Acer Aspire 1691 :: Can Upgrade WLMi Running XP To Windows 7
Sep 5, 2014
I've run the Win 7 upgrade adviser and it says the system can run Win 7 as it has CPU 1.6 Ghz and 2.0 GB of RAM. However in the device section it says that the Mobile Intel (R) 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family is not compatible - driver not compatible with Windows 7 . Is there a driver I can download to fix this problem? I've checked the Intel download web site but can't determine whether a driver exists or not ??
I newly installed Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 1644 WLMi laptop. It did not pick up on the sound card, Wlan card and VGA. I tried the Acer website but their support is only for XP.
how i could obtain the drivers or have a work around?
I have an Aspire 9301awsmi with 1GB Ram running Vista HP. Been wondering whether it's worthwhile upping the RAM to 2gb.
1. Have used "Crucial" to see what they recommend. Would an upgrade work straight off and be recognised correctly or are any BIOS changes needed. Never entered the BIOS yet!
2. What sort of gains could I reasonably expect. The biggest slowdown I have is with FSecure and certain webpages ( Forums etc ) where the system can freeze now and then.
Would more RAM help here. Resource monitor shows FSecure as the culprit hogging the HDD. Start up from cold for the desktop to fully appear is around 3+ minutes with a further 3 or 4 minutes of pretty hard HDD thrashing when things are a bit unresponsive.
I have an Acer 5003WLMi and I would like to add 1GB of memory. I did a crucial scan and they recommended some memory, specifically the DDR-PC2700 1GB CT478616. Now, I was ready to buy it, but on Amazon I did a search for DDR-PC2700 memory and found another 1GB DDR-PC2700, this time with part number CT12864X335. Given the sensitivity here, I would like reassurance, so is there any difference in these two parts and is it okay to buy the memory from Amazon, or should I just buy the one Crucial recommended?
I got a small problem with my Aspire laptop, it apears a small green line on my tft screen from the top of the screen till the bottum.. if i push or pull the screen a bit forward or backward the green line disapear sometimes.
I allready checked the connection plug from the tft to the mainboard it fits well,i try to open the screen itself (remove the plastic cover) but it dont seem to work there are 4 screaws located on the front side of the screen i removed them but the plastic cover dont open so i can check the cable connection inside and i dont want to break it ... so i prefer to asked the pro's
how i can open the screen , i mean the plastic cover without damingen the tft?
I have an ACER Aspire 5002 WLMI. The LCD Monitor has a black virtical strip down the right side. I have connected a exsternal monitor and it works great.
So my question is...is it the graphics card, motherboard or the lcd monitor?
I'm trying to find the correct drivers for the above laptop. I found this thread How To's: Acer Aspire 5672 , but it seems some of the links no longer work.
This system had XP Home originally and the HDD died. I installed a new HDD and want to install XP Pro, have disk, and do away with all the Acer stuff.
I've already performed a clean install once before of XP Pro, but wasn't able to find the correct drivers for several pieces of hardware. I'm in the USA. Is there even an Acer USA? I can't seem to find the drivers at Acer.
I have my original backup disk that I created using Acer erecovery and an XP pro install disk.
Right down to the matter at hand. Yesterday I was working on my laptop, plugged in, but charging, about 40%, when all of a sudden it shuts down. I wasnt doing anything overly stressful, CPU's were each at about 50% load tops (Ubuntu 8.10, mysql, apache2, rythmbox, firefox, opera, some file browsers, pidgin).
My initial thought was that the power supply adapter had gone - thus it was draining whilst i worked and i hadnt noticed (since the connector is a little worn). I noticed that the little green light was blinking rapidly on it. However when I unplugged it from the laptop, it returned to its static green state.
I went to remove the HDD today as i had to get my work from it, so I thought I would try to start it up anyway. Nothing. Whilst removing the HDD i noticed an occasional clicking (3 little consecutive clicks to be precise, as if it were trying to start but just couldnt. This happened a few times, until I removed the battery, then it stopped. I can replicate this by turning it on and it will keep happening until I remove the battery.
Also I have gone inside, attempted to clean any dust off and cleaned the battery contacts, so it is unlikely to be anything like that.
