View 8 RepliesWhich is preferable for the palm rest area...the shiney plastic of studio XPS of 13" or the aluminum of XPS 13"?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere are dark grey marks on both side of the palm rest on my M1210 palm rest which doesn't come off no matter what i use on it. There were never there until i cleaned my laptop with some iso-propyl alcohol. I wiped the whole laptop and around the two palm rest area, silver stuff were coming off my laptop and transferring into onto my cloth.
The place where the silver things come off became a big dark spot on my laptop.
I sent my computer for repair to Dell after a fall and when it came back, it came back with a variety of new problem. turns out, dell people damaged the the motherboard and forgot a few screws with a new palm rest when they were "fixing" it.
Anyway, I got a technician to change the motherboard and I got a new palm rest. Now I have the feeling the palm rest/mouse pad get a bit warmer than before but I am not really sure.
How hot should it be for a normally functionning XPS 1530? It is not burning hot or anything but I don't remember if before it was getting this warm.
Before I buy this laptop I am wondering what is the palm rest made from? I did chat to dell and they said magnesium? It doesnt look like magnesium to me
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe silver trim that runs around the border of the case is starting to wear away and pit around where my palms rest. Is this something covered by warranty? And if not is it reasonably affordable / simple to fix?
The main reason I wanted this computer was for it's looks, so the fact that it's already starting to form visual defects is really, really annoying.
I've been trying to find reviews of the new Vostro 1520 on the web and have been having varying degrees of luck.
I have noticed however that a few people have complained that the left palm rest of the Vostro 1520 is too hot. One person measured it to be 103 deg F
Recently got a Latitude E6400 w/ 2.66Ghz, 4GB RAM, nvidia 160m, 250GB (7200rpm). The left Palm rest is often very hot to keep my hand on it. I even use Antec Laptop cooler pad.
Checking temperatures using speedfan, I have following temps when the left palm rest is hot:
GPU - 55-60C
HDD - 42C
Temp1: 37C
Core 0: 32C
Core 1: 38C
Has anyone removed the stickers from the right palmrest of their E6400 (or similar)? The Windows Vista Basic sticker is really annoying to me, but it seems to be very securely attached and I don't want to ruin anything in the process of removing it....
View 10 Replies View RelatedHas anyone attempted to replace the palmrest/keyboard assembly on their S XPS 16? I've done keyboards on older Dell laptops but this seems a bit more involved. The metal trim on the palm rest is coming up so it would be nice to have it replaced,
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used my Studio 1535 without problem about 4-5 months and temperatures were fine. But from some time I have very strange problem. First my charger became relatively very hot, my mother consider it as very hot as well.
After my hard disk becomes hot 39-40 C, and now I guess as result from fan system and HDD high temperature, my left palm rest (typically warm on most notebooks) is hot too.
I have an AR series Vaio and ive just got a new palm rest for it, can anyone tell me how easy they are to fit as i was expecting just a bit of plastic but its quite an in depth part where i think the keyboard and a few other things have to come off.
Its a Vaio VGN-AR51SU i have identical to this
I just got a new 6930p. It's rather warm on the left side where the palm would rest and causes a rather big discomfort.
Is there any type of cooling pad that would cool it down?
I know the HP dv5t's hard drive is on the left side , but is not located near the palm rest...instead it's near the battery compartment, just below it.
So what is under the left palm rest? Is it the GPU? CPU? It's pretty hot when in "High Performance" mode, but slightly warm when in "Power Saver" mode.
My GF has the Macbook 1.1 and she has the discolored palm rest issue, she has apple care and she says that it doesn't expire.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was giving my 1645 a nice cleaning when I noticed a depression on the left hand side palm corner. The black of the palm rest actually sinks below the the silver trimming. Is this normal? is it supposed to be flush? Does it mean I need yet ANOTHER part replaced on this damn laptop?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought a Z2 VAIO a while back, and curiously my Z26 didn't come with the VAIO spec sticker on the palm rest. Now, I know that you would be going 'why would you want that?'
(since I read that people usually take those off because they look horrendous), but would it indicate something iffy with my Z26? I bought this from a Sony Style store
Just bought a Sony Viao 448 J/B the palm rest gets very warm almost hot when running. This is my first Viao so I'm not familiar with the normal symptoms.
