May 26, 2009I want to dual boot the new Win 7 RC with the default Windows Vista OS already on the M1530.
My issues lie in not being able to make a 5th partition on the HDD for Win7 to go onto. Is there any way to keep my computer intact the it is and get Win7 on the HDD?
Before I deleted the Media Direct Partition but thats a horrible idea... just wondering if it would be possible without keeping another 2.5" HDD around just to have Win 7 sit on.

Ubuntu is available as a "live" CD, which means that you can use it directly from the CD without installing it. But running an operating system from a CD is slow, to see what Ubuntu can do running at full speed, you need to install it to your hard disk.
The ideal situation would be to install Ubuntu on it's own separate hard disk, but most people don't have two hard drives in their computer, and most people are not prepared to give up Windows. Therefore they have to install Ubuntu along-side Windows on the same hard disk in a dual-boot configuration.
Configuring a dual-boot system involves partitioning your hard disk to make space for Ubuntu. When your computer first starts, it reads information on the first sector of the hard drive which tells it where to find the "boot loader". The boot loader is a file with information about the installed operating systems and how to start them.
The boot loader for Windows is a file named "boot.ini". The boot loader for a Linux system (like Ubuntu) is GRUB (Grand Unified Boot Loader). When you install Ubuntu in a dual-boot system, it redirects the system to use GRUB. When you first start your system, GRUB presents a list of options, including starting Ubuntu or starting Windows. So you'll still be able to use your Windows operating system.
To install Ubuntu, start it with the live CD. To use the live CD, your computer's BIOS must be configured to boot from the CD drive. It's probably already configured that way, but if not, when your computer first starts watch for a message telling you which key to press to access the BIOS setup. Most computers use the F2, F1, Esc, or Del key.........

Mar 6, 2009I just bought an aspire 4730 from staples yesterday. It comes with Vista Home Premium 32bit, but I'd like to install vista 64bit on it. The CPU supports it. It has a T3400
I went to acer support here [url] and looked up drivers for the 4730Z/4730ZG but the drivers that are shown are for the aspire 4330.
And the only 64 bit drivers shown are for bluetooth (which the 4730 doesnt have), Intel graphics, and nvidia graphics (which it doesnt have).
Where can i get wifi, motherboard, touchpad drivers for this model if i decide to run vista 64 on it?
should i call acer support and ask them if vista 64 is supported?

Apr 4, 2009I have an Acer Aspire 8930G-7665, OEM Windows Vista x64. I want to set it up to dual boot between Vista and Windows 7, hence the thread title. However, I've had nothing but problems since the beginning.
Forgetting all the issues getting it partitioned, which I've done, I can't get the computer to boot off the DVD. This is strange because the same DVD worked fine on a Dell unit previously.
The first hurdle is that I can't get it to present me an option to boot from CD. The workaround is to change the boot order, which I've done. But now when it accesses the DVD drive to read the DVD there, the computer simply stops responding. There's a flashing cursor in the upper left corner of the screen.

Mar 20, 2009I am picking up an external HD and will make a complete backup of my system with time machine. I will then install windows XP with bootcamp. I am going to format it as FAT32 so I have the ability to transfer files from mac to windows, but will that have an effect on game performance? I am mainly doing this to play black and white 2 and oblivion. I know oblivion will play well but how well will black and white 2 perform?

But grub was in legacy mode and i had problems booting up win8. So, I used boot-repair to try to fix it, but it seems to have gotten worse.

Mar 30, 2008last year i formated my acer 9500 laptop and got a normal home win xp. A couple of days ago i got a hold of my original acer system cds and i decided to restore my system back.
Everything went well until the install finished; I was in windows and the first time i restarted the laptop it didnt boot back in win xp. When its about to start booting windows it stops and all i get is a black screen and a flickering white small line on the top line. I tried reinstalling the original system again and the same thing happends; after the first restart it doesnt want to boot xp.
I started reading forums and found out that if i press alt+f10 it might fix the problem.
It worked, if i press alt f10 before it reaches the black screen it loads into xp. This is the only way i can load it. As i read i got the feeling i might have messed up my MBR.
Im not sure how this all works but i have a hunch that my laptop doenst know where my xp is when its supposed to load it and by pressing alt f10 it somehow temporarly fixes that.
Is there any way to permanently fix this ? Some pple said that if i ran a normal non-acer win xp cd and ran some sort of MBR fix it might solve my problems. Im getting a cd from a friend in a couple of days . Is there any other way i can fix my notebook before then ?
Its not a big deal if i have to press alt f10 everytime i restart but its annoying and i have a hunch ill run into trouble later on.

Dec 13, 2009I was installing Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 6920.
It had Windows Vista installed. I deleted all the partitions including backup (Yes I found out that was stupid), and tried installing Windows 7.
It wouldn install Windows 7 so I went back to Windows Vista. I found my recovery disk and it sort of worked. There where no errors in the setup but when I start my computer it doesnt go to Windows.
It has a black screen with a white _ blinking.

Nov 16, 2009I have a brand new Acer Aspire 5536 Notebook. It came pre-shipped with Vista which I did not want.
So I tried a fresh install of Win7 - formatted drive etc,. Machine takes 5+ mins to boot so I put this down to a compatibility issue and tried XP. However I have the same problem, fresh install with only updates installed and it takes forever to boot (even longer than Win7).
Once booted performance is ok (in Win7 it was near perfect). Any ideas, I am beginning to think it is defective.