I know its an old laptop these days and sometimes these things die, but this thing has been my baby. I learnt to code on this thing, I learnt Linux on this thing and I'm not giving it up without a fight.
So my g/f has bought this laptop from her brother for £100 and upon this he did tell us the battery is dead and the charger he is using ins't the official charger but the laptop works.
Upon getting the laptop I decided to try and make the battery last longer by discharging and charging it a few times fully, but this has just completely stopped the batery from working, fullstop.
So now I am having to run it off the power supply solely.
I have ordered a new battery from ebay and made sure it is the correct battery by checking the model of the laptop, model of the battery and not only that it's £15 cheaper then getting it from shops.
Dispite all that I still need to get a charger for this model, so I found one on ebay which said it was for the 5000 series but not my model, I emailed them and they confirmed to me that it wouldn't work for my laptop.
So now I am on the lookout for a charger for this laptop 5003WMLi but I don't know the model number for the charger so if anyone has an official charger for the 5003WLMi can they please post the model number so I can look for a cheap official charger.
Or if anyone knows what watt, voltage I need then I could perhaps get a charger to suit my needs................................
I have an Acer Aspire 5652 WLMi. I've just bought a new battery for it but when I insert it to the laptop after it starts it says "This is not an acer battery please check your battery" and shuts off. Also it doesn't seem to charge because the little orange light flashes instead of staying on. Do you know if there is a hidden program that doesn't allow new batteries?
I recently sold my Aspire 5002 WLMi notebook to a friend who changed too many settings and mussed up the BIOS in record time.... 10 days. I got most back by using a restore point but noticed he had a BIOS password requirement for booting up. I went to change that and set the new password with blank fields....save and quit....reboot....
...and whoops. Neither does a blank field nor his old password work now. in hindsight, I recall it was odd how some of his BIOS options had been greyd out and realized he must have a supervisor and another BIOS password. Swears he doesnt remember what he did. Now, we're locked out with 3 tries and error code 00000.
I removed the CMOS battery but unlike desktops I've messed with, I cant find any jumpers or marked pads to short out. Read somewhere that Acer now uses some form of flash memory. I cant find any documentation on this and Acer hasnt answered my email. Most of their sites dont even list this version of laptop. I bought it in Amsterdam at the end of 2005 but their Netherlands site is only in Dutch, a language I cant begin to decipher.
Anyone have ideas on this or possibly a motherboard schematic with lables? I looked at lists for Acer MB's and theres not a single number printed on here that resembles those lists I found.
My old Aspire 1690WLMi runs Windows 7, but can`t run Aero cause it has an integrated graphics card. Hard drive space is super tight since it`s only 80gb. Thinking of getting a new laptop around $1000, but also considering just getting a new 320gb hard drive for $100. What do you think i should do - new laptop or new hard drive.
I own an Acer Aspire 5742, model no. PEW71. It is running on Windows 7. I included a vid for you to see what the problem is: [URL] .... Â So, as you can see, the computer can be turned on, but it doesn't get through the acer screen on to the windows picture, and it automatically reboots and shuts itself down again over and over again. This has happened in the past, but the repairers have reset the operating system and BIOS. They also switched the hard disk for a new one, but this could be because of some other problems I was having (USB channels weren't working).
Everything worked fine for a month or so, and then it happened again. I myself am thinking about the motherboard being damaged. When this happened in the past however, I was still able to turn on my PC sometimes, so I was also able to save my files. Now on the other hand, I can't get the computer on anymore. The most important thing to me is saving the files. After that, I'll take it away for reparation again, where they will probably delete everything again (I can't commicate with the repairers myself, so I can't discuss terms or anything). Â At the end of the vid you can see me turning off the computer by pulling out the adapter. Removing both the adapter and accu is the only way the computer can be turned off. Even shutting it down by pushing the on/off button for 5 seconds will not prevent the auto re-boot.
It still did not solve the issues with my USB ports. I have noticed that the exclamation mark is no longer there but still all my USB ports are still not working.
I have a problem with my laptop and it's spdif optic output. I want to connect it to my hi-fi but I am having trouble with enabling digital output. I just don't know how to do it
In my Realtek Mixer there are options only for analog outputs - no digital options at all. I use now the newest drivers, 1.70 or 1.77 - nothing. I've tried older versions, something like 1.30 and then spdif flashed red colour and I thought that it will be OK, but nope. Still no sound and no digital options in Realtek's mixer. On these new drivers (1.7x) it doesen't ever light up.
