View 4 Replies View RelatedProblem: Fingerprint Scanner - Windows log in does not give option to log in via fingerprint scanner.
Overview: After installing fingerprint drivers from the HP site and using the HP Protect Tools to successfully enroll fingerprint, I tried logging in via this method but the windows log in screen does not display this option. Device manager correctly identifies and shows the fingerprint sensor - however, the control panel says no biometric devices detected.
Details of what steps I took trying to make the scanner work are given below.
Specs:
1) Probook 4540s
2) Windows 7 64-bit
3) i5-3210m, 1Gb Hd 7650m, 4 Gb 1333Mhz, 750Gb 5400rpm, VFS 491 Fingerprint scanner.
Details of the problem and steps I took to install drivers:
After a fresh installation of Windows 7, I went to the HP driver site to download the latest drivers for Probook 4540s:
[URL]
I installed the drivers in roughly this order:
1)realtek ethernet controller drivers,
2)audio drivers,
3) the chipset and USB 3.0 drivers (but not the Intel MEI driver)
4) Intel video driver: faced an issue such that drivers were not being allowed to install. After disabling switchable graphics in the bios, I was able to get these drivers to install.
5) AMD video drivers: installed after the intel HD graphics driver - installed but Catalyst Control Center was not being displayed. So I re-enabled switchable graphics in BIOS, re-installed these drivers and CCC was now available.
6) HP hotkey support
7) HP universal camera driver
8) Validity Fingerprint sensor
9) Synaptics Touchpad driver
10) Atheros wifi & bluetooth
11) Jmicron card reader
After driver installation, I installed the HP Protect Tools. After prompting for a PC reboot - which I did - it asked for setup of security etc.. Part of this pocess was the enrolling of my fingerprints - successful. However, upon log off/ restart of windows, an option to log in with the fingerprint scanner did not appear in the Windows log in screen.
I opened the Control Panel, and found there was no biometric devices tab, even though device manager showed biometric device and validity sensor (VFS 491). I then proceeded to uninstall HP protect tools and the validity driver for the fingerprint sensor, then made sure these services were running:
-Credential Manager
-Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
-DCOM Server Process Launcher
-RPC Endpoint Mapper
-Windows Biometric Service
-Plug and Play
After reboot HP Protect Tools as before would enroll my fingerprints, but again no prompt at windows login came to log in with fingerprint. However, one change after the installtion of [URL] was that in control panel there is now a tab for biometric devices; however, it says that windows did not find any biometric devices installed. An image is attached showing both the device manager and the control panel!
I am having trouble with setting up the fingerprint scanner. I skipped the password set up when I first got this HP laptop. Now when I boot up my laptop the scanner flashes, but it won't let me set it up and asks for a password or scanner. Since I never set up my password I just close it and use my laptop. But now I don't know where/how to get back to the beginning in order to complete the set up.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am very new to Acer and Windows 8. I have bought this Travel Mate P645M notebook a month ago.
When I set it up, the fingerprint function was working fine until some windows update took place. It wasn't working by then, I am not sure what kind of update it was but one "discoverable" difference of the Window is that there is power button on the start page. (I am not sure if that will be useful to find out what kind of update it was or if is the malfunction related to the update)
So is it because of the update or is the actual fingerprint scanner broken? Cause I only bought this laptop last month, I didn't think it wil be broken within a month!!
I am using Probook 4540s 64 bit window 8.1.i want to enable fingerprint scanner on login screen.I installed the driver , and also HP Protect Tool , i save my finger print also. Now when i reboot its give me finger print verification option. After that its ask me to insert pwd.I only want finger print scan, even in login scrren .
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion dv6500z (32-bit laptop) running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have a combined problem, and do not know if they are related, or separate.
1) I am missing an icon from the initial screen that you are presented with when Windows first comes up, where you select which account to login to, prior to any Login/PW screen. (see additional comments below).
This starting occurring on every "boot" (cold or warm) after having run my laptop in the Safe mode, to analyze a different issue.
2) My fingeprint scanner is not working...I no longer get any pop-up if I accidentally drag a finger across the scanner's eye.
Normally when I boot my computer, I get two icons to choose from: one with my name/icon. My account is a SysAdmin account, not a normal account. I know what its icon is. I don't remember what the other was...I don't think it was a Guest account since the icons (pictures) to choose from when creating a Guest account don't look familiar to what was on the screen as the 2nd icon. I don't remember what is was, but think that it was logging-in using the fingerprint scanner.
I have a HP Envy M6-1158ca, and recently my Built-in display stopped working. I plugged it into an external display via HDMI and it showed no input. It seems as though the laptop is not booting into Windows either, as usually whenever my laptop boots into windows, the fingerprint scanner blinks letting me know I can now sign in using it. I am extremely frustrated with this, and have an unbelievable amount of stress because this was my only PC.

Just got my new Macbook Pro 13 a few days ago, so far I love it but not used to the MAC OS so I have a few questions.
1. Is there a way to see the actual signal strength/transmission information for the Wifi connection other then the 4 little eclipses? Doesn't seem like I'm getting a full wireless-n signal but somewhere around wireless-g.
2. When I install a program or at least it has happened with AppCleaner and Firefox, it put an icon on the desktop, sort of like when I have a DVD in with the Eject, Get Info ... etc options, I managed to remove them by choosing the Eject option. Is this normal?
3. Do I really need a virus scanner, I've seen a 50/50 split on yes and no.
4. Any sort of optimizations I should do?

If it worth installing, I need to install both Dell Security Manager and the driver?
