Acer :: Aspire 5920G Upgrade To Windows 7

I have an Acer Aspire 5920G running Vista Home Premium that it came with preinstalled.
Now I'm itching to make the switch to Windows 7, but apparently the 5920G isn't on Acer's list of compatible computers, which has me a bit apprehensive... However, I've run the upgrade advisor and it gave me just a few minor concerns, which leads me to my question:
If I upgrade to Windows 7, will my recovery partition still be intact, enabling me to revert back to the factory defaults with Windows Vista if need be?

I have a problem with the bios upgrade on my Aspire 5920G.
I have downloaded from Acer's site the 3813 version and i try to use it with winphlash, the program that is in the folder when i unzip.
I have always an error message, the one in the printscreen.
Yes, i have opened the program with administrator privileges, the same message pops out.
I think that the problem is that i have Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

i installed windows 7 on my 5920g, however, i don't know what to do with empowering technology. Although launch manager is suggested by acer to be installed the other applications are not listed as compatible with windows 7..
I did download them though, and installed them, but at enet communication manager i got a message about known compatibility issues...So i wonder, if there is a compatible version, or if i can use a version of another laptop that originally came with win7 and if so ,which one..?

I was wondering if anybody would be able to help me with a little volume problem i'm having.
I recently installed Windows 7 RTM. Everything was working fine including the volume control. Then one day i booted the laptop and was unable to control the volume using the volume dial on the front of the laptop.
Some information:
>The volume dial hardware is working fine because when i boot into Vista there are still no problems
>When i turn the dial, the volume does not change either up or down
what drivers control the volume dial or as to what software may be required to make it work again?

the 8600M GT is getting a bit dated now and I'd like to upgrade it to something friendlier if possible. where would I look for an MXM II GPU that would work with the current cooling solution that the 5920G has? I know the same thermal specs are necessary cause it can't do better...and with just the 8600M GT, playing COD4 multiplayer gets it so hot I have to stop cause the keyboard is too hot to touch!
I've got 2x2GB SODIMM"s to drop in to it...easy access to a the new Penryn series CPU's...just want a better GPU. something NOT DDR2.

I recentely purchased a 9500M GS for my Acer 5920G to upgrade from my 8600M GS. Now I have read the sticky regarding what cards can go in the 5920G and the 9500M GS is listed as one of them. The problem I am having though is that when I plug the card in and boot my machine, I get no display.
Now, this is what I have tried. I have tried to get a backup of the BIOS on the 9500M GS so i can use Nibitor to identify what it is. I followed the VGA flashing guide to where it says about restoring the BIOS blind but my laptop doesnt seem to boot at all i.e. setting the first drive to USB Key does nothing as the light doesn't blink.
I have tried putting my system BIOS back from the latest version (3813) to previous ones (3811, 3805) and even the default one my laptop came with (3708). Again this was to no avail. My 9500M GS still wont boot.
So this leaves me to this conclusion. The cards BIOS must be from a different vendor, and I imagine it would be ASUS. Is there any possible way I could get this card working in my system.

i'm a 3D artist and i have a pretty good workstation for doing all my projects, however, lately i've been meeting with clients at their offices and need to bring whats now MY notebook (it used to belong to my wife, hehehehe) but i definitely need to upgrade it to do on-location updates to my 3D scenes and shaders..

My 5920g (NO problems for TWO years!) deserves an upgraded hd.
What would you recommend? I currently have the WD 5400 RPM 160GB. 500GB is what I'd like.
Should I stick with WD? I'll sound like a noob saying this, but SATA2 ain't a problem for me?

