The 1640/45/47 owners and the m1330 owners have their respective replacements threads. There has also been a concern about getting Alienware instead of XPS thread. So I created this thread because the Studio XPS 1340 has reached EOL and is no longer offered as a replacement. Thus, I would like 1340 owners' help in tracking and monitoring replacements.
Please specify experiences regarding:What are the specs of your current XPS 1340?What system was received in lieu of the SXPS 1340? Specs? New or Refurb? At what point were you aware of the system you were going to receive? How long did the systems' exchange process take?Did you attempt escalation or any form of negotiation? Are you happy with your replacement? .........
I am going to Wales in about two weeks for university and i am looking for the AC unit for the 1340 Can any 1340 UK users please tell me which model their power brick is? or where i can buy them. In Canada we have best buy and etc. What type of big box stores sells dell accessories in the UK.
I had to to a complete fresh reinstall. The DVDs have no software for the webcam nor does the website. Just spent an hour with dell chat and remote checking and they cant figure it out.
They are sending someone out to replace the webcam - I think they are wrong - its a Vista 64/creative/Dell softare/driver issue. I had to do a reinstall after a BSOD. The camera worked fine until the BSOD.
I had been running Windows 7 for 2 weeks on my 13 and I kept on getting lockups. It would just freeze up. Only bios functions would work.
I had dell replace the motherboad, heatsinks and processor and it still locked up, the laptop was running really hot too.
I spoke to dell and they asked if I was running windows 7, I said yes, they said the laptop did not support 7 (yeah right) and I was to test under vista. So I reinstalled vista and the freezes totally stopped. Been running for one day solid now without a hitch.
I think there must be some driver conflicts running 7 which makes the laptop over heat.
I've been running Windows7 on my laptop for a good month now, or longer, and I've always had this issue with Firefox, it constantly crashes. I can't really reproduce it at will, but its often enough that in a one hour browsing session it can crash 2-3 times.
All drivers are up to date, Firefox is up to date...I run the same on my desktop and have never had an issue so it must be something specific.
I've already had a number of minor, yet unfixed problems: -cannot hibernate without freezing -strip of touch-buttons become unusable -strip of touch-buttons don't illuminate, or some do and others don't -keypad occasionally sticks during typing -touchpad becomes unusable
what bothered me most, however, is last night when I was typing and all of a sudden many of the keypad buttons weren't going through unless I went back and hit them again. moreover was when I went to shutdown for the night, and after everything on the desktop disappeared in preparation for logging off and shutting down, only the wallpaper and mouse stayed up, for a little over five minutes; then the "logging off..." screen appeared, and stayed for over ten minutes, by which time I simply shutdown via pressing the power button. therefore when I started it up again this morning, it displayed the screen saying how an improper shutdown occurred previously, asking how to start. I said "start Windows normally" and so far so good, as usual.
Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 Rating: 5.2 Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8600 @ 2.40GHz Memory (RAM): 4 GB System: 64-bit OS
I want to replace my current hard drive which is 7200rpm 500gb seagate with SSD. Problem is on vista scoring chart there is either lower ranked ones or high ranked ones. obviously i want something higher ranked that my current Hard drive score of 5.9
When I turn off the computer, it does not turn off all the time (sometimes it does, and most of the time it doesn't), the screen truns off like it wants to shut down, but then the computer hangs up, with the HDD disk light flashing, and it never shuts down, requiring a hard shut down.
I have not installed any new software...nothing different has happened, and I did try system restore, going back quite a ways, it did not work....
The Nvidia hybrid SLI settings has disappeared from the vista power settings. I've tried and reinstall motherboard and graphics card drivers but it did not help. How do I get it again?
Are there other programs to switch on and off for hybrid sli?
Sometimes, for example, when I open a new tab in Google Chrome (not beta) and enter a web site, or click a link etc. the notebook locks up. This sometimes happens with other softwares, or just Windows softwares, or browsing files randomly.
When it locks up, hard-drive is flashing and hard-drive activity not stopping. I am able to move the cursor, but I cannot click anywhere. Even I cannot open task manager, the ctrl-alt-del also doesn't work. I have to push the power button to reset the notebook.