I recently purchased a Latitude E6500 with fingerprint reader. I was so impressed with the Studio15 that I had. Here is the problem the software with the E6500 doesn't let you login on websites or programs, like the Studio did.
When contacted Dell they stated that it will only work with Vista. My E6500
came preloaded with XP Pro. So I bit the bullet and downgraded to Vista.
Guess what still no use except to log into windows. Wave software SUCKS!
Does any one know of software that will work in XP with the Latitude?
Digitalpersona does not have a XP version yet. Yet on my Studio I converted to XP and it worked. Anyone have a link to the fingerprint software on the Studio?
I have recenltly bought a e6500 everything was fine till I tried to install windows vista 32 bit again . The boardcom USH w/touch sensor was not installed in my former OS and I didn't have boardcom TMP neither .
But my fingerprint worked fine .
Then I reinstalled the windows and installed the latest drivers in order . I also updated the firmware but none of those helped me solve this problem .
When I try to enroll my finger print I get : "Device opened" and when I choose my thumb as an enrolling finger I get "an error occurred during enrollment please re-enroll"
Is there any thing that I can do ?
I highly recommend the standalone desktop version by Upek.
The cheapest I could find was buy.com ($41.08 with 5% off coupon available everywhere).
[url]
Mine came with the 5.8.2 version of their software, but the build date of the one posted in the "Upek" thread was a bit higher, so I used that one... ((not so) New Upek Fingerprint Reader Driver)
The reader operates exactly the same way as the one in the laptop (duh? same brand and same software).
If you have encrypted files from your laptop, you can open them on your desktop and vice versa...
i have been trying to figure this out for a week with no luck and even no luck through dell.
I have a new latitude e6400, i originally set my fingerprint, then decided to clean install vista 64 bit, after tons of problems, i then abandoned the effort. Went back to the original vista business 32 bit, however, everytime i turn on my computer, during pre-boot it asks me to scan my finger to get access to my computer, i just want to disable it, but it will not let me, i went into security setting in dell control point, and in that funky embassy software, i cannot find a way to disable the finger print reader, i dont want to uninstall just disable, any insights?
I can't use the fingerprint reader because I upgraded from Vista 32bit Home Premium to Win 7 Pro.I tried looking on the net and could not get the Person fingerprint reader to work.Is there a link on getting the 64bit software for Win 7 or some other alternative free software that can work on the 64 bit
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just received my E6400 from Dell today and setup the fingerprint reader. I noticed it only works when I boot up the notebook and then I scan to get to the windows login screen.
I was wondering If I can set it up so that I scan to login to windows rather than typing in a password. I was also wondering If I could configure it to login to websites for things such as email since I know you can do that with Windows Fingerprint Reader.
I got an E4300 through work and set up the fingerprint reader at the request of my IT department, but I hate this stupid thing. It never works and I always have to manually override it.
I asked them to take it off, but it's "firm policy" for our laptops to have the reader turned on.
Anyone know how to turn it off? It's controlled through Dell ControlPoint and maybe a proprietary program we have.
I just updated to Firefox 3.5 today and much to my dismay it has disabled the add-on for my fingerprint reader to log into things in Firefox on my XPS M1530.
Anyone have any idea on a workaround or an updated add-on?
I have tried enrolling many different fingers but the same message is returned. When I installled the driver R173506, I was presented with 4 folders ie x.86vista and x.64vista.
Plus two XP folders. I tried to install from the 64 but an error message was returned.
I eventually installed the drivers from the 86 folder. Just wondering if this is correct? The call centre said I should not be presented with these folder options.
Is there somebody out there who has received the original Digitalpersona CD-rom with the purchase of your Dell Studio 17?
I lost mine, and i am unable to see any download links on the DELL website.
Who can send me an .ISO file
Just wondering why this option isn't advertised as an option on the Studio 15 series of laptops anymore?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm getting ready to wipe the Dell out of the M6400 and do a clean install of Windows XP 32-Bit.
Is there a way to get the fingerprint drivers without having to install all the different Dell ControlPoint software? I don't need the Connection Manager, System Manager, and Control Point.
First off, I know the fingerprint reader is not very secure. But since I have a new XPS 1530 with a built in reader, I want to make sure I can use it because 1) it's under warranty & 2) it's cool.
I've read the readers can be quite flaky so if I decided to actually use it to log onto my computer, I want to make sure I will also always have the option to enter a password instead
i got my studio 17 and as soon as i got it i saw a little youtube video on the fingerprint reader and was wondering if it works well cuz i didnt order it with one but it looks pretty cool and fuctional and i am sick to death of typing in passwords if it is all its cracked up to be is there any way i could buy one and install it myself?
thank you for your replies.
how do you get this thing to take good images?
Every swipe (i did like 23 of them...and only one said good)...have come up saying bad image...try again....
When I ordered my E6400, it said on the Dell configuration pages that it would have a UPEK fingerprint reader. I am quite sure I got another fingerprint reader since it says "Broadcom USH CV w/Fingerprint Swipe Sensor" in Device Manager. When I look closely at the quotes I got from the Dell sales guy it doesn't say UPEK anywhere on the E6400 quote but it does say UPEK on the E6500 quote.
Does the E6500 have the same (non-UPEK) fingerprint reader?
Is it possible to get the E6400 with a UPEK fingerprint reader?
I would like to have a laptop with the UPEK fingerprint reader since I ordered a Dell USB UPEK fingerprint reader with my laptop that I intend to use when the computer is in the docking station. The USB UPEK fingerprint reader doesn't work with the fingerprint software on my E6400. I am not 100% sure it will work even if I would have the same brand of fingerprint reader in the laptop but I think it should increase the chance a lot.
