Dell ::laptop/desktop Supported Ram?
Jul 30, 2009This is something I always wanted to know, if ram installed is past supported is there a chance of no bad side effects(bsods,no turning on,etc)?

View 10 RepliesI know there's 2 ways to do this but I have speed concerns....basically I want to stick a Raptor into my laptop which is 99% of the time stationed. Here are the only two ways that I know.
1) Build an external USB 2.0 by buying an external exclosure etc.
2) Hooking the raptor directly up with a power source..This I remember seeing on Tom's Hardware but I cannot find it and I don't think they explain it that well...
What I am worried about is if the External Raptor would limit its power? and What do I need to hook it directly up to my laptop with a power source(wihtout screwing with laptop voltages).
Since I have a dell, I decided to ask here. My laptop is my primary unit that I use.
But there are a few things that I would like to use my desktop for, but I do not want to take up all the space that the entire desktop unit would use. Therefore, I was wondering if it is possible to run my desktop using my laptop as the display.
about running a laptop chip on a desktop. I had a AMD Turion ML-44 2.4GHz single core socket 754 chip and I'm trying to find out if it can be used on a desktop 754 motherboard.
Specifically a replacement for a HP Pavilion a6700z:

I have also considered just posting it on the Pay it Forward thread here so anyone
interested in the chip please let me know!
I have the Pavilion g7-2235dx with Windows 8.1 operating system. Nearly every automatic update messes up my ability to get on the internet. The only way I can connect is to uninstall all of the updates. The icons on my desktop also stopped working. When I click on them, it goes right back to desktop. Can't pin them to the taskbar either. The ones on the taskbar won't open by clicking on them either. Have to right click and tell it to open. Also problem getting my Norton anti-virus to open. Says it working but can't open it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just bought my G62 laptop and have pretty much no complaint except the backspace's bounce seems to be a bit off and a little loud. However, I seem to notice this weird dimming issue when I set my laptop to either Power Saver or HP Recommended mode. When I go from the internet browser to the desktop and wait like 3 seconds, the screen seem to dim just a tiny bit. Sometimes it dims twice. Most noticeable when using the lowest brightness level. It's really bothering me, does anybody know what it is? It's not the auto-dim feature, because it dims in like 3 second. It just flickers a little bit.
Also, when I move a browser or window up and down, I can see this fuzziness on the outline of the window, including the outline of the search bar. I updated the display adapters, I have Intel HD Graphics display adapters.
My specs are:
i5-430m
4GB
Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
I have a wireless network setup between my desktop w/xp pro an my laptop w/vista home preminum Acer 5570Z.
My laptop can open drives & folders on my desktop, but my desktop can't open drives or folders on my laptop it says I don't have permission. I fixed this once before but can't remember what I did.
I have an HP DV 6000T. I just bought a HP Elite M9510f Desktop from HP.com, and I don't have a monitor yet, so I am trying to connect my Desktop VGA to my Laptop VGA in and use my DV6000T as a monitor.
I also have a Sharp TV which I tried using as a monitor but the thing keeps flashing the Power and OPC lights and won't let me see anything.
Anyway I can make my Laptop monitor work with my desktop for the time being?
My version of Roxio Creator Starter was corrupted yesterday (could not find some DLL) and the recommended fix was to re-install the software.
When I tried to re-download the software off My Dell Downloads, I found that my service tag was not supported. Dell's FAQs told me that this was because my system doesn't have anything available for download from My Dell Downloads.
More to the point, I would like to get Roxio Creator Starter back. I was led to believe that I could do this through My Dell Downloads, but that isn't working.
Did a goggle search and couldn't find an answer to "What is the XPS Motherboard Model: Dell Inc. 0D501F max supported RAM speed?"
Using HWiNFO32 it says "DDR2 Frequency Support:333MHz (DDR2-666)". It also reports that the current "Memory Speed: 333.3MHz (PC2-5300)" Ok, so far so good.....
Under SMBIOS DMI -> Memory Devices -> Memory Device both sticks of RAM are listed as "Memory Speed:667MHz" .....
I need to find out that on my Dell Inspiron 15 3521 which port is USB 2.I got an AudioBox USB to connect a microphone to my laptop. USB 3 is not supported.