My laptop is a 1.5ghz C2D, 8600M GT DDR2 256mb (ARGH no ddr3), 160gb 5400RPM 8mb cache, with 2gb DDR2 667mhz...
yesterday, I got a 2GB Stick, (meaning I will have 3GB under Windows Vista 32-bit), and a 7200RPM 16mb cache harddrive (320gb fujitsu) to be exact.
I saw the processor upgrades, and I kept hearing it's fine for gaming unless I'm going to do heavy video editing, photoshopping do it, but do memory upgrade first, and I kept hearing HDD upgrade helps with everyday flow of operation (faster overall, meaning load up, booting, etc).
Will I see a decent performance/noticeable amount?
So now, it's 1.5GHZ C2D (T5250), 8600M GT DDR2 256MB, 320GB 7200RPM 16MB CACHE, HD-DVD/DVD-/+RW, 3GB DDR2 667MZ.
My next on the lsit is upgrade CPU to T7300, and if I can, upgrade the graphics card.
Maybe Bluetooth add-on since my phone can support syncing with that junk.
So yea, T7300, and maybe Radeon 3650 ddr3 or 8600 ddr3

I am kind of frustrated with the DDR2 Performance that this machine pulls.
I might upgrade my Laptop to 3GB DDR2 RAM, and a different MXM Graphics card. (Type II)
Where can I get an MXM II card that will work on my laptop? I heard you need to flash, but I hear some models you don't and I have to take in the thermal into account.
I am looking to play Call of Duty 4, and so on.
is the X1900 compatible? I would rather get 8600M GT DDR3, but that might be too expensive.

I already upped the RAM to 3GB but it doens't seem to do all THAT much.
The computer feels rather sluggish under Vista. I've taken down A LOT of software, services etc... but to no avail. That and it's pretty established that Vista's just not great.
I have the version with the 8600GT GPU, stock 2GB RAM (now 3) and the T7300 Core2Duo CPU.
I'm looking to get rid of the some of the lag, get a smoother system... I may need more power and therefore to upgrade the CPU but that may be expensive... :/?

Or something like letting the X-FI chip doing all the work , processing etc. and lead the output through existing onboard audio.

I am trying get Windows 7 installed on my 1410 but since there is no optical drive it is a real pain. Got windows 7 installed by doing a clean install using a usb drive. Now the problem is I cannot install the Acer software and drivers that acer included on their upgrade disc. I tried running the program from my external hard drive but that does not work since it says to insert the disk. ...why can't they make it easier? All the applications and drivers are on the disk but I have no idea which to install since the disc contains files for all their models. Why would acer not make thier upgrade disc a download or something for their computers without an optical drive?

I have a Aspire 6930G, I want to upgrade to windows 7, from Vista. But this laptop came with Vista recovery CD's so the drivers are on those CD's can I still reformat and just put the drivers CD inside and reinstall them after I've changed to windows 7? By the way, I want to completely format the Hard Drive before I do any of this...

My graphics card takes more than 700 MB from the RAM memory.

I just acquired an Acer Aspire 5920G with NVidia GeForce 8600M GS.
I opened the back cover to see what it looks like and it looks like the graphics card is replaceable. It’s an MXM-II card in 73 mm x 78 mm dimensions.
I’m planning to replace the graphics card and I have couple questions.
Does the motherboard or the system support Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 MXM – II or Nvidia Quadro FX3600 512 MB MXM II?
How do you upgrade the CPU? I unbolted all the bolts on the heat sink but the frame is in the way and I can’t slide the heat sink assembly out as simple as I thought it would be. Does the mainboard support X9000 extreme CPU?
Is there a link to a manual where it shows how to break apart the laptop? I might change the screen, etc.
Is it worth putting the 5920G on steroids with X9000 cpu and Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 or Nvidia Quadro FX3600?

I've run the Win 7 upgrade adviser and it says the system can run Win 7 as it has CPU 1.6 Ghz and 2.0 GB of RAM. However in the device section it says that the Mobile Intel (R) 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset Family is not compatible - driver not compatible with Windows 7 . Is there a driver I can download to fix this problem? I've checked the Intel download web site but can't determine whether a driver exists or not ??

So after packing up my comp at a friends house my comp is kinda dead, it was alive before I left my home and everything was fine then.
When i try to start it the cpu is flickering for a bit then freezes so i dont se any bios or anything.
The blue tooth and the lights to the right of the key board are lit to and I have no idea what to do.
Ive tried my old ram mem sticks, pulling out the battery and trying without it, trying a new hard drive, checking for loose cables inside the comp, checking for dust and screaming at it but nothing works.
I talked to some friends and they suggested something called flashing the bios but I have no idea how to do it and I dont know if it will work since i cant se the bios start up screen before it freezes.
I have called acer but they basicly told me to send it in but i dont know if i have any varenty left on it so I rather try to get it working on my own before sending it in if I still got varenty on it.

