I have a Acer Aspire E5-511P with bios Insydeh20. On UEFI it does boot USB-drive, even with passwords set. It boots on USB-drive with legacy set, but now my Wifi doesn't work. On older laptops no issues with UEFI, I just had to set boot order. And Wifi works just fine.

I can scroll with arrows in other pages but nothing happens on Security page. Password at boot has Disabled but every boot asks for password. Is there a repair for BIOS? Also, the Support page on this site does not recognise my model of Aspire.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a ThinkPad 540p that comes with preloaded Windows 8.1. As I want to dual boot the machine I tried to select the Legacy Boot option in the BIOS/Startup tab, but I can't do anything as the option UEFI/Legacy Book is greyed out and locked in "UEFI Only". Below it there is an option called: -CSM Support that is also greyed out and selected as [No]. (below these options there is a little note with an asterisk saying "Unselectable for Secure Boot").
How can I enable the UEFI/Legacy Boot option again in order to dual boot the computer? I want to be able to boot from USB or from the CD Drive.
Is there any way I can enable UEFI booting? I've found out Windows 7 supports it (with GPT disks as well) and Windows 8 is going to use it. This is also very useful for fast booting and Linux works very well with this (I know you don't support Linux). The main reason is so that I can have more than 4 partitions which is only otherwise possible using Extended partitions which don't play nicely with installing Windows on them. If there is a firmware I can test which may not be fully compatible with BIOS booting, I'm willing to use it as I don't need this feature at all. I also noticed there was a disabled option in the firmware provided which allows you to press F11 to boot into an UEFI shell, is there any way to enable this too?

I'm having getting my USB stick recognized as a bootable device (installing windows 7 onto a system that came with windows 8.1 pre-installed, no optical drive)
System: Acer E 15 (E5-571), BIOS V1.15 (UEFI)
What I've tried:-Disabled Secure Boot
-Created bootable USB stick with Windows 7 iso, via 'Microsoft USB/DVD Download Tool' (on alternate Windows 7 system)
-Created bootable USB stick with Windows 7 iso, via 'Rufus' (on alternate Windows 7 system)
-Windows 8.1 Advanced Restart -> Boot from UEFI USB Device (No UEFI device recognized)
What worked:-Enabling 'Legacy Boot Mode': USB stick was recognized upon boot and loaded Windows Installation. HOWEVER, Windows 7 won't instal to a GPT formatted drive under Legacy Boot Mode. I've read booting in UEFI mode is the only way to get Windows 7 to install onto GPT.
What I don't want to do:-Format the drive, change drive mode to MBR to instal Windows 7. Why? Because then I'd loose the factory installation of Windows 8.1
I am simply trying to boot from a USB or the disc drive in an Aspire E1-510p-2671.
I have set the boot priorities correctly.
I have turned SecureBoot off.
I have turned on the F12 boot menu.
If I turn the machine on and let it do its own thing, it loads Windows 8.
If I tape F12 to go to the boot menu so I can manually select something, my only options are Windows Boot Manager, or
If I have network boot enabled, I get two network boot options.
I cannot change SATA mode off of AHCI, and I cannot change boot mode off of UEFI. I have scoured Google for this issue and it seems loads of people with Acer laptops cannot boot from anything other than their HDD. Changing the UEFI option has fixed it for everyone I have seen able to switch it, but I cannot switch it. What is going on? Why am I being blocked from booting from particular devices/ports? Makes no sense.

I've read the post about how Acer can support on lost or forgotten passwords("there are very few if no options available from the end user side"), but in this case I've not created any password, as I said
For the last 2 days I have been trying to install Windows 7 x64 in UEFI mode on my laptop but it seems entirely impossible. Whatever I do, the boot menu (F12) just won't show any UEFI devices AT ALL, just the normal DVD and/or USB options. Obviously when I try to boot from either normal DVD or USB, Windows 7 setup freezes at the "Starting Windows" screen, I'm pretty sure that's because it is not running the EFI bootloader of the setup.
For the record, I can't just install Windows 7 in Legacy/BIOS mode because it is then impossible to install the Synaptics Touchpad driver under Windows because the Touchpad device is not discovered for whatever reason.

After trying updating that BIOS version to V1.13 successfully, I still don't see the UEFI setting, when I check in a software called HWiNFO64 Program, it says my laptop BIOS is capable of UEFI BIOS. So my main questions are....How can I have UEFI setting in my BIOS? What should I do?

