Jan 7, 2009What are my options for replacing a extremely worn touchpad surface on a Dell lattitude D630? Or should I just live with it?

View 6 RepliesThere is no "dell touchpad" tab in my mouse settings which I could use to enable/disable the touchpad in various ways. I installed the driver below which was given to me on this forum, I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

I just picked up an Inspiron 13 Signature Edition from the Microsoft Store. Pretty decent hardware so far. This is the model with Core i5, 8 GB RAM and 1080p screen, and was only CAD$699+tax after a $100 discount.
I noticed in store that I could not find any options to change touchpad behaviour in detail. Specifically I would like to disable single tap to click (considering this touchpad can press-click I'd rather not accidentally tap-click). I would also love it if I could have the gesture working where triple-tap is like a middle mouse button press.the non-Signature edition of this unit comes with Dell's touchpad driver and all I'd have to do is get the driver from Dell. However when I entered the service tag into Dell's site I did not find a Touchpad driver. I found one from Synaptics for its smaller cousin the Inspiron 11 and guessed it might be the same pad but I could not get the driver to work successfully.
The new XPS 13 2015 touchpad works fine, but its missing any real options to manage it.
Items I would like to see that are not exposed in Win8 control panel.
Task switcher in windows desktop
Back swipe in IE
I bought Acer Aspire E5-521 and it has windows 8.1 x64 operation system.
I downgraded to Windows 7 x64 operating system.
I did all of windows 7 drivers except Synaptics Touchpad driver.
I searched on internet and tried a few synaptics touchpad drivers but not successful.
My touchpad is working but I can't use multigesture options.
I mean; I can't scrool a page or I can't zoom in/out any photo on touchpad.
There is not any exclamation mark or problem on my device device manager.
How can I solve this problem and install correct driver.
Did you check out the supported gestures from Microsoft to make sure you are using the correct gesture for pinch and zoom? Unfortunately, I do not have a contact at Microsoft I can contact on this issue.
In response to your question about Windows 7....You can install any OS you choose, and shouldn't have a problem installing Windows 7. You will need to make sure Windows 7 drivers are available for your system. Drivers can be found at [URL] ...
Just setting up a new Aspire E5 for my girlfriend and can't see how to change touchpad options (eg sensitivity, scrolling settings etc). On my own acer V3 571G from the basic mouse options I can go into "elan" to change various options but don't seem to have (or can't find) this option on the new E5...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got my m1330 used with 1 light of battery health lit. I've been using it fairly for a month. One time I noticed I got only about 1 hour on battery power.
I don't know... i'm having serious problems with this notebook. It was very slow because got really hot until I upgraded it to A15 where it somehow works... What should be done for me to request a replacement?....
the DV5 in my use was purchased in Oct '08 (30th) and in the time following that the battery has worn down to 6.2-7% based on charging rates can i claim on this if not what can i do to prevent this (cycling does not help..and please no links to HP's battery tips..those do not work...atleast the power cycling did not)

Interesting what we have under the table....
On the right side is HDD - I'm 100% sure but on the Left?

I went to Best Buy to look at a Studio 15 model. I noticed the surface around the mousepad where you rest your wrists....
It was warm and it felt really soft...almost a bit sticky soft. Is that because of the clear finish? I'd rather have a smooth surface than a soft sticky one.
Could this have been an anomily or would my model be like this if I bought one?
I recently restored my XPS to it's factory image and am in the process of removing all of the odd bits-and-ends that came packaged in the computer.
However, I am unable to remove this blue icon that pops up whenever I use the surface touch-buttons which control the volume, and a similar icon pops up whenever I use the wireless networking on/off button.
A picture of what I'm talking about can be found at: http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/7...mapimagemx.png .....

I own a Vaio Z VGN-Z555DN
The internel cable that connects the motherboard to the keyboard and the mousepad got worn off. I have mistakenly damaged it while cleaning my laptop from dust.
Is there an online store that sells that cable so I could fix it my self?
I currently have a latitude x1, it served me well, but it's time to upgrade. My options are something within the 13"-15" screen range --no more external disk drives--such a pain in the backside. My main concern with which i need assistance is what
Dell screen would be best visually? My position requires extensive computer use so I need a screen that would be best on the eyes. What i noticed with my current model is that it puts a lot of strain on my eyes. Perhaps it is the brightness, or perhaps it is the actual quality of the screen, in any case I need help selecting an appropriate model for me.
I specifically want to go with dell because I receive a discount through them.
money is not an issue. I primarily use my notebook for MS Office applications, media editing, and web browsing -- occasionally play a game or two or watch a movie.
My current options are Vostro 1320
screen options- 13.3 ultrasharp WXGA LCD w/true life
or, -anti glare 13.3 WXGA.
XPS Studio 13
-Edge to edge 13.3 HD WXGA LCD
-Edge to edge 13.3 HD WXGA Slim WLED LCD
Latitude E4300
-13.3 Wide screen WXGA WLED panel for latitude ON
I bought a Inspiron 1545 in the outlet section, got it for $420 with a coupon I got off ebay.
I got the laptop and I absolutely love it! But there is a problem, the graphics card driver keeps crashing, this is an annoying problem and I think it might progressively get worse, so I'm worried.
My options so far that I can think of are:
Do a complete OS reinstall (can I use my dell cdkey to reinstall vista?)
Send it in to get fixed, if that's the case, what kind of fixing will they do?
Thanks.!