May 13, 2010Acer Aspire 7720 I've got. Basically it has both the common boot-up freeze and crackly/distorted sound problems that appear to be common. I understand that the best, albeit riskiest, way to solve these is to flash the bios to a more recent version, which I am prepared to do.
However - the bios upgrades are not available from Acer's own support site, and I don't know where else I can find them, and I have tried.... Is there anyone who can help me locate them? The problems with this laptop are driving me spare, and I really can't afford another, or even another motherboard, just yet.

Nov 4, 2014I have had my acer aspire 6530 since August 2009 now. It never had any major problems. Sadly, after comming back from New Years Eve 2014, I wanted to turn it on, but it just started up for around 4 seconds and then started to reboot again and continued so, until power was plugged out or shut down. There was only a black screen, without BIOS etc.I've searched forums for a solution, all of whom resulted in failure.

Oct 21, 2008I bought an ACER Aspire 7720G Intel Core 2 Duo with Vista SP1 3 weeks ago and have now some problems with my WLan and with booting after sleep. WLan only works when I restart the computer after swiching on the WLan connection either by pressing the WLan button or by activating the connection in "networks and sharing center" (at least it works then, but it's annoying to restart the computer all the time). Since I use WLan at home I get a message while booting the system (Broadcom UNDI PXE.... Client... MAC ADDR:... GUID... DHCP ...not found..blabla). I use a Lan connection at work and here I have no problems yet. My second problem is that my computer really stays asleep after I woke it up from sleep or just if I would not use it some minutes. Oct 8, 2014I have cleaned my Aspire 5750 as it had accumulated dust over last 3years, I stripped down, clean the fan, re-pasted the CPU and put everything back carefully, when I switched it on, the fan spins for a while and turns off, battery gets charged( changing from orange to blue) but only black screen.
I have checked the connections, changed CMOS battery, tried pressing Power button without battery and mains for 20 secs.

Dec 25, 2014I normally powered off my laptop , and then when i try power on again , just a blank screen.Power light is on , no wireless light nor hdd light.I seperated all parts and renewed thermal pastes, tried to short cmos battery , tried without hdd , rams nothing on site worked..At first i wasnt able to flash bios from usb but when i tried flashing it while hdmi cable is in it worked , usb shown activity for 2minThen it powered off and on itself , but still no screen.What would i try else , cmos battery is not replaceable on this model , should i go see repairer to replace this battery?

Nov 4, 2014Just bought an Aspire ES1-511. Not my first Windows 8.1 laptop, but my first with UEIF firmware.
I've been trying to boot Driveimage from CD to do an offline backup, and guess what, it wouldnt recognise the CD as bootable. Fixed that by setting the boot type to "Legacy" in the BIOS and it boots fine.
My problem is that the mouse doesnt work after booting from the CD. Watching the behaviour of the mouse, it powers up when I press the power button, but powers off immediately the POST completes.
If booting Windows from the HD, power to USB is restored as soon as windows loads to the lock screen.

Acer Aspire V5 473P-5602 :: Computer Sometimes Booting Into InsydeH20
Jan 14, 2015I have an Aspire V5 -473P-5602. This is my 2nd unit as the first had issues that couldn't be fixed. Had this replacement for 2 months now and has been working great until recently. I'm hoping this is a minor thing, but I can't seem to find anything online about it.
Basically, sometimes when I turn on the computer it boots into the "insydeh20" screen. Not every time but enough to be annoying to me. The computer is pretty much as is when I got it new. No 3rd party apps, nothing modified etc etc.
Again, except for installing Windows updates nothing on the computer has been changed. Sometimes when I start the computer I hear a clicking sound ( one click) Seems it makes the noise when there is a Microsft update available. Normal?? Never did it before...

Mar 4, 2015when my computer boots up it says "automatic repair" then it says "diagnosing your pc" then it goes from the logo screen to a blue screen that says "automatic repair" it gives you options and plenty of them but none of them work for my notebook computer. im starting to think of just throwing it away because it cannot be repaired and i dont have a warranty on it anymore in order to send it in. even if i did have the warranty it would take months to get back to me. so.....anyways ive tried command prompt to somehow reset it to factory defaults but i do not know how to do that. when i click on refresh your pc it says "there was a problem with refreshing your pc." and then when i click on "reset your pc" says "there was a problem resetting your pc" ....

Nov 10, 2014I have a Acer Aspire E5-511P with bios Insydeh20. On UEFI it does boot USB-drive, even with passwords set. It boots on USB-drive with legacy set, but now my Wifi doesn't work. On older laptops no issues with UEFI, I just had to set boot order. And Wifi works just fine.

Nov 30, 2014I have a 4 year old Aspire 5552-5898 which is having issues ....
First issue is that the Laptop doesn't always boot. When this happens, the power button will light, the fan will spin, the HDD will start, but the screen stays black. Sometimes the PC will restart but the same thing will happen. Usually when this happens, if you hold down the power button, the laptop will power down, only to start up again. The only way to end this cycle is to unplug the machine and pull out the battery. Also of note this seems to happen 100% of the time if the machine is not plugged in, and about 50% of the time when it is.
The next issue occurs when the machine does actually boot. I HAVE to enter the bios because it never holds the date. I thought this could be a CMOS battery issue, but even after replacing that, the problem persists. After entering the date, and saving and exiting, the machine will boot into windows just fine.
