my laptop just started making a hissing noise around the battery/fan while it is plugged in. i unplugged it and the hissing noise was still there but not as strong. i did an f12 diagnostics and the fan passed and the battery holds its chage really well. any idea what it might be? also my screen is flickering on one side and dim on the other. would that be b/c of the hissing noise or something else?
I have a Sony VGN-Z36GD. I am having problems with my sound. When I try and record something all I get is a hissing sound when I play it back. When I use Skype I can hear the person I am talking to but they cannot hear me. My laptop says everything is working yet it is not.
my new dell E6400 just got a small scratch on the lid. It really bothers me because I can see it in most lighting even though it's not a big scratch. Part of the reason why I decided to buy a business line laptop is that it's suppose to be more durable. I have been careful with my laptop and it still got scratched. Does anybody know anything I can do to remove the scratch? Also, what is the most protective laptop sleeve for a 14.1 laptop with a 9 cell battery?
When I plug my acer laptop charger into the wall, the green light lights up accordingly. when i plug it into my laptop the greenlight begins blinking and my laptop does not charge. is something wrong with my laptop or charger? Yesterday my laptop just shut itself off, i wasnt monitoring the battery because at the time it was plugged into the wall. Now its not charging anymore, did I burn something out?
I have an Acer 7735-6719 laptop, but hate the keyboard and the restiction of pushing the screen back. A friend has the older 7530-5682..and is willing to swap... what are the pros and cons.

I also dont know that how to launch that window in which i can change the boot priority. In my pc that i use in home i press del after starting my computer and a window comes where i change my boot priority and then boot from cd windows xp and install it. But in this case i dont know how to install xp. and my next question is that can i play cd in DVD-Dual double layer.
I just bought a refurbished Studio 15. Is there anything that anyone of you recommend me doing? I already did a burn in test with "BurnInTest". Actually, everything passed except the DVD drive. I'm going to retest it tonight to see if it fails again. I already ran the battery down to 5%, then charged it back up. Is there anything else I need or should do? This is my first new laptop in 5 years, I want this one to last.
I recently ordered a Dell Studio 1558, thinking I got a good deal after taking about 3 days and talking to several reps, got the order done and all, it is now In-Production.
I went ahead and ordered the Latitude E6510, but since the Studio 15 is in production, I can't cancel, so I'll be getting both laptops, and I can return before 30 days off course.
Can't make up my mind on which one to keep, here's the specs of both:
Studio 1558 i7 720q | 4GB RAM | 500gb 7200rpm HDD | ATI 5470 1GB 15.6 True Life 1080p Screen | 8x DVD-RW | Back-Lit Keyboard | Soundblaster 3yr Advanced Complete Care Warranty | 9 Cell | Win 7 Home Premium X64 $1376.04
Latitude E6510 i5 540m | 4GB RAM | 500gb 7200rpm HDD | Nvidia 3100m 512mb 15.6 Anti-Glare RGB LED 900p Screen | 8x DVD-RW | Back-Lite Keyboard 3yr Basic Warranty (included) + 3yr Complete Care | 9 Cell Battery Win 7 Pro x64 w/ XP Mode $1355

I have never owned a laptop before buying my 1530 and I have to ask this, if I use it every day for work, school, and gaming - will this cause any problems? laptop life shortens?
do you use it all the time? I am thinking of buying a desktop to replace this for everyday use. The vents being placed on the bottom of this laptop don't help much..
I'm trying to choose a laptop at the moment and I'm finding it hard to do. I primarily want it for gaming and want it to play all the latest and greatest games.
Originally, I wanted an Alienware but I can't justify the price to be honest. Maybe the M11X but I'm not too sure if thats very good for gaming.
These are the laptops I'm looking at:
DELL Studio 17 DELL Studio XPS 16 Alienware M11X
The studio 17 has a 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 560v
The XPS 16 has a 1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 4670 graphics card & The Alienware M11X has a 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M
Which is the best graphics card out of these? I know theres more to it than just a graphics card but I thought that would be a good place to start. Also, the i7 processor would be best I think so does that cancel out the M11X? Which laptop would you get for gaming? Personally, I'd like the 17 inch screen size as I'm out of college and don't really need the portability anymore - I use my iPhone for most of my web browsing nowadays. Basically, I'm looking for a really powerful gaming laptop for around €1,200.