I'm currently running 190.40 drivers for my GeForce 9500M on my SXPS13. Before updating to 190.40, clicking the little green NVIDIA tray icon that shows what mode you're running in allowed me to choose my mode manually through the use of two radio buttons.
Currently, I can only switch between "Boost Performance" and "Save Power" by switching power profiles in Windows. Is there some way I can get back those radio buttons without having to go back to the older driver?
I know this question has been repeated, but what are the best things that can be done with the XPS Gen 2 (M170) to polish its shine? Can a graphic card with 512MB be installed? Mother board replaced?
One more thing, Anybody succeeded in replacing his/her old system with a new one with Dell?
I am stuck debating between the 15.4 WLED (1440*900) and the 15.4 non-LED (1920*1200). I am just not sure which I would prefer. If the WLED came in a 1920*1200 option I don't think I would be so concerned.
I really like the size, weight, and potential power savings of the WLED screens but I am used to working on larger monitors (22 and 25 inch) running at higher resolutions.
What does everyone think about these two choices? Will I be happy with the WLED at the smaller resolution or is it better to opt for the traditional screen with the higher resolution?
Just so everyone knows the laptop won't be my primary computer but will get a lot of use while working on graduate work away from home, writing website code, and general use. The only gaming activity it might see is some occasional WoW.
I'm trying to connect my Vostro 1500 to a Philips 32PFL7562D, however it doesn't have a VGA port.
I know I can't do VGA-HDMI, or VGA-Component (I think my card doesnt support the correct output?)
I'm not interested in a large resolution (I guess that 1280x800 is enough in a 15" screen) but it seems that the display with this resolution has a smaller view angle (especially vertical) than the 1400x900 display that maybe is not very good if you spend some time reading documents.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently had one of my D620's fail on me due to overheating GPU, and now that I've given it to a family member, I've been thinking about what I could do to help the issue,
as she watches quite a bit of TV shows on YouTube and GPU temperatures shoot up to 170F or so even with the back of the laptop jacked up. My D630 hovers around 150F just doing office-type work .....
130 bucks for a 6-cell battery on my 1400? Ouch!
I'm not looking for one just yet but I was curious and looked it up. Are the prices still inflated after that factory fire or something?
this is my first time posting, and i have a question.
i've heard that later on there will be different color lids for the sxps 13 and 16.
i understand that this is both a studio and an xps, so it makes me wonder if i can have cool designs on the top. i don't know how thats gonna fly with the leather, because black is the only color that i can think of that would go with it.
so heres my question: do you think that dell will release custom, or at least different colors for the sxps? possibly midnight blue, the RED one, white, brown, green. anything. and if you do, when do you think they will release the new options?
I was wondering about the E6500 screen options. The options shown for LED screens are:
15.4in Wide Screen WXGA+ (1440x900) with LED backlit
15.4in Wide Screen WXGA (1280x800) LED
I need a LED screen because the laptop will be used to outside in direct sunlight alot. Brightness is very important. Resolution however is not. After talking to Dell on the phone they told me the LED backlit is much brighter then the standard LED option. However, I am wondering if this claim is true and that their not just trying to make me get a 100 euro option I don't need
im a pretty average college student and i need to replace my laptop, ive deteremined it down to the studio 15 b/c i like its battery life, but i cannot decide what to do about the graphics card
i will put flatly i do not game, however i do run alot of sort of UI fancy up stuff like topdesk, windowsblinds, and so forth, and id like to be able to run aero and output using hdmi
I was going to repair my Inspiron 8600 but now I have a chance to get my hands on an XPS M1710 with what is believed to be the same fried video card everyone is experiencing with it...what would my options be for repairing this computer if it is simply the video card needing to be replaced?
I can find the stock replacements through Dell and eBay, but I'm curious if there are other alternatives out there?
if the hard drive from my Inspiron 8600 would be compatible?
My mother's Dell Inspiron e1505 needs a new battery. However, after she did research, she said that the OEM Dell batteries are really bad, and that 3rd-party options (such as Rayovac) are better.
I've always been told the opposite--that the OEM batteries are the best.
I'm using Vostro with Windows XP SP3 since 2 days I'm unable to see the "Folder Options(like hiding the folders)" Under Tools Menu Bar.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the XPS m1330 with the nVidia 8400 GPU. Got it back in September of 2007 with just one year warranty.
I just started getting the rainbow colored vertical lines on the screen today, did research, and found out it is due to faulty GPU design.
Called up Dell, and they said even my one year extended warranty due to this common GPU error was over in September of 2008.
They also said I am out of luck, unless I want to go through their out of warranty repair department.
I didn't use the laptop on regular basis till just 8 months ago when my old one finally gave out of me after 6 years. So m1330 has been only used for 8 months, and now I am stuck with bunch of verticals lines, and no hope.
