I have an aging M1210 with 2 gigs of ran, a OCZ SSD & the C2D 2ghz T7200 processor.
I wasnt really planning on an upgrade but the pricing looks pretty good.
I am not sure if its worth it though. My M1210 with SSD is amazing.
I just dont know if going from a 2.0 T7200 to a 2.66 T9550 is worth it or if i should wait longer for an I7 system in this size?
I got a good deal on Vostro 1320 base model and just got confirmation from Dell Canada. Now can any one share your opionion whether it is worthwhile to add the integrated 1.3M webcam for $40 and upgrade HD from 160G 5400rpm HD to 250G 7200rpm HD with free fall sensor for $50 (all before tax)?
I might call them to see if they can manually upgrade for me.
I know I can upgrade the HD afterward, and I usually can find a good deal on 320G 7200rpm Hitachi HD for $70 or so if I can wait.
But my question is how difficult and how much hassle is to upgrade HD myself, and does that invalid the warranty, also what does the free fall sensor mean? Worth to have it?
Im using an Acer 5920G with Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz CPU.
CPU-Z shows the FSB at 200Mhz but the multiplier is only 8.0X when it should be 10.0X
I cant find a way to change the Multiplier in the BIOS either. Ive installed Win7 Ultimate and it recognises my CPU as 2.0Ghz so is CPU-Z wrong?
i own a Hp dv6817tx, that comes with a T5750, i was wondering if it is possible to upgrade to the T7500, AND if so is it worth the upgrade?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI know that the T7600 runs @ 2.33 GHZ with the same FSB and also the same L2 Cache, but what striked me is that when I was looking for the T7600 I found that the PRICE IS CRAZY, avaerging $650 to $750.... This is Freakingly insane! I don't know why, well after eBaying I found it for arround $200 USED, So Im currently thinking about buying it.
BUT, I'm very worried that those $200 will be thrown away if the T7600 will not work in my VGN-SZ48GN_C.
confirm that it will work?
THE SZ Is an awesome machine, mine is Made In Japan, and I just can't justify seeling it for cheap $$$ and getting the Z Model, thats why I opted for UPGRADING the following:
1. CPU from T7200 to T7600
2. SSD 64GB
3. Maybe later a 64-Bit Vista (if I found all the drivers for that OS)
I flicked through the 78 Pages in this thread willing to find information about plp getting a CPU Upgrade, but unfortunately the SZ48GN has no luck.
I guess that the T7600 2.33 GHz and L2 Cache of 4 MB will compete with latest P and/or T series CPU, will this upgrade Boost my overall system Performance?
Its time that we polish our SZ and save the bucks of buying the Z, it has its beauty as well, I admit it, but Think that Upgrading the SZ will give us a boost while being easy on our Pockets.
If you guys check for the T7600 using Google, you will be shocked by the prices, but use eBay instead, and then the magic will show............

I have a Dell XPS M1210 notebook with 2x512MB DDR2 533MHz Memory. Now i wants to upgrade my memory but there is a lot of confusion in what module

I currently have an ASUS G50V-A2 and am looking to sell it to get a new Dell XPS 1640 with the new graphics chipset.
I have only had the ASUS since last October, but I am always wanting a new laptop every 6 - 12 months and this Dell has caught my eye.
Looking at the specs they are similiar, but the Dell does have a few upgrades to what I have:
2.66GHz processor (Asus - 2.53)
Vista Upgrade to Windows 7 (Asus - no upgrade)
1920x1080 (Asus - 1680x1050)
ATI 4760 (Asus - Geforce 9700GT) .....
Some people may remember me as not liking Vista too much, and going out of my way to keep XP or installing XP in place of Vista.
I have used Vista for some time though, and familiarized myself to it. I used it for about a year if anyone is interested (still have XP on my main laptop though).
I have been out of the loop regarding technology and software, and last week, I found out that Windows 7 came out. I remember reading about Windows 7 and heard its supposed to be this "GREAT AWESOME NEW OS YO" and "waaayyyy better than Vista... cant wait for it to come out". So I got excited, made plans to buy a new HDD and install it on my ancient but still running dv9500t. Before I actually make that sort of investment and commitment, I went to Best Buy to try it on their laptops...
To me, its just like Vista. It looks and acts just like Vista. Am I missing something here?
Are there supposed to be great improvements? If so, then what? And how true are these claims?
A quick look at the new Windows 7 site by Microsoft showed me that they are comparing the Windows XP from the stone age to Windows 7, rather than compare Vista and Win7... that makes me laugh and wonder. The things that they list about Windows 7, I noticed that Vista had them too, with the exception of "shake the window and only focus on it". Whats going on here?
I'm in love with the computer but it seems to be lacking a bit in speed. I usually use my desktop that has a Q6600 along with 4 GB of RAM. I do use this frequently though while on the road and while it's fairly quick I notice that it gets a bit bogged down at times. It currently has a T4200 along with 2 GB of RAM. As with all of my new computers I formatted it it upon delivery with Windows XP Pro SP3 so it's not a matter of bloatware and such. Is it worth it to upgrade the processor? Would bit be a significant difference in speed? If so could you please suggest a processor that would be the best bang of the buck? I stated the P8700 because it's the fastest processor that Dell offers but if there's something better please don't hesitate to offer a suggestion.

