I just got my xps 13 on march 9, 2013. Â Today I received a battery warning.Frequently connecting and disconnecting your computer to a power source without allowing it to fully discharge may reduce the longevity of your batter. Dell's Longevity mode will protect your battery by moderating the extent to which your battery will charge protecting your battery from frequent charge and discharge states.
I enabled the Longevity Mode as well as the desktop mode. Is there any conflict with either. Should I ever click the option "Charge battery to 100% one time" under the Longevity Mode Tab.These options are new to me, and I would like to take the best care to keep my battery long lasting.I also have Dell Intelligent Display in Battery Mode and Dell Extended Battery Life enabled under the Battery Status Tab
My new XPS laptop is just a few days old and I'd like not to kill it prematurely. What is current consensus on best practice to extend useful life? Shut it down after session completed (i.e., in AM when leaving for work) or leave in standby "sleep" mode? I leave my employers Dell Latitude computer powered up in a docking station during the week but power it down for the weekend. With current electronic semiconductor technology, is there a negative aspect on longevity (inrush current, for example) by daily shutting down and powering up?
I have an Inspiron Windows-8 (pro) laptop, that I purchased on 3/23/13. One strange issue I've noticed, is when I'm in a Windows-8 app (i.e. Mail), I'll start to move the cursor (via the touch-pad) to perform an action (like delete), and then all of a sudden, I'm "switched" into Desktop mode. Sometimes the OS flips back and forth between the app and whatever I was on previously (usually the Desktop). Is this a
1) keyboard issue, 2) a touch-pad issue, 3) a Dell issue (defect, or driver issue), or 4) a Windows-8 issue, or 5) something I'm not aware of?Â
It doesn't happen all the time, but is frustrating when it does. I usually have to close the app, go back to the Windows "metro" screen, and re-launch the app.Â
This is regarding my Dell inspiron 3520 . core i3 + 4gb ram with windows 7 home basic 64 bit . I noticed the feature Called "DESKTOP charging mode" Â under extended battery life options. unfortunately i am unable to select the desktop charging mode. It seems disabled. i have enabled Extended battery life and it is working well. I am getting more than 4 hrs battery backup also. i would like to enable desktop charging mode.
Running in extended desktop mode with my external monitor as the primary, the touch works as input on the laptop but the pen does not. When I put the pen to the screen of the tablet the pen icon appears on the external monitor screen only. I have gone to the Tablet PC Settings Setup to set up the pen (and hit "Enter" to change the screen for the input) but touching the pen to the Lenovo screen does nothing to set this option.  I feel if the touch screen will work in extended desktop mode, then the pen should and that I'm just missing something.I'm upgrading from the X60 and the workaround that I used for that tablet was to have two presets - one for extended desktop for the external monitor for everyday use and one for the laptop screen only for when I needed to use the tablet function while docked. That was a good workaround (although I would see the BSoD on a fairly regular basis) but I was hoping for more with the X220.  Specs:  Lenovo X220 Windows 7 Professional HPL2045W External Monitor Extended desktop
I've been searching for a laptop for 1 and a half months now and the Dell XPS M1530 really caught my eye as a good all rounder laptop with decent gaming abilities. I was really up for buying it till I read about how the new studio xps will be coming out and saw that many nbr members reccommends people going to buy a m1530 to wait a while. I've been waiting too long and kinda need a new laptop soon, hopefully in december.
My question is: How long will the m1530 last me if I did get one?
I'm hoping the laptop will last me 3-4 years, will santa rosa and nvidia 8600m last me through it? I don't mind it being old as long as I know that it can handle future programs/games at a decent mid range ability.
I know I can get another laptop that has the newer stuff but I have yet to find one that's not a Sony vaio fw (screen too big and heavy), hp dv5t (too glossy for my liking and I vowed never to go back HP again) or the Asus models (strange ugly design and bad port arrangements) all within £800 range.
