after switching the boot settings from uefi to legacy, I can't enter my bios anymore.
Neither with F2 nor F12.
He shows me that "Operating System can't be found".
Did the switching for testing another OS.
Is there any trick to enter the bios to switch again to uefi mode?
who has an E6530 with BIOS rev A07 test to see if the 'Custom' charging mode functions properly via the Battery Information application that is installed with the Dell Feature Enhancement Pack ? The Battery Information application worked properly prior to the A07 update. To test:
1) Reboot
2) At the DELL logo press F12
3) Select 'BIOS Setup' from the pre-boot menu
4) Select Power Management, then select the 'Primery Battery Charge Configuration'
5) Select the 'Custom' option (Write down which option is selected before you make the selection so you can restore this setting later)
6) Set the 'Custom Charge Start' value (e.g. 50, NOTE the BIOS will not allow a value less than 50)
7) Set the 'Custom Charge Stop' value (e.g. 75, NOTE: the BIOS requires this value be 5 greater than the 'Start' value)
8) Click 'Apply', then click 'Exit' and let the system boot into Windows
9) Launch the Battery Information application by performing the following steps:
9.1) Press the 'Windows' key
9.2) In the 'Search Program Files' search box type: 'Dell Battery Information'
9.3) Click on the 'Dell Battery Information' link in the search results
10) When the Battery Information applications starts, verify that the Charge mode displays 'Custom' (see figure )
11) Click on the 'Change Setting' button
12) Verify that the 'Custom' mode is not listed (see figure)
13) Verify that the 'Start' and 'Stop' values which are set in BIOS are NOT correctly displayed, and that you are unable to change the 'Start' and 'Stop' values.
14) Restore your charge configuration by selecting the Charge mode you wrote down in step 5
15) Click save

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire E5-511 that stopped booting last saturday, from what I've found I have the black screen of death (or a dead motherboard, but I'm trying to keep it positive). I think I have the proper bios .fd files, but I'm not too sure, and I can't be sure about what to name said file. I can't be sure I'm going into the Crisis mode, but I do know that If I'm holding down fn+esc when I hit the power button then the processor fan runs alot faster.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an HP ENVY dv7-7304tx now succesfully running a Samsung 840 Evo SSD as the primary disk. The second disk is the original spinning disk.
Samsung Magician software tells me I need to enable AHCI mode (which is not possible in the BIOS) to optimise the SSD.
Does this have the same or similar solution to that provided in the link here? : [URL]....
Would there be any negative consequences for the spinning disk?
I have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now. This computer has done this since day one for some reason:
When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?
DLL XPS M1530
Windows Vista
the laptop enters sleep mode (stand by), after close lid, and now it won't wake up!
I have tried clicking keys, restarting, shutdown, without battery only electr., etc. And nothing. Not runs. Displays black screen
I can not enter to BIOS, I can not use CD-ROM....Is sleeping
I have the M1530 and the option to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro was presented to me and I took it. Sadly,
I started having some problems with a game so dear to me.. So instead of going back to Vista I tried to figure out Windows XP Mode.
I have a dell studio 15 that has been upgraded to windows 8 from 7.
I had disable all possible sleep mode in the power setting and advance power setting but the notebook still goes into sleep mode after a certain period of time.
My XPS (bios A05) always wakes up after sleep mode with the fan running full speed and never stops after that. This occurs even if the PC goes to sleep with fan off (ie low system load, low temperature). The only way to turn the fan off is a full reboot.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have m1730 with dual 8800 gtx. Had it over a year now and have had no problems with it. Now all a sudden when I enable SLI it gives me a blue screen. The problem is with nvlddmkm.sys. I'v tried different drivers and nothing has fixed this. I googled and looked for similar problems but nobody seems to have any fixes. Also most problems I found on google are when running games. My machine won't even boot up in SLI mode with the original driver. With the newer drivers after i accept changes seems like windows is attempting to load the second card then i get the blue screen.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell XPS M1530. Since I am a college student, and when I usually leave class, I just close my laptop.
let it go to sleep, and put it in my bag. The problem lately has been that when I close my laptop, it does not go into sleep mode, even though it is set for it to do this.
It will do this on both battery and AC power. I will put it into sleep overnight so it is in sleep when I put it in my bag in the morning.
And once last week I put it in there thinking it was a sleep and then 3 hours later while I was at work,
I had not brought it out yet, and opened my bag and the laptop never turned off, it had been running the whole time and was hot, and had 22 minutes of battery left.........
Situation : I finish surfing web and I wanna give it a little break. I close the lid.
I have set it to goto sleep when lid closed (if any1 suggested this). I come back open up but the laptop didnt go to sleep, HDD activity is minimal but I can hear it spinning.
Also the screen is still bright but black, I can still change the brightness though with the Fn+upArrow or Fn+downArrow. In order to return to functional state I have to HARDreset.
Does anyone know why on my XT tablet my sleep mode is greyed out?
I tried everything... reinstalled nearly all the drivers... and some power management settings, yet the damn thing is still greyed out. I can't figure it out for the life of me.
iv'e owned a M1710 for over 3 years and never had any issue at all with it. Sell it to a friend about 2 weeks ago with a fresh install of Win7 64bit installed.
Last night he calls me telling me it blue screened coming out of Stanby mode and when he reboots there are all kinds of graphic glitches/errors all over the screen during system post and It will only boot into safe mode.
I checked it out today and the graphic card is indeed fried, failed the Video Memory test of dell's diag CD.
Could Stanby mode keep an amount of current going through the video card without fans running and burn the memory? or is this just a big coincidence?