Someone here said that one cannot acutally see the LED inside blinking, well... I can see it As I told before on older drivers it's "on" all the time - althou no sound.
In the other topics I've read that one has to change default output to digital output - I see no such option, if I am just blind and retarded then someone posting a screenshot would be nice
I have changed the Windows power settings so that when I close the lid it goes into hibernate mode. However, when I open the lid it does not start the laptop and restore from hibernation. I have to open the lid and press the power-on button and then it restores from hibernation. Â I have a much cheaper Toshiba Laptop that just automatically starts and restores from hibernation when I open the lid. As far as I recall there were no special settings that I changed in order for the Toshiba to work like that, just the setting in the Windows power option that permits hibernation when closing the lid. The Toshiba run Windows 8.0. Â Does this model Acer have this feature? If so, how do I set it up to work?
I'm seeing the following:  600 MB Healthy (Recovery Partition) 300 MB Healthy (EFI System Partition) 449 GB Healthy (Boot, Page etc...) 15.5 GB Healthy (Recovery Partition)  Given I'm supposed to be running OEM Windows 8.1 shouldn't 1 of the first 2 partitions say OEM?  If that is so I know what I've done and it will probably require a recovery disk to set things straight (i.e. recover the original Acer version of Windows 8.1). This is a follow-on from a previous post where I foolishly installed an evaluation copy of Windows 10 instead of running it using virtual software (which is what I usually do with these things) - I can't remember for sure but it's likely I installed it by formatting the whole disk and probably wiping the OEM partition.  I do have a system image taken a few days before I installed W10 but suspect the OEM wasn't included...which is what is displayed above after I reloaded it.
I have an Acer Aspire 5634WLMi with 2 years. Got a problem on the monitor (15.4-inch LCD CrystalBite).
It slowly started a year ago (at that time still had warranty but underestimated the problem and now it expired). In all the black images(movies, photos) began to appear some green fluorescent dots that looks like they are living (in English I think is called flickering spots, jaggies?!) which then disappear and come back. I did not care at first because both appeared to disappear. Over time there have appeared more, followed by purple dots now. These purple dots are never in black image but sometimes they are the shadow of the black image. But in videos with very dark black only come green dots (always flickering). In all the other colors there is no problem, for example I am writing this in Word and the blue and white of this image is not green. It is however in my opinion a little blurry, I do not know. The letters are black (with a slight green Halo) but it seems that they aren’t standing still and shake a little. The most strange is that on the desktop there is a pattern of green dots on the bottom left and a purple on the upper corner that are often there but sometimes also move around. In fact there was not so long ago a time when I got a perfect image. I began to think that the laptop went to very warm, open a part, cleaned the fan and reduce the processor speed by changing the temperature of the device. After a while it disappeared. But this improvement lasted only 1 day. Then it began all over again. I have also tried to connect the computer to another monitor and had a perfect image, so it seems that it is not the graphics. On the Internet I found many of these reports that the cable that goes from the graphicscard to the monitor is damaged and that a simple substitution leads to full restoration of the notebook. Anyway before attempting to open the laptop (I've been watching some videos of how to do) like to have another opinion from someone who realizes this. I already took him ah repair but wanted 250 euro to replace the monitor with dead pixels (which I think is wrong they are not all dead, and until very squiggly and alternate location). For 250euros rather buy a new though economically not good for me. When the computer has a completely black image is all green. For example when the screensaver comes with the ball moving from one place to another.
I am having an issue with my Acer Aspire V5-431P-4653 running Windows 8.1, namely, I cannot adjust the screen brightness at all. It seems to arbitrarily select a brightness level upon start up and from that point I cannot change it via the Fn and directional keys or through the control panel power settings. I have owned the laptop for a year and a half and this problem began roughly a week ago.  Of note, when I attempt to use the Fn and directional keys the brightness icon that pops up stays at the frozen brightness level - it does not move at all. In contrast, when I open the power settings and attempte to change the brightness from there, the brightness slider will move wherever I drag it, but the screen's brightness itself does not change. At startup the screen's brightness may be at full, minimum or somewhere in between - but regardless it will not adjust.
