It is not recognized in slot A or B. This was tested with BIOS A08 and A12. This unit was purchased in March 2008.
It's a no go for this model it seems.

Feb 20, 2009find the part number for the internal Bluetooth chip for the HP Touchsmart PC (TX2z)? I would like to purchase that so I don't have to have A) one of my USB ports consumed and B) not have anything hanging off the laptop waiting to be snagged or broken.
Does anyone know of a website with instructions for dismantling this model laptop? Where is the Bluetooth chip at? I was under the assumption that the wireless NIC had the bluetooth built into it - but when I took out a working wifi/BT chip and put it in this laptops slot - it found the wireless portion just fine, but no Bluetooth (even when installing same drivers as the original laptop the card came from).

Apr 17, 2010I have need to use Bluetooth stereo audio functionality (A2DP profile) almost exclusively when I use my laptop.
I had owned a M1330 with the Dell 355 Bluetooth Module for several years without issue. Last November, I decided to upgrade and purchased an M15x (laptop #1) with the Dell 370 Bluetooth module included,running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. Not more than one day out of the box,the 370 module failed while watching a movie. It literally disappeared from device manager and no uninstalling/reinstallation of drivers alleviated the situation. The only way to get the radio to be recognized by the operating system was, and is, to shutdown,reboot into bios,disable the card in bios,reboot into windows,restart,boot into bios,enable the card and then reboot into Windows. The card would then work for awhile but eventually fail again. The module works for short periods of time but if put under an extended load,fails. That and other issues with the M15x caused me to return it.
Contacted Dell and returned the M15x and bought and built a Studio XPS 1645 (laptop #2) to replace it. Received the unit and literally within the 1st few hours,the 370 module failed exactly like the M15x.I thought o.k. a bad card and had tech support send out a new module for the XPS 1645. Received and installed it and the exact same problem happened. Failed when under an extended load. Again called tech support and was then dispatched an onsite tech to replace the entire motherboard and card. No resolution-card failed again. Spoke with a resolution specialist and returned it and again purchased a M15x (laptop #3-really liked the M15x over the XPS 1645)
Received the M15x-Bluetooth failure again. At this point, was considering dropping Dell altogether but thought I'd try the Studio 1558 (laptop #4) with the Bluetooth 365 module, in order to rule out the 370 card, first. Ordered and was delivered on the 5th of April, same exact issue-failure of card under a load. I am returning this defective Studio 1558 and again getting a M15x (laptop #5). I realize that the M15x Bluetooth card will fail again-in fact,am 100% sure it will fail,but have bought a Sony Bluetooth transmitter as a workaround.
What appears to be happening is that the card will shutdown when it gets warm.This is either a Broadcom manufacturing defect or a Dell engineering issue. I know now through personal experience that there is a serious issue with Dell Bluetooth cards.
If this was happening with only one laptop, I'd be ok with it but, this is occuring across multiple laptop platforms, with both Broadcom Bluetooth cards that Dell brands and sells.
This is either an oversight by engineering-maybe they didn't test the card under a heavy load, or Dell is knowingly selling defective equipment.
Dell :: Can't Seem To Reinstall Xp On 1545
Mar 11, 2010after cleaning a malware trojan horse from my system, I need to reinstall my OS (Win. Xp). After repartitioning and reformating will I have to install all the way back to dos and an earlier version of windows and then upgrade to xp? I have dos disks and win3.1, and upgrades disks for 95, 98 and xp? I have a dell inspiron 1545.

I mean I heard people say that lots of laptop die just right after the warranty expires.
My computer is almost turned on all the time(I put the computer to sleep for around 8 hours a day), and I transport it every weekday.

Mar 20, 2009I bought a Inspiron 1545 in the outlet section, got it for $420 with a coupon I got off ebay.
I got the laptop and I absolutely love it! But there is a problem, the graphics card driver keeps crashing, this is an annoying problem and I think it might progressively get worse, so I'm worried.
My options so far that I can think of are:
Do a complete OS reinstall (can I use my dell cdkey to reinstall vista?)
Send it in to get fixed, if that's the case, what kind of fixing will they do?

Dell says it will arive on April 6th. Does Dell usually take this long to deliver?
Both have Dual Core Pentiums. Can they be upgraded to Core 2 Duo later? Are the CPU's soldered on the main board?
Ram is limited to four gigabytes, even though the laptop uses a 64-bit CPU. Is this something that might be fixed in a future BIOS upgrade?
Is there any way to upgrade the onboard graphics? I found an ExpressCard chasis that has PCI express slots, but it costs over $700. I could build a PC for less than that. Do I have any other options?

