About 99% of the times, that I try to recover my Dell Vostro 1510 from suspend it doesnt work. I hit the power button to resume and the power light and WiFi light stays lit but the screen doesnt turn on and it stays like this. I have to hold down the power button to turn it off and turn it back on. How can I resolve this?

I have the latest BIOS from Dell.
i've had this issue a little more frequently lately, both in vista and ubuntu and i think it's a hardware issue. after putting the computer to sleep (vista) or suspend (ubuntu), upon wake up, the display does not come on, keyboard and mouse are unresponsive....
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have installed XP on my Latitude E6500. Baseline is the ALPS Touchpad sucks, it is unprecise, slow and sometimes hangs. The worst I have ever experienced. I even had it replaced by Dell hoping to receive a newer Hardware revision but just got the same pos again so nothing changed.
What really annoys me is that when I wakeup my PC from Standby or Hibernation the Touchpad does not respond for about 20 of seconds so I have to wait.
Of course I have the latest driver 7.2.101.216 from Dell installed.
My brand new XPS15 9530 has been having the same problem since I received it. Randomly (but usually after several hours of being closed) the notebook does not wake up when I open the lid.
I have removed the Intel wifi and bluetooth drivers, but the issue remains.
I have reset the power profile and the issue remains
I have e4300 with Win7 RTM. For couple months, I've been experiencing slow wakeup (30sec-1min) from sleep and recently I found it is caused by BTHUSB error during the wakeup process.
The bluetooth function works fine after wakeup, but the wakeup takes too long.. Anyone saw this problem as well?

I have an Acer 5100, AMD Turion 64x2, with Windows Vista (OEM, not an upgrade (downgrade)), and Vista SP1 is installed.
I still kick myself for buying this, but too late to cry over that. Lesson learned: Get the HP, Compaq, Dell, or Lenovo. Nobody's perfect, of course, but not everybody stinks and sucks and has a pathetic support site without live chat the way Acer does.
From day 1, it has had surprise shutdowns when not in use (as in, overnight or during periods of not being used), about once every week or two. Sometimes, it's not a total shutdown, but it just doesn't recover from suspend (The suspend/recover issue appears to be quite a common problem, lots of similar sounding posts out there on various forums: The fan spins, lights are on, jiggling the mouse (laser mouse) lights up the mouse as if the computer's responding, but the screen stays black). There's nothing obvious in Event Viewer.
In other words, it hasn't shut down on me while using it, but after leaving it, coming back the next day, it will about once every week or two either have shut down, or won't come out of suspend.
The final question, is the BIOS update on the Acer website says "Windows XP", and there isn't one for Vista.
It's definitely virus free, spyware free, rootkit free. FYI, also up to date on patches, and Vista SP1.
Sorry for the seemingly multiple-problem post, but I think they might all be related from this intriguing comment in the BIOS update release notes:
"1. SLOVE UMA S4 OVERNIGHT BLACKSCREEN"
I'm pretty sure they mean "Solve", since some other comments for other fixes say "Solve". Not knowing what they mean, but certainly suffering from something that could be called an overnight blackscreen, I'm tempted to try the BIOS update.
QUESTIONS...
1. There's a DOS and Windows subfolder in the zip file for the BIOS update. Safe to run the BIOS update from a command window?
2. the shutdown or failing to come out of sleep?
I bought a Vostro 1500. It has been fine and I got XP instead of Vista. 2GB of RAM.
It boots up fine with quick Dell screen, black XP start up screen with thermometer line at bottom, then light blue XP screen then Vostro.
Before the destop icons show up next after Vostro and I am all set. Now it stops at Vostro.
I can get to programs using task manager file open and browse. Not very convenient.
im not sure if i want a graphic card in it, as it would just eat battery life and i would get nothing much out of it, since i have no plans in gaming with it.
i will be, however massively watching movies, and streaming movies (99.9% of the web, not dvd player) would that need a dedicated graphic card?
i would also like to know which are the best in terms of :
price, screen quality, build quality, weight, which ones have the same keyboard,current known issues, and are they any rumors or known news of any updates of any of these models in the next 6 months worth waiting for?
ive also bought a m1330 a few months back, but since i had some issues with school, i had to return it and delay my purchase to this year.
the laptop was getting extremely hot, like not even possible to put on my lap kind-of hot. is that issue fixed?

For those who own the V13. Do you miss having HDMI? How's the build quality on the V13? And with the Vostro 3300 out now, the Vostro 3300 would be a better buy, no?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to upgrade my cheap consumer-grade laptop with something more robust. My uses are mostly software development as well as photography (Photoshop, etc.). I'm not interested in using this new machine for gaming (that would be a very secondary use).
I'm looking for a 17" laptop, so am considering both the Vostro 3700 and Precision M6500. I understand the system differences between these two machines, as well as the cost differences. Ideally, I'd like whatever I buy to last 3+ years without falling too far behind in technology, but on the other hand the Precision is very expensive (budgets suck).
Thus, would the new Vostro 3700, maxed out on configuration, be a worthwhile investment or, since I'm going to spend the money, should I go the extra mile and get the Precision? What would I miss (other than the graphics card mostly) if I go Vostro?
I've been agonizing over this for a good month or so and realize making a decision like this in a vacuum isn't going to happen, so let me know your thoughts.
I just received my first laptop, a Vostro 1510 from Dell. The specs are in my sig.
I have a few newbie questions:
1) What is the best way to store a battery, and at what percentage should I store it? Or can I leave it in while using the AC Adapter.
2) I can take out the battery, and run the laptop via the AC adapter right?

I always keep my laptop plugged in so I don't use the battery. It's primary function is, in case there's a power interruption. This morning my Vostro 1500 (going on two years) started flashing the battery LED on the control panel on the palm rest.
It says 100% full...Charging !
It's been like that for 1.5 hours so I took it out. While in the machine I ran HWMon and it should a fully charged battery and the power output was equal across the board..