I'm thinking of adding some extra life to it and doing a CPU upgrade to the best possible CPU. So I'm just wondering what's the fastest CPU the Vostro 1500 will still support? Is it the T9300, or something higher?

I am considering the Studio XPS 16 with a 25% coupon. The catch is that the only screen offering is the "Edge-to-Edge FHD Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1920x1080)".
I know that the best option is the RGBLED, however, with this coupon I get the configuration I want within my budget and I can live with just a decent screen, which I believe this one would be.
My questions are:
1) What people think about this screen in general?
2) Are the fonts looking too small in this one? and
3) Just in case I occasionally would like to use it in a lower resolution, e.g., 1600x900 is that possible? if yes, does it scale down good?
What cpus are supported? Will the Txxxx and Pxxxx work?

I have a Studio 1558 laptop with 4GB of RAM, which not too much, So I want now it to upgrade.

If possible then I would like to upgrade with 16 or 8 GB.
I've just tried downloading and installing the latest bios update for my XPS 13 laptop, update 3360A18.
When I run the update, from inside Win 7 x64, I get a "ERROR 242 - This is not a valid supported system!"
Okay, so all was working fine until today, my webcam has stopped working, When i boot Dell Webcam Central i get a message at the bottom stating "No supported webcam connected".
Video chats on MSN and facebook do not work, it's like the webcam no longer exists.
I think it was caused by some other webcam software, which i've since uninstalled.
I've tried reinstalling the "Quanta H.264 Integrate Webcam Rev: A00" driver from the resource disk - it did not work.
I've tried to use system restore to restore to a time i KNOW the webcam was working, it did not work.
I was trying to find the executable to reinstall Webcam Central to see if that had any effect, Went to the "Download Factory Installed Software (My Dell Downloads)" section of the website, and i get this message:
Register Your System
Please proceed to register your system by clicking "Register New System". Registration will allow us to display the software entitled for download. You will be automatically registered after your click "allow" on the service tag scanning utility.
I tick the box and click Register System - Nothing happens. It just stays on the same page. I thought this was because i was in Firefox so i tried IE... same problem. Except this time IE has an error on page.
So... i tried emailing dell support... yet ANOTHER error:
Error determining system information. Please try again later.

I know there is a Vaio CR owner's thread but I feel that this topic should have a thread of its own.
I recently saw that sony is fully supporting Vaio CR for windows 7 upgrade.
[url]
I got to get everything working except the function key support.
Somehow the sony shared library and vaio launcher software files are not installing on win 7 ultimate 64bit although sony says it should. I'm in communication with sony CSR and hopefully will get this resolved soon.
Other than function key I got everything else working and my system feels very fast.
If anyone needs any help in drivers or SW issues please don't hesitate to ask.
Am I able to run the laptop monitor, plus a VGA monitor, plus a HDMI monitor and a USB monitor all at the same time on a G60-513NR laptop? Laptop has all these ports available.

I am getting a T420 as my new Corporate laptop. I want to buy an SSD drive to replace the internal hard drive. I found the newest bios/firmware and looked at the Readme file. It lists the latest drives and model numbers but not any of the previous models? How do I get a complete list of all SSD drives/models supported on the T420? The laptop is going to be imaged with Win7 if that matters.

I have been told by sales that the W530 will NOT support SSD's larger than 256GB. I wonder if it is sales gimmick since the SSD uses the SATA3 interface that works with standard drives > 256GB. But before I go on a limb and buy a big SSD, I need to verify if I am wrong.
Using a 480GB or 512GB SSD drive in the W530 thinkpad?
To start off with one of the main reasons I purchased this product, is the advertisement that its Intel cpu supported wireless display
The product is an Acer V3 111P P16L, it has the Intel N3530 CPU , specification can be found here : " see screenshot for proof)

According to the spec in the link , this CPU supports the Wireless Display (AKA WiDi )correct me if I am wrong?
Also I specifically upgraded to a compatible Dual band NIC , the network card installed in the product supports Widi ( Intel Dual Band 7260 NIC)See screen shot below
however when initializing the Widi Update tool , the tool appears to start working then fails
