Is it possible to drop a quad core CPU into my Dell Studio XPS 13? Am doing a lot of VM work and having only a Dual core CPU is becoming a limiting factor
I just got a XPS Studio 16 and would like to know what would be the best CPU upgrade for best performance that I could install in this laptop?
I'm not asking for the best one that Dell can offer on their site, because I'm pretty sure it's not the best one, but really the best one that can fit and be compatible with the Studio 16 without any issues?
Is the Dell Studio XPS 16 getting a graphics card upgrade anytime soon? I'm thinking about buying one soon, I really like 'em but the graphics card is the slowest thing in it for me. I know it's a multimedia laptop, not a gaming laptop but cmon now. On Dell's page, GAMING is the biggest keyword for this laptop. ATI HD 4670 is last gen and DX 11 is upon us. Competitor HP Envy 15 is already using the HD 5830. So can we expect a graphics card upgrade anytime soon from Dell?
I am planning to buy S XPS 16 next week, wanted your suggestion/comments on the below:
The base model comes with 4 GB RAM. Upgrading to 6 GB costs around $360.
I was planning to add more RAM later but couldn't find cheap 3GB RAM stick pair. I am not sure whether this laptop has more than 2 RAM slots, so thought that I would need two 3 GB sticks to make 6 GB RAM.
Do any of you know how I can upgrade the RAM to 6 GB myself? Any links for cheap RAM compatible with this laptop?
I was wanting to upgrade the processor in my Dell Studio 1737 to a Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile T9400 2.533GHz 1066 6MB ES QAEL I currently have the Intel T6400. Will this work?
I have tried to find info on suitable processor upgrade for the 1537 that I am picking up tomorrow. It comes with the T3400 cpu which I am not a big fan of. I currently have a D630 with a T7500,
and was thinking of putting the T7500 into the 1537. However, after some researching, realized that they come from different platforms with diff FSB. Would that be a big problem? is this upgrade worth it?
If not the T7500, What other processor would you recommand? I have seen people using processors with 800mhz FSB, but not sure whats a good processor to upgrade to...
Does anyone know if you can swap the regular CPU (c2d P6600) for the new i7-720QM without problems? I realized that the 1557 has a new motherboard to accomidate both the i7 and DDR3 RAM...
ive backed up the imp stuff on C: on my G and H drives,
do i need to backup my G and H drives to a external hdd too for a fresh install of win7 ? (iam just planning to format C: for win7 installation when the win7 installer asks for it)
For those of you that have a 1640 and have upgraded from Vista to 7, how long did the install take you? And my second question is...did you run into any complications with the upgrade process that I should be aware of before I start it on my wife's laptop?
i just did a clean install of windows 7 on my studio 1555 and was having some issues with the audio drivers. i found and installed the idt audio drivers from the dell website,
but it didn't seem to install the idt audio software with it. i know the idt codec is installed because when i go into device manager it shows up,
but i really liked the nifty idt software that came with vista that allowed me to switch between headphone and hdmi output quite easily as well as turn off all of the stupid SRS sound enhancements.
Do not purchase the dell studio 14z if you plan to upgrade your laptop to windows 7, I purchased mine on the 30th from bestbuy and went to sign up for the program but because dell gave the laptop to them on the 18th of june it's not eligible, so I had to return it to bestbuy and order the same thing through dell.
Definatly upgrade to the 900p screen, the 720 screens are grainy and u can see spaces inbetween each pixel causing u to see columns, my friends 14z with 900p doesnt have these spaces and has way better viewing angles.
I'm getting a Studio 1555 with the t4200 Penryn Pentium Dual Core CPU. Would a P8600 Core 2 Duo work if I put it in the socket? It seems to be exactly the same core, just faster FSB and multiplier. My guess is Dell use the same motherboard for all 1555 laptops.
I have a Studio 1735 with 2 X 250GB HDD's... but this is not enough for me. Is it possible to upgrade them to 500GB HDD's each or even 2 x 1TB drives?
If so what type of hard drive do I need and can you provide links?
This would be great as I do not want another external HDD & plus I need to reinstall Vista...too much crap on my laptop now and it frequently hangs / freezes / slow boot load etc
i have dell studio 1558 system.i have replaced dvd drive in warranty period. i wanted to upgrade dvd drive firmware because i am unable to read some dvd's. the problem is that, on dell website after putting service tag number for drivers, list shows dvd drive firmware for old dvd drive i.e tsst firmware.
my current dvd drive is MODEL NAME: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GA31NVERSION: A200OEM CODE: 10/
I just upgraded my Studio 1537's processor from a P8400 to a T9400 and it worked great until my laptop crashed and showed a blue screen saying "uncorrectable hardware failure". How can I fix this and not have it be a total waste of my time?
I did an upgrade from win vista x32 to win 7 x64 on my Dell Studio 1735. Â In order to do that upgrade I did change the HDD to a 1 TB and update from 3GB to 4GB ram.
Now I have on item still not working after that upgrade. Â Â The integrated biometric (fingerprint reader) refuse to work. Â Windows 7 x64 did detect that it was an Authentec device, and installed it driver.
But If I installe the software for the reader. Â It refuse to install and give this as the reason (No driver installed for the reader) Â I've tried to replace the windows driver with the original Authentec drivers, but windows 7 replace the drivers with it's own.
Any windows 7 drivers out there for my Authentec integrated device ? Â
I should be getting my upgrade (Pro 64) within the next week and was wondering which method is better. I obviously know that it will run a bit faster for the first month or so with clean install, however, my concern is with the activation of the dell free upgrade version. Will it simply be boot the free upgrade disk and install and it will be activated fine? Or, is there more to it? Also, say a year from now I wanted reformat/reinstall win 7... How would I go about doing that with the dell free upgrade DVD?
