Dell :: Bluetooth 365/370 Modules Failing-multiple Platform,multiple Bluetooth Versions
Apr 17, 2010
I have need to use Bluetooth stereo audio functionality (A2DP profile) almost exclusively when I use my laptop.
I had owned a M1330 with the Dell 355 Bluetooth Module for several years without issue. Last November, I decided to upgrade and purchased an M15x (laptop #1) with the Dell 370 Bluetooth module included, running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. Not more than one day out of the box,the 370 module failed while watching a movie. It literally disappeared from device manager and no uninstalling/reinstallation of drivers alleviated the situation. The only way to get the radio to be recognized by the operating system was, and is, to shutdown, reboot into bios, disable the card in bios, reboot into windows, restart, boot into bios, enable the card and then reboot into Windows. The card would then work for awhile but eventually fail again. The module works for short periods of time but if put under an extended load, fails. That and other issues with the M15x caused me to return it.
Contacted Dell and returned the M15x and bought and built a Studio XPS 1645 (laptop #2) to replace it. Received the unit and literally within the 1st few hours, the 370 module failed exactly like the M15x.I thought o.k. a bad card and had tech support send out a new module for the XPS 1645. Received and installed it and the exact same problem happened. Failed when under an extended load. Again called tech support and was then dispatched an onsite tech to replace the entire motherboard and card. No resolution-card failed again. Spoke with a resolution specialist and returned it and again purchased a M15x (laptop #3-really liked the M15x over the XPS 1645)
Received the M15x-Bluetooth failure again. At this point, was considering dropping Dell altogether but thought I'd try the Studio 1558 (laptop #4) with the Bluetooth 365 module, in order to rule out the 370 card, first. Ordered and was delivered on the 5th of April, same exact issue-failure of card under a load. I am returning this defective Studio 1558 and again getting a M15x (laptop #5). I realize that the M15x Bluetooth card will fail again-in fact,am 100% sure it will fail, but have bought a Sony Bluetooth transmitter as a workaround.
What appears to be happening is that the card will shutdown when it gets warm. This is either a Broadcom manufacturing defect or a Dell engineering issue. I know now through personal experience that there is a serious issue with Dell Bluetooth cards.
If this was happening with only one laptop, I'd be ok with it but, this is occuring across multiple laptop platforms, with both Broadcom Bluetooth cards that Dell brands and sells.
This is either an oversight by engineering-maybe they didn't test the card under a heavy load, or Dell is knowingly selling defective equipment.
find the part number for the internal Bluetooth chip for the HP Touchsmart PC (TX2z)? I would like to purchase that so I don't have to have A) one of my USB ports consumed and B) not have anything hanging off the laptop waiting to be snagged or broken.
Does anyone know of a website with instructions for dismantling this model laptop? Where is the Bluetooth chip at? I was under the assumption that the wireless NIC had the bluetooth built into it - but when I took out a working wifi/BT chip and put it in this laptops slot - it found the wireless portion just fine, but no Bluetooth (even when installing same drivers as the original laptop the card came from).
i got windows 8 with my PC and i really hate it, can i keep multiple OS on it like Windows 7 and default windows 8. i like windows 7 better  HP Pavilion 15-e084ca Model: E1X77UAR  will it ruin my warranty if i install windows 7?
So, doing some research it seems that the Matrox dual or triple head2go is the pricey solution to running more than 2 external monitors. Are there other solutions to running 2 or more external monitors without shutting down the laptop screen?
I was thinking hdmi to one screen then 2 usb to dvi to the two other screens, but don't know if this will shut off the screen on my laptop.
They are mostly identical, but with two exceptions.
1. One has a but faster processor than the other. 2. One used shared memory for the video (Intel Driver) and the other has an nVidia Quadro video card with respective driver.
I would like to be able to swap the hard disks between the two computer.
My question is, can I install both sets of drivers and assume the respective computer will know what to do?
using a mac as my 'daily driver' and have noticed an ODD difference between mac and win.
In windows if you want to run 1, 2, 5 or 10+ copies of the same app... just launch it again. Apps can restrict their instance count if they want but in general you can run as many copies of something as you want.
On the mac... the 'launch' icon becomes the 'goto' icon after the app has been launched... so there doesnt seem to be a way of easily launching a second copy of the same program.
So is there a way to do this? when im doing web work on windows ive been known to have 30+ notepad windows open... dont see a way to do this on the mac. Am i missing something?
I dont follow MBP refreshes, but since I am considering it for my next notebook purchase, I wanted to know when is next MBP refresh arriving and if apple does just one refresh of its notebooks each year or more than one? Anything out yet what will the refresh bring?
