Every now and then my PC goes through the bootup process but as Win7 (x64) starts loading, it says Please Wait...
and then the screen starts flashing continuously... wont take me to the login screen.
only way Dell reckons to resolve it, is to go in Safe mode and go back a Restore point.
I have pavilion dv7, so far I had no problem. Now, when I login it logs in but then instead of showing me the home screen, it goes into blank black screen. It has just started to happen and I hope there is another way to make it work without rebooting the whole system.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy HP Envy dv6 recently did one of its updates and after that it restarted. Now when I turn my computer on it has the Hp logo, the login and after I log in nothing. There's just a black screen with a glow and the cursor. I know it's working because I can hear noises and the fan going but I can't see my desktop. But if I use the simple pass finger identification it will take me to the we page I saved on the designated finger. That's the only way I can get to the internet. I can't use anything else because I can't see my desktop. I can do ctrl alt del and that pops up but it doesn't do any good. I did the unplug everything, take out the battery, plug in AC adapter but not the battery , hold power button for 15 seconds then put the AC adapter but not the battery and turn on thing and nothing changed. I tried multiple restarts and shutdowns and nothing changed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a problem today on my HP Envy notebook Product number = F7P58PA. It has working fine till yesterday night. It has windows 8.1 on it, and may be some updates are installed on it during the night (I am not too sure about it).
THe issue is that when I login to windows by providing my pin the start up screen does not show up. its simply blank with cursor showing only. ALT-CTRL DEL gives the task manager and I can run internet explorer through task manager run command but start up screen remains blank.
I have done battery, memory etc tests and nothing has resolved the issue.

I then returned to find that my laptop had not started up properly, and had instead come up with a black screen displaying "Checking disk for errors. This might take over an hour." View 5 Replies View RelatedI purchased a U430 ideapad 3 days ago. Set up the laptop without problems. Ran Windows Update and updated 8.1 with 40+ updates. All was fine - Until I powered off and later restarted.
The Lenovo loading screen was followed by windows user login. Entered password for user and the normal desktop appeared. Immediately a green window appeared almost filling the screen, with 'Please wait' in the centre and 'Cancel' bottom right.
Cancel does nothing and the Please Wait screen never goes - effectively locking the machine. The screen can't be resized, or closed, and the Desktop is only visible at the very top and bottom, but cannot be selected.
Pressing Ctrl-Alt-del and selecting Task Manager doesn't identify what has loaded to cause the problem and trying to switch applications shows the desktop and task manager but won't allow these to be selected, as the green screen just overlays everything.
I read online posts and did a factory reset, disabled the face-recognition software and repeated the Windows Update. All seemed fine, but next day the Green - Please wait - screen returned.
The only way I've found to regain access is to run the battery down to <10%. Getting a low battery warning at start up appears to stop the Green - please wait - screen loading and allows normal access to the Windows desktop.The laptop then functions normally until it's powered off and restarted and the Please Wait screen returns.

View 1 Replies View RelatedDue to what I thought were issues with SP1, I uninstalled it. Finding it not to be the case and that the uninstall left my machine somewhat "stuttery", I set it up for a system restore and went to bed. About eight hours later, I checked it and it was still restoring! I figured it had locked up (it's done this before) so I powered it off. Dumb move, I know.
Now, though, I try to start windows but it the screen gets stuck on black before it loads up the glowing windows logo. It will do the loading animation but that's it. I've tried loading Windows from CD but it doesn't make a difference. It loads the files with the DOS-like loading screen, then does the exact same thing.
I've also tried to get it to start in Safe Mode. I push the key to get there but the start-up selection screen only flashes before going right into loading Windows normally.
Please, I don't know what to do and I desperately need this machine to get anything done. It's just outside of warranty, so if there's any way for me to fix this myself I'd like to try.
Some things I've wondered about:
1) Is there a for sure way to get into the start-up selection screen?
2) Can I format the HDD with FDISK and then load windows from my vista cd and have it reinstall?
Something strange happened on my T440s today when I first turned it on...it booted to windows, then I entered my windows login pin, and then the screen went blank/dark instead of going to the windows 8 tiles. so I closed the lid, and it went to hibernate. and when I opened the lid again the screen came back on and it worked fine.

When using Safari it asks for me to use the login keychain every few pages. This confuses me as I never set it up in the first place. Also it asks for me to use the login keychain everytime I launch Skype which is a pain in the . The only cause of this I can think of is that my IT department at college thought it would be clever to set up a login keychain before they handed my Macbook over to me and not tell me the password. I've tried my main password to log into my Macbook and its keeps saying the password is invalid. not a massive problem but still would like to get to the bottom of it.

After the updates, I can't do anything except turn on the computer, see the HP page, the green log in with password page, then all goes dark blue and freezes. View 1 Replies View RelatedIm a ENVY 17-j092nr Notebook PC (windows 8.1) pc user with all drivers and OS updates working fine, nevertheless sometimes im getting an annoying error that makes windows vibrate like crazy, the problem is a little odd to explain, it makes the BAR on explorer.exe folder flick and other "content frames" from several software, on Firefox for instance the upper bar which is orange start flicking useless, or in vlc it flicks the same, and then the worst on the windows log screen, that makes my picture flicks fast from the left to the middle several times per second, making impossible to write any password and its especially annoying when simple pass stop working.
Thing that i tried:
-Changing mouse and installing video, display, mouse and other drivers besides updating them.
-Using Windows build and external software fix and repair utilities.
-Updating OS (Why? dk but i was trying alternatives).
-Disconnection electricity when this happens didn't work.
-Cleaning fan and avoiding any external particle on mouse laser.
I have a ThinkPad X230 Tablet. I tried system restore and safe mode, but none of it works.
After windows loads with the glowing animation, the login screen does not appear. I cannot open a task manager. I don't know if it's a problem with explorer.exe or what.
The explorer.exe crashed when I tried to connect to an external hard drive, and I tried to get task manager to open, but it wouldn't open.
That's when I tried to restart computer, and login screen would not appear. All I have is a black screen with cursor.
