I have one monitor connected through the HDMI interface and I would like to have another one attached as well. Can I use the VGA port (or the other flat one -- I do not know what it is called) and have the monitors work in concert?

recently purchased an HP ENVY x360 - 15-u011dx Touch Laptop. Try to set up two external monitors using an HDMI splitter. I can "extend" the desktop, but both screens are showing the same image, which isn't what I want. Can i set up two external monitors with this laptop using a splitter (this was what I was told would work when I purchased the unit along with the two monitors.) Previous laptops had HDMI and VGA ports allowing for two monitors. This laptop (as well as most newer ones) no longer have a VGA port.

I have a latitude E6430s running windows 7. I have it docked using a dell docking station, and have 2 dell monitors connected using dvi. With this configuration if I have the 2 monitors running I can't get any picture on the laptop screen. A couple nights ago, my operating system (Ubuntu Linux 10.04) failed to load and because I can't get video feed to my external monitor until the video drivers on Ubuntu loads, I am unable to run Ubuntu's repair feature and the beginning of boot.
Is there a way I can get my laptop to use my external monitor at all times, even at the BIOS screen? Is there a setting in BIOS for this?

I am using an external 24 in (1920 x 1200 res.) monitor through VGA port.
The notebook has additional HDMI and DisplayPort.
I'd like to know if it is possible to connect a second external monitor. It would be 17 in (1280 x 1024) used as extended desktop, not mirrored. The monitor has DVI port as well as VGA.

I recently bought an Aspire V7 582PG, put in a new SSD, and then installed Windows 8. The laptop works fine, except it can't detect external monitors (in Control Panel, I get "Didn't detect another display". I have tried with 2 monitors (different models) that are known to work, through both HDMI and VGA.
I thought it might be a driver issue. Device Manager > "Display adapters" shows "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" and "NVidia GEForce GT 750M". Both drivers are up to date. "Monitors" shows "Generic PnP monitor", which is also up to date.
I then went to [URL] ...... to download the driver for my model. The only one that looked relevant was:

But when I unzip and run it, the installer window closes within a few seconds; I think it crashes rather than installing properly.
Tried (and sometimes successful) to connect HDTV to laptop, Inspiron 5720. Now laptop screen does not display (goes black) without an external monitor physically attached. Tried using Projects and clicking on single laptop display, but if I disconnect the external monitor, the laptop screen just goes black. Not very portable if I have to lug around a second display.

After (I've lost count) x number restarts/restores it's a wonder the 8200 seems to be back to where I/we started earlier today

1. I would still like to add an external 1600x1200 monitor to the 8200 notebook. The Dell people say it's a no go--maybe with a lower res monitor? The notebook is used by Marilyn (spouse) who does two things: writes a few notes and edits digital photos.
2. As for myself I'd like to exchange the 19" 1901FT for a bit larger (say 23-24" monitor with maybe a bit higher res (for photo editing work.) I have a HP Pavilion dv4t-4200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC model # A1M02AV and it has a VGA port, one that looks like a phone/broadband cable port, and one that looks like a USB port but indented on either side at the bottom. Can I even connect an external monitor? How do I find out if I have more than 1 video card? Besides the usual USB/headphone ports, I don't have any other ports. I am trying to connect a Dell external montitor via the VGA port with a VGA cable. The monitor has power but my notebook does not recognize/detect it. However, when I first plugged it in, my notebook display shrank into a square (vs the whole screen) so it recognized something...but nothing happened on the external monitor.
I tried detecting it via my display settings, but I accidentally changed some dispaly setting so that the home desktop only shows on monitor 1, but unselected my actual notebook display or something or changed it to be monitor 2 (even though monitor 1 does not exist), so when I plug the cable in to my notebook, all of a sudden my desktop goes away and it's a just a blank background screen - and I cannot access the computer display settings or anything.... when the cable is unplugged this setting looks normal, so I can't figure out how to fix it.
I discovered that my display wasn't turning on yesterday when I tried turning on my notebook. Luckily I was able to plug it into an external monitor with a VGA cable and I have a monitor in my office, but I really cannot be restricted to my living room or office to use my laptop.

I have two Latitude D830 laptops.
They are mostly identical, but with two exceptions.
1. One has a but faster processor than the other.
2. One used shared memory for the video (Intel Driver) and the other has an nVidia Quadro video card with respective driver.
I would like to be able to swap the hard disks between the two computer.
My question is, can I install both sets of drivers and assume the respective computer will know what to do?