Notebook's specifications are:
OS Version 6.1.7600 (Win7 64-bit RTM) Mobile DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo P8600, 2400 MHz (9 x 267) 3840 MB (DDR3-1066 DDR3 SDRAM) NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G (2x256 MB) IDT 92HD73C1/92HDW74C1/92HDW74C2 @ nVIDIA MCP79/7A - High Definition Audio Controller WDC WD32 00BJKT-75F4T SCSI Disk Device (298 GB) Dell Wireless 1515 Wireless-N Adapter (192.168.1.10)
I hope I am using the right part of this forum to ask this... Heres my problem: I bought new Dell studio XPS 1340 (CPU: I Core2Duo T9300, GPU: GeForce 9500M (GF 9400MG + GF 9200MGS, HDD: 320GB, 7.2k, RAM: 4GB)
and I had some troubles configuring my graphic cards in SLI mode. I read somewhere, that BIOS upgrade from A07, which I have, to A11 will help with this problem.
I downloaded A11 BIOS update, but the setup wont recognize my current BIOS. When I load into the BIOS I see, that its really rev. A07, also it has header from Dell inc.
I was trying to get Dell to match Best Buy's price on the Studio XPS (AND get a LED screen without them noticing) and one of the reps gave me this link
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellsto...YDEGF1&x=2&y=9 It is the old offer with the $200 gift card but no LED screen
apple didnt release drivers which support gpu switching in it's new version for windows. basically, the drivers used in your dell is the same as that which will be used by my mac because our boards are the same(mcp79).
for the gpu driver, i'm currently downloading 179.82, A06 from dell.com and then i'll paste a modded inf so that my 9600m gt is also detected ....
I recently had my screen replaced by dell dispatch for my studio XPS 1340. My hinges were loose, instead of replacing just the hinges dell dispatch had replaced the whole screen. My question is can you tell a difference between CCFL and LED. My specs is LED I just want to make sure the technician, replace with the right screen. Is LED thinner than CCFL if so what is the technical spec of thickness between the two. Is there a way to check if you have a 1.3 or 2.0 webcam.
My Studio XPS 1340 runs just fine, it's not overheating or anything, but once in a while it randomly just beeps. I think it must be an internal buzzer, it sounds like it comes from the left hand side of the keyboard somewhere. It's not too big of a deal, but Id just like to know why it randomly does this.
I have over clocked my 9400mg geforce card and processor from 2.4 to 2.7, the system is very stable I guess i found the "sweet spot".
Anyway we all know xps 1340 heats up like a skillet. Im think about modding it in terms of cooling/fans/heat sinks... Im trying to find a copper or a better heat sink than the stock one. or maybe a slighty stronger fan?
Does anyone know any sites or information how to make it cooler...?
I dont want to buy a cooling pad because I think it looks adds extra stug the a very small laptop.
So im not sure if this is a widespread problem but my xps refuses to boot windows 7 off battery power, it'll go into the "starting windows" screen and just stay there, for hours if left.
It started about a week ago. All the sudden I went to pick up my laptop while it was open and the screen just shut off.
The computer was running, but the screen wouldn't come back on. I tried closing it and opening it and it didn't do anything....so I turned it off and back on and it would flicker light in the bottom right hand corner but no image would appear.
Then eventually, after I kept trying it just started working again like normal until yesterday when I was watching a video and all the sudden it just shut the screen off..
I recieved my XPS Studio 1340 a couple of days ago and I've benchmarked it against a couple of games and applications. My specs are as follows:
P8600 2.4ghz 3GB DDR3 320GB 7200rpm WLED WXGA 256mb 9500M G 6 cell Bluetooth Vista Home Premium 64-bit
General Performance
WPrime 32M: 32.666s
SuperPi 1.5 1M: 21.747s
HD Tune
9400M G vs. 9500M G (9400M G + 9200M GS)
Forceware 176.89 (default) vs. 179.48 (12/2/09)
Conclusion For the love of god, upgrade your drivers.
Upgrading from the default drivers that ship with the laptop, to the latest Nvidia drivers gives extreme performance benefits in a couple of games. I think the largest benefits would be seen in newer games, since they're the ones which would recieve all the optimisations.
Note: By default I couldn't get the 179.48 drivers to install. I had to use a hacked INF to install it. YMMV, I haven't done extensive testing to see if it's safe to keep the 179.48 drivers permanently installed.
I'm currently running on the 178.75 drivers that can get gotten from Dell for Vista x64, and these drivers seem stable. I'll do a little more testing to see if these drivers yield the same performance increase as 179.48 does.
