Dell Vostro 3350 :: SD Card Reader And USB2 / Esata Port Not Working On Windows 8

Apr 25, 2013

I have a dell vostro 3350. On windows 7 the sd card and usb 2/esata port work as expected.

On windows 8 they dont. If i install the latest drivers, they work until i reboot the laptop after which they are back to not working.

Is this laptop just not Win8 compatible?

Dell Vostro 3350 :: Chrome Browser Stopped Working

Oct 22, 2014

I have the Dell Vostro 3350 for 3 years now, and about two month ago My Google Chrome browser stoped working (the Gui is stuck whenever I'm oppening it)

I've tried any SW solution possible, including re-install it, install a lite version with no add-on's, and format my laptop, and nothing worked.

lately I've learned that two other friends of mine that have the same model (Vostro 3350) have the exact same problem with Chrome,

so now I believe that this maybe an hardware problem.

Dell :: [E6500][esata][RAID Port Multiplier] Raid 1 Enclosure Not Regnosized Using The Esata Port

Mar 5, 2009

Here's my story and, let's say, my analysis:

I bought a generic 2 HD sata2 RAID1 enclosure based on the chipset Silicon Image SteelVine 5744. It can be used in USB or eSATA2. This embedded chipset (named SiL5744) is known (understand "claimed") to auto-handle Sata I/II and host sata2 controllers that not support the port multiplier feature. The HD are two Samsung F1 1To. There's no jumper to rollback to SATA 1.5Go on them, you can only do it by flashing the HD's bios, however we don't need to do it as I wrote just before, the SiL5744 supports SATA 3Go natively.

The enclosure works pretty well with USB, but *not* in eSATA : the E6500 freezes/hangs just after the POST step (a potential driver issue with the installed vista 64bits is not the reason then). As soon has I disconnect the eSATA cable, the system recovers and continues as normal.

What I've tried/done so far :

Both E6500's BIOS SATA mode AHCI and IRRT mode were tested,
Intel Matrix driver and software was updated to the latest 8.7.0.1007 version (AHCI and IRRT),
The SiL5744 chip was upgraded to its latest firmware as well (in case of...)

In order to verify the esata cable, the HDs and the enclosure itself, I succeed to :

- Use the enclosure's RAID1 feature when using the USB connection, I could partition, format, and read/write on the logical volume
- directly connect *one* HD (Samsung F1 1To) to the E6500's esata port -(I have a sata2esata cable), Vista installed it and I was able to use it as normal, even the hotswap feature seemed to work fine (I unkindly removed it). I could so test both HD individually this way... On the enclosure hardware side, everything looks fine then.

An IMPORTANT thing : The E6500's ICH8/9-M sata host controller seems to support the Port Multiplier feature *ONLY* on sata port 0 -as a bubble message from the Intel Matrix soft sometimes shows up-, but this is exactly where the internal HD is plugged on the motherboard I found nowhere you can change the internal sata port ID (switch,bios,ect...). I think this is the key of the problem that seems to be a dumb port conflict, because the esata port is in fact the port sata 4 (the DVDRW drive is sata 1, dock's esata is 5 for instance). If somebody knows how to swap the sata port ID, I think I won't be toasted !

Dell :: M6400 ESATA Port Not Working On Replacement Motherboard

Nov 25, 2009

I used to use my eSATA port every day with a few different devices. I started to have an overheating problem, so Dell replaced the motherboard and graphics card yesterday.

Of course, that means I lost all my BIOS settings. I'm pretty sure I have them back to where they should be (RAID mode on the SATA controller, eSATA port enabled), yet the eSATA port doesn't see a damned thing connected to it.

Every other piece of hardware is exactly the same as it was before. Any ideas as to what I might be missing?

Dell Vostro 3350 :: Won't Power Up

Apr 14, 2013

I decided to change the original 750gb hdd for a crucial 128gb SSD. I looked up a video on YouTube on how to change the Hdd on the 3550, so that I knew exactly what I was doing. I was able to change the hdd without issue, however I was unable to install W7 64bit off my Usb stick, installation said that it was unable to access the correct drivers. I decided to put the old hdd back in to put the laptop in its original state. However when I tried to boot up as normal, I got a PXE media error and I couldn't boot W7 off the original Hdd. I tried all sorts of boot combinations but no success.

I managed to boot successfully via network boot, by pressing f12on startup and selecting network as opposed to hdd. I decided to backup my hdd to an external hdd, while I had access to it. I left the laptop, plugged in, to backup. When I returned a few hours later the laptop was powered off and no longer powers up. I've tried charging (no lights lit up), changed the battery, checked charger was working etc. But laptop still won't respond or show any signs of power.

The cards work fine when I use a USB card reader, just not the built in one.I checked the driver in device manager - at least the one I believe is the correct one - Realtec PCIE Card Reader.

HP Envy 15t-j100 :: Card Reader Not Working?

Oct 2, 2014

I have an HP ENVY 15t-j100 Quad Edition running Windows 7. Its card reader is not working. When I insert an SD card, I get a message that the device is not installed properly. Windows prompts me to update the driver, so I have let it, but it cannot find the driver. In the Device Manager, with the SD card inserted, it shows under "Other devices" a "Disk drive" with a yellow "!" symbol.  The device status reads:

"The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver."

I have tried to update the driver from there, but again no driver is reported to be found.

By the way, the Device Manager says that the Realtek PCIE CardReader is working properly. I have updated its driver using sp66065.exe, but there is no difference. The card reader is still not reading, nor is there a drive letter showing up for the inserted card.

If I disable the Realtek PCIE CardReader, then the "Other devices," "Disk drive" in the Device Manager goes away. But the card reader is not functioning all the same. If I enable the card reader, the same error returns with a yellow '!"  under the "Other devices," "Disk drive" in the Device Manager,

HP Folio 13-1020us :: SD Card Reader Suddenly Stopped Working?

Nov 23, 2014

For about a year, I've had an SDXC card in the built-in card reader of my Folio 13-1020us.

It's been working fine until a couple days ago. Then something I was downloading to it failed to complete, which is how I noticed that it had stopped working. Now, it doesn't appear in drives under My Computer, and it doesn't appear in Device Manager.

In an older HP laptop, I can at least see the card's drive letter and the name I gave it, so I think the card itself must be fine. But I can't see anything at all when I place it in the Folio.

I have a feeling the reader itself has just failed. I'm out of warranty by just a few months. Do I have to extend my warranty and send it in to get it fixed? I do not want to use an external reader because I use the card as extra storage space.

Operating system: Windows 7
SD card: PNY brand, 64GB SDXC

Acer :: Esata Port On 8930G

I connected the cable, turned hard drive on and nothing is happening. The hard drive connects via usb fine but that will be much slower to backup 500GB worth of data. Does anyone know if I need to do anything special to get it to work with esata or should it work straight away?

Not sure if the cable is esata 1 or 2 but it should work with either shouldnt it?

Now for the stupid part of the question, once its used for a USB device will I have any trouble using it for an eSATA device later on? Basically wanted to make sure using it as one doesn't lock it into being one specific type of port permanently.
