Acer :: Aspire 9301awsmi With 1GB Ram Running Vista HP- RAM Upgrade

I have an Aspire 9301awsmi with 1GB Ram running Vista HP. Been wondering whether it's worthwhile upping the RAM to 2gb.
1. Have used "Crucial" to see what they recommend. Would an upgrade work straight off and be recognised correctly or are any BIOS changes needed. Never entered the BIOS yet!
2. What sort of gains could I reasonably expect. The biggest slowdown I have is with FSecure and certain webpages ( Forums etc ) where the system can freeze now and then.
Would more RAM help here. Resource monitor shows FSecure as the culprit hogging the HDD. Start up from cold for the desktop to fully appear is around 3+ minutes with a further 3 or 4 minutes of pretty hard HDD thrashing when things are a bit unresponsive.

I contacted Acer to get support on my product, which i bought back in March 2007, becuse when i tried to turn it on, the lights went on, and the cooler and harddrive started. But there was no reaction at all. My computerscreen was blank.
It was sent to their repair facility in Germany (I live in Denmark), and they returned the conclusion, that is was a liquid damage. After i got the pictures form Acer, to show evidence on this liquid damage, I decided to return it, because i didn't want acer to repair it, since it was out of guarantee. They wanted to replace the motherboard and keyboard to a price of apx. 400 euro.
About a month ago, I finally succeeded in disassembling the computer, due a damage Acer has made on one of the screws. I examined the hole chassis and motherboard, and concluded that there has been a tiny drop of water on my chassis, but my motherboard looked perfect. I found out that Acer had resized the picture massively, so that the damage looked bigger than it actually was.
I called Acer support, to clear this problem by getting the proper evidence. First I heard the staff member read something on English, written by the man who examined my computer. After that, she said that there was not such a document, because it has already been deleted, because the case had been closed, in which i disagreed.
I have several times tried to clear this problem out, but without luck. After my own examination of the computer, I think it’s not the motherboard which is defect, but the processor, since there is power on the motherboard. A new Athlon 64 x2 processor only costs 40 euro, which I would be willing to spend if that’s the problem (original processor is an AMD Turion 64 2.00 ghz). Would that conclusion be plausible?

My friend as just bought an Acer Aspire Travelmate 5730 running WinVista.
We set up the laptop yesterday and burned 6 recovery discs in case anything goes wrong with the laptop.
I dont know much about laptops and with my pc ive always had the operating system on a cd so i could fix any problem using the cd.
This laptop as a 250gb HDD when i looked on the computer this HDD appears to have two partitions on it Cdrive that you boot upto then the other drive i think must be a back up drive.
The back up drive seems to take up 50% of the HDD this seems to be a large chunk of the HDD or is there somthing im misunderstanding here.
I also set up a wireless connection for this laptop there's no problem connecting to the internet while'st in the same room as the router but can't connect from a different room this defeats the object of a wireless connection.

I've run the Win 7 upgrade adviser and it says the system can run Win 7 as it has CPU 1.6 Ghz and 2.0 GB of RAM. However in the device section it says that the Mobile Intel (R) 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family is not compatible - driver not compatible with Windows 7 . Is there a driver I can download to fix this problem? I've checked the Intel download web site but can't determine whether a driver exists or not ??

Recently done a clean Vista install and installed "NVIDIA chipset drivers" from Acer support site. It's on a 9301AWSmi
I now get as optional updates in Windows, two Nvidia updates.
1. NVidia NForce Networking Controller (May 2009 published)
2. NVidia NForce Hyper transport bridge driver update (Oct 2008 published)
Is it wise to accept these or not... I know a lot say never accept driver updates via Windows.

I've been trying to get Vista Ultimate to run on my laptop for a while now, and every time I install using a clean installation, it runs painfully slow. If i have more than one window open its not even worth using. So I always run back to XP and I'll be honest in saying that I'm quite bored with it.
how to make it run better with Aero?