I have an external display and I want to be able to shut down the laptop display when I'm using the external one. How do I do this? Is there a setting that can automaticly switch off laptop display when an external display is connected? Â Can I close down my laptop's display while I'm working with an external display, keyboard and mouse? Â On my Nvidia Control Panel I only have 3 options: Adjust image setings with preview, Manage 3D setings and Set PsysX Configuration. Shouldn't I have a lot more options given by the Nvidia driver?
I am trying to send my video signal from my laptop to my analog tv. I have a Inspiron 1520 laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video card.
I hard wired the laptop and TV with yellow composite cable with an s-video adaptor (composite on tv and s-video on laptop).
When I try to setup for multiple displays I choose CLONE, but there is only a multiple selection option in the pulldown for LAPTOP DISPLAY AND HDTV.Can I not display image on my analog tv?
Have an issue with the keyboard on the HP Envy 17. There are three keys that, for whatever reason, stopped working. Â The "o" key produces zero, left key, home, period, 'o', and 'p'. Â The 'L' key produces three, period, page down, six, 'l', and semi colen. Â The '.' key produces '2', '5', end, '4', period, and forward slash. Â This happens every time the key is pressed. If held, they produce the above, then the last key repeatedly. Â All other keys perform as expected. If a seperate USB keyboard is used, it works fine. Â I've tried updating and rolling back the BIOS, as well as 'resetting' by removing all power for a few minutes. Have also uninstalled the driver, then installed the latest. Â I also purchased a replacement keyboard from HP (part #720244-001) and installed.
I have an HP Envy TC 17, and I am trying to use multiple logins to the same page using SimplePass. How can add another account to an already existing account?
recently purchased an HP ENVY x360 - 15-u011dx Touch Laptop. Try to set up two external monitors using an HDMI splitter. I can "extend" the desktop, but both screens are showing the same image, which isn't what I want. Can i set up two external monitors with this laptop using a splitter (this was what I was told would work when I purchased the unit along with the two monitors.) Â Previous laptops had HDMI and VGA ports allowing for two monitors. Â This laptop (as well as most newer ones) no longer have a VGA port.
I know that the T430 equiped with nVidia graphics is capable of supporting more than 2 monitors. Â What about T430 equipped with the HD4000 graphics Card, using the MiniDock Series 3? Â I have connected three monitors (Dock-DVI, Dock-VGA, ThinkPad-MiniDisplayPort) but, so far, I can extend my desktop over two of these three monitors only.
I just bougth the T440 and I have two main problems related to sleep mode, which both seems to happend randomly. The most common problem is that when I close the lid (the action suppose to activate sleep mode), the computer seems to freeze during the time it is going to sleep : The red light is still on as when the computer is in 'normal mode', but there is no display and the keyboard seems unresponsive. I have no choice but to restart the computer.  Sometimes the computer seems to enter in sleep mode correctly (the red light slowly goes on and off, which according to the manual indicates that the computer is in sleep mode), but when I open the lid, the screen remains black and I can see nothing but the mouse. I have no choice but to restart the computer.  It also happened once that the above problem (the second one) kept occuring even after multiple restart of the computer. The only way I could solve it was by using 'windows safe mode'. As the problems occur randomly, I am unable to say if they were already there when I received the computer, or if they started to happen after the few windows updates/software installation I did.
I want to buy a T431S (20AA0012MH) and I want it to work with a dock: The ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 type 4338 (looks like this one: [URL] .....)  First question; fits the laptop the dock? Second question; can i use two 1600x900 resolution screens connected with DVI to that dock with this laptop?
I have one monitor connected through the HDMI interface and I would like to have another one attached as well. Can I use the VGA port (or the other flat one -- I do not know what it is called) and have the monitors work in concert? Â (Windows Vista, Pavillion dv7 laptop)
I have an Inspiron 1525 with windows 7. I use system mechanic 11.7 for PC clean up. Every time I started the computer I was getting multiple hard drive errors and had to run deep clean followed by scan check. I thought I had a faulty hard drive so I bought a new one and completely reloaded my OS.
is the sony FW35V(customizable) on the sony style uk site a 1920x1080 a dual lamp LCD? it says 16.4" H1080 WXGA++ (1920 x 1080) Widescreen X-black LCD screen with built-in "Motion Eye" Digital Camera, but is it a 1920x1080 dual lamp, multiple lamp(how many?) orr single lamp? make sure its the fw35v not the fw35x. the fw35v is the one that costs £60 to upgrade the screen. the fw35x says HD1080 (1920x1080) X-black LCD with multiple lamp, which im guessing is a dual lamp LCD right? also is the Dual lamp worth it for £60? what does it do? give brighter?, sharper?, more deep and rich colours? or something else?