I have the Pavilion g7-2235dx with Windows 8.1 operating system. Nearly every automatic update messes up my ability to get on the internet. The only way I can connect is to uninstall all of the updates. The icons on my desktop also stopped working. When I click on them, it goes right back to desktop. Can't pin them to the taskbar either. The ones on the taskbar won't open by clicking on them either. Have to right click and tell it to open. Also problem getting my Norton anti-virus to open. Says it working but can't open it.
I received an Inspiron 17r SE and have had absolutely no technical problems running it. The only thing that i don't understand is why my battery adapter whines whilst in sleep mode. This never occurs when the laptop is shut off or running but only when in sleep. The high pitched whine seems to oscillate with the blinking white light on the front of the laptop.
ive installed win7-32bit on my vaio sz650. everything works fine while connected to the power supply. but in battery mode my graphic driver keeps resetting sometimes, (and crashing the system).
this failure occurs mostly while watching video files or surfing on interactive websites.
sth like that ... ive tried using the different graphic-modes (speed/stamina) but the failure still occures in both modes. so i guess its not a problem with the drivers.
This laptop is advertised as having 8 hours battery life, but even when i turn my screen brightness right down and run in power saving mode i can just get 6 hours, is this normal or is there a fault with my laptop?
I'm facing an annoying problem with my T420. When in battery mode the machine goes to sleep after some minutes. WHILE I'm working on it... But than it is NOT possible to wake it again.
I have a lenovo z510 and i have one issue... when is plugged, it's very fast. when i unplug, everything is laggy. even when i scroll down on my facebook page, is very laggy. if i plug it in, it's very smooth and works perfect. I don't wanna mention if i wanna play assasins creed without being plugged in... is very laggy. I'm running windows 8.1 and all drivers are downloaded from lenovo website driver support... I've tried to change the profile.
On battery mode to run everything on maximum performance... but it doesn't work. same problem. I don't care if the battery runs out faster. i just want it to run fast when is on battery mode.
Recently I installed Windows 8.1 instead of Win7 on my IdeaPad S205. The problem is that the new Lenovo Energy Management tool doesn't let me swith the mode "Best Battery Heath". Everytime I click on it, it is automatically switched back on the "Maximum Battery Life" setting.
I also didn't find any tool where I can set my preferences (Best Battery Healt as standard). I have never had this problem on Windows 7.
On my old W520, it had a setting for making the battery last as long as possible. Â E.g. it didnt charge it to 100%.In my W530, which has windows 8, I can find no such option. Â In fact, all the Lenovo tools which came with the W520 dont seem to exist on the W530 (eiter because they dont have them for Windows 8, or they dont have them for the W530, dont know which). Â The only lenovo tools I have are th "solution senter" from red icon in the task bar (which has a battery icon, but the only thing it does is say "batter is in good condition", there are no options or settings, and the thinkVantage button, which just brings up somehting like some shortcuts to control panel items - no Lenovo tools (just things like update drivers, warranty infomration, keyboard settings etc). Â In the wiondows control panel itslef, are just: lenovo system healthlenovo update drivers 32bit (I never use this as I have 64 bit)Lenovo airbag protectionLenovo microphone muteIn control panel -> Power options is nothing Lenovo specific, and no lifespan mode, it only allows you to set when windows switches stuff off. Â What happened to all the tools which came with windows 7, including the thing which told you how fast the processor was running, the thing to change your printer etc. with different locations?
I've read other forums on similar issues, but I can't seem to find one that matches mine exactly. Â System:Â Y410p with 1tb hdd 24gb ssd intel i7-4700 8gb ram 64x windows 8.1 (came installed) Â Problem: When I put the computer into sleep mode, it goes into sleep mode without issue. It has stayed in sleep mode for a maximum of 8 hours, but usually before it hits this long the system will turn on. It seems to run random processes and overclock the processor as the computer gets very hot. It will do this until the battery dies, or if plugged in, indefinitely. Â While it is doing this I have opened the lid, pressed every key, including power, with no response. Once, and only once, upon pressing the space bar, it had actually come to the unlock screen as though it truly was in sleep (except it was still overheating and on). Otherwise my only option is hard shut down. Â I've just gone around it for a while now by shutting down every time and not using sleep. But today I had put it in sleep, and placed it in my backpack where it nearly cooked itself to death.I have tried:
-I have checked the wake_armed, which currently display NONE -I have checked last_wake -I have fiddled with hybrid shutdown.