I just bought this new acer 3680 1 month ago because i needed a laptop for my studying. basicly all i need it for is to take notes from classes, and surf the web (youtube etc).
ok so basicly the first impression with preinstalled vista was horrible. incredible lag... 3 seconds delay at all times when browsing the web. and completely unable to playback any form of media with any other windows open without the sound lagging like crazy... all that kind of stuff
but the main problem seems to be the fan. It runs at high speed (producing as much noise as my desktop computer). The fan turns on aprroximately 4 minutes after you turn on your computer, or immediately after you open an application.. and it just keeps on running untill you turn off your computer... It is so annoying that i have trouble bringing the computer to class (which is where i really need it!) because i feel embarrased about the noise, and frankly i think this is an annoyance to the other students aswell. Is this a common problem with 3680? No one of the other students pc's fans run when they just use basic applications like word, or internet explorer, and they certainly dont do it when simply idling on the desktop.
furthermore it needs to be said that i have messed around with vista alot, and tweaked it in every possible way to remove pressure of the cpu.. and ofc removed all antivirus programs etc. Furthermore i tried installing XP, and guess what.... it took 5 mins of idling on the desktop in the brand newly installed xp for the fan to start again!!! so i conclude that the problem is not caused by vista overloading the cpu!. Does anyone else have this problem with their aspire 3680? maybe im just overly sensitive about the noise, but really it isnt supposed to run at all times.

Bought this notebook on Oct.30/14.  Used it this past Friday; was working fine.  Plugged it in for the night and the next day, I noticed the fan was running and I wasn't able to boot it.  It won't shut off using the power button on side.  The only way to shut it off was by using a paper clip on the reset on the bottom of the notebook. Â

I'm guessing I did this to myself somehow but I can't figure out how to fix it. It originally came with Visa but I downgraded to XP and had been using it without problems for awhile. It started getting a little slow so I recently installed (and soon after uninstalled) a bunch of optimizing / driver updating programs. After playing around with those, my laptop is running super slow... I can't watch videos, the buffer causes it to just show the image while the audio plays... After running Dr. Hardware it looks like my CPU is only running at 800mhz which is a lot slower than it used to.

Has anyone done this on an Acer laptop? I recently bought a 5515 for my parents and after seeing all the bloatware that came on it I figured I'd do a clean OS install. I backed up the CD Key using the ABR utility and backed up all the drivers. I then started the new OS install and get all the way to "completing installation" and it sits there spinning for a good 20-30 mins before it freezes. I tried the 32 bit version first followed by the 64 bit and had no luck either try. I eventually reinstalled the factory settings using the recovery disc.

Firstly I apologize if this has been asked earlier, but I couldn't find an answer to my question. I have a 1530 on order. The OS will be Vista Premium x86. There are 2 things I need to do-
1. Upgrade the HD from a 5400 to a 7200, I have the HD.
2. Install Windows Vista Business - I have an original retail version, and I absolutely need this.
I have the Vista Business Retail DVD. What I want to do is have Windows and the dell partitions configured exactly as they came with the original computer, only with Vista Business, and on the new hard disk. I don't want to alter Media Direct, or delete the restoration partition. Everything should be the same except the Windows Versio

So, as you can see, the computer can be turned on, but it doesn't get through the acer screen on to the windows picture, and it automatically reboots and shuts itself down again over and over again. This has happened in the past, but the repairers have reset the operating system and BIOS. They also switched the hard disk for a new one, but this could be because of some other problems I was having (USB channels weren't working).
Everything worked fine for a month or so, and then it happened again. I myself am thinking about the motherboard being damaged.When this happened in the past however, I was still able to turn on my PC sometimes, so I was also able to save my files. Now on the other hand, I can't get the computer on anymore. The most important thing to me is saving the files. After that, I'll take it away for reparation again, where they will probably delete everything again (I can't commicate with the repairers myself, so I can't discuss terms or anything).

At the end of the vid you can see me turning off the computer by pulling out the adapter. Removing both the adapter and accu is the only way the computer can be turned off. Even shutting it down by pushing the on/off button for 5 seconds will not prevent the auto re-boot.

Microsoft Update returns an error that the update service is not running. I check the services, and see that it is running.

I have changed the Windows power settings so that when I close the lid it goes into hibernate mode. However, when I open the lid it does not start the laptop and restore from hibernation. I have to open the lid and press the power-on button and then it restores from hibernation.

I have a much cheaper Toshiba Laptop that just automatically starts and restores from hibernation when I open the lid. As far as I recall there were no special settings that I changed in order for the Toshiba to work like that, just the setting in the Windows power option that permits hibernation when closing the lid. The Toshiba run Windows 8.0.

Given I'm supposed to be running OEM Windows 8.1 shouldn't 1 of the first 2 partitions say OEM?

