Dell :: Win7 Upgrade Kit
Dec 31, 2009Does the Win7 upgrade kit support a fresh install or just upgrading the current Vista installation?
Does anyone know if I can activate a Win7 64 bit using a Win7 32 bit activation key?

I currently have 3gb of Corsair Ram(2gb+1gb) on a M1330, 2.2ghz, 120gb hdd, with Win 7.
I know Vista only recognized 3.2gb RAM with video ram/system resources eating some ram. Does Win 7 recognize the full 4gb?
I am trying to maximize performance for photo editing and would like to know if I should bother upping the memory to 4gb. I heard putting in same RAM chips(2gbx2gb) will allow dual-channel performance. Is the speed difference using dual-channel noticeable?
I upgraded several Dell D830 laptops to Win7. Afterwards the DVD drives do not read CD/DVD's. If I click on the DVD icon in My Computer, it ejects the drive and says to 'insert media'.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking at upgrading the memory in my Vosto 1500. It currently has 667mhz memory in it (came with the laptop). My processor is a T7100, a 800mhz processor. If I get 800mhz memory, will it recognize it and run it at 800mhz?
Also, while I am here, has anyone upgraded to a SSD drive in place of the stock HDD? Will the bios accept it? Laptop was purchased in 2007, and I am on the original A01 bios
I have the new Win7 disks from MSDN (pro and ultimate). Tried multiple times yesterday to upgrade my Z690 from Vista. Uninstalled all of the conflicting drivers/programs, it goes all the way through the install process, gets to the point where it copies over the old files, but then abruptly restarts and uses the Rollback program to get me into Vista again.
I tried 4 times, same result each time. Anyone have an idea if there's something I can do get this machine upgraded?
A clean install is not an option, too many programs I can't find the disks to...
When i was on vista i used orev's activation backup and restore whenever i made a clean vista install. Now when i got the windows 7 upgrade from HP i have no idea how to do the same. For now it's activated with the win7 home premium key on the upgrade dvd. Does anyone have any idea how to preactivate win7 hp?
As i understand 3 things are necessary for preactivation:
1. SLIC 2.1 bios with key - Got it
2. HP OEM certificate for win7 - Missing
3. HP OEM-SLP key for win7 home premium - Missing i think
I guess i need the hp oem certificate and hp oem-slp key for win7 homepremium - can i contact HP for it or can a good sole on this forum email me a copy?
I am very new to Laptops, Drivers ect.
I am wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 and I was woundering what things do I need to download AFTER I get it installed?
I know empowering technology will not be there anymore, How can i get it back?
And for My finger reader? How can I get those back?
I recently took a step up to win7 64bit on my Acer Aspire 7520-5311 ...
Everything went smooth and I downloaded the new Nvidia drivers from nvidia's website, however I have 3 devices that are unknown
1. Base system device, location pci bus 1, device 4, function 2
2. Base system device, location pci bus 1, device 4, function 3
Lastly I have an unknown device, can anyone assist in identifing which drivers I will need for these devices?
I have a Sony VGN-AR38G.
I have upgraded the HDD and RAM 2 months ago after a hardisk failure.
Current specs as follows:
Intel Core2 CPU T7400@2.16GHz
Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 GT
2x2G RAM
2x320G HDD
Optical Drive: Mata BD-MLT UJ-210S ATA Device
In device manager it says the device is working properly.
Current driver version is 6.0.6001.18000, which should be the latest (Ver1.06)
The laptop was purchased in June 2007. Broke Dec 2009 due to hardisk failure. Then I upgraded some hardwares (HDD & RAM), reinstalled Vista Home Premium (Burnt disk) then upgraded to Win7 (Retail disk).
Then 2 weeks ago, I left it on battery only, thought it would go into hybernation when the battery drains, however I had a nasty system loss, basically all I had was the Vaio logo and BIOS info, not even F8. So had to reinstall the system. Did pretty much the same thing as before, except I did the firmware upgrade of the optical drive, which I don't recall doing the last time. Then, I'm stuck with the Win7 upgrade.
I need to make a BIOS upgrade on my Sleekbook 14-b017cl. The laptop is downgraded to win7, originally win8 was installed. Is it safe to run the update in win7?
The available updates are officially for win8 only (see: [URL] ...)
I had replaced mobo on my dead SZ 4 series (don't ask why) and couldn't stop there since I was in the move thus consequently contemplated about possible upgrades. For now I settled for fan, WLAN card and CPU upgrade. If it works well, I might install SSD also.
1.Fan Modification
As you all proud SZ owners know, fan is very noisy on this machines so it made me think if there is any possible modification to reduce the noise. Since the BIOS is controlling it there is not much to do on the RPM part (in win at least, but more on that later) I settled for a fan and fan casing swap from SZ 4 to SZ 7 series.
In the photos you can see that fans, fan casings and heat-sinks are of different design. Besides design differences, voltage and the amperage are the same, 5V-300mA.
Only way was to install the fan and the casing of the SZ 7 heat-sink to my old one as one of the heat-sinks bolt bushings is off for a few millimeters.
There has to be some care exercised when prying off the fan casing, some heating was required from the aluminium side on three pins were casing is attached.
Not to be simple, the difference is also in the inlet hole. One on the SZ 7 heat-sink is bigger and off centre compared to SZ 4s. Had to do some filing there, to match it to the size of the new fan. Fan of SZ7 is not bigger, it is due to different design of the fan eye and its volutes...................
I received my Precision M4400 with Win 7 Pro x64 pre-installed, and using it for audio recording and playing everything works great. However, since Win7x64 drivers do not exist for some of my audio devices,
I decided to put in a new HD (same as the original, only larger) double-booting XPx86 and Win7x64. So I installed XP on one partition of the new HD and Win7x64 from the CD that shipped with the M4400. Big problem...
Neither XPx86 nor the re-installed Win7x64 are able to deliver anything but crackles and pops and noise only slightly resembling music. Forget about recording...
I noticed there was no Notebook System Software download for Win7 for my E6400 and just wanted to confirm that that is correct?
According to this post from October:

