS & Some Hardware Info

Apr 29, 2010

Just a quick question please. Been wanting to buy a laptop probably with an i5 520 processor.

Seen very good deals on Lenovo, unfortunately came to find out their BIOS is locked, and so with Sony too. Is Dell BIOS locked also, main reason is because I use virtualbox and other related software, and I need VT enabled, will this be an issue with Dell too, as with Lenovo it is (at least as per the threads on the Lenovo side, and no fix yet).

One other thing, talking about Lenovo again or even Acer, I've seen them offer a i5 520 on 14/15" laptops, then why is that I don't have an option to get an i5 520 on a Studio 15.

One last no-brainer question, sorry.. 15.6" screens have a resolution of 1366x768 (16:9) and newer 14" laptops I've seen also have the same resolution, is that also 16:9 and 720p ?

Dell :: Latitude E4200 Info

Oct 4, 2008

I have been see-sawing between the Sony Z and the E4200 (two very different machines) but being a Dell customer for the past decade, and having access to Premier and EPP, tipped the decision in favor of the the smallest E in the new Dell portfolio.

I thought I would start this thread as a 'catch all' place for all the folks who are ordering the new E4200. I have been looking for info on the E4200 in particular but there isn't much to be found though a few folks have indeed received their E4300s.

There seems to be some disappointment with the E4300. I am holding out until the backlit keyboard as well Latitude ON (hardware-based) are widely available. It does seem that some of the kinks still need to be ironed out from the lilliputian E-class Dells. Here's an early review that pretty much sums up the disappointment that some new owners are feeling:

Dell :: S-XPS 1645 Throttling Info. And Updates

Dec 27, 2009

Dell has released their solution to the throttling issue, if you have updated to the latest A07 or newer bios, and recieved a 130w adapter from dell. Need to call the reps and get a 130w sent free of charge.

After more testing looks as if the A07 bios has indeed greatly improve the performance of the laptop. More testing will continue to see where the limit is at, as there may be close to the throttling edge perhaps.

Purpose of this thread is to educate those about the throttling issues with dell's laptops. Specifically to the xps 16 with i7 processors. Also to show community driven solutions as we wait for dells response to this issue.

This is an advancement from the power investigation thread, to summarize the thread here is a quick list. The 1645 is supplied and designed for a 90w adapter which is undersized and cripples the laptop under gpu + cpu stresses,

such as gaming and photo editing.Running on battery seems to let the laptop run more towards it potential.The problem severity varies and depends mostly on configuration and type of program being ran.A 130w or bigger power supply will not solve the issue alone, as the bios actively throttles to main 90w anyways.Through reps Dell seems aware of the issue. As of yet there has been no official announcement and is .....

I recently changed my M1210's thermal assembly, new motherboard (due to failed Go7400), and the new one I obtained to replace it was a new revision, A02... the old one I removed is A00, so it seems there have been two design changes to the heatsink since my computer was assembled.