In my 3 years of owning the laptop I never used Standby or Hibernate, it always booted up pretty quick I never saw the point...
just installed win 7 on an old trusty x300 (1.4Ghz PM, 640MB of RAM).
It runs great! actually, very impressed. anyway, about the only frustrating thing is that S3 or System standby is not available.
its grayed out on the start menu....I have power button behavior manually mapped to standby, but it hibernates instead
Precision M6400 : Is it possible to put the GPU (2700M) into a low power mode ?
Often, when I'm on battery, I do low GPu work, like text editing and compilation, or giving presentations. Also I use XP 64 bit; all low GPU work.
Can I downclock the GPU or undervolt it or do something to conserve energy ?
I have the 1330 with XP on it. I installed the new BIOS A14 and now I encountered a new problem: when I hibernate the 1330, everything is good. But, When I choose the Sleep mode, the 1330 goes to sleep, but never wakes up. When I press on the power button, nothing happens. Therefore, I need to hold the power button, than the computer shut himself down and I turn it on.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Dell XPS 12 has twice refused to turn on after going into Sleep mode. There is no indication of activity at all. This happens when I know that the battery is nearly fully charged, and continues even after plugging in the adapter. The adapter works just fine to charge the battery and the battery typically runs for at least 6 hours so I do not believe that or the battery are the problem.
The first time this happened, I continued to open/close the lid and try turning on the computer. After several hours, the computer turned on and worked just fine. I had already scheduled service with Dell before I got it to turn on and Dell's technician replaced the motherboard under the assumption that that was the problem.
The second time I again continued to open/close the lid and try the power switch after contacting Dell and scheduling service. The next day, after several tries, the computer started up and again is working normally. I am not allowing the computer to Sleep and am using Shut Down instead. Dell has ordered a replacement motherboard (yes, again), battery, and DC IN. I don't think that this is a power issue so doubt that any of those will fix the problem.
Does the XPS 12 have a "lid sensor"? Something that could fail to recognize that the lid is open and could be turned on?
The above series of processors apparently have an "Overdrive" mode at that will allow the cores to jump to 2.4ghz from their normal working clock speed of 1.8ghz. However, there seems to be no way to use it or access it. The clock speed will not move above 1.8ghz no matter how much demand I put on the system. There are no obvious (or unobvious) BIOS settings that even reference AMD Overdrive. I'd like to be able to utilize the extra power, but I can't seem to find it. I'm running Linux on this machine, though I assumed that Overdrive would have been handled at the BIOS level.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 15 320gb hard drive that I purchased in August 2013. It has been a great computer until last night.
I shut it down and later rebooted it.
It seemed normal until the wallpaper ( a photo of mine ) appeared as normal. The date and time was showing along with signal strength and battery strength.
None of my short cuts appeared and none of the keys on the key board work - at all.
I tried rebooting and hitting F8 to go to safe mode - nothing.
I tried a memory stick and a SD card but computer will not recognize anything. I would go back to all factory defaults and lose my files if I could get access.
I just got my xps 13 on march 9, 2013. Today I received a battery warning.Frequently connecting and disconnecting your computer to a power source without allowing it to fully discharge may reduce the longevity of your batter. Dell's Longevity mode will protect your battery by moderating the extent to which your battery will charge protecting your battery from frequent charge and discharge states.
I enabled the Longevity Mode as well as the desktop mode. Is there any conflict with either. Should I ever click the option "Charge battery to 100% one time" under the Longevity Mode Tab.These options are new to me, and I would like to take the best care to keep my battery long lasting.I also have Dell Intelligent Display in Battery Mode and Dell Extended Battery Life enabled under the Battery Status Tab
My XPS 18 periodically has had trouble coming out of sleep mode. A hard restart has usually worked to restart it. However, the last time it didn't work and now won't start. While plugged in, a hard restart only turns the fan on after a few seconds and the battery indicator light blinks fast 7 times, then pauses, then repeats continuously. Once the battery runs down, a hard restart only gets a single orange blink and then nothing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy new XPS 14 is experiencing problems after going into sleep/hibernation mode. Each time the computer goes to sleep, I get a message from Intel Rapid Storage Technology that acceleration has been disabled. Basically, when this happens, the SSD drive becomes inaccessible and no longer recognized by the computer (disappears from device manager). In order to get it back, I restart the computer, which brings the ssd drive back up in device manager, and then I have to disassociate the drive and re-enable acceleration after that.Dell has put in a service order to have my SSD drive replaced.

My 9300 has an issue that I'm hoping someone can help with.
When I boot as normal into XP there are broken lines on screen like electrical interference and then when XP tries to start the screen goes black.
When I boot into safe mode the screen is fine but obviously not at 1900x1200 resolution.
I've noticed my graphics card fan is not spinning so I'm assuming the card wont run at 1900x1200 when it senses the fan has died ?
I've got a 2007 model Dell Vostro 1500 with a 8600m gt graphics card. The display is only 1280x800.
Now what I want to do is use another montitor with the laptop. I was thinking of getting a 17inch widescreen LCD.
Now what I'm wondering is will the laptop be able to power the LCD widescreen at 1440 x 900 as well as the laptop display at 1280x800
Is anyone else out there running Windows 7 RC that just came out?(please don't whine about the fact this isn't production software, I work in IT and i purposefully installed this to start tinkering).
Whenever I close the lid on my m1330 and it goes in to sleep mode when I open it later I find it is turned off.
When i turn it on it boots up and says windows shut down unexpectedly and give me the safe mode prompts, etc