I'm having major problems with connecting to the wireless network in the office. It sees the network, allows me to enter the security credentials, then connects (with confimed internet connectivity) but drops out after 10-20 seconds. I have tried the wireless network at a friend's house which worked ok without any interruptions, so it is definitely nothing wrong with the hardware. I'm using a brand new Acer Aspire V3-572-56T3 on Windows 8.1, with all the latest drivers/patches loaded and have tried fiddling with many of the advanced settings for the network adapter to no avail. I logged on to the router to ensure all settings, encryption standards, channels etc. were matching but the problem keeps persisting. This has been ongoing for two days now and is driving me insane as I really need to have wi-fi working in the office. Plugging an ethernet cable straight into the router works fine but it's not the ideal solution (and is posing an OH&S hazard as it is laying on the floor). Â FYI I have run diagnostics several times & the one thing that stood out was this: Â Diagnostics Information (Wireless Connectivity)Association status: Fail 0x00038002Association reason code: 0x00000002 Result of diagnosis: Problem foundIssue referred to: RNWF MSM Helper ClassRoot cause: Windows could not connect to "ERICSSON"You can try to connect again. Result of diagnosis: Problem found
I have an Acer Aspire 5741-5698 running Windows 7. Â I never want to connect to the internet wirelessly. Â I only want to connect rarely with a wired connection. Â I can disconnect the wireless by pressing Fn+F3 but I never see a "Launch Manager". Â The problem is when I turn off the computer and turn it back on, it defaults to connect wirelessly. Â I went to Manage Wireless Networks in Control Panel and selected Manually Connect to my home Network. Â That did not work. How can I stop it from connecting automatically wirelessly? Â
my question is about the empty mini-pcie slot inside the 5102wlmi. I plugged in a sprint novatel e725 wwan card, but windows doesn't detect anything. Is there a modded bios that detects it?
I have an HP Pavilion 15z p000 with Beats Audio running Windows 8.1. Â I want to upgrade the memory (RAM), but I don't see any access panels on the underside of the notebook that would make it easy to change the memory cards. Â I didn't find any diagrams or instructions in the user manual, and I haven't found any way videos on the internet. Â I'm pretty handy with computers and upgrading hardware, so I'm not afraid of taking things apart and putting them back together.
I am trying get Windows 7 installed on my 1410 but since there is no optical drive it is a real pain. Got windows 7 installed by doing a clean install using a usb drive. Now the problem is I cannot install the Acer software and drivers that acer included on their upgrade disc. I tried running the program from my external hard drive but that does not work since it says to insert the disk. ...why can't they make it easier? All the applications and drivers are on the disk but I have no idea which to install since the disc contains files for all their models. Why would acer not make thier upgrade disc a download or something for their computers without an optical drive?
I have an Acer Aspire 5920G running Vista Home Premium that it came with preinstalled.
Now I'm itching to make the switch to Windows 7, but apparently the 5920G isn't on Acer's list of compatible computers, which has me a bit apprehensive... However, I've run the upgrade advisor and it gave me just a few minor concerns, which leads me to my question:
If I upgrade to Windows 7, will my recovery partition still be intact, enabling me to revert back to the factory defaults with Windows Vista if need be?
I have a Aspire 6930G, I want to upgrade to windows 7, from Vista. But this laptop came with Vista recovery CD's so the drivers are on those CD's can I still reformat and just put the drivers CD inside and reinstall them after I've changed to windows 7? By the way, I want to completely format the Hard Drive before I do any of this...
I am having a Acer E1-571 windows 8 laptop. Since after a recent upgradation to windows 8.1 my wifi is showing limited connectivity. But other devices connected to this router (D-Link) is having internet. My wireless adapter is Broadcom 802.11 adapter.
I have an aspire 5251-1513 with win7 home premium 64bit OS. It came with 2 gig and I'm trying to add a 4 gig memory stick. Win 7 recognizes it now has 5 gig, but won't use the 4 gig. I've tried find a place in bios to make a memory change but can't locate any place to do that. I've tried use the new 4GB stick by its sleep but the laptop won't boot up then. How to get win7 to use this memory?
