Dell :: Prediction: More Studio XPS Screen Replacements & Complaints
May 30, 2009
I'm talking about the clear plastic filter in front of the actually LCD panel.
I notice that more and more dust particules managed to get in between the plastic filter and the panel.
Right now, it's not a big problem. But you can easily imagine it will become one when, a year or two from now, sizeable amount of dust particules get stuck all over the screen
Im thinking of buying a refurb 1555 on ebay and just wanted to see if there any major bugs/quirks/design faults with the 1555? I'm particularly interested in how noisy it is at idle and at full load. Is it above average for noise and heat?
Spec is Core 2 duo P8600 or T6600, 4gb ram, ATI 4570, 320gb HD (5400 or 7200), 1366x768 LCD
I have a blue dell xps 1330 and I am talking about the top of the laptop when you close the lid, the colored part. It has a large scratch in it and I was wondering if I could get the whole part somewhere online or something. Is this possible? thanks I would like to change it to red too
I have to choose a new computer and I'm not sure what to pick. They're replacing my old e1405 aka 640M (see stats in sig).
I have a small selection of open box units to choose from and don't want a bigger laptop than the one I have... that leaves me with just xps1330s to choose from.
I need to choose quick and was hoping I could get some community help since I don't have time to research.
1) Can I change the exterior colour of the xps (for business reasons)?
2) How much does the dedicated graphics card effect the battery life vs no graphics card on the 6 and 9 cell? Is it worth the loss in battery life to get this? Can I add or remove this later?
3) Are there any known problems with the computer? Common complaints?
I apologize in advance if there is already a thread dedicated to this issue as I made sure to search around to see whether someone had already started one on this issue.
My question goes out to other Dell 1500 Vostro owners who ended up with a defective card and underwent the painstaking process of replacing their 8600M GT cards:
Have the replacement cards been defective as the stock ones? Are the replacement 8600M GT cards better built to withstand heating? Has Nvidia fixed the silicone issues?
Like the photography world usualy new camera are biannualy or annualy. How often does HP release new laptops? I'm waiting for a replacement for the dv5t.
Long ago (A year ago lol) I bought the Gateway FX gaming notebook. It was a great PC and could not beat the price with the hardware and performance it offered, however the screen was really bad.
At first glance it wasn’t, 1080p res and good brightness level, but when I plugged in my old external LCD monitor to dual screen, I was floored. My 4 year old desktop LCD screen was almost better in every single way.
The Gateway’s colors were dull, muddy, and dark, no matter how much I recalibrated the screen, I could not get it to look anywhere as good when compared to my Samsung screen on my desk.
I'm looking at the new Studio XPS 16 (1645, I think... or maybe 1647?) for college. The main draw to the computer was the optional 16.0" RGBLED screen, which had phenomenal reviews. I've been playing with the configurator on the Dell site for the past few days, and while the description of the laptop says that the 16.0" RGBLED screen is available, you can't actually add it to the laptop in the configurator. I talked to a service rep today about it and he said that it was discontinued within the past month. Is this true?? Why would they discontinue a screen that had such high reviews? I don't know if I trust the salesman because he didn't answer any of my questions regarding differences in the screens and wasn't very helpful overall. I really wanted that screen for photo editing (since it could display an extremely high % of the color gamut) but now I'm not sure what to do... I don't know anything about the WLED screen that's offered (the 1080p version) or the B+RG LED screen offered on the Studio 17 (which was the other laptop that I was looking at). Does anyone know how those two monitors compare to the 16.0" RGBLED screen that used to be available on the XPS 16? What are the differences?
Im debating whether I should get the 1400x900 WLED or the High Definitition 1920 x 1200. Which one is better ? I understand the WLED is brighter ( i think) its sa 25$ difference between the 2.
I'm trying to figure out how good the 1600x900 screen is. I can't find a review on any but the 1080p RGBLED. I really don't want such a high resolution on a screen of this size though-- heck, my current 1680x1050 15.4 is too high res IMO.