I bought at DELL OUTLET a M6400 without the Bluetooth Module, I will buy it separate from DELL, do you know if the Bluetooth antenas will be Pre-Wired in the notebook ?,
actually I am buying the DELL 410 Bluetooth + UWB card, meaning I need the Pre-Wiring for Bluetooth and UWB ?
I noticed a few other threads around the internet about this issue, but couldnt find a definitive answer on how to get it fixed, so I thought I would try it here.
The problem is that when I go into standby and wake from it, my bluetooth icon disappears and bluetooth doesnt work.
I have a Dell Studio XPS 13 running Vista 64 with the Dell bluetooth 370 minicard. Ive tried using the generic windows bluetooth drivers as well as Dell's drivers.
Nothing appears in device manager as well. I have to manually go into bluetooth settings, disable the device, then re-enable it.
My Bluetooth keyboard goes to sleep after a period of idle and it takes 15 seconds for the Acer Aspire 1810T to wake up and notice the Bluetooth keypresses.
However, I found out my Bluetooth keyboard works reliably when I have a second Bluetooth device connected and active at the time (such as either a headset or bluetooth tethering to a cellphone as modem), the computer doesn't have a 15 second lag in noticing the Bluetooth keyboard again - the keyboard works almost right away even after being unused for sometime.
So that means the culprit is in the power management on the Acer Bluetooth module. Is there a way to force the Bluetooth module to never go to sleep? Any checkbox somewhere, a register setting? Even going as far to purchase a different Bluetooth driver? Or any other option? Sometimes the sleep is useful, but it definitely isn't useful with the Bluetooth keyboard. This problem does not happen if I use an external Bluetooth dongle.
(With BatteryBar Pro, I notice that power consumption falls suddenly whenever the Bluetooth module goes to sleep when the keyboard goes idle for more than 30 seconds, and at this point, it has difficulty 'waking up' when I start typing on the Bluetooth keyboard. But the problem also still happens when the laptop is plugged in!)
I have finally tested the Acer Empowering Technology software on my Acer D150.
Great news, the software works to enable/disable the Bluetooth module on the netbook without physically pressing the button. This is great for people like me that do not have the button on top to push the button inside. There are two software needed for people to get this running on the D150. First is the required “Acer Empowering Framework” software and the second is the “Acer ePower Management.” Once both software are installed on the system, the setting to enable/disable the Bluetooth module is in the ePower Management.
Power profiles within windows will probably be reset to default, so those would have to be readjusted if a user changed them. I am actually running Windows Vista on my Acer D150 with the Acer Empowering Technology software for Vista. I am not 100% sure if the software will also work on XP, but from the notebookreview forums, I believe it should work just as fine (but more options on other Empowering Technology software).
(in XP, the driver also works, but need XP edition, not vista editon).
I have experienced a strane problem with bluetooth. Generally it works fine, but sometimes when I connect some some kind of device (Nokia 6300 phone) and after some time turn off bluetooth(the switch on the right side) without turning of bluetooth in the phone, the whole BT module in Vista just hangs. The BT icon is available but no BT adapter is found (the system does not recognize the Dell Bluetooth Module) and it does not help to turn on and off for few times. But the worst is the fact, that after the BT maodule hangs i cannot turn off or suspend the computer. It just hangs at the Shutting down screen forever the only thing I can do is to turn it off by holding power button for longer time... When I first disconnet all BT devices and then turn off the BT module everything's OK and no other problems occur. Is this a driver or hardware issue ?
I have XPS M1530 with Vista SP1 (all updates applyed)
First of all i apologize for my bad english... i'm german . i'm new to this forum and got problems with my Dell bluetooth 370 card. i somehow managed to software disable my bluetooth card before completely formatting my HDD. now after installing windows 7 i'm desperately trying to install the bluetooth drivers. no success. it always says "Press fn+f2 to aktivate bluetooth" but that won't work. the hardware switch is ON and i tried a few other things like resetting the bios to factory settings, removing bluetoothcard and installing windows 7 without it (reinstalled it afterwards). i also tried this file http://support.euro.dell.com/support...&fileid=213714 (R159805) but it won't work for my bluetoothcard saying "no capable devices found".
All of the sudden, bluetooth stopped working on my laptop.
I installed the Dell driver when I first got the computer and everything was going fine. I was listening to music through some blue-tooth headphones this morning, when suddenly they unpaired.
Now, the BT light is on on the front of the computer, but the icon disappeared from the task bar. I tried reinstalling the driver, but got hung up when it asked to turn on blue-tooth with wireless button. The button doesn't do anything for turning on/off bluetooth that I can tell.
So now I'm stuck.
In Device Manager, there is no bluetooth 370 card. But I do have errors in the USB category and the "other devices" category.