View 5 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone else get a slight tingling or vibrating sensation on the right palmrest? It doesn't really bother me but I just find it peculiar....it's really hard to describe except that my hand can feel some kind of vibrating going on (it's very subtle and doesn't make noise). Anybody else know what I mean?
View 10 Replies View RelatedAs the title says I'm looking for some new parts.
I'm currently in need of new:
LCD hinges
fans
palm rest
mouse buttons
Anyone know the part numbers for these or could you reference me to a parts list or online site that would sell these parts?
i have had my like MB for just over a year...so my warranty just ran out. i noted that the top case has started cracking around the edge, and asking my friends and people who has the macbook, this is a pretty common problem. but mine is getting pretty bad.
Do you think Apple would send me a replacement topcase and if so, how much would it cost. i don't know if anyone else has had this problem and asked for a replacement.
I have the Dell XPS M1530 laptop, and of course the motherboard is fried.
The laptop is no longer covered by warranty, and I dont want to buy a new mobo from Dell, because they charge a ridiculous amount of money.
Where can I buy a new mobo with the new non-faulty Nvidia chip? I don't want to buy one of the original ones because it will just overheat from the chip and burn up again.
I'm thinking of modding my i9300 to accept a 1710 mobo-- if I buy a motherboard with integrated graphics, will I be able to add a graphics card later on and disable the integrated graphics through bios, or does integrated graphics preclude adding a card later on?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI think my xps9300gen2 might have some major promblems.
My battery went bad........got the bad battery flash code and the battery lights on back would light up funky.
I bought a new battery and the light isn't flashing anymore, system recognizes and charges it, BUT when I unplug the AC power to run on battery I get artifacts then system freeezes. I tried a third battery but it's the same deal. Won't run on the batteries
I fear it's the mobo.
Anyone delt with something like this?
My M1330 has developed the "ac adapter type unrecognised" problem which means a new mobo. But it may be. It's an early m1330 with the 633MHz FSB and 2.2GHz cpu.
Do you think Dell will be able to replace like with like? I'm rather hoping they'll give me a 2.4GHz with 800MHz FSB as replacement as that's the nearest CPU match without giving me something inferior.
Well dell came out and once again replaced the mobo today... making this the 3rd time this computer needed servicing... and to my surprise while test driving it today (after the guy left), the computer shut down after reaching over 100c on the ACPI temps...
funny thing is, i didnt smell anything burn, there was no heat at all, and everything seemed fine...
i unseated the heatsink and tried it again, sure enouh the same thing happened. the fan maxes out as soon as i start the PC, when it loads windows...
then once i get there, it completely stops... i mean the fan blade arent turning .....
so my i6400 came orig with 2x512 ram sticks, one per slot -- recently (i have it it 2+ years) i realized that i was having a RAM issue (BSOD + other windows errors pointed directly to this problem) and ordered 2 x 1 gig sticks of ram from
newegg...when i realized what the problem was i pulled out 1 of the 512 sticks and it worked fine -- without a problem
i recieved the 2 new sticks and put them in, tried to start up, no luck...
tried one stick, worked fine.
(turned off)
tried other new stick, worked fine
(turned off)
replaced the original stick, worked fine.
(turned off)
replaced orig stick #1 with the stick that i thought had died/was bad, worked.
(also dealt with the dell POST? diagnostics -- flashing lock indicators -- which told me there was a problem with the RAM).....
Just last week I got nice E6400. Since the first day of possession I observing that right side rest pad (on DVD drive side) getting quite hot, where you start feeling good amount of heat while typing.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust found this looking on ebay cuz my hand hurts from typing all day. Funny thing is, I didn't even include M1330 in the search.

This thing looks pretty thin and I'm wondering if it would even really help. It says "natural chamois leather feeling" but I don't think it would really reduce the contact pressure on my wrist. What do you guys think?
Also, would this leave an adhesive residue when it comes time to remove it? I'm sending the seller a message to try and clarify this.
I'm using a new Dell XPS 15. I have this laptop for about two weeks. Today is my first day trying to watch a movie on this laptop. Whenever I rest my hand on the hand rest or whatever you want to call it, the sound disappears. Must be design flaw.
