i run intel burn test on a macbook pro 13" with P7570 2.26GHz CPU, with vista 32 bit OS installed, the max temperature of CPU hits 96C which i have never seen from any other brand of laptop. quite a disappointing result.
I just bought a Dell Studio 1555 laptop with the following customizations made
1) Vista Home Premium x64 2) 9 Cell Battery 3) 512mb ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 4) 4 GB Ram
Can you guys recommend me some softwares which can check my Battery performance. I am not sure if I am right on this but "THIS" software when run simulates various levels of activity on the laptop such as Casual use, High Intensity use etc etc. It runs by itself and then we can see for how long the battery has lasted. I don't think the battery meter is very accurate so can you please help me with this. Thank you. I hope I have explained myself properly
Also an unrelated question. In the future if I wanted can I get my laptop upgraded in the following parts by Official Dell people? 1) Processor 2) Hard disk 3) G card 4) Ram .....
I have been testing my Studio 1557 today for throttling issues. The i7 does throttle down to the x10 multi under a 100% load on the CPU and GPU after about 10 minutes. But it seems to be temp related not starving for power.
When my GPU hits 100c it will throttle back to about 88c.When the GPU does that the multi on the CPU goes from 10x to 12x (1.6ghz stock speed). While the GPU creeps back to 100c the CPU stays at 10x until the GPU hits 100c then back to 12x for a few minutes.
Yup me again, in my hunt to determine if M6400 is right for me as it costs just about as much as a used car, I want to make sure its a good investment before I buy it.
What is the main difference with the M6400 and the M6400 Covet?
I configured both with the same specs and the Covet is about $900 more in price?
I have a 2 year old inspiron 9400 with alternating vertical bars (black and green vertical dashes) on boot up screens and black screen with windows.
It has the infamous go 7900 gs video card I've read about here and everywhere. I've reloaded the latest (A03) video drivers and have the latest (A09) bios on the machine.
I have checked the card for dust bunnies (actually removed it for a good look and to check connections) and other than removing a bit of dust the heat sink fins were open.
Video side fan turns on in the lower 70's degrees C and off in the upper 50's/C. I don't get any errors when I run the diagnostics (f12). It boots up in safe mode and VGA mode if I disable the graphics adapter while in safe mode.
That's how I'm using it now is in VGA mode. From what I read here I've joined the many many people who have had problems with the 7900 gs card in the inspiron.
decided to open up the keyboard to see why my keyboard was hitting my screen and found a wad of masking tape and a broken plastic sheath all taped up to a little connector from the keyboard.
I got a system exchange for my inspiron 1520 that had clicking/popping noises anytime audio was played, and my new m1530 has the exact same issue. (What I hear is a clicking/popping right before audio is played, and right after it stops for all my audio players. This also happens when it is paused.) I am wondering if this is just bad luck or if this is some mass hardware issue. So I pose the question, do you guys get clicking/popping on your 1520/1530's?
How to reproduce clicking/popping:
1) Plug in headphones
2)Turn volume down to less than 15% of the max volume (any higher and you risk ear damage)
3) Close media players, etc (not just pause, close them).
4) To try to standardize the tests, try running sounds directly from windows: Right click the speaker icon in your tray, hit sounds. Select one of the sounds and try using the test button. The most noticeable clicking/popping are at the bottom under "windows speech recognition" as the pop at the end is about 1/2 second delayed on some of them. Device connect, device disconnect, and the logon/logoff sounds are also very noticeable.
What is odd for me is that each sound has different clicks/pops, and that they are consistent for each one. I also don't think its my headphones either, as I have three pairs (One Sennheiser, one creative, one sony) and they each produce the same clicking/popping pattern for each sound.
After all my hard work - stripped down CPU, GPU and then AS5ed it over the weekend...I only went and played Crysis yesterday with the Power supply pushed up against the back wight hand vent of my 1710.
After 1 hour of playing, I went to check the temps - all smug in the fact I knew I wouldnt be over 90 after all my hard work, and weekend testing....
Imagine my horror when I saw 103C....hope I havent fried my card.
So I decided to buy a cooler after reading everything in the cooler review threads and grabbed an Enermax Aeolus Aluminum Notebook Cooler w/ 250mm Fan. I only have an extended battery and
I can't really tell any dramatic difference so far. I am just wondering what the masses have decided is the best for our particuliar notebook!
I bought Dell Inspiron n5520 i7 laptop a few days ago and downloaded and installed drivers by entering my service tag. Everything is working fine. But, I can't check my GPU temperature on HWmonitor. I can only see temperature of Intel(R) HD graphics 4000 but, its not detecting AMD 7670M....
A company bought laptop with model : E7240 & E7440, So those laptops come with Windows 8 product-key store on mainboard. I would like to get that number because those laptops werer installed Wiindows 7 from our Global IT but right now those laptops are transfering to new owner and Global license of Win7 is end. Is possible to get product-key from each laptop for downgraded the license to Win7 without re-install the OS ?
i have a dell vostro 3500i think my usb ports does not receive enough voltage because sometimes my usb ports does not work and there is no software problem i checked it how could i check that?
My studio 1555 with Radeon 4570 graphics starts the fan very often, when the GPU temp reaches 51C and stops when it hits 44C. It only takes 3-5 minutes to go from 44C to 51C and thats with me doing NOTHING on the computer. So I'm seriously thinking about going to a non-Radeon Studio 1555 as i like the laptop overall.
I just wanted to know for the 4500MHD owners, does your fan go off even if the laptop is just sitting there idle doing nothing at all? If you can download the program i8kfangui to monitor your CPU, GPU, and Chipset temps. I'd appreciate it if you could just turn the reply back with your Peak temps for the CPU, GPU, and chipset. (if you don't see them displayed go to Options -> Status Reading tab -> check the three boxes for the above items. Please click on Reset Peak Values then let your laptop sit idle for 10-20min.

I need to check the normal operating temperature for the Dell Latitude E7440. My fan is constantly on and the air coming out the side vent is extremely hot. I have installed a temperature app and with basic use (windows 8.1 and 2 or 3 apps open) the core 0 and core 1 of the processor are running between 85 and 90 degrees Celsius. When plugged into power, the fan is permanently on high speed. I don't know if this is normal. I dont understand why it is getting so hot, i have the i7, 8GB, 256GB SSD, so literally no moving parts to generate heat. My battery (47Wh) drains very quickly as well, 2 1/2 hours max.
