Apple :: Unibody MBP Running Vista/bootcamp, Firefox Crash All The Time
Mar 20, 2009
I'm running a unibody MBP using bootcamp for Vista 32bit, when using Firefox, it crash/hard lock the laptop every so often couple times a week! I'm wondering what's wrong?? is it a known issue?? it doesn't happen w/ IE7. and Firefox is up to date.
I recently noticed that my firefox finds a reason to crash on its whim most often than it was during the pre snow leopard era. Any one knows the reason why it does or how I can pin point the problem it happens next time?
Just bought new MacBook Pro after about 15 years of using Windows machines (first experience with Macs was in aerospace when for a time there they used Macs almost exclusively.) Very nice. Even nicer I've found that I don't need BootCamp for Windows applications .. don't miss them at all! For office-type applications just use NeoOffice and Photoshop does a Mac version, too. It's great just to be able to get on a computer and do work rather than spending time (sometimes lots of it) trying to figure out how to make the thing work better or even work at all.
I want to put Win7 on my macbook pro and plan to use it with VMWare 3 as well as for dual booting. Is it better to go with the 32bit or the 64bit version of Win7.
Im running snow leopard on the macbook now... i know Apple isnt officially supporting win7 until later this year but has anyone else had any problems running Win7 under bootcamp on snow leopard?
what is the battery life of your macbook pro on bootcamp? i want to compare it to that of windows 7 as i will be doing heavy programming during my second year at uni. i want to know what will be better, vista or xp. i currently have w7 rc. i wanted to purchase it but i do not know when it will be released. therefore i wanted to go with something more stable.
I'm running Windows XP (32 bit) on Bootcamp on my 2008 MBP with nvidia 8600m GT graphichs card. I cannot select my external monitor to be the primary monitor because it's grayed-out (I can't select it where it says 'use this monitor as my primary monitor').
I just went onto nvidia's website and downloaded the latest drivers and installed them. No difference. Anyone know how I can achieve this?
1) Is it normal for the battery to take several hours, i.e. 4+, to fully charge after being mostly depleted? For example, my battery says it's like 95% charged, yet has 40 minutes to go.
2) Is it normal for the battery time-left indicator to jump all over? When I run it on battery, the amount of time remaining constantly changes. It goes from 5 hours to 3 hours to 4 hours, etc, etc.
The first time I ever used the computer when I got it in December I charged it up fully, kept it plugged in for several hours, then let it completely die out overnight and fully charged it again.
Does the battery really last 8 hours? Also should I wait and buy the new release in a couple of months or should I buy the current one? How does Vista run in BootCamp? My old MacBook Pro died a few weeks ago.
After an install of XP & windows 7 and use of a silly program to ramp the fans up; I've actually found that Vista is the best one for the job and actually ramps the fans up automatically, which means I can play games!
Finally then, it solves my problem, as partly why I got the macbook was to run windows, but was gutted when even if it was doing nothing, the heat coming off of it was really hot to touch.
I am installing the oem version of vista home premium 64 bit on my brand new macbook pro. I use bootcamp assistant to create a 60gig partition, insert my vista cd to start the install, use advanced options to let vista convert format to ntfs.
I followed the steps/guide exactly and everything goes fine. The system goes through installation but when does its first reboot and comes back to the install screen it errors on the step that says completing installation. It remains on the completing installation step for a few minutes and then an error comes up the says "Windows cannot configure one or more system components. To install windows restart the computer and restart the installation."
how many people are running Windows 7 and/or Windows Vista on their MBP?
How's the performance of Windows on MBP through bootcamp? Any compatibility issue? I have a few software for PC (i.e.: Nikon Capture NX2, Lightroom, Photoshop CS4, etc.,) and would prefer to run it on Windows w/o having to rebuy it.
Mainly would use the laptop for those purposes, but MBP has that cool factor vs PC laptops heehhe
I might use it occasionally for games (i.e. WOW). Ofcourse surfing the internet on OSX is not an issue.
Was toying with the idea of getting a 15" MacBook Pro, but as OneNote is a major application with me, dual-booting with Windows 7 like I'm running now, or using Parallels, is required.
What kind of battery life are you guys getting with Parallels / Fusion (or running Windows natively via Boot Camp)?
I've installed Flip4Mac and I still can't listen to music that's using the WMP plugin on Firefox. I can't see the play, pause, etc. controls on the website. Sometimes, the music would play, but most of the time it won't. If it does play, I still can't see the controls for it.
I was using firefox but it kept crashing last night, I uninstalled it and reinstalled bt it kept doing the same thing, any suggestions? I have the mbp with 2gb ram, 250gb hdd, 2.4ghz cpu.
I have a macbook pro (tiger, late 06 version), and firefox seems to cause some kind of overload. I mean I have a 2.16GHz processor and 2GB memory, how the does it have so much trouble running a simple application like firefox?
how to get ALL my data from firefox to safari? (Passwords, History, Bookmarks, Cache...etc) I tried foxmarks but that doesn't bring all my data.
Usally when you start a new browser it ask you if you want to import any thing. But Safari 4 didn't. If I can't do this I will not switch, witch suck because I hear it's good.
I guess this should be filed under Apple, since I'm using OS X. I keep getting pop under adverts with firefox, is there a way to prevent them in firefox?
This afternoon, I erased the hard disk of my Macbook Pro 13'' with the idea that I had carefully saved all data on my external hard disk. After OSX Leopard was installed, I attempted to restore my Firefox profile to only find out that I had copied the wrong data to my external hard disk. Namely, the Firefox cache data instead of the profile itself.
The Firefox cache data can be found in 'user name' -> library -> caches -> Firefox -> Profiles, whereas I apparently should have copied the profile that can be found in 'user name' -> library -> application support -> Firefox -> Profile.
Now it seems that I didn't format the system properly as there are several files in the trash bin that I deleted before I erased the hard disk - even though I did erase the disk through the Disk Utility.
Therefore, I want to know whether there is any possibility to retrieve the profile that I need in order to restore my bookmarks/configuration for Firefox.
i am trying to play a video on this page: [url]but it says that i am missing a plugin, and when i click to search for the plugin it show me flip4mac, but it doesnt say it supports FF.
my x230's fan is most of the time running full speed, and returns to regular (almost no noise level) for only a few minutes.I just got this x230 for less than a month and i notice this since most of my colleagues' laptops are all the time quiet compared to mine, which is a lot newer than theirs.Later on I will try the Full HW scan & see how it goes.