Dec 22, 2008I just looked at the pictures and specs of the new Inspiron 1525 replacement, 1545, and I couldn't believe what I have read. No HDMI port, no firewire port, only 3 USB ports, no modem, no eSATA. Also, it is 15.6" 16:9 screen, which is fine, if they offer higher than 1366x768. It is more like the 13" Inspiron than the old 1525 to me. I think Dell is going to re-align Inspiron as a cheap line like the HP Presario line. Dell Studio will compete with HP Pavilion.

Dell :: Better Tap Speed For 1545's Alps Pad?
Jun 6, 2009i've searched around a bit and see i'm not the only one who hates this touchpad (just traded "up" from an 8 year old machine whose pad worked flawlessly), but no-one's mentioned my gripe yet:
the tap speed cannot be adjusted high enough to keep up with the taps when tapping the scrollbar equal to using the button. i use my laptop for newsreading so accurate line-by-line tap-scrolling is something i've come to take for granted, but on this machine
i have to use the button or deal with 2-moves-to-every-5-taps scrolling - unacceptable! especially when machines from 10 years ago are care-free. having this pad on my beautiful new Dell is like getting a new Ferrari with a loose steering wheel
Dell Inspiron 1545 :: Fan Won't Stop
Jan 25, 2015My fan on the inspiron 1545 will not stop running. The laptop is quite hot. The battery from Dell died and replaced with a third party battery and adapter which have not been working well either. Battery will not charge so it is currently attached to power source at all times with the battery in the laptop.

Jan 18, 2015I got an old laptop (dell inspiron 1545). I bought it charger and installed Windows 7. then I discovered that he had a strange problem. As if the keyboard is not calibrated. I press a button and he thinks it's another key ... I thought it might be a hardware problem but when I plugged in a USB keyboard had the same problem and even when I uploaded the "virtual keyboard " on screen the problem continued ... I went to the site of DELL and the diagnosis tool indicated the computer is fine (their detection software glitch found in DVD-ROM but it really has nothing to do with it) I still tried to delete the drivers of the keyboard from the computer and reinstall but the problem remains you might know calibration software keyboard?

Dell :: Inspiron 1545 With Bright Screen
Apr 3, 2009I've noticed that the screen doesn't seem to be evenly lit. For example when I set the desktop background to black, it looks pretty black at the top of the screen, but as I look further down towards the bottom it turns almost medium gray/blue-ish.
I've tried all brightness, contrast and gamma settings with no luck.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and is it a reason for sending back the laptop? Or is this something "you get" for buying a lower-end laptop like the 1545?
Dell :: Spare Parts For Inspiron 1545?
Aug 11, 2009I was interested in getting another hard drive caddy for a 1545 but looking on Dell's website by model # they do not even list the 1545 per se.
They have a choice for "15" which I assume will include anything across the board for the 15 "family" models so I looked in there but no parts like this.
I tried ebay and googling around, found several places that sell spare Dell parts, even called & spoke to one but it seems to me that (a) Dell doesn't sell a part like this separately, and (b) places that do sell these kinds of parts are salvaging them from old/dead PCs and since the 1545 is a fairly new model spare parts haven't really surfaced for it yet.
Am curious if folks here know of any decent places to find this kind of thing though, since I certainly could be overlooking something!

Apr 22, 2009I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1545. When I type, it will open windows (such as a find menu, replace menu, or even a new document) or reformat my text (hanging indents, etc.) out of the blue.
It acts as if the control key is being pressed, but I am very careful not to hit it. At first we thought it was a sticky key, but replacing the keyboard did not fix the problem.
We reinstalled all the drivers, ran diagnostics, etc., but none of it did any good. Dell support said they had never heard of this problem. Nothing they suggested helped. Finally we had them send us a replacement.
The second computer arrived yesteday and it does the exact same thing. When I am typing in Microsoft Word, Excel or even Notepad, it erases text (sometimes the entire document), opens random windows, etc.
What is going on? I can't believe that three keyboards in a row would be faulty, but the problem does not happen when I use a wireless keyboard. It has been less than a month since we ordered the computer originally. Is there anything that can be done or should I just return it and look elsewhere?
Dell :: Unresponsive Touchpad On Inspiron 1545
May 22, 2009I have a brand new Dell Insprion 1545. Everything has been good on it, and then all the sudden today the touchpad became totally unresponsive.
The pointer doesn't move AT ALL when the touchpad is touched. Luckily, I have a USB mouse, but having to use it kind of takes away the portability.
but it's entirely possible that I made some sort of stupid error or changed some setting to make the touchpad unresponsive.

May 20, 2009Does anyone own a dell with these wallpapers still installed? I have reformatted my drive and have sadly lost them, I think they are the green city one, the boombox/stero one and the pink one.