Im definitely upgrading to 4gb ram, but wavering on the HD. Is there a significant performance gain from the 7200rpm drives?
im not sure if i want a graphic card in it, as it would just eat battery life and i would get nothing much out of it, since i have no plans in gaming with it.
i will be, however massively watching movies, and streaming movies (99.9% of the web, not dvd player) would that need a dedicated graphic card?

So I am contemplating between these two models but can't really decide. I like the real estate of the Vostro 1520 but the weight may be a problem. The 1320 is an option cause of it's battery life and weight. But at this point I am at a standstill...
So mainly, what are your opinions about these two macines..

Questions:
1. I'm almost sure it'll work with her Intel graphics. Am I right?
2. As you know the Vostro doesn't have a DVI or Display port. Will it output the full 1080 to our 23" monitor through the VGA?
Ordered a Vostro 1320 from the Dell outlet last week and it arrived in 3 days
Having previously owned its older and bigger brother, the 1510, I decided to order the 1320 because I got a good deal on it on the Outlet .....
I'm looking for opinions on which of these notebooks to purchase. I like both because they are 13" form factor and both are nicely spec'd but the Vostro is cheaper when spec'd out. I can get both in red which is another plus.
I can't find much info on the Vostro 1320 here on the forums and I do know that there are some heat issues with the XPS 13 that seem to be alleviated through updates.
I had some issues with the vostro that i have, its been very frustrating, when i have the battery in, it will goes to hibernate supposedly due to low battery after some usage

I have a dell Vostro a860. Real nice machine!! I would like to get a better CPU than the Celeron one that it comes with. From what I've read its a pain to take apart the the A860, but I would like to get a little more performance with a better CPU. I have upgraded to 4 gb of ram but it is not much better than the 1 gb it came with. I would like to know what is the best CPU I can Upgrade to on my machine.
View 10 Replies View RelatedThe Vostro 1320 looks almost ideal for what I need (a pc easy to move around but can still serve as desktop replacement for most tasks). The matte screen is a big plus, as is the integrated optical drive. The price is also quite reasonable.
I however question his long term durability. I'd like to keep this laptop for around 4 years. Is the 5400 more susceptible to last that long ? It's a bit bigger but I'm ok with that, as long as there is a real quality difference. It's still smaller than my current 15"
I am intending to buy a Vostro 1320, I will use it for text editing, Internet surfing, occassional photoediting, so I don't have high hardware demands only that computer works smoothly.
There are some things which I dont understand:
1) they offer processors with fsb 800 Mhz and fsb 1066 Mhz, but the RAM memory works on 800 Mhz
I am prepared to pay for little bit better processor but do I have advantage of better CPU when I have slower Ram ?
2) they have also half-height and full-height wireless card,
is it some particular advantage with half-height ?
3) is it worth to buy 256 MB Nvidia instead of onboard Intel X4500MHD graphics card, and as I said my demands on graphics are not so high ?
I recently received my new Vostro 1320 and i'm quite satisfied with the system thus far.
I would however really like to put my own copy of XP on it (the system came with Vista Basic). I have my own copy of XP and all the XP drivers from dell's support site.
I've heard that there might be some issues regarding the BIOS that might make the reformat less than simple. Can anyone provide any advice about it or should I go about it as usual.
I want something around 12 to 13", fast, that can handle the latest windows without lag or anything.
I don't plan to play games on this laptop, maybe some movies. I will usually be using it for Word, internet, and regular things.