Also, can I forgo the Control Point software and just use the OS Hardware manager? Any of the varied DCP downloads absolutely required?
i signed up at ieee.org as a student and got the win7 free download (after paying $15 for the annual membership).
NOW... i have the 1537 w.fingerprint scanner. wondering if there's any issues with any drivers out there for hardware i should be aware of.
who else has switched to Win7? worth it over vista? heard it is but i don't want to lose my saved info and fingerprint login ability.
I tried to install the 64-bit version on Win7 64-bit just now, but got this error:

I've upgraded my precision m2400 about 2 weeks ago and noticed that the battery life has gone down significantly even when adjusting the power options / screen lighting / keyboard backlight and wifi.
Wasn't windows 7 suppose to improve battery life on laptops? The battery life has gone down by about an hour with variation on different power option settings. Anyone know how to fix this or anyone else having this problem? I'm using it with a 9cell battery.
I want to put a different driver on the laptop for my 8600m gt card. I'm running Win7 x64.
I want overclocking ability, which is easy enough to find, but I'd also like to retain functions like sleep.
I just noticed that my dvdrw is not working.
In My Computer it shows: BD-ROM
In Device Manager it shows: UNSBGH QBWHEN8X2305 (Drive Name)
The Actual Drive: TS-U633A
Has anyone experienced this problem? I try updating the firmware from U633A-U633C but it wont update and detect the "actual drive".
I have 8gb RAM on my laptop and so far no problems installing all the programs and drivers. Win7 did detect the drivers needed and accurately targeted Dell's website for the appropriate drivers... card reader and such. Programs loaded so far:
Office 2007, Acrobat Reader 8, Adobe CS4 (both 32/64), Panorama Factory, Roxio Creator 2010 Pro, Slingbox, Quicktime. Will load more but it took me almost all day to do these ones. Future programs includes Canon's Zoom Browser and other web browsers
Every now and then my PC goes through the bootup process but as Win7 (x64) starts loading, it says Please Wait...
and then the screen starts flashing continuously... wont take me to the login screen.
only way Dell reckons to resolve it, is to go in Safe mode and go back a Restore point.
Just received my XPS 14 with Windows 8 pre-installed. I would like to use Windows 7 on the laptop instead. I was able to install Windows 7 just fine but I am not able to get SRT working on there. I have the Intel Rapid Storage Technology application installed but the Accelerate button is not showing up for me.
When installed Windows 7 with SRT enabled in the BIOS and loaded the driver so that both drives (mSATA and SATA) are seen. I installed the OS on the non-SSD SATA drive and left the mSATA alone. After installing Windows 7, I loaded the drivers and application software for RST but the Accelerate button still doesn't show up. Both drives shows up in RST application. how to get the Accelerate button to show up so that I may use the mSATA SSD drive for caching?
This one has a newer CCC and display driver than the last. Download is up at: ftp://ftp.dell.com/video/R258233.exe
Display driver is only slightly newer. 8.683.2.1 is the version number. Originally released for "Studio Laptop - 1458" with Radeon 5430 and 5450 graphics. Supports:

Wondering if anyone has some recommendations on what drivers to use with this configuration. I have the Dell 5530 Broadband modem and the broadcom swipe sensor without drivers.
I can't seem to get the Vista x64 versions to install.
Is dell control point recommended or not? I have the beta versions of the nVidia drivers and they seem OK. Are there any other Dell drivers that are recommended that work in Win7 x64 or should I just wait for Dell to put some up on the support site?
Has anyone been able to get i8kfan installed on a M6400 with win7 64 bit?..

After I have been installed the webcam driver and its webcam central,
windows 7 didn't start anymore and get "blue screen" with this error code:
0xc000000e
and it say that one of the devices is inaccessible.
So I assume it's due to the webcam installation.
The only solution was to reinstall Windows7.
How can I install this webcam driver so windows will could be start,
and won't crash at the boot process.
So I installed win7 on my gf's laptop, ultimate 64 bit, wiping her vista home premium partition.

I recently installed win7 on my new studio 17 (1737) and since then the drive doesn't seem to recognise the discs as blu-rays, with powerDVD bringing up "there is a disc with an unsupported format in drive (F".
It worked fine beforehand, with whatever version of powerDVD that came pre-loaded, but after it won't play on any version.
It was a clean install of win7 (x64), and I've downloaded the updated firmware for the drive from the dell site (it's the CA10N, think it's LG-ish).....
