I am using Probook 4540s 64 bit window 8.1.i want to enable fingerprint scanner on login screen.I installed the driver , and also HP Protect Tool , i save my finger print also.Now when i reboot its give me finger print verification option.After that its ask me to insert pwd.I only want finger print scan, even in login scrren .

Problem: Fingerprint Scanner - Windows log in does not give option to log in via fingerprint scanner.
Overview: After installing fingerprint drivers from the HP site and using the HP Protect Tools to successfully enroll fingerprint, I tried logging in via this method but the windows log in screen does not display this option. Device manager correctly identifies and shows the fingerprint sensor - however, the control panel says no biometric devices detected.
Details of what steps I took trying to make the scanner work are given below.
Specs:
1) Probook 4540s
2) Windows 7 64-bit
3) i5-3210m, 1Gb Hd 7650m, 4 Gb 1333Mhz, 750Gb 5400rpm, VFS 491 Fingerprint scanner.
Details of the problem and steps I took to install drivers:
After a fresh installation of Windows 7, I went to the HP driver site to download the latest drivers for Probook 4540s:

I installed the drivers in roughly this order:
1)realtek ethernet controller drivers,
2)audio drivers,
3) the chipset and USB 3.0 drivers (but not the Intel MEI driver)
4) Intel video driver: faced an issue such that drivers were not being allowed to install. After disabling switchable graphics in the bios, I was able to get these drivers to install.
5) AMD video drivers: installed after the intel HD graphics driver - installed but Catalyst Control Center was not being displayed. So I re-enabled switchable graphics in BIOS, re-installed these drivers and CCC was now available.
6) HP hotkey support
7) HP universal camera driver
8) Validity Fingerprint sensor
9) Synaptics Touchpad driver
10) Atheros wifi & bluetooth
11) Jmicron card reader
After driver installation, I installed the HP Protect Tools. After prompting for a PC reboot - which I did - it asked for setup of security etc.. Part of this pocess was the enrolling of my fingerprints - successful. However, upon log off/ restart of windows, an option to log in with the fingerprint scanner did not appear in the Windows log in screen.
I opened the Control Panel, and found there was no biometric devices tab, even though device manager showed biometric device and validity sensor (VFS 491). I then proceeded to uninstall HP protect tools and the validity driver for the fingerprint sensor, then made sure these services were running:
-Credential Manager
-Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
-DCOM Server Process Launcher
-RPC Endpoint Mapper
-Windows Biometric Service
-Plug and Play
After reboot HP Protect Tools as before would enroll my fingerprints, but again no prompt at windows login came to log in with fingerprint. However, one change after the installtion of [URL] was that in control panel there is now a tab for biometric devices; however, it says that windows did not find any biometric devices installed. An image is attached showing both the device manager and the control panel!
I have a HP Envy M6-1158ca, and recently my Built-in display stopped working. I plugged it into an external display via HDMI and it showed no input. It seems as though the laptop is not booting into Windows either, as usually whenever my laptop boots into windows, the fingerprint scanner blinks letting me know I can now sign in using it. I am extremely frustrated with this, and have an unbelievable amount of stress because this was my only PC.

Now when I boot up my laptop the scanner flashes, but it won't let me set it up and asks for a password or scanner. Since I never set up my password I just close it and use my laptop. But now I don't know where/how to get back to the beginning in order to complete the set up.

When I set it up, the fingerprint function was working fine until some windows update took place. It wasn't working by then, I am not sure what kind of update it was but one "discoverable" difference of the Window is that there is power button on the start page. (I am not sure if that will be useful to find out what kind of update it was or if is the malfunction related to the update)
So is it because of the update or is the actual fingerprint scanner broken? Cause I only bought this laptop last month, I didn't think it wil be broken within a month!!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion dv6500z (32-bit laptop) running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have a combined problem, and do not know if they are related, or separate.
1) I am missing an icon from the initial screen that you are presented with when Windows first comes up, where you select which account to login to, prior to any Login/PW screen. (see additional comments below).
This starting occurring on every "boot" (cold or warm) after having run my laptop in the Safe mode, to analyze a different issue.
2) My fingeprint scanner is not working...I no longer get any pop-up if I accidentally drag a finger across the scanner's eye.
Normally when I boot my computer, I get two icons to choose from: one with my name/icon. My account is a SysAdmin account, not a normal account. I know what its icon is. I don't remember what the other was...I don't think it was a Guest account since the icons (pictures) to choose from when creating a Guest account don't look familiar to what was on the screen as the 2nd icon. I don't remember what is was, but think that it was logging-in using the fingerprint scanner.

