I Have a vostro 1510 Laptop. when I wanted to clear the BIOS password, at the "new password" part, I dont enter enything and save it.after restart the computer not accept the old password nor accept the new password (blanks).
I've got a problem with setting the admin password on bios A02 at Vostro 1540. Machine just doesn't switch to "locked" mode, after reboot it goes straight to OS, like bios password never been set. Is it defective machine/firmware or maybe I've missed something?
I own a vostro1510 with a 8400m gs. i am a casual gamer and during gaming gpu goes upto 85c. i am worried about my gpu as we all know about the failure rate of 8400 and 8600. my warranty is going to expire on sep 15 so do you guys recommend me going for extended warranty? i find it a bit costly.
remember my laptop was purchased on sep 15 2008 and my mobo was replaced few months back(not due to failing gpu). someone also told me that the replacement gpu's are not defective is it so?

i install vista 64-bit, but when i insert vostro notebook cd, i see that driver support only vista 32-bit, no drivers for vista 64-bit.
in that way, i can connect internet, because in network and sharing center-->>manage network device there was blan page, no local area connectiom, no wireless, nothing..
i that case i must back to vista 32-bit and search solvation for this problem vist 64-bit windows.
I received this dell laptop on 3rd of march 2009 and ever since I got this laptop, my life has been a living hell. I've written about my problems before:
Vostro 1510 - touchpad/keyboard problems
Basically, I've wasted plenty of time chatting with dell representatives and they have already replaced my touchpad (twice), heat sink, fan, motherboard, keyboard in such a short span.
I've tried switching to different operating systems and it hasn't helped me in any way. Now, when I try to contact dell representatives, they tell me that its not a hardware problem since the hardware has already been replaced and so they just give me the same software solutions (reinstall os, reinstall drivers) as before without even listening to my problems. One time this representative even cut off the line. Now what I want to ask is : can i return this laptop now ? I know that my 21 day period is over but my work is really suffering right now because of this laptop.
I've had a Vostro 1510 laptop since February 2009, when I turn it on it makes clicking noises then it will eventually quit but today while reading a lengthly article online.
My clock's second hand will move 5 seconds then click, 5 more seconds then click and so on and so on but today the laptop was making a similar sound .....
I'm looking to buy another AC adapter for my vostro 1510, one that can just stay at home plugged into the wall for when im at my desk
The AC adapter that came with the laptop was a 90W PA-10 model adapter
would it make any difference if i bought the 60W version?- again, this charger will only be to have the laptop plugged into a wall outlet at home at my desk
I received a new Dell Vostro 1510 a few weeks ago and have to say although the lid looks nice it's a major fingerprint magnet. What kind of an electronics cleaner can I use and what should I use to apply the cleaner directly to the lid with to help keep the lid clean and free of my fingerprints?
Also what should I use to help keep the LCD monitor clean? I certainly won't use Windex and a paper towel. MY monitor is the anti-glare entry level monitor which works great for web surfing and email but not so great for watching DVD's or online videos. It's too late now but if I had to reconfigure the laptop again which other monitor choice should I have selected for better viewing quality?
I've been experiencing a BSOD most of the times after a Sleep. That is: when I close the lip and reopen when Windows goes to Sleep automatically under Balanced Power State
The built-in keyboard works perfectly while the installed Windows XP is up and running, including Fn functions, CAPS LOCK etc.
But during system boot up, it shows no reaction at all! Neither does hitting Caps lock, NUM and Scroll lock change the indicator LEDs. -> no BIOS access -> no boot up from CD/DVD -> not even the XP Boot Menu (that shows up after hitting F8 or abnormal shutdown) is controllable
As soon as Windows is up, it works perfectly again.
I have windows vista Ultimate on my Dell Vostro 1510 and my DVD drive (OPTIARC AD-7640A) acts like cd-rom & doesn't recognize dvd's. I have tried all kind of dvds (+/-/original/copy) but all i got is a noise !
I searched everywhere & tried:
1.Uninstall/installing the drive 2.removing registry keys (upper and lower filters ) 3.firmware update JD06 4.System Restore
Im trying to record some audio using my new Vostro 1510 but I can't seem to select the internal microphone and it allows me use the 3.5mm plug with a external microphone.
I think the microphone is left to the webcam
But there is no selection in the Sound settings. Tried in Skype, WLM, etc. It worked fine in Vista basic. I upgraded to ultimate and it doesnt work .....
i've a problem with my laptop which is not detecting any pendrives on my laptop when i''m placing in the usb ports. i dono why it hapened and dono what to do to solve the problem even...
i'm using windows xp sp2 on my vostro 1510 laptop and all drivers are installed as required but problem persistes and iritating me.
It also seems that the motherboard won't recognize the battery despite the fact that windows *can* occasionaly recharge it,even weirder sometimes with no prior warnning or indication it seems that it is able to recharge again. My two theories are that the problem is either faulty hardware, or I need to update BIOS. What do you think?
I now have a grey screen on booting and it is trying to reboot itself. It started with lines then dots. I managed to boot OK once after this but now just a grey screen. I believe I have managed to start diagnostics pressing Fn while starting as I heard beeps which kept repeating until I pressed Y, yes, I heard the sounds, I guess. But I can only see a grey screen so do not know the results of the tests. There are no beeps or diagnostic lights staying on or flashing to tell me anything. I had this problem before but cannot remember what I did if anything to remedy it.
i've gotten a Insperion 1501 from a customer. The BIOS and HD require a password. Dell laughs when i call about this issue. Does anyone know the backdoor passwords for this model?
I have pulled the batteries and plug and let it sit over night, the password s still on the machine.
Customer does not know the password as it was set up for him by someone else who has since moved on.
So I would like to reset this password or turn it off so I can move on and make the laptop usable. How to disable this feature or a back door password that will allow me to get in and switch off the BIOS password?
I bought a used vostro 3700. I need to change the boot sequence, but it will not let me into the setup without an admin password. What that password is. Previous owner is unknown. What can I do?
My friend was given an E1705 (electronics pallet) that has BIOS p/w locked. It has an MX25L8005 bios chip. Can the password be read using an eeprom reader?