I have a new Flex 14. When I turn it on, I frequently get the following message "The battery is charged to a high capacity. Staying above 70% of capacity for a long period of time is adverse to the battery health. Enable 'Conservation Mode' in Settings." I can not find "Conservation Mode" in "Settings." ?
I have my lenovo x230 laptop set to sleep when I close the lid. When I close the lid the "sleep" icon on the back of the screen lights up. But the batter will not last through the night on sleep mode. Within five hours or so, the battery is completely drained and I have to plug in and boot up the system. I've never seen such poor batter performance during sleep mode on any other laptop I've ever owned.  Another thread in this forum blames the USB port that allows you to charge mobile phones/etc. during low-power states and recommends disabling the "always power on" option fo this USB port in the Bios settings. At least my laptop still will not make it through the night in sleep mode.  At this point, it seems my ownly option is to use sleep mode only when the laptop is plugged in and hibernation mode when on batter power, which is disappointing. I've never had to worry about this in the past with other laptops. Perhaps/probably related is the fact that the lenovo ThinkVantage Power Manager (v. 7.16) hangs at the splash screen when I try to open it, so I've been trying to manage the power through the windows control panel power settings.
I have a Inspiron 14R for about a year and half now. This computer has done this since day one for some reason:
When I put the 14R in SLEEP mode, the computer remains in sleep mode for about 2-3 hours, then the computer shuts itself off, or goes into hibernation mode on it's own. The computer has Windows 7 Premiuim.
I have the power saving modes all set too SLEEP, and none in hibernation in any of the selections. I cannot for the life of me why this computer does this. I have a Lenovo I bought about a year later using Windows 7 Premium with all the same settings in the POWER section, and while in sleep mode, it STAYS in SLEEP mode, no matter the length of time in that mode. Any setting I need to turn off, and where to find it?Â
I know there's 2 ways to do this but I have speed concerns....basically I want to stick a Raptor into my laptop which is 99% of the time stationed. Here are the only two ways that I know.
1) Build an external USB 2.0 by buying an external exclosure etc.
2) Hooking the raptor directly up with a power source..This I remember seeing on Tom's Hardware but I cannot find it and I don't think they explain it that well...
What I am worried about is if the External Raptor would limit its power? and What do I need to hook it directly up to my laptop with a power source(wihtout screwing with laptop voltages).
Since I have a dell, I decided to ask here. My laptop is my primary unit that I use.
But there are a few things that I would like to use my desktop for, but I do not want to take up all the space that the entire desktop unit would use. Therefore, I was wondering if it is possible to run my desktop using my laptop as the display.
So I ordered my Alienware Area-51 with a bunch of upgrades totaling at something like $5000 on January 22nd. It has been in the "In Production" stage for a while and today they sent me an email saying the delivery date was changed to February 23rd. It was initially supposed to be shipped by February 16th.
So I'm wondering if "In Production" means they have actually started building the computer, or if there is a chance they are still processing payment information. Is there any chance they haven't confirmed the payment at this point, I would consider canceling the order.
Secondly, when Dell gives you a delayed ETA, how often do they delay the system from arriving further? I'm worried that a week and a half from now I will get another email saying I won't be getting my system until March.
I want to use my desktop to install XP on a notebook drive that I will then put in an Insiron 8000 notebook. It's too long to explain why I don't just use the notebook to do this.
So, is it possible to do with the PC? I assume I have to get a special type of connecting cable, but can it power the external notebook drive and can the data transfer handle a Windows full install and, finally, from where on the PC do I connect it?
I have an issue with DVI and my Sharp 37inch LCD. I cant get the 1730 to display the desktop to ONLY my Sharp TV. I've reloaded drivers and messed with ever setting known...even called Dell who wanted me to doa system resore!? I got the pc last week..
