View 7 Repliesi have recently purchased a vostro 5460 which comes with windows 8 and not windows 8 pro which appears to be a requirement if i wish to downgrade, as tabled here: [URL] .....
but if i do wish to downgrade, do i have any other options?
I am constantly losing wifi connectivity with this new laptop or having slowed down connectivity with 2 out of 5 bars even from 20 feet away; the pages i try to load constantly jump to loading pages previously loaded, etc. I have an inspiron desktop at home with windows 7 i have used for the past three years which have given me no such problems, so i am finding all this interruptions extremely frustrating.
I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my Vostro 1500 and had no issues. Well, one small one, there was one unknown device (Base system device) in the device manager until I downloaded a driver for the Ricoh R5C833 memory card reader and installed it.
I also downloaded a driver from nVidia for my 8600M video card .....
Does anybody have Windows 7 running on the Vostro 1000.?
If yes, what are your experiences?
Did everything work after install ?
Do I need to install the 32 bits or the 64 bits on the Vostro 1000
Anyone up and running without any problems? I installed W7 (64bit) on my 1700 and I have 1 device it can't find. (Base System Device).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Build 7100 and everything installed fine. I even have audio drivers and the volume icon on the systray. However, There is no sound coming out of my speakers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe have purchased dell vostro 2420 laptops bundled with ubunto. We dont have official windows 7 OS to install on it but we have windows xp with SP3 official copy but dell doesnot support or provide the drivers for windows xp. How to find the drivers for windows xp.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've bought a Vostro 5470 couple days ago. After installing Windows 8.1 64-bit and all drivers listed in 5470 driver's page, everything is working fine except the Nvidia GT 740M. I tried many versions of driver including those from Geforce official site but none of them worked. When I tried to open the Nvidia control panel, it said something like "You are not currently using a display attached to an Nvidia GPU"
Only Intel HD Graphic is currently working now.
Right everyone, after much searching and screaming and tearing my hair out, ive managed to get the dell 5530 wwan to work on a vostro v13 with windows 7 32-bit.
this guide is mostly for those who have downloaded countless number of drivers, and been told error 23000 - this is not for your device .........
I've installed Windows 7 on my 1700, and it's all installed fine. I have the latest video drivers from nVidia, and all the others from Dell.
The only thing that I'm not sure about is that under Device Manager for the actual monitor (on the laptop) it just shows as generic PnP monitor. Should it not have a specific drivers for best results?
Last night my audio went dead, and I didn't change or install anything.
I've run the diagnostics tool and confirmed that the audio is indeed working, both the internal and the headphone jack.
I'm running Windows 7 x64 and the drivers I'm using are from Dell's driver site, version 6.10.0 6224 dated 03/11/2009
I've tried older drivers but no luck.
Update utility doesn't seem to support that "-writehdrfile" parameter.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy laptop does not seem to be loading windows. I cannot sign on or access anything on my laptop. I have done a diagnostic test and the following errors come up:
Error code 0146
Msg error code 2000-0146
Msg hard drive 0 - self test log contains previous errors.
I am able to sign on to windows and my documents.
I have a Vostro 1320 and my touchpad has decided to stop working in Windows 7 (particularly RC x64).
The touchpad works fine in safe mode but does not work nine times out of ten when booting regularly in Windows..
In Device Manager, the touchpad has an exclamation point and the error "This device cannot start. Code 10"...
I tried re-installing the driver provided by Dell and also the reference driver directly from the Synaptics website and neither fixed the issue..............
I have a Vostro 1700 with Vista installed. When I got it I didn't want the Dell Mediadirect softare on there so reinstalled with those partitions removed and just Vista on there.
I also tried installing Windows XP to see how that worked on it; XP installed fine and worked well, but I had the problem that if I touched the Media Direct button it could knacker up the whole XP installation. Obviously,
I couldn't resist trying, and low and behold, when I pressed the button my XP installation was corrupted! (my original thread on it was here - New Vostro 1700 laptop! Why are there four partitions, and can I get rid of them?!)
I've really not liked Vista, and do want to get Windows 7 on the Vostro, but what I want to make sure before I pay out for Windows 7 is that I'm not going to have the same problem with that damn Media Direct button .....
I'm super happy with win 7 x64 on the vostro 1400, except for the terrible battery life. Off power, it's less than 40 mintues even on the 'power saver' mode. I'd get 3 hours plus out of my 9 cell battery on XP...
any suggestion as to how I go about improving this problem? anybody else experiencing this?
I've looked for some answer here, but not found too much except for how to get RM clock to work on x64 so far.
I have purchased a new laptop (Vostro 3560) with Windows 8 64 Bit. The fingerprint reader stops working, after reinstalling the touchpad and fingerprint reader sometimes the reader starts working again (i.e its detected and I can login to windows by swiping my finger). It says the fingerprint reader is not found (on the Windows Login Screen) and the icon in the DP Fingerprint Software has an x in a red circle.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi recently installed windows 8 pro on my dell vostro 3550 laptop. i was facing with overheating and battery drain issues. i read in dell forums that dell resolved battery drain issue in bios update and now my current bios version is A10. but problem is i saw in other dell thread that A11 has some flaw in it and not advisable to update and that too previously my bios update failed and dell replaced my Motherboard. so how can i overcome overheating and battery drain issues ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a question regarding my Dell Vostro 1000's battery.
