This is an older laptop that I'm working on for a friend. She don't have enough money for tech support or anything like that. I went through the system to change the ownership to me, hoping that it would facilitate the process.
The only good thing is that I can still boot from a USB drive, though nothing I've tried from that angle works. The HDD is locked down, of course.
i have a dell inspiron 1501 and there is a hd password on it i even switch the hd to another dell laptop and still ask me for the password ....now i called dell and they said to pay 49 dollars BECAUSE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED to resolve the issue

My son added an administrator or logon password to my HP Pavilion g7 notebook. I know the password but I want to remove this option from the computer so that I dont have to input the password everytime I turn on the computer. I called HP but my warranty expired about 2 months ago.

How to remove the bios password on an XPS 15 L502X? my sister just bought a used one but the owner can't recall the bios password since he did it when it was new and it's been 3 years since. when I press f2 for bios settings it asks to enter password/unlock key and below it says Unlock key hint number 21F1B00C, don't know what that is.
I have a Dell XPS L321X that currently has both an admin and system password set. I know these passwords, that is not the issue. The issue is that I would like to remove the system password but leave the BIOS password protected.
Maybe I am being dense, but I cannot find where to DEACTIVATE the system password. I have the option change it but not remove it.
i've set a HDD password in the bios just to see how exactly would it work, but now when i enter the BIOS, i have to option to clear the password.. it says HDD password frozen.
