i am trying to remove some start - up programs in windows defender. some of them, will not let me hit any of the options: "
Remove" "disable" and "able". it let me do it for some of the programs, but not all of them
after years of PCs clunking out on me I'm so worried about my Mac slowing down. Are there any programs I can get for free that will look through my hard drive and delete bits of programs that aren't deleted when I drag the program into the trash?
Are there any program that will in general look through my computer for things that I should get rid of, besides Onyx?

I own a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Series i7537T-5005sLV.A short while ago I tried to power on my laptop but it didn't come on. I thought that the battery drained and I didn't notice however when I plugged in the power cord no lights came on. I decided to open up the laptop and remove the battery and put back the battery and try to power on the laptop. It came on after doing that and I saw lights again.
I also notice that after reseating the battery, the latency between pressing the power button and the laptop actually coming on is shorter. It is almost instantaneous.Before there was about a 1.5 seconds delay. (THIS COULD BE MY IMAGINATION THOUGH)
I also noticed that I got little "pinches" or small shocks when my skin comes in contact with the edge of the laptop, especially at the end of the palm rest area. The shocking sensation could be cause the hair on my hands as my skin brush along the edges of the laptop as I type. I say this because I've never experienced a shock touching anywhere else on the laptop and I never felt a shock while using the tips of my fingers to touch the edges.Â
One last thing I feel I should mention. Around the SD card slot area there is a small dent protruding outwards; barely noticeable. It was a brand new laptop and the seal on the box wasn't broken or tampered with so I am assuming that this was a manufacture's defect. One I was willing to overlook since the dent wasn't that bad and added some character to the laptop. However I am beginning to worry that the unit might be damaged and that is why I had the power issue.The laptop is about two weeks old. I had to replace the first one because the display had horizontal waves running from top to bottom. Even in the BIOS. They were especially visible against gray backgrounds.
Re HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC, Windows 8, 64-bit.  I want to be able to safely remove a USB thumb-drive without shutting down the computer. There is no icon for "Safely Remove Hardware" as on other computers I have. I have not been able to find the program or its icon using "search" or "find". It is not indexed in the user guide.Â

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Studio 1555 won't start anymore. When I want to turn it on, I get a beeping signal (2 beeps) and nothing happens. I tried all possible troubleshooting tips from the dell website (disconnecting all power and hold power button, reconnect to power, checked battery with the button on the battery, all fine, can't get into bios because computer doesn't start at all) but nothing works. Recently I also checked if the motherboard is connected properly and there is no issue either.
I also purchased a new dell adapter because my old one was a little bit damaged. The adapter is like the old one, and it's originally dell and the correct one for the studio 1555 so it can't be the adapter. Laptop also doesn't start when the battery is not in and it's only connected to the power.
I was wondering, is there absolutely any way to transfer your programs and files to Windows 7 when you do a clean install? (So I can dual-boot).
Or could you at least do the update option when you install windows 7, reinstall vista, and then do a system restore with vista?..

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a new XPS 15 9530with a Quad HD (3200x1800) screen running Windows 8.1.The Quad HD screen obviously requires some new smarts to display application windows properly because not all applications handle it well. "Beyond Compare" is a severe case in point - it seems that icons in it's windows are displayed very small and text box lines are truncated vertically, so much so that the bottom half (or more) of the text in these lines cannot be read. I'm guessing this is a Dell driver issue because of the newness of these screens. I'm a software developer and use Beyond Compare all the time. In some cases I can't even change the settings because the setting screen in unreadable with this issue.
There are other applications that exhibit the same or similar problem. Visual Studio 2010 has some issues, but the main problem I have with it is that some drop-down boxes are displayed extremely small. At least they're readable if you get close to the screen!the MS Office products I use all the time (Word & Excel) don't show any problems, but I wonder why these are good and "lesser known" apps have problems inadequate testing?
I develop in a dual-screen mode with a Dell U2412M monitor and the "bad" windows on the laptop screen do not change their perspective when I move them across - although during the drag they show as very large windows on the second screen until the whole window is in the second screen and then it shrinks to an "expected" size. It is this behaviour in particular that leads to think it is a driver "bug" that might be causing the window display problem.

I don't know why, but anything I have open- chrome, games, word, windows, periodicly acts as if it is minimized, except I can still see it. If I am on word, I might be typing. Then it happens, and no matter what I do nothing happens unless I click the window again. That means something else, not an application, is opening and closing in the background. The border color changes when this happens. It happens about every minute to five minutes. I think it might be McAfee, but I'm not sure- I can't uninstall it anyways, wont work enough to uninstall or let me delete the files. I did the whole dell scan thing from their website, everything twas fine it said. Sometimes, my computer also fades black and back on, again and again and again- unless I restart it.
I have a Dell Inspiron N7110. Recently after updating my McAfee antivirus software my computer has been slow. The computer works fine when we first turn it on but after a few times of closing the laptop and reopening it to use it, the programs won't open. I try opening Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and my documents. Also the computer won't even turn off. It just stays at the blue logging off screen.

Graphics, CD and DVD, Office etc. as thats how is have always worked. is that the way to go to organise myself.

I've tried to do a system restore multiple times, but the screen just stops on a blue screen. No it isn't the Blue Screen of Death, but it does attempt to start but fails and stands on the screen until it automatically or manually shuts down.Â

At startup (msconfig) i see a few HP programs that im not sure if i need or not to be starting up. This is what i see: HP MediaSmart, HP Quick Launch Buttons, HP health Check Scheduler, HP Wireless Assistant, GrooveMonitor Utility, Java Platform.
I recently bought the dv6-1260se, 'Artists Edition' and am so far loving it, except for the whole Windows Vista Issue.
I've had it a whole 3 days and it's already throwing errors. I installed Aion and World of Warcraft, and for one day, WoW could alt-tab fine. Now it gives a green alt-tab box and only shows the start/task bar. I hafta complete restart the entire thing to fix it, it won't even tab back to the game. Also, when I tried to use a bluetooth mouse, it started throwing HID errors. I update the quicklauch buttons like the HP help suggested, but still no luck. I got the bluetooth mouse to work, but discovered it was pretty bleh and it lagged when in games. Windows Vista is up-to-date save for Service Pack 2. The ATI video drivers are also updated from ATI.
I have Windows 7 RC on all the other computers in the house, and had it on my prior Compaq 3 year old beast before the board fried itself for the last time. I've already pre-ordered my Windows 7 for this laptop through HP, but I'm not sure if I can wait till oct. 22.
However, the Artists Edition comes with alot of decent preloaded software. Corel's paintshop pro, painter and something else. Also there's Stardock's MyColors, LoginStudio and I think Object Desktop. Some of these programs have a beta for Win 7, others don't.
However, I don't have registration keys or anything for these programs. I don't think I'll have problems with Corel's stuff (if Win 7 translates the reg keys correctly), but Stardock's stuff will hafta be eventally updated and they need keys for updates.
I've tried Steermouse, great app when it works. It keeps "disabling" itself every so often. I'm guessing it's a bug that has to do with switching apps. It works when I fire it up again. But is there another program that can allow me to specially keybind certain things to my mouse *AND* disable mouse acceleration? (oh I love you steermouse for removing mouse accel!)

i got a macbook. Everything is fine with it, except when i try to use photobooth, ichat or any program that uses my camera. What happens is it will bounce as if it were to load, then there is just a question mark in front of the program. I have tried opening them up through spotlight, but still nothing is working. I have tried searching the forums and looked in my Everything Mac user guide.
