I am picking up an external HD and will make a complete backup of my system with time machine. I will then install windows XP with bootcamp. I am going to format it as FAT32 so I have the ability to transfer files from mac to windows, but will that have an effect on game performance? I am mainly doing this to play black and white 2 and oblivion. I know oblivion will play well but how well will black and white 2 perform?
I want to dual boot the new Win 7 RC with the default Windows Vista OS already on the M1530.
My issues lie in not being able to make a 5th partition on the HDD for Win7 to go onto. Is there any way to keep my computer intact the it is and get Win7 on the HDD?
Before I deleted the Media Direct Partition but thats a horrible idea... just wondering if it would be possible without keeping another 2.5" HDD around just to have Win 7 sit on.
how to guide for dual tri or quad boot linux with xp vista or 7 or all 3
Ubuntu is available as a "live" CD, which means that you can use it directly from the CD without installing it. But running an operating system from a CD is slow, to see what Ubuntu can do running at full speed, you need to install it to your hard disk.
The ideal situation would be to install Ubuntu on it's own separate hard disk, but most people don't have two hard drives in their computer, and most people are not prepared to give up Windows. Therefore they have to install Ubuntu along-side Windows on the same hard disk in a dual-boot configuration.
Configuring a dual-boot system involves partitioning your hard disk to make space for Ubuntu. When your computer first starts, it reads information on the first sector of the hard drive which tells it where to find the "boot loader". The boot loader is a file with information about the installed operating systems and how to start them.
The boot loader for Windows is a file named "boot.ini". The boot loader for a Linux system (like Ubuntu) is GRUB (Grand Unified Boot Loader). When you install Ubuntu in a dual-boot system, it redirects the system to use GRUB. When you first start your system, GRUB presents a list of options, including starting Ubuntu or starting Windows. So you'll still be able to use your Windows operating system.
To install Ubuntu, start it with the live CD. To use the live CD, your computer's BIOS must be configured to boot from the CD drive. It's probably already configured that way, but if not, when your computer first starts watch for a message telling you which key to press to access the BIOS setup. Most computers use the F2, F1, Esc, or Del key.........
I have a G6 - 2235us Notebook 64 bit that came with Windows 8.0  installed.I would like to install Windows 7 Pro and make it dual book with Windows 8.0 with 7 as the default to start.
How to proceed and also the drivers, etc I would need to download.
where I can get 32 bit Windows Vista drivers for WLAN on the Acer Aspire V 11 Touch? Can dual boot the software but cannot connect to the internet on Vista.
I have a y410p with windows 8 on it. I recently installed a debian based linux alongside windows so I can dual boot them. This required me to also add Grub to the the disk. But grub was in legacy mode and i had problems booting up win8. So, I used boot-repair to try to fix it, but it seems to have gotten worse.
My flatmate is having a problem with her laptop (Dell Studio 15) I'm entirely sure on the specs but I do know its Core 2 Duo, ATI Gfx card, 3gb ram, 25gb hdd, and the usual.
Basically the laptop powers on ok however during the booting up stage the laptop pretty much stops just before windows is supposed to load up where the screen is black with the mouse cursor available which can be moved however from then on it doesn't do anything.
i would like a bit of raid action or a ssd to compliment my 500gb drive but i doubt it has the additional bay and i cant be bothered taking all those screws out......
I've asked Dell but they are clueless..... does anyone know if the Studio 17 laptop can output display to twin 24" screens at 1920x1200?
Ideally I would like to know if it can output a digital signal to both screens?
Dell suggested that it may be possible with a Displayport to dual DVI cable.....
I haven't ordered the laptop yet so would consider any options that would allow dual digital display.... eg. upgraded graphics card or use of a docking station.
Dell sent me a 1647 as a replacement for a faulty 1640 but they didnt install the bluray drive like my 1640 had, and now they said that they are not going to
Perhaps some of you have more experience with this than I do, so I thought I'd ask.
I know the 1640 has DisplayPort, VGA and HDMI outs -- my question is this: Can I run two external monitors with this laptop using the outputs --
I'd like to run 2 24" (1900x1200) from the 1640 -- I don't really care if the internal LCD works when I have it plugged it -- I'm just looking for a psuedo-docking solution when I'm at home at my desk
I have Dell Studio 1558 laptop, when i switch ON it is not booting.. i can hear the sound of fan & the Drive but i cant see anything on the screen, sometimes it will boot up but it will work for only 10 mins then the screen will go off & will never come ON again.
When i ran the Diagnostics by pressing F12 during startup i got an error message
I have Dell Studio 1537 laptop which is out of warranty. I decided to upgrade my CPU from T5800 to T7500.
When I started laptop after upgrade a message appear: "no microcode update loaded for booting processor" and I have 2 choices (press F1 to continue and press F2 to enter BIOS).
When I press F1 laptop loads and works. The only problem I see now is that CapsLock and NumLk lights does not appear when I press the buttons.
I am about to make a purchase on the Studio XPS 16..
However, my main issue is would it be able to drive my 2 Dell 3007WFP-HC displays?..
I am aware that the Studio XPS 16 has a HDMI and DisplayPort built it.. Provided I am able to get all the conversion cables, could this laptop drive my 2 30" monitors at their native (2560 x 1600) resolution?..
my studio 1747 (not in warranty) (i7 win7),has stopped booting anymore it was working fine till last week ( occasionally my screen does flick in last coupon of month), So when I do turn my system on all upper volumn light flashes from left to right and then right to left and then system turn off itself, during that period screen show no display.
connecting external monitor (TV via hdmi) does work and system boots fine show display on external monitor but no display on system LCD. Something display flicks on external montor also, it happens when my laptop LCD tries to display something (i.e. sometime laptop LCD flicks and sometime it display for few seconds and then go back to Black screen). Also when connect external monitor my mouse pad stops work and sometime works when I connect usb mouse, but when LCD screen start display something, mouse pad also starts work.I tried all stuff, whatever I could find on internet as below Â
1) Taking battery off and press power button for 1 min.  2) Hold 'D' key and then press power button LCD sometime show some color and then goes back to black.  3) Removed battery and CMOS battery to total drain of charges.  4) Removed keyboard panel and checked LCD display cable and make sure its not loose.
To me it seems like motherboard, graphic card are fine as system is working on external monitor, LCD screen also looks fine as sometime is display and not greying out (its either Black-out or display). As I have also checked cable is properly attached with motherboard, so it can't be loose connection. Don't understand why LCD works sometime.
I have a Dell Studio 1558 laptop which is currently four years old and out of warranty.
Currently, with or without the battery with AC adapter connected when I press the power button, the power light does not light up but the battery status light keeps on blinking until the power button is pressed. I don't see any boot up screen or hear any sound of CPU fan running in the mean time. Basically, it does not start at all.
I recently got new dell authorized battery as a replacement for laptop fearing that could be source of problem. However, the new battery does no good. I checked the battery health and status and its fine.
Before this issue the laptop would start and immediately on boot screen it would shut down. So, I got it fixed from a repair service center who cleaned up the clogged cpu fan. It worked fine for two days and then the issue resurfaced.
Now, it does not start at all. I even checked with another adapter and also changed the CMOS battery (as date and time kept changing on every boot) but the issue still remains.
Also tried removing and reconnecting the RAMs one after another and then trying to boot. Also tried draining the static charge if any after removing the battery and adapter and then holding the power button for 50 seconds. Reconnecting with ac adapter with or without battery then also does not start the system.
It sure does look like that Clevo 18in revealed sometime ago.