I believe that my Acer Aspire 5920G was getting too hot, so I checked the temps:
CPU: 81C
GPU: 73C
HDD: 55C
I'm afraid those temperatures are too high. I don't understand why this happens! I don't play games that much now, I have cleaned the laptop's fans recently and I have the air-conditioner on all the day to keep the room with the laptop cool.
What can I do to decrease temps? I don't want to spend money, because I'm having problems with that laptop and my 8600M GS might die soon...

I don't think the issue is physical as under Audio Properties => recording I get response from the 'VU' meter there. However, I am simply not being heard across skype or BF2/OFP VOIP. It's not the levels, which are set to maximum, I've installed the latest realtek HD drivers, and skype is set to 'windows default device'
Windows sound recorder works, although not very well.

If I close or open the Display part of the screen and or all of the screen turn's black and or blue shortly, it flickers more or less. On some positions I don't get any flickering at all, but if I just slowly open it and adjust the viewing angle it tend to apear and disapear.
Also I can reproduce it if I slowly and very gently touch the top edges of the lid and slightly push on one side and pull on the other. Not much, just a bit. Also if I put a little pressure on the left bottom side of the screen it tend to get this flickering.
Black & Blue are not the only problem, sometimes the screen turns black all of the sudden and white stripes apear on the right side / partly left side and it looks like the display is burning in, it slowly gets white and the effect moves slowly to the middle of the display. Also an indicator for that problem is that part of the pixels on screen get blue and or flicker blue. Then bigger parts bet blue and so one.
The usual open / close / adjust viewing angle works to make this disapear for a while.
Also 3D extensive games and HD movies seem to cause this problem.

I have an aspire 5251-1513 with win7 home premium 64bit OS. It came with 2 gig and I'm trying to add a 4 gig memory stick. Win 7 recognizes it now has 5 gig, but won't use the 4 gig. I've tried find a place in bios to make a memory change but can't locate any place to do that. I've tried use the new 4GB stick by its sleep but the laptop won't boot up then. How to get win7 to use this memory?

My Acer Aspire 5920G appears to have 'died' and I thought I'd try here before contacting Acer. Despite being under warranty, Acer have found loopholes to charge exorbitant fees every time something goes wrong.
the 2.5 year-old laptop was working perfectly last night. This morning, I opened it and:
T: Pressed power button
T+2secs: DVD drive clicks on, hard drive spins up, everything seems normal
T+5secs: NumLock light flashes, but visible POST/BIOS *does not appear*. The screen never shows anything.
T+8secs: Hard drive is still on but ceases activity. Operating system is not loaded.
(I took the timings at a subsequent attempt, but every attempt follows the same pattern)
I've tried:
- running from battery, AC and both
- reseating the memory modules
- replacing and removing the hard drive
- booting with a boot disk in the DVD drive
- booting with an external monitor attached
to no avail. From this end, I'm not sure what else I could try. Clearly there's no 'good' time for a laptop failure, but this is a pretty terrible time, so I was hoping to avoid Acer spending 6 weeks deciding how many hundreds to charge me.

Very often, when my 5920G boots, it changes from the native 1280x800 resolution to 1024x768. Because of that, the icons mess up and I have to change the resolution and then put the icons back at their place.
There is roughly 75% chance this will happen when my laptop boots.
Adding this with my other problems makes using this 5920G a frustrating experience!
This started happening months ago, when I reformated the laptop the problem had gone, and now it reappeared.

I have ordered this laptop recently (Spec is below), well, it's due to arrive tomorrow, and am probably going to upgrade to Vista x64, or at least give the new Windows 7 x64 a go on it. However, I'm just unsure as to whether it will be easy enough to migrate or whether I'm likely to have issues finding drivers for the relevant hardware. I hope someone here can give me some advice as attempting to scour the internet for a response for this particular model has been a nightmare, I've found the drivers page but it's all a bit confusing with seperate 64bit and then SP1 sections! ...