With my Dell XPS Gen 2 on the way out, I've bitten the bullet and ordered a Studio XPS 16:
Intel i7 820QM CPU Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit 500GB Hard Drive 4GB 1333Mhz RAM 15.6 inch Full HD 1080p LED Edge to Edge Screen 1GB Ati Radeon HD 4670 Graphics
The question is, once I receive it, what's good practice to get the best out of it? I'm guessing reinstalling Windows 7 is a gimmie, but what else?
I currently own a dell laptop and have the problem of it overheating very quickly as opposed to other laptops I have used. Is this a normal occurance or could it be a problem with my personal notebook.
Since dell refuses to do anything to solve the heat issue with the xps 1645 i am planning on buying a notebook cooler but i am undecided what to pick, was wondering if anyone could give me some opinions...
I'm looking for a desktop replacement when I graduate college. I've loved my 17" Inspiron 9300 for the past 4 years, but it's time for an upgrade. My family and I have only ever bought Dells, and we've always been happy with them. Because I'm mostly going to be using the laptop at home, with minimal travel, I'm thinking of an 18.4" laptop. HP has one that looks very reasonably priced, the Sony one is more expensive, but I'm still hoping Dell comes out with one soon. Is there any word that this will be happening? And if not, do you recommend Sony or HP?
I was surfing in the Dell website to know how I can register my fore-buying XPS laptop. But surprisingly I didn't find anything like "register" for a product ( unlike hp or toshiba that you can find it on the companys home page). How can I register it?
I was just working on my laptop and all of a sudden it went off. Now when i am trying to turn it on it is not starting. I tried only on power, only battery and both.
But it is not working. And also when i am plugging my charger to charge my battery the LED for charging is not glowing.
I need to select a new laptop for work. My company allows Dell only.
Currently, I have a Dell Latitude D610. (yes time to upgrade).
I travel often. Therefore, weight is a factor. I'm not sure if I should go with the 14" or 15" screen. My current 14" seems OK. I need a laptop where I can use a port replicator. I believe that this limits my choices. Some of the models I like from a design standpoint don't seem to offer this.
So, I ended up with: Latitude E6400 Latitude E6500 Latitude E5500 Latitude E5400
I couldn't really figure out what the difference is between the E5x and E6x.
I have a Dell Xps 1530 with a 1920 x 1080 display. I connected it to my 40" Samsung LCD 720p using an HDMI cable, but its not as crisp as I have seen such connections be at stores. For example the text isn't crisp at all.
Also, I heard that if I connect through an HDMI cable that sound should also be transferred, but when I play something from the laptop the sound comes from the xps rather than the TV.
On March 13th, I started to go to work and found my back window of my Silverado broken and my xps m1530, missing along with my camera and ipod.
I immediately called the police, then lojack to report the theft. On March 25th, I got call from the police, informing me they had my laptop in their possesion. No camera or ipod though. Police said person bought it "on the open market", and no charges were filed, until further investigation.
Upon receiving the laptop back, I went to the Internet Explorer history and found where the person had went to the manufacturers website for accessories for the digital camera, like charger, docking station, etc. It just so happens, not very many Kodak V610 bluetooth cameras were sold in our area. I called the detective in charge of the case and informed him of this.
He called the suspect and was given a line, about checking kodak for his sister. At 4:00 pm today he called me and informed me he was in posession of my camera and a bunch of other stuff, and the subject was under arrest.
I'm getting a laptop with 2 audio inputs and 1 output, and I was wondering if there was any way I could use my z5300 speakers (currently on my desktop rig with an xfi xtrememusic) with this laptop.
Recently I noticed that my laptop doesn't automatically sleep like it used to. I have the option set to '1 Hour' for it to sleep, but it just doesn't seem to work.
The screen turns off at the correct time and that, but sleep never kicks in.
It used to work fine. It worked perfectly to the point that it got annoying when downloading my larger Steam games as it would pause the download, so I would disable it (set time to 'Never') whilst downloading. I defaulted it back to '1 Hour' after my download had complete however.
Even when I set sleep to 3 or 4 minutes it still had the same problem. Also to note: I have my laptop plugged in to the AC (it's not running off battery) .....
A friend of mine has an Old Dell 6000 and she doesn't want to sell it online coz she won't really get much for it..Is there any way she can trade it in or sell it to Dell?
Quick background: at work there's a place where people dump old/broken computer stuff for disposal. I have already picked up a fully working P4 desktop (no monitor of course) in the past.
Today I found an LCD panel with serial number ITSX95L2 and a quick Google search shows that it's made by IDTech (their logo is also found on the back of the panel) and that it's used in some old Dell Inspiron models.
I want to test whether this LCD is still functional so that I may sell it on eBay or do some DIY project with it .....