View 4 Replies View Relatedlast year i formated my acer 9500 laptop and got a normal home win xp. A couple of days ago i got a hold of my original acer system cds and i decided to restore my system back.
Everything went well until the install finished; I was in windows and the first time i restarted the laptop it didnt boot back in win xp. When its about to start booting windows it stops and all i get is a black screen and a flickering white small line on the top line. I tried reinstalling the original system again and the same thing happends; after the first restart it doesnt want to boot xp.
I started reading forums and found out that if i press alt+f10 it might fix the problem.
It worked, if i press alt f10 before it reaches the black screen it loads into xp. This is the only way i can load it. As i read i got the feeling i might have messed up my MBR.
Im not sure how this all works but i have a hunch that my laptop doenst know where my xp is when its supposed to load it and by pressing alt f10 it somehow temporarly fixes that.
Is there any way to permanently fix this ? Some pple said that if i ran a normal non-acer win xp cd and ran some sort of MBR fix it might solve my problems. Im getting a cd from a friend in a couple of days . Is there any other way i can fix my notebook before then ?
Its not a big deal if i have to press alt f10 everytime i restart but its annoying and i have a hunch ill run into trouble later on.
I was installing Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 6920.
It had Windows Vista installed. I deleted all the partitions including backup (Yes I found out that was stupid), and tried installing Windows 7.
It wouldn install Windows 7 so I went back to Windows Vista. I found my recovery disk and it sort of worked. There where no errors in the setup but when I start my computer it doesnt go to Windows.
It has a black screen with a white _ blinking.
I have a brand new Acer Aspire 5536 Notebook. It came pre-shipped with Vista which I did not want.
So I tried a fresh install of Win7 - formatted drive etc,. Machine takes 5+ mins to boot so I put this down to a compatibility issue and tried XP. However I have the same problem, fresh install with only updates installed and it takes forever to boot (even longer than Win7).
Once booted performance is ok (in Win7 it was near perfect). Any ideas, I am beginning to think it is defective.
Acer Aspire 7720 I've got. Basically it has both the common boot-up freeze and crackly/distorted sound problems that appear to be common. I understand that the best, albeit riskiest, way to solve these is to flash the bios to a more recent version, which I am prepared to do.
However - the bios upgrades are not available from Acer's own support site, and I don't know where else I can find them, and I have tried.... Is there anyone who can help me locate them? The problems with this laptop are driving me spare, and I really can't afford another, or even another motherboard, just yet.
I have had my acer aspire 6530 since August 2009 now. It never had any major problems. Sadly, after comming back from New Years Eve 2014, I wanted to turn it on, but it just started up for around 4 seconds and then started to reboot again and continued so, until power was plugged out or shut down. I have just purchased a Dell Inspiron 17R Special Edition 7720. It came with a preinstalled Windows 8 (so 64-bit and mandatory UEFI boot). I want to use Linux (more specifically, Archlinux) for work and Windows for games, so dual boot is needed.
I almost completed the Linux installation except for the bootloader: I need to boot Linux from UEFI and didn't manage to do it so far. Here is what I did after I received the PC:
-Disabled Secure Boot; updated BIOS to version A12
-Resized the main Windows partition and created a few partitions for Linux;
-Switched to legacy boot mode and managed to boot a MBR-bootable Arch linux installation USB drive;
-Installed most of the system switched back to UEFI boot mode, Secure Boot off.
At this time I needed to boot the kernel from UEFI for the bootloader installation program to have mandatory access to the EFI environment variables. So I created an UEFI-bootable Archlinux installation USB drive (with a FAT partition) but so far I couldn't manage to successfully boot this drive from UEFI instead of Windows 8.
I think I really tried every single combination, such as:
different USB ports; different boot entries created with F2 boot setup, with different parameters; different orders for the boot entries; hit my boot entries directly within F12 boot menu.
No matter what, in UEFI mode the system always boots the Windows partition.
Also, I could not find any relevant manual or software documentation about the A12 BIOS on the Dell site, did I miss something?
The solution that the user described in this thread to UEFI-boot to a DVD did not work for me with a USB drive.

I bought an ACER Aspire 7720G Intel Core 2 Duo with Vista SP1 3 weeks ago and have now some problems with my WLan and with booting after sleep. WLan only works when I restart the computer after swiching on the WLan connection either by pressing the WLan button or by activating the connection in "networks and sharing center" (at least it works then, but it's annoying to restart the computer all the time). Since I use WLan at home I get a message while booting the system (Broadcom UNDI PXE.... Client... MAC ADDR:... GUID... DHCP ...not found..blabla). I use a Lan connection at work and here I have no problems yet. My second problem is that my computer really stays asleep after I woke it up from sleep or just if I would not use it some minutes. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have cleaned my Aspire 5750 as it had accumulated dust over last 3years, I stripped down, clean the fan, re-pasted the CPU and put everything back carefully, when I switched it on, the fan spins for a while and turns off, battery gets charged( changing from orange to blue) but only black screen.
I have checked the connections, changed CMOS battery, tried pressing Power button without battery and mains for 20 secs.
I normally powered off my laptop , and then when i try power on again , just a blank screen.Power light is on , no wireless light nor hdd light.I seperated all parts and renewed thermal pastes, tried to short cmos battery , tried without hdd , rams nothing on site worked..At first i wasnt able to flash bios from usb but when i tried flashing it while hdmi cable is in it worked , usb shown activity for 2minThen it powered off and on itself , but still no screen.What would i try else , cmos battery is not replaceable on this model , should i go see repairer to replace this battery?

I've been trying to boot Driveimage from CD to do an offline backup, and guess what, it wouldnt recognise the CD as bootable. Fixed that by setting the boot type to "Legacy" in the BIOS and it boots fine.
My problem is that the mouse doesnt work after booting from the CD. Watching the behaviour of the mouse, it powers up when I press the power button, but powers off immediately the POST completes.
If booting Windows from the HD, power to USB is restored as soon as windows loads to the lock screen.
I just received my XPS 15 and plan on dual-booting Win 7 and Ubuntu. I'm trying to install both, but I have no disk drive boot option in UEFI mode, only in legacy mode.