If that is so I know what I've done and it will probably require a recovery disk to set things straight (i.e. recover the original Acer version of Windows 8.1). This is a follow-on from a previous post where I foolishly installed an evaluation copy of Windows 10 instead of running it using virtual software (which is what I usually do with these things) - I can't remember for sure but it's likely I installed it by formatting the whole disk and probably wiping the OEM partition.

I do have a system image taken a few days before I installed W10 but suspect the OEM wasn't included...which is what is displayed above after I reloaded it.

My Aspire V3-771 is a little over a year old now. I don't know much about computers, but i do enjoy several pc games, and watch a lot of streaming videos. when doing so my computer almost always shuts itself off, even while running games that could hardly be called graphic intensive. I'd thought it might be an overheating issue? but i don't think that's the case.Â
I've also noticed that, within the task manager, the disk will often jump to 100%.

Again, for months after i bought the machine, it worked perfectly fine. many of the programs that it used to run, now cause it to shut down without warning.Â

how many people are running Windows 7 and/or Windows Vista on their MBP?
How's the performance of Windows on MBP through bootcamp? Any compatibility issue? I have a few software for PC (i.e.: Nikon Capture NX2, Lightroom, Photoshop CS4, etc.,) and would prefer to run it on Windows w/o having to rebuy it.
Mainly would use the laptop for those purposes, but MBP has that cool factor vs PC laptops heehhe
I might use it occasionally for games (i.e. WOW). Ofcourse surfing the internet on OSX is not an issue.

I am having an issue with my Acer Aspire V5-431P-4653 running Windows 8.1, namely, I cannot adjust the screen brightness at all. It seems to arbitrarily select a brightness level upon start up and from that point I cannot change it via the Fn and directional keys or through the control panel power settings. I have owned the laptop for a year and a half and this problem began roughly a week ago.Â

Of note, when I attempt to use the Fn and directional keys the brightness icon that pops up stays at the frozen brightness level - it does not move at all. In contrast, when I open the power settings and attempte to change the brightness from there, the brightness slider will move wherever I drag it, but the screen's brightness itself does not change. At startup the screen's brightness may be at full, minimum or somewhere in between - but regardless it will not adjust.

I'm having major problems with connecting to the wireless network in the office. It sees the network, allows me to enter the security credentials, then connects (with confimed internet connectivity) but drops out after 10-20 seconds. I have tried the wireless network at a friend's house which worked ok without any interruptions, so it is definitely nothing wrong with the hardware. I'm using a brand new Acer Aspire V3-572-56T3 on Windows 8.1, with all the latest drivers/patches loaded and have tried fiddling with many of the advanced settings for the network adapter to no avail. I logged on to the router to ensure all settings, encryption standards, channels etc. were matching but the problem keeps persisting. This has been ongoing for two days now and is driving me insane as I really need to have wi-fi working in the office. Plugging an ethernet cable straight into the router works fine but it's not the ideal solution (and is posing an OH&S hazard as it is laying on the floor).

I have an Acer Aspire 5741-5698 running Windows 7. Â I never want to connect to the internet wirelessly. Â I only want to connect rarely with a wired connection. Â I can disconnect the wireless by pressing Fn+F3 but I never see a "Launch Manager". Â The problem is when I turn off the computer and turn it back on, it defaults to connect wirelessly. Â I went to Manage Wireless Networks in Control Panel and selected Manually Connect to my home Network. Â That did not work. How can I stop it from connecting automatically wirelessly? Â

With all the hand wringing folks have been doing about the lack of drivers for a clean install of Win7 I thought I'd jump in to the deep end of the pool with my FZ190 and investigate an alternative. My good friends Rajesh and Dr. Pratik have done clean installs of Win7 on FZ models, but I decided to take a different approach... the "dreaded" OS in place upgrade. Partly out of curiosity, I wanted to see if it would work, but mainly because I have a ton of software that would need to be reinstalled, if I did a clean install. That would mean days or weeks of inventorying every thing I have installed, digging up installation media and then installing all the stuff. I just don't have the spare time. So...
This past weekend I imaged my C: drive (all my data and I mean ALL my data is on D:, I am a fanatic about that). MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR C: DRIVE BEFORE YOU TRY AN UPGRADE! I ran the Windows 7 Update adviser and it said I had some issues:

I have also tried disconnecting from network and turning off wifi from the signal strength icon as well prior to shutdown. When the adapter stays open when I return to the laptop and connect again it shows that i have been connected via the adapter for days at a time. This eventually leads to the connection being clogged up and causing timeouts preventing me from connecting to the net. I stopped ittwice but dont know what I did.