Under the hood of the 17.1-inch Firefly we found a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad Core CPU, 4GB of RAM, a pair of ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 GPUs running in CrossFire mode, and a 7,200 rpm 250GB hard drive. The Firefly spec sheet said the machine is capable of overclocking, but we didn’t touch the BIOS.
And a MultiTouch trackpad, Backlit keyboard (with m15x-esque customizable colours), Creative X-Fi audio and a Dual Hinge like the HDX 20.
It sure does look like that Clevo 18in revealed sometime ago. This is not an OCZ Whitebook rebrand.

I have recently purchased a W540 and connected to my Dell u3011 30" monitor. I used the Dual Link DVI-D cable that came with the monitor and plugged it into my Ultra Dock. The maximum resolution i can get is 1920x1080? When i change over to a Display port cable i can achieve the full 2560 x 1600 resolution? Is there something i need to do in addition to achieve the full 2560x1600 resolution with the DVI-D dual link cable? I want to be able to connect 2 laptops to the one monitor and only have 1 display port input so i need to be able to use the DVI cable on the 2nd machine while still achieving 2560x1600 resolution.
I had bought a lap with 500 GB hard drive 2 days back. now its not booting properly showing a window
" Window failed to start a recent hardware or software chage might be the cause Select from below

When i tried to setup using windows vista Disk its showing both drives but the main c drive (450 GB ) is shown as unallocated disk and when i created a following text popeup showing " Failed to create new partition on selected unused space " and only second drive 15 gb is shown active and its is a bakup drive of Dell
Trying to update USB3 driver via various options following re-install of OS (another story/issue) - tried via the drivers CD but couldn't see what I was looking for. Back to Dell website and downloaded and 'installed' what was hopefully the right one. Re-booted, but aagh forgot to take the CD out of the drive! And the laptop entered lots of stuff via the command prompt screen and has come to a halt with a message:
A RAM DISK drive is available for this boot cycle as C.It contains several Hard Drive setup tools. Please use these tools only under the direction of Dell Support Staff. I understand the bit about Dell Support Staff, but hoped I could just exit in the normal way (exit>enter). Having said that, I don't know many command prompt entries... It's the full screen, not a command prompt window.Dell XPS 17 win7 x64.
When I press the power button, the led's around the power button will light up and stay on for a few seconds then shut off. The power led on the left side remains lit as does the BT light. If I leave it set for a while, the BT light begins to flash but thats all I get - no diag code or anything. I have already tried removing/disconnecting everything I can think of (HDD, DVD, wireless, modem, BT card, memory, video card even) just to see if I could make it give me a diag code (I know - thats getting desparate). The only one that made it give me a code instead of turning off was removing the memory completely - it gave me the "no memory" code obviously (mute light was solid, vol up and down were flashing steady). But if I put known good memory in it, it doesn't work and if I put its memory in a known good laptop I have no probs. So I went ahead and bought a new motherboard and that didn't fix it (oops). Then I found this site.
Finally i got my xps 1530 yesterday after 3 weeks of waiting. It started perfectely with no problems. when I was running dvd it hanged suddenly, so i rebooted it with dvd still inside. Now problems starts, as soon as i switches power button all media button glows(which is ok) then optical drive make some noise and it hangs there!!! After rebooting 2-3 times by holding power button for 10 sec dvd came out from drive but still it hangs there. so as soon as i reboots it all media button glows then optical drive make some noise and it hangs there