To start off, I did the recharge and discharge method and after that, when I disconnected the AC-Power, it only shows the "Total Battery Charge 100%" but the primary, it doesn't say anything. Plus, when it was unplugged, it stays at 100%. Few minutes later, it will drop to 7% and the Battery LED will flash orange to tell me that the battery is low.
And my Battery health is good, but why is Windows 7 not detecting the battery charge properly??
Snap-shot: [URL] ....
And there is no calibration tool in the BIOS?
I've got a Dell Vostro 3360 laptop, with a 500gb HDD + 32gb SSD (hybrid) and a pre-installed Windows 8.1. My problem is the following: I've tried to re-install the OS (windows 7 x64) but the installer can't find any drives. I've googled the problem and found this topic: [URL] .....
It says:
1. Ensure Sata mode is set to RAID in BIOS or in some systems Intel Smart Response Technology
2. Go to RAID BIOS(Use Ctrl+I) and disable accelerate option for SSD (Only if HDDs are not detected while OSRI)
My raid setting is ISRT, but I can't enter the raid bios, cause CTRL+ I does nothing. I also tried CTRL + R and G but neither worked. How to reinstall the OS?
I bought a Vostro 1500. It has been fine and I got XP instead of Vista. 2GB of RAM.
It boots up fine with quick Dell screen, black XP start up screen with thermometer line at bottom, then light blue XP screen then Vostro.
Before the destop icons show up next after Vostro and I am all set. Now it stops at Vostro.
I can get to programs using task manager file open and browse. Not very convenient.
im not sure if i want a graphic card in it, as it would just eat battery life and i would get nothing much out of it, since i have no plans in gaming with it.
i will be, however massively watching movies, and streaming movies (99.9% of the web, not dvd player) would that need a dedicated graphic card?
i would also like to know which are the best in terms of :
price, screen quality, build quality, weight, which ones have the same keyboard, current known issues, and are they any rumors or known news of any updates of any of these models in the next 6 months worth waiting for?
ive also bought a m1330 a few months back, but since i had some issues with school, i had to return it and delay my purchase to this year.
the laptop was getting extremely hot, like not even possible to put on my lap kind-of hot. is that issue fixed?
I have bought Dell Vostro 5460 come with Windows 8, when i bought. it don't have preinstall DVD but it have Windows 8 sticker on my laptop, and at first i not create a system image and system repair disk, and my friend installed windows 7 on my machine and format all hard disk. my question it is possible that i want to make laptop like first time that have Windows 8.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm using windows 8.1 and my Touchpad doesn't recognize Elantech driver.
I already installed driver from Dell drivers website.
The problem is all my key fn function work but the enable/disable Touchpad doesn't work.
And I don't see any option to customize my Touchpad.
Only left click, right click, moving pointer are working, but scrolling doesn't work.
I think the driver isn't installed or maybe it isn't compatible with windows 8.1.
How to remove Windows 8 & restore my dell Windows Vista home premium from the same hard drive that hasn't been partitioned. My computer is a Dell Vostro 1500
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 8 on my Vostro 3560 and even installing the new driver for Win8 video card AMD HD 7670 Randeon the note presents several bugs this board, such as:* apps made for Win8 (with technology underground) not roam well with AMD board, where they are fighting or simply leave the slow note.* The computer now does not go into an idle state automatically after the time set in the Power Options, due to various errors that prevent this driver please note the suspended state.* The fingerprint reader no longer works at the log on screen or lock Windows 8. The reader only works when I'm on the desktop or on the start screen, also due to a problem with the video card drivers because it is causing several incompatiblidades system. All these mistakes I vii event log windows.Have I contacted AMD who said that Dell is to update the driver for the notebook has two cards (intel and AMD) and fits Dell make changes and corrections. And then Dell??
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a dell vostro 3350. On windows 7 the sd card and usb 2/esata port work as expected.
On windows 8 they dont. If i install the latest drivers, they work until i reboot the laptop after which they are back to not working.
Is this laptop just not Win8 compatible?
Because of a virus, I recently had to reinstall Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I have gotten everything else working except the fingerprint reader.I have installed the Validity Fingerprint Reader driver from the Dell Support site. The fingerprint reader shows up in the Device Manager. However, the Biometric Devices applet doesn't appear in the Control Panel.
I tried letting Windows update detect the fingerprint reader. It installed a driver for a Synaptics device. This was enough to get the Biometric Devices applet to appear in the Control Panel. However, when I tried to configure the fingerprint reader, I got an error saying no fingerprint management software was installed. I have seen lots of posts online directing me to validityinc.com for drivers or the DigitalPersona software, but Validity Inc. seems to have gone out of business. The DigitalPersona software is available on the Dell Support site for my service tag.
I have even tried installing the Windows 8 Validity Sensor Driver for my laptop, but though it successfully installs, it produces the same results.
I know the Vostro 3300 just came out.
For those who own the V13. Do you miss having HDMI? How's the build quality on the V13? And with the Vostro 3300 out now, the Vostro 3300 would be a better buy, no?
Any differences that I should take note of?
