Apple :: Compared Anti Glare Screens On 15 Inch And 17 Inch
Mar 21, 2010I had a chance to stop by at apple store today, and compared the anti glare screens on both 15 inch and 17 inch models. To my surprise, the 15 inch one was much brighter than 17 inch one. I made sure that both had max brightness settings, and it was clear that 15 inch one was superior. maybe this 17 inch display model was defect? anyone has opposite experience? (btw, I hate seeing myself and losing focus because of reflective glassy screens)

Sep 16, 2009I bought a new Inspiron last week and got it yesterday - I am happy with it except feel a bit annoyed as I though wide screen of 15.6 would be the same as 15.4 normal screen in terms of height, but with a slightly wider screen.
It turns out that actually it is half an inch shorter! And 768 pixels high does not seem enough.
I looked into the 17inch model and for only £25 more I can get the same speced laptop.
Does anyone know how much I might get charged for returning the 15 inch to get the 17 inch (it has been within 21 days) ....

Mar 22, 2009Apple will mail me a new 17 inch MBP unibody(Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66, 4G memory, 320G hard drive) and I found out that I like the 15 inch MBP unibody more (lighter yet the same powerful machine). Is there anyway that I can take it back to apple store and exchange for a 15 inch MBP?

Jul 16, 2009I just got my sisters old macbook pro which is a late 2007 model with the following specs:
15.4 inch LED screen (1440 x 900)
160 gb 5400 rpm HD
2 gb of ram (the standard that it came with) - 667 mhz ddr2 sdram
GPU: nVidia Geforce 8600M GT with 256mb
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 ghz (T7700)
Superdrive: 4x DVD+R DL writes, 8x DVD+/-R read/write, 4x DVD+/-RW writes, 24x CD-R, and 10x CD-RW recording
No applecare left on it
Condition: Very minor wear and tear, but its in excellent condition because its been in a speck plastic case from day one with all the protective casing features below and kept in a neoprene sleeve when on the go
Battery: there are two, one is absolute shot (as in it lasts about 1 minute before i get a low battery warning), the other is brand new and hasnt been opened yet
Accessories: it also came with a brand new (not even opened) battery, a full body speck plastic case, rubber keyboard cover, trackpad film cover, and rubbery/felt like cover for the part below the keyboard and trackpad buttons, oh and a 15 inch neoprene sleeve...my sister is sort of a freak about protecting it............

i no its a desktop replacement and i no people will say look at the size and weight etc but i want feedback on real life use of it and how people find it.

Dell :: M1530 Users How Often Does Your Fan Kick In?
Feb 16, 2009I was wondering how often everyones fan kicks in while your running on your batteries. My fan kicks in every 5 mins runs for 10 secs then stops (on my lap not blocking the vent). I was wondering if this was too often.
I know that it also varies from bios versions but i have a12 and my cpu is running at a cool 37' c while my gpu is running at 60 ish.

Dec 1, 2009Personally I try to run out of a standard user account (instead of an administrator account). It’s the most secure way to go and just plain good form IMO. But I realize that most people do not because windows defaults you into the administrator account. Well I just noticed that the ACEeventLog (an event log created by the Catalyst Control Center that you can find in the Event Viewer) spews out a stream of events/errors when I run out of a standard user acccount. These events/errors stop as soon as I go into my administrator account.
I have a feeling that these events have been causing instability in my system when in the standard user account. If its true that its Dell’s video driver that’s doing this it would be crazy. Dell is an IT company and should know that LOTS of their users will be in standard user accounts (any good admin will do this). Well to make a long story short, I’d like to pose a question: How many of you run out of a standard user account? If I'm in the minority then it might explain the instability issues I’ve been having that few others are not.

May 3, 2009My m4400 seems to like to lock up while switching users. It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does the "Please Wait..." spins away on the screen and it will stay that way forever.
The only way to fix it is to force a reboot by holding down the power button. I'm using Vista Business 64.

Jan 10, 2009I totally wiped out my drive and started anew on my 9300. Most of my hardware drivers were accounted for. But, I'm missing sound, wireless, Fn+X keyboard shortcuts, and (most importantly) my ATI X300, which may as well not exist because Windows sure isn't recognizing it.
I haven't been able to get online with it yet, so I'm not sure how many of these problems I can clear up by searching with 7's troubleshooting tools.
Of course, ATI doesn't have official Vista drivers for the X300. Has anyone worked around Dell's OEM drivers, or have those been fine for you?
I really wanted to make it a nice cable/OTA HD Media Center, but I especially need my video card up and running for that.

Feb 7, 2009Well on my way out to the apple store I decided to run up a few competing monitors and find the 30" Dell with higher specs, HDCP S-IPS panel with 6 inputs (even has display port) for EXACTLY 1599...which is the SAME student discount price for the 30 cinema. Spec wise the Dell is better...in reality, I don't know because I can't go see it.
My question is has anyone connected a macbook or macbook pro to this display?

Apr 18, 2010my 320gb drive that shipped from Dell 2 years ago is dieing out. It will need to be replaced soon. I am curious if any Inspiron 1520 users have upgraded to one of these new 1TB capacity laptop drives. Previously 500gb was the max capacity but now 750gb and 1Tb versions are available. From what I understand the drives must be 2.5 inch to fit in an Inspiron 1520.
Has anyone done this yet ? Which model drive have you installed ? Did you have any issues 'fitting' the drive in ? How is it working out ?

Feb 16, 2009I have this odd problem with my M1530 using windows XP. I currently mainly play WoW. . . I have installed Windows XP on my M1530. . .
So heres what I do.. I open up CPU-Z .. minimize it so that I can see the current speed of my CPU in the task bar. Open WoW in windowed mode and then play so I can see my CPU speed via CPU-Z.
When I do this and Vsync is off it is normal. Speed goes 2.5Ghz @ a 12.5 Multiplier. (using vsync option in wow to control)
When I turn on Vsync instantly the Speed starts going from 2.5Ghz to 1.2Ghz and back to 2.5Ghz ...
but over and over and over, back and forth.... enough to notice while playing ... it creates stutters. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this. So if anyone has a idea please share...

HP/Compaq :: DVDPlay Users
May 24, 2010I recently got a new HP Pavilion Slimline computer and I just got back the HP DVDPlay program because my old computer, which was Compaq, broke down and had to be replaced ASAP. However, my new computer won't let me play any of my Region 1 DVDs on DVDPlay because the computer is locked in region 0 mode. Every time I put in a R1 DVD to play with DVDPlay, it ejects the disk and asks if I want to change regions. I have not used any of my 5 out of 5 limitations yet to switch to Region 1, and it says that DVDPlay is incompatable with my computer.
I also cannot find QuickPlay on my computer, as I think it's gone, was deleted and/or was never put back on. If I bring back QuickPlay, will it let me play Region 1 DVDs on DVDPlay again? What should I do? I hope there's a free way to fix this, as I can't afford to spend any further updates on how to fix my computer to play R1 DVDs again.
