Dell Vostro 3550 :: Fingerprint Reader - Biometric Devices Applet Not In Control Panel - Windows 7
Jan 3, 2015
Because of a virus, I recently had to reinstall Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I have gotten everything else working except the fingerprint reader.I have installed the Validity Fingerprint Reader driver from the Dell Support site. The fingerprint reader shows up in the Device Manager. However, the Biometric Devices applet doesn't appear in the Control Panel.
I tried letting Windows update detect the fingerprint reader. It installed a driver for a Synaptics device. This was enough to get the Biometric Devices applet to appear in the Control Panel. However, when I tried to configure the fingerprint reader, I got an error saying no fingerprint management software was installed. I have seen lots of posts online directing me to validityinc.com for drivers or the DigitalPersona software, but Validity Inc. seems to have gone out of business. The DigitalPersona software is available on the Dell Support site for my service tag.
I have even tried installing the Windows 8 Validity Sensor Driver for my laptop, but though it successfully installs, it produces the same results.
New 2nd generation vostro 3550 laptop fingerprint reader driver software is available in dell online but there is no application software for fingerprint reader without any application how will I use it?
I have purchased a new laptop (Vostro 3560) with Windows 8 64 Bit. The fingerprint reader stops working, after reinstalling the touchpad and fingerprint reader sometimes the reader starts working again (i.e its detected and I can login to windows by swiping my finger). It says the fingerprint reader is not found (on the Windows Login Screen) and the icon in the DP Fingerprint Software has an x in a red circle.
I have recently purchased Vostro 3550 with Finger Print reader. After i updating all drivers and checked in dell diagnostic also. Nothing happen to no response for my reader. I purchased 07-05-02012.It haven't worked while i purchased itself and i updated all drivers
Problem :2
ST MICRO SCREEN DETECTION SENSOR ISN'T COMPATIBLE WITH THIS VERSION OF WINDOWS - ? Wat i need to do for this???????????
I have checked through installing Free fall data protection. it shows nothing.
I installed Windows 8 on my Vostro 3560 and even installing the new driver for Win8 video card AMD HD 7670 Randeon the note presents several bugs this board, such as:* apps made for Win8 (with technology underground) not roam well with AMD board, where they are fighting or simply leave the slow note.* The computer now does not go into an idle state automatically after the time set in the Power Options, due to various errors that prevent this driver please note the suspended state.* The fingerprint reader no longer works at the log on screen or lock Windows 8. The reader only works when I'm on the desktop or on the start screen, also due to a problem with the video card drivers because it is causing several incompatiblidades system. All these mistakes I vii event log windows.Have I contacted AMD who said that Dell is to update the driver for the notebook has two cards (intel and AMD) and fits Dell make changes and corrections. And then Dell??
I just bought a Dell Vostro 3400, and i am having a nightmare with this Fingerprint Reader. I tried installing the Digital Persona Fingerprint Reader [URL] .... and it worked, but the program kept telling me that there was no Fingerprint reader detected. Then i tried to uninstall and reinstall the program, but when I did, the program said that a previous version was not found to update, so it couldn't be installed. I don't have a recovery CD either.
i recently installed windows 8 pro on my dell vostro 3550 laptop. i was facing with overheating and battery drain issues. i read in dell forums that dell resolved battery drain issue in bios update and now my current bios version is A10. but problem is i saw in other dell thread that A11 has some flaw in it and not advisable to update and that too previously my bios update failed and dell replaced my Motherboard. so how can i overcome overheating and battery drain issues ?
I have installed Windows 8 on a HP dv6-6096 nr which I purchased in may 2011. I did an upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium. Every time, I hightlight control panel, the machine reverts back to the desktop. How do I fix this?
I thave updated my video drivers. I an't tell waht other devices are not usiable in Windows 8.
I figured that I can go a clean install and all should work but I don't know if I can re-install under Windows 8.
Here is an update:The HP dvd6-6096nr used NON-STANDARD function which folks at HP, Microsoft and Microcenter have been made aware of. So the ways to get into Safe mode, Shift F8 is the easy way. For me, that doesn’t work. Using Windows key +x, lets me run msconfig.Using msconfig and booting into safe mode, action center tells me that I need to install 3 drivers: (Intel Bluetooth wireless driver, HP power management and Intel wireless display). Those were installed.I rebooted the machine, Control panel still crashes.Rebooted into safe mode, action center still shows that I need to install these 3 drivers.Since Microsoft makes it nearly impossible to boot windows to update drivers, that is where I am at. My choice is (1) install Windows 8 (not upgrade) or forget about Windows 8. The problem is (1) will Windows 8 re-activate and if other licensed software will re-install?