So does anyone own a 1600x900? How does it compare to other WLED screens like Apples'?
I have a Dell Studio 14Z with shatered monitor. The laptop still turns on but I can't see anything on the screen.
I was planning to buy a docking station so I can use an external monitor. Studio 14Z does not have the slot type port that is usually found on larger laptops, so the docking station will probably be USB (is there one with SATA?).
My biggest question is ... can I plug in my laptop to the docking station and turn power on from the docking station and it will automatically appear on external monitor? or do I need change some settings on my laptop which I can't since I can't see anything
I am stuck debating between the 15.4 WLED (1440*900) and the 15.4 non-LED (1920*1200). I am just not sure which I would prefer. If the WLED came in a 1920*1200 option I don't think I would be so concerned.
I really like the size, weight, and potential power savings of the WLED screens but I am used to working on larger monitors (22 and 25 inch) running at higher resolutions.
What does everyone think about these two choices? Will I be happy with the WLED at the smaller resolution or is it better to opt for the traditional screen with the higher resolution?
Just so everyone knows the laptop won't be my primary computer but will get a lot of use while working on graduate work away from home, writing website code, and general use. The only gaming activity it might see is some occasional WoW.
I just purchased a Dell Studio XPS 13 a few days ago, and I opened my laptop the other day at a coffee shop and noticed that there was a black area in the top left hand corner of my screen. I proceeded to wipe it away, thinking it was just some residue, but when it wouldn't wipe away I began to worry.
Later that evening when I had gotten home I checked the laptop while it was turned off, and noticed that it is scratched behind the plastic! I almost had a heart attack! I called Dell and they told me it was a cosmetic fault and was "accidental damage" and told me that I must pay to fix it.
I just shelled out $1500 dollars for this, I'm a student on a tight budget and I've never seen anything like this! How does a laptop's screen scratch from in behind???
Please, does anyone have any suggestions? I need to get this fixed as I don't want it to get worse, and there is no physical damage to the laptop which is really puzzling. If I dropped the laptop it would be broken! But when something like this happens, what should I do? .....
It seems Dell does not have any RGBLED screens available for the XPS 16. What are the biggest advantage of the RGBLED instead of the other options Dell offers? Should I wait for the RGBLED? I'm not going to do any high-end photo or video editing, and I've heard that's one good reason to have that screen.
I cracked my dell studio 15 (1535) LCD screen , I have been looking for a replacement screen but I can’t seem to find one. Can they be purchased from dell?
I had a WLED 1440X900 screen and would like a LED back lit screen to replace it. I have checked several places including few sellers on ebay but they don’t seem to have one.
I always thought the Dell 1737 had a LED backlit screen? Looking at the website it has no mention of it though, yet im sure iv seen people talking about it in the past?
I have been looking to buy a laptop for a while, and would prefer to go with an i7 model, hence I am looking at the studio 15 as Dell is the only company to have i7 laptops available in Australia. For some reason the options for inbuilt 3g and a 1600x900 screen are available on the model with the old processor but not with the i7.
The normal resolution screen will likely be too low so I am not going with that. Is 1080p on a 15" screen able to be used for word processing and general office tasks? This laptop will be an all in one - office use, multimedia and a music production laptop.
Should I go out of my way to find a 1080p 15" laptop to trial.
I purchased a dell studio 17 off ebay and that is fully working and has a new battery.
The man selling it sells alot of laptops that he has fixed or replaced stuff on. He told me it was not refurbished at all but looking at his feedback i think he has replaced the screen and casing on the laptop.
Ive only had it a few days and noticed that the screen has started flickering in terms of going light and dull on and off very quickly. It only seems to happen though when im running on battery as its fine when its plugged in.
Is this laptop faulty or is it a minor problem?? as i won the bidding very cheap so i want to keep hold of it if there is nothing major wrong with it.
