I have been playing Crysis on my laptop and it ran fine under XP with medium settings. After upgrading to Vista 32 and continuing my game it's running like a turd.
I come out from the Core section to where you are on the mountain covered in snow and the performance is so bad that it's virtually unplayable.
Anyone else had any issues? I need to know what the best drivers are to use and also the best setting in Crysis to get the most out of the game.
I just got my XPS 1710 from the dell outlet and looking for the bluetooth, and over all checking out the hardware, I found that my wireless card is a ABG but it has... 3 wires coming into the area, but only two connected.
Im wondering if during the refurb they gave it a new screen and the new screens all come with the 3 antennas instead of the old versions with 2? Can I score an N card and be all set?
I was just wondering if any of you have had any experiance with this. I feel the need to upgrade, as i have 4gb of ram and the ati graphics card, which means on 32bit, i can't use all my ram .....
My computer is out of warranty. On Thursday, my Dell Inspiron 1525 (bought in 2008) running Vista Operating System was working perfectly. No issues at all. On Friday morning, I went to turn on the computer and the 2 blue lights on the bottom left (the power and the one beside it) light up, the computer sounds like it is going to boot and then it beeps once and dies. It will continue to do this over and over every few seconds until I turn off the power manually.
I have tried the trick of taking out the battery and the cord, pressing the power button and then plugging the battery and cord back in, but it still did not work. The computer will not boot using just the cord (and not the battery) and vice versa.
how many people are running Windows 7 and/or Windows Vista on their MBP?
How's the performance of Windows on MBP through bootcamp? Any compatibility issue? I have a few software for PC (i.e.: Nikon Capture NX2, Lightroom, Photoshop CS4, etc.,) and would prefer to run it on Windows w/o having to rebuy it.
Mainly would use the laptop for those purposes, but MBP has that cool factor vs PC laptops heehhe
I might use it occasionally for games (i.e. WOW). Ofcourse surfing the internet on OSX is not an issue.
My xps 1710 with 7950 gtx (4gb ram) (100gb hdd) cant cope with battlefield 2 bad company 2 as am getting as like average 15 fps. Got drivers from dell that were updated 2 years back.
BF2 BC2 is set on lowest resolution with all setting at LOW!
What can I do to make this game play on this good fast laptop please.
I need disabling my touch pad. I have tried everything but the right way! Maybe it is not possible with this hunk of junk, but I can no longer tolerate it. Inspiron 1545 running Vista? Because every answer I have gotten so far, is from people who have something else and trying to apply the directions that they use. It doesn't work mine.
I am replacing the installed Seagate Momentus 160 gb 5400 SATA disk with a Seagate Momentus 320gb 7200rpm SATA hard disk as I need the extra space to hold my growing itunes collection and feel the extra speed would also be welcome.
I have the original Dell installation disks (Operating System, drivers etc), the installation disks for the subsequently installed software (other than the freebies including iTunes etc available on the net) and have backed up all my critical data to an external hard drive using the vista backup facility for subsequent restoration once all the software has been installed.
I will of course keep the 160 gb drive available with all it's data intact as a secondary safeguard until I have satisfactorily completed the installation and testing of the new disk.
I am following the instructions from the Dell Manual for "Dell Factory Image Restore""" It asks me for a Password which I have tried with my ID and password.... I'm not getting thru that point...
I've been trying to get Vista Ultimate to run on my laptop for a while now, and every time I install using a clean installation, it runs painfully slow. If i have more than one window open its not even worth using. So I always run back to XP and I'll be honest in saying that I'm quite bored with it.
how to make it run better with Aero?
My Laptop's Specs Are Brand: Acer Extensa 4220 CPU: Intel Celeron CPU 560 - 2.13GHz RAM: 1GB DDR2 Graphics: Moblie Intel GMA X3100
My cpu temps at idle according to HWMonitor are 70c for vista and in ubuntu using gkrellm they are around 60c.....why are they so hot? its on a wood surface + underclocked to 1v....
I lost wi-fi internet on my Inspiron 1545, running Vista (6 or so years old). The network adapter was showing up as not installed or not working. I tried returning to earlier restore point. No good. System restore no good. Finally I reinstalled the Vista OS from disk that came with the laptop. But still no network adapter showing in Device Manager. When I insert Resource CD, the WLAN mini-cards are showing up as installed on the system, but no sign of them listed in Device Manager.
So my question is: how do I install the network adapter, or get the system to recognize it if it's there? There is nothing on the resource CD called "network adapter" to install, and I don't see anything like that to download here on the Dell site. Any thoughts?
Oh, I ran the system diagnostics on the Resource CD. In addition to the battery needing replacing (which I already knew) I got the following:
Error code 4400:011A
Msg: SCSI-0-000_DISK_GENERIC_MULTI-CARD-Target not ready
I have an Aspire 9301awsmi with 1GB Ram running Vista HP. Been wondering whether it's worthwhile upping the RAM to 2gb.
1. Have used "Crucial" to see what they recommend. Would an upgrade work straight off and be recognised correctly or are any BIOS changes needed. Never entered the BIOS yet!
2. What sort of gains could I reasonably expect. The biggest slowdown I have is with FSecure and certain webpages ( Forums etc ) where the system can freeze now and then.
