Anyone know of a good screen protector/scratch protector for the 1340? Not the case, but for the screen itself? It would be awesome if someone made an antiglare screen shield....
what about those clear bumper/riser things that keep the screen from being scratched while it is closed by the keyboard
I've seen them on the forums before.......anyone have a link .....
Just bought the 3521 Inspiron touch screen. Two questions:Does the touch screen require a screen protector? Many different answers. Would like your opinion! The outside cover shows fingerprints (even with clean hands). Can the outside cover be replaced to a different color or type (that doesn't show fingerprints)?
Is anyone using one? I know that companies like invisibleshield do custom sizes and there are a lot for the xps 1330 bu I wasn't sure how it would look because of the edge to edge screen!
I have the following problem. I have set a power plan to automatically adjust the brightness when the laptop is on AC power and when it's on battery.
It works fine if I don't turn it off. When I turn it off while it's on battery power (screen dimmed) then when I turn it back on it "forgets" the settings for the AC power and copies over the "dimmed" setting.
In short: I need to manually set the brightness every time I come home from school and start recharging the laptop.
Does anyone's screen dim itself every now and then? I don't know if it's a defect in the screen or maybe a bug in Quickset or something else, but occasionally my screen just dims a few levels.
Quickset shows it still maxed out and lowering it a notch and raising it back up using the keyboard shortcuts makes it go back to normal.
It started about a week ago. All the sudden I went to pick up my laptop while it was open and the screen just shut off.
The computer was running, but the screen wouldn't come back on. I tried closing it and opening it and it didn't do anything....so I turned it off and back on and it would flicker light in the bottom right hand corner but no image would appear.
Then eventually, after I kept trying it just started working again like normal until yesterday when I was watching a video and all the sudden it just shut the screen off..
I have a wired problem on my 1340 using windows 7 64bit. From time to time, not sure when but when Im on windows (desktop, surfing with firefox etc..) the screen suddenly turn black, I dont see anything thou the laptop still runs normally - if I press ctrl + alt + del, I do see the menu that lets me choose all the basic options but when I exits it I still see black. This problem solves itself after a min or two and I see everything back to normal - If I was installing something then the install just finishes (the computer works normally during this, its just the screen). When this problem happens something the screen flickers, I see windows back for a sec and then black again - and after a few times its back to normal. Anyone knows how to fix this ? Its quite irritating.
I have a Dell Studio XPS 13 (1340) and when i switch it on the power lights etc come on and the screen is blank. After a while it shows the Windows desktop and the laptop is ready to use but I cannot see the DELL logo at start up or am I able to get into BIOS. However when I plug the laptop to an external monitor it displays the LOGO properly and I am able to get into BIOS.
I have a Dell Studio XPS 13. Laptop is about 3-4 years old and everything was fine until yesterday. I was working on my laptop and suddenly my screen went white and the laptop shutdown after a few seconds (3-4) and it smelled like something burned down. I tried to power it on after few minutes and it went on, the hdd signal lamp was blinking but when the display should show the dell logo the computer shut's itself down.
im looking for a keyboard overlay, you know like screen protector for my keyboard, there was a link to purchase them off ebay months ago but its now a invalid item.
where I can find a "TPU" keyboard protector for the Sony Vaio VPC-Z (EU model?). The only one I can find is on eBay but it's only for US models (different enter button) so won't fit... I know this keyboard is really going to become shiny quick because it really holds onto oil badly. It's a lovely keyboard to use, but it really picks up oil a lot more than my older Z21.
I have a problem with the Finger Print Control Centre, in that I cannot open the application. I can open 'Edit Fingerprints' (User Enrolment) and other menu items, but not 'Start Control Centre'.
This is the same if I select from taskbar, from start menu, from windows explorer (ctlcntr.exe) and also if I run it as administrator. I have upgraded the Protector Suite to version 5.8.2 but am not sure if this is the cause. I have downgraded back to 5.6 (Sony version) but the symptoms are the same.
The application flashes briefly as if it is opening but closes again immediately(less than 1 second).
The only bit of the problem driving me nuts is the inability to open Control Centre, as I want to change some settings.
Disclaimer: If I am breaking any forum rules by posting links of ebay or my flickr site, I apologize in advance. I am also in no way affiliated with this user selling the item and do not take any form/type of credit from the seller. I am simply a customer on ebay reviewing a product I have purchased.
After reviewing a lot of complaints about the chassy/keyboard/wrist-rest scratching the screen, I simply had to get a screen protector for this really expensive investment. I've purchased all kinds of screen protectors from ebay and only found one that does not burden me with negatives. I wanted to make it seem as though there is NO screen protector on my screen. So I purchased the below and boy was I surprised.
(I removed the ebay link, just to avoid breaking forum rules, so instead, search "Anti-Glare Screen Protector 13.1 SONY VAIO Z Series")
I purchased two of these. Because if I screw up with one, i'll have a backup. Fortunately for me, I was able to put this one my screen with only ONE tiny bubble, which is on the corner of my screen. Everything was flushed and fit perfectly...
So I had the Upek fingerprint reader on my old M1530 and loved it but the new SXPS 1640 I have only came with the Facial Recognition and it blows. I was thinking about getting a upek usb fingerprint reader and buying the PS software, but I was wondering if it will run fine on my system and whether or not it would be worth it?
I just ordered a XPS 1340 fully loaded P9600/LED/4GB/Nvidia 256/256GB SSD/BT option.
I used my Dell credit card (logon to Dell.com/DPA5PERCENT)(evalue code 6M278-DYPDFP1)to get 5% plus a $150 gift card.
I started with a chat then they called me. After humming and hawing the rep was unable to to a better deal than my saved cart. I said thanks anyway but its out of my budget.
Is it true that XPS 1340 has a lot of problems? I was thinking about buying x1340 but many people including this forum are complaining about heat problems, fan noise and other hardware failures
well i have a dell latitude e6400 from the outlet and all of a sudden a ton of xps 1340s came in stock and i got a good one and im debating on whether i should keep i buy it or not and return my e6400.
so i was wondering how do u guys like it? how long does the 6 cell last and does it overheat alot? and do u personally think its durable and will last as long as my e6400?
I just talked to dell via a chat and they said that I cannot upgrade to anymore then 4GB of ram which I currently have. I looked at the specs on the build site and the Ram are all SDRAM at the same 1067 MHz. Am I missing something?
I just bought this new laptop and it froze on me during inital set up and dell had to reimage it on the phone with me. Now that I have it where I can use the machine after about an hour of web surfing it seems like the bottom is pretty hot and near the vent is so hot you could not hold your hand there. I was thinking of calling dell back and talking to them about it. Are other people experiencing a lot of heat with this computer?
I own a studio xps1340 with intel (p8600) 2.4 core 2 duo.
I want to upgrade my processor but i dont know if there are any faster than p9700 (2.8).... Whats the fastes processor with most cache available for xps 1340 motherboard?
I see the 1640 models have option for T9900 (3.0ghz) will this one fit my motherboard sockets or not?
I have an XPS 1340 on order, with the g210m graphics card. I have been reading about this computer, and while performance seems good,
I am starting to freak out a little bit about the heat issues people are reporting, even recently and with the new g201m.
I owned a laptop once with heat issues, and I don't want to go back to the bad old days of lockups and crashes related to heat.
I am thinking of canceling my order (or returning it if I can't), and getting the Vaio SR with the HD4570 graphics card.
What do people think of this as an alternative?
I lose the backlit keyboard and small amount of potential graphics performance, but also lose heat issues, fan noise, and potential problems related to the SLI configuration.
