Dell :: Wireless-N Mini PCI For Inspiron 9200?

Dec 2, 2009

Is there any Wireless-N mini PCI cards which will work in the Dell 9200? If so, would I have to add a third antenna to make it work? Are there any walk through's or HOW TO's for this kind of upgrade, I've googled and there very little on this.

Dell :: Inspiron 9200 Hardware

Jul 15, 2009

I have a Inspiron 9200 that I purchased about 4.5 yrs ago and will be replacing it w/ a Studio 1555.

One of the main reasons is b/c there is something seriously wrong w/ the laptop where it goes extremely slow all of a sudden but especially with watching videos. I can barely watch videos on itunes since every starts going really slow. Playing videos using VLC player helps a lot but other task such as simply minimize a window takes forever. Another big problem is the fans. They are extremely loud when they turn on and the bottom of my laptop gets real hot. Im thinking this is a serious hardware problem since I've tried doing a fresh install of windows XP and i still have the same problems. My friend who knows a lot about computers opened my laptop about year and half ago and found a whole bunch of dusty balls in the fans. He took them out and my laptop fans were not loud anymore and my laptop was a little bit snappier but its gone back to its old ways. What I want to know is what are some possible explanations for the slow down.

Here are the specs for the Inspiron 9200

Pentium M 725 (1.60GHz)
17" UltraSharp Wide Screen XGA+ Display
512MB DDR 333MHz 2 DIMMS
128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
40GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive
Windows XP SP2
8X DVD+/-RW Drive
Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g 54Mbps)
53 WHr 6-Cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

Dell :: 1505 Wireless N-Mini For Inspiron 1525 Laptop

Jan 2, 2009

I just purchased an Inspiron 1525 Laptop it came with the 1505 Wireless N-MINI card. I have a wireless network with the Linksys Model# WRK54G. This network is secured.

I set up connection as WPA-Personal with TKIP, this mirrors my Dell desktop that connects, however it is a G level wireless card. I can not connect to the network even though the signal is excellent.

It may be obvious the fact that the wireless card in the laptop is an N an the router is a G. Will this work or do I have to get the 1395 802 11G Mini wireless card

Dell :: Can I Stuff 4GB RAM Into My 9200

Jan 25, 2009

STILL very happy with my old 9200!

Upgraded from a 1.8 Dothan to a 2.0, but didn't really see much difference. Stepping is managed by Right Mark.

I have 2GB of Kingston RAM in her. PC 2700, I think.
What's the bestest, fastest, coolest RAM I can put in, and how much can I jamb in there?

I'm not sure if they even made RAM in 2GB sticks for my system. The FSB is only 400, but what if I put in (2) sticks of 2GB RAM (that will fit), but is meant for a higher FSB?

Would I have acess to 4GB of RAM, only at the max speed my system would allow?

Or would my system simply puke because it just won't accept any more that 2GB?

(Pretty obvious I don't know anything about RAM,)

Dell :: Upgrading My Mini-PCI Wireless Card

Jan 3, 2008

Right now I have a Intel Pro 2200 wireless card. It only has wireless B. I can get a 3945 card for $12.50 shipped that has wireless G and B, or an Atheros card. I'm not sure what the whole wireless "N" thing is, so maybe someone could fill me in on that. Right now I only need the "G" capabilities as far as as I know. Is the Intel Pro 3945 the best bang for the buck? I see theres also a a 4945, but its almost double the price of the 3945. And as I mentioned above, I see Atheros cards, but I'm not sure how good they are. Do they have better wireless pick-up then the actual Intel cards?

if this keyboard supports BT 2.1? there is no tech specs on apple's website.

I get repeated keys and there is a firmware update that should take care of that.

also I had to pair it every 2-3 days because when I come back from hibernation or sleep it always have problems connecting. does the light blink when batteries are low?

I saw this software update, [url]

what does it add, and is it for this keyboard? all the keyboards in the download section have the same picture but there are d/l updates from 2006 when this keyboard wasn't even around.

The Mobile broadband application that dell supplies for win 7 is very primitive with very unstable network searching and connecting.

I was just wondering what the latest version software for win 7 is and where to look for an firmware upgrade if indeed there is one?