Would more RAM help here. Resource monitor shows FSecure as the culprit hogging the HDD. Start up from cold for the desktop to fully appear is around 3+ minutes with a further 3 or 4 minutes of pretty hard HDD thrashing when things are a bit unresponsive.
My Hp pavilion dv9000 is running Windows vista and I normaly keep the laptop in hibernation mode and when I turn it back on it does it normal stuff then it doesn't go to the login screen and it goes to the home screen but doesn't show anything. Then it switches of the whole Laptop! I think it is a OS problem.
MY laptop is a HP Pavillion dv5 1223TX, I was having issues so I did a factory reset via recovery manager, I have installed as many Windows updates as it has allowed, I am trying to download software that I was using before reset, like iTunes, Java etc, but I keep getting an error 'The windows installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed' I have tried various downloads to rectify this but to no avail.
I have a Pavilion dv7t laptop running Vista. One of the main reasons I bought this was to do audio work in Sony Acid Music and Sony Sound Forge. Well, lo and behold, I can't hear my mic input. I can record audio in using the mic input, but I can't monitor the input as I am using it to know whether it is too loud, too quiet, I am too close to the mic, too far away, etc.
I have done a lot of research on this via google searches and have found that most people solved this (on other laptops or other computers running Vista) by changing the input monitor setting (to enable it) within the windows registry. I dug all through various locations in my reg files and can't find anything on an HP Pavilion dv7t running Vista that corresponds with an input monitor setting.
This is a huge source of frustration. If anyone can let me know how to enable this, I would appreciate it. It's not a matter of right clicking on the speaker in the windows tray and changing anything on playback devices or recording devices. I have tried every possible combination of that and it doesn't work. This is something that needs to be fixed at a root level.
Why HP or Microsoft has this set as a default setting so you can't even monitor your input volume is beyond me.
I'm running a unibody MBP using bootcamp for Vista 32bit, when using Firefox, it crash/hard lock the laptop every so often couple times a week! I'm wondering what's wrong?? is it a known issue?? it doesn't happen w/ IE7. and Firefox is up to date.
I was just checking my wife's older HP Pavilion dv9628nr running Vista Home Premium with 2 HDD's. I didn't even know it had 2 HDD's. I opened the case to make sure.
Below is a screenshot of Disk Management for this system. I have some questions:
My friend as just bought an Acer Aspire Travelmate 5730 running WinVista.
We set up the laptop yesterday and burned 6 recovery discs in case anything goes wrong with the laptop.
I dont know much about laptops and with my pc ive always had the operating system on a cd so i could fix any problem using the cd.
This laptop as a 250gb HDD when i looked on the computer this HDD appears to have two partitions on it Cdrive that you boot upto then the other drive i think must be a back up drive.
The back up drive seems to take up 50% of the HDD this seems to be a large chunk of the HDD or is there somthing im misunderstanding here.
I also set up a wireless connection for this laptop there's no problem connecting to the internet while'st in the same room as the router but can't connect from a different room this defeats the object of a wireless connection.
I returned from a 2 week holiday to find that I could not logon to my laptop. During the time I was away the laptop was powered down. When I enter the correct password to logon I get: "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." message. I tried powering the laptop for 3 hours then tried to logon again but without success. How do I get around this?
Was toying with the idea of getting a 15" MacBook Pro, but as OneNote is a major application with me, dual-booting with Windows 7 like I'm running now, or using Parallels, is required.
What kind of battery life are you guys getting with Parallels / Fusion (or running Windows natively via Boot Camp)?
Well the singple player demo is due on friday, and nowhere on the internet can I find how it will run on my system. Whos getting it? This is one of the main reasons I forked out so much for this thing, so I hope it plays well, even if I do have to use DX9.
Id love to hear from anyone how it goes who ran the MP demo, or plans to get the SP demo when it arrives. On a M1710 - 7950 anyway.
I'm looking into getting the M1730 w/ X9000 (overclocking it to 3.4 Ghz), 9800M GT in SLi and 4 GB of RAM but I wanted to see how would it perform w/ the most demanding games out there i.e. Crysis and GTA IV.
if their settings and resolutions were maxed out. I know that X9000 is slower than the newer X9100 and QX9300 but is it gonna affect perormance a lot. Is it worth getting X9000 or is this CPU getting old now..
I still want a system that would be powerful enough for the next 2-3 years but I'm a bit hesitat to get the X9000. Can anyone let me know how those 2 games perform on the M1730 if the cpu is overclocked to 3.4 Ghz?..
I treated myself to Crysis on Friday night. What a mistake. OK, so I havent got a 3 way SLI rig, water cooled MOFO of a PC. I just have a 7950GTX, dual core 2.0 GHz 1710.
But boy, does Gears of War look amazing on 1400 resolution, so this is going to be OK.
I cant even get the thing running smoothly on low, never mind medium. I have even tweaked the system.cfg file to disable shadows etc. and it still runs like a Pig.
This is lazy programming in my opinion. To write a game that cant run on medium looking half decent, and with decent FPS is just pure lazy. They write this for the minority, not the majority. GOW on the other hand is excellent, they obviously used every trick in the book to get this to look amazing on reasonable spec PCs.
I could of course be wrong, and my computer is screwed...and you are all loving Crysis...in wihch case tell me your secrets!
By the way.....dont make a game that means every scene has 10 million leaves in it.....dont assume we are all millionaires