I purchased a new L540 running Windows 7 and enrolled a finger. I can use the fingerprint to unlock but not to login. I've reviewed forum postings that suggest that I need to Change Biometric Settings, however the are set as "Biometrics On, Allow Users to log on to Windows using their Fingerprints." I note that the fingerprint software on the L540 is different than my 2 yr old W520, which had a way different interface.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just bought the HP Envy 15-j140na directly from HP. The laptop is fantastic, however I am having a problem with the fingerprint reader. The computer comes with the simplepass software version 8.00.57 already installed.
The problem I have is that once I have set up the fingerprint reader with simple pass, it doesn't prompt me to scan my print during the windows login and i have to log in normally. I have checked all of the settings and it should be set up, however there is no prompt. Just to note that everything else works fine. I can sign into websites on IE no problem at all using the fingerprint reader. It can be slightly frustrating as this defeats the point of having a fingerprint reader.
I am a recent owner of the T440s (unfortunately with the LG panel).
I have checked every single fingerprint setting I could find. I also tried older drivers and older versions of the fingerprint manager.
When I start up the machine, I cannot use the fingerprint reader to login. It does start flashing, but no reaction whatsoever. I can only login using my password.
It does work very smoothly when waking from sleep or hibernation. It also becomes active when I want to enter bios. Just not at startup.

I recently converted from a Lenovo X220 to a the Dell Latitude XT3. The XT3 is a better laptop minus a couple design choices. That said, there is one feature in particular that I will miss the most....My old X220 fingerprint reader allowed me to swipe with the latop powered down. This action would boot up the PC and log me in. This doesn't seem to work the same on the XT3. Instead, I must power it up then swipe in two separate steps.
Is there a way to get the XT3 to respond to a finger swipe while it is powered down?
I've got a fairly new T440s for which I've set up fingerpringt reading. I was wondering if there'd be an (easy) way to change the picture displayed on the welcome/login screen. I'm not talking about the background, but the icon in the middle that is currently a picture of a fingerprint.
I looked around at other threads and they either referred to editing .dll files (above my head a bit) or some picture in "C:Program FilesThinkVantage Fingerprint Software" which is not a directory on my machine. I'm running the latest version of Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro, and nothing in the Fingerprint Manager Pro program files looked persipacious.
I have a brand new T540P with a Validity fingerprint reader.
Rougly 80% of the time, the Fingerprint reader is unresponsive at the windows login screen after waking the computer from sleep. It works 100% of the time when booting from an off position, however. Once logged in, it also works 100% of the time. The issue only arises when logging into windows.
Things I have tried
-uninstalling/installing device in device manager and finger print manager pro software
-setting fingerprints through both fingerprint manager pro software (lenovo) OR through the built in windows fingerprint control panel options
-disabling "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" in device manager.
I should note as well that I have another T540P that I ordered as a replacement. Both models experience the same issue.
Is this a platform wide issue affecting all T540P models?

When I logon to my PC it provides the usual password box to type my password, but if I swipe the fingerprint reader nothing happens. I've registered four fingers, none of them work.
Are there some other settings I need to change to enable use of the fingerprint reader?
I see the biometric device in device manager, and registering fingerprints is no problem, it's just during logon that it's not working.
My new Probook 450 G1 (core-i5) Fingerprint reader is not working in win7-64bit. The problem is that there is a "Validity..." software on the laptop's drivers DVD and it says the fingerprint reader is not available or configured properly but when I remove the original hp fingerprint reader driver and let windows to find a driver for it, the "Validity..." software works but it hangs on the "fingerprint enrolling" step.
Both drivers (hp's and win7's) seems fine in the "device manager" but non of them seems to be working with the "Validity..." software, Do I have to use the "simple pass" software instead of the "Validity..." software?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy HP Envy dv6 recently did one of its updates and after that it restarted. Now when I turn my computer on it has the Hp logo, the login and after I log in nothing. There's just a black screen with a glow and the cursor. I know it's working because I can hear noises and the fan going but I can't see my desktop. But if I use the simple pass finger identification it will take me to the we page I saved on the designated finger. That's the only way I can get to the internet. I can't use anything else because I can't see my desktop. I can do ctrl alt del and that pops up but it doesn't do any good. I did the unplug everything, take out the battery, plug in AC adapter but not the battery , hold power button for 15 seconds then put the AC adapter but not the battery and turn on thing and nothing changed. I tried multiple restarts and shutdowns and nothing changed.