HP/Compaq :: Presario C500 C551nrReplacing Wireless Mini-pcie Card With SSD

May 25, 2009

I'm thinking about picking up a usb wireless n adapter; which means I won't be needing the internal wireless nic. Since that's a mini PCIe slot, I was wondering if anyone has tried replacing that with one of the many SSDs floating around the web...

2 main questions I have about those:

If they're mini-pciE, why are there sata versions and pata versions out there? There's no sata or pata connector on these cards it seems, the pci-e connector is all there is. Do they somehow use the sata/pata controller on the motherboard via the pci-e bus?

2nd question; would there be any way to boot from one of these? The bios has a bunch of options for booting up, network, usb, usb floppy, etc... but none for mini pci-e or anything like that...

Laptop is a presario C500, more precisely c551nr, broadcom 802.11b/g nic, 80gb toshiba 5400rpm slow ..... hard drive, and a celery 440 running the show..

The main use should be for internet (firefox amsn skype) and for open office, but sometimes I would like to use matlab 7.5
I think that is perfect with microphne and webcam built in but
does someone know if this kind of laptop with that processor is able to work well (or pretty well) with a version of matlab?
For sure I dont need of super performances
I like a lot the keyboard of that model and the price is very good

any suggestions?

Dell :: Mini Inspiron Review

Oct 26, 2008

Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Review.

Screen
The 8.9” SVGA (1024x600) LED backlight screen is impressive. Outside, with full sunlight directly on the screen I am able to view this review with no problems!
XGA (1024x768) is still the standard resolution (established in 1990) and many applications, websites, etc are optimized for XGA not SVGA. You might have to do some side scrolling but it’s definitely tolerable. For example, I wrote this entire review on the mini 9 (no cheating).

Keyboard
The only other netbook I’ve been able to use is the ASUS eee PC 900. Compared to the ASUS’s keyboard the mini 9’s is great! It may take some time getting used to but this keyboard it is bearable, unlike the ASUS. The function keys (F1, F2, etc)have been replaced with function keys, meaning you have to press the Fn key to access the function keys (i.e. Fn + A = F1). The F11 and F12 keys are gone, no ifs and or buts about it. Keep that in mind if any of your applications require these two keys.

Batty Life
GREAT! I clocked 3 and a half hours under some pretty heavy usage.

Memory card reader
I only tested a SD card, it works fine and the card fits fully into the machine. Some notebooks only insert ˝ the card leaving the other half hanging out........

Dell :: Mini 9 Inspiron Review ...

Sep 22, 2008

Got one of the new Dell Mini 9 notebooks or netbooks as some call them today. Have had much too little time with it, but wanted to post a review anyway. Here's what I've learned so far...

specs.
I ordered the $449 Windows XP version with 1 gig ram and the 16 gig SSD hard drive. The unit only comes with a 1024x600 screen which is adequate, but I do wish one of the netbook makers would push the limit to 1280x800. It also has a 4 cell battery good for about 3 hours, and the standard port setup of 3 USB, VGA, sound in/out and an ethernet. There is also a slot for an SD card to help out the small SSD hard drive if desired.

What's in the box.
The system came with only a power adapter, which is not more than just a normal looking power brick, so you'll need a plug with room to use it. And, the OS CD, resource CD and Works CD. And, a terse manual and other odd paper work. The power cord is plenty long enough so getting power to it is not hard at all. The power plug is located on the left had side of the unit near the back....................

Dell :: Inspiron Mini 9 And SDHC Cards

Nov 1, 2008

I was wondering how far out an installed SD/SDHC card sticks out of the slot on the Mini 9? It seems a common thing for people to buy a big, fast card and leave it in there for permanent additional storage. I've got one on order thanks to all the fun with the Dell Outlet this week (missed the 15% off deal but managed to score a 512/16GB with no OS (have spare XP Pro, Vista, and Ubuntu I'm going to try) for only $329).

I ordered a 2GB stick of G.Skill 4-4-4-12 from Newegg but haven't yet picked up an SD card - I had one in my fiancée's e1505 but in her taking it places it apparently got knocked out, but since that was just for ReadyBoost, no big deal. However if I have an 8GB+ SDHC card in my Mini 9 I don't want it disappearing for obvious reasons.