I reinstalled windows on my laptop, and I go to re enroll my fingerprint with the fingerprint reader. The Fingerprint reader suite says I have no fingers enrolled, but when I go to enroll my finger again, it says the fingerprint is already enrolled. But I can't find it anywhere. I'm assuming the saved fingerprints are saved to the device itself, but I can't seem to import the saved prints.
I'm having trouble with the fingerprint reader on my M4400. I have done a clean install of Windows 7 RC x64, and installed the relevant drivers, but the only software that recognizes the fingerprint reader is Embassy Wave bundled by Dell (which seems a bit, well, clunky ).
I have tried UPEK's Windows 7 software, which installs fine, but it cannot find the fingerprint reader. The same happens with DigitalPersona too; it installs perfectly but can't find the device. The fingerprint reader is listed in the control panel (it shows as '5880', which is the combined Broadcom fingerprint reader, smart card reader etc.), so I'm not sure why nothing but Dell's software can 'see' it.
I just upgraded to Windows 8.1, and now the fingerprint reader doesn't work anymore.
I know that Win 8.1 has built-in biometrics support, so I tried uninstalling HP SimplePass, without success. I updated the drivers to the latest I found (4.5.123.0), I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers, I started the "Windows Biometrics" service, I basically tried everything I could think of.
Right now, the Fingerprint reader drivers are installed correctly and it's detected by the system, but in Control Panel, the "Biometrics" category is not there. Also, in PC Settings => Accounts => SIgn-on, the Fingerprint option is disabled.
Symptom: when trying to enroll a fingerprint, I get the message: 'Use a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprint,' the sensor light turns from green to blinking orange (3 times), then back to green. Same happens when when trying to enroll from Windows PC Setting/ Sign-in Options/ Fingerprint (Add).
What I tried: uninstalling ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software and Driver (to include selecting 'Delete the driver software for this device'), rebooting, using Lenovo System Update to re-install ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, rebooting. Have also tried to manually install previous versions of the Fingerprint Software to no avail.
I had this similar problem in the past, since upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, but the steps above usually resolved it.
I have a new W510 but I cannot get the fingerprint reader working for Windows logon. I have the Lenovo fingerprint software installed. It can enroll my fingerprint with ease, which also shows that the reader works. I have turned on the option "use fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into windows". When I restart Windows, I see a fingerprint logon option, but it still defaults to CTRL+ALT+DELETE. When I pick the fingerprint option and scan my fingerprint, the lght blinks twice and nothing happens. I know from my old W510 that I should be seeing a Lenovo Fingerprint icon on the logon screen, but I just cannot get that to display. What have I missed?
The virtual agent was no support - it gives me a setting that doesn't exist, tells me to reboot, tells me that the first time I log in I will need both fingerprint and password, but afterwards it only needs fingerprint.
I wanted to do a clean install on my new laptop and this is the only thing I can't seem to get working so far. The Validity driver from the HP website is installed but, there's no security software listed for this device. I tried Protecttools and it said it wasn't supported on this device, I also tried Simple Pass and it wouldn't start without crashing. I'm not even sure I'm installing the correct software.
I'm not able to use my finger print reader/simple pass now that I've downloaded windows 8.1 Been reading some of the other questions and difficulties people are having but haven't been able to still get it to work.
I have an HP Envy M6 1125dx 00179-60246-20486-AA0EM 64-bit Intel Core i5 Running Windows 8.1
I have a dell vostro 3550. I Just got my mother board replaced a few days back... But now the system starts shows vostro logo.. Then starts again... Never reaching the os selection menu..( I have a dual boot so I need to select the os to boot in)....
I have a brand new T540P with a Validity fingerprint reader.
Rougly 80% of the time, the Fingerprint reader is unresponsive at the windows login screen after waking the computer from sleep. It works 100% of the time when booting from an off position, however. Once logged in, it also works 100% of the time. The issue only arises when logging into windows.
Things I have tried
-uninstalling/installing device in device manager and finger print manager pro software -setting fingerprints through both fingerprint manager pro software (lenovo) OR through the built in windows fingerprint control panel options -disabling "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" in device manager.
I should note as well that I have another T540P that I ordered as a replacement. Both models experience the same issue.
Is this a platform wide issue affecting all T540P models?
I have a T440p with Windows 7 Pro. Except on rare occasions, I am unable to log into Windows with my first swipe across the fingerprint reader. The green light is on when I do the first swipe and it immediately goes off and stays off for around 15 seconds, during which time another swipe does nothing. Then the green light will return and a second finger swipe will log me on.
It's made using the fingerprint reader for login impractical, because it's faster to just go to the password screen and log in that way.

I have a Vostro 3550 and it is not even a year old. Last night I was typing an email and all of a sudden the screen turned black and was all static. This morning I was having difficulty turning it on but saw the boot screen and hit Enter to Boot normally. Then it went static again. I have tried turning it on with and without the power cord plugged in. I no longer can get it to even load to the boot screen.
