Dell :: Stock 80GB WD800BEVS Vs WD3200BEKT Scorpio Black Benchmarks

Nov 11, 2008

Just replaced the stock 80GB WD800BEVS drive in my E6500 with a 320GB 7200rpm WD3200BEKT Scorpio Black.

Here's the before and after benchmarks which basically doubled.

Other than doubling the ram to 4GB it's the best $90 upgrade I've made to the E6500 so far. Vista flies with this thing

Acer :: Replacement Drives >80GB In Extensa 6602WLMi

Aug 17, 2009

My trusty Acer Extensa 6602WLMi is giving a "SMART Failure Predicted" warning at boot so it looks like I'll have to fit a new hard drive

The current drive is a WD800UE 80GB and my BIOS is 3A28.

Does anyone if there are any BIOS limitations stopping me fitting a new 120GB, 160GB or 320GB drive? I'd like to fit a new 320GB drive if possible

HP/Compaq :: Intel X25-m 80GB SSD Drive In My 2 Year Old DV7t

May 18, 2010

A great friend of mine got me an intel SSD drive for my bday. I installed it into my dv7t (replaced one of the two 500GB drives I had in there) and installed Win7 onto it.

I don't know if it's just me, but this drive FLIES! true, the bootup time did not change drastically (~50 seconds from the second i press the power button). however, from the second i click shutdown, my laptop is fully powered off in 7 seconds!

for kicks, i copied my 33gb itunes folder to the SSD drive. i launched itunes and had it "import" my 7,000+ songs - this took less than 3 minutes! as the top of itunes says "song 1 of 7,000".... "song 2 of 7,000" etc, this literally flies so fast you can't read any of the song titles. i had my 33 gigs of music imported in less than 3 minutes! i could not believe that.

even copying files to a usb drive is much quicker. I am able to copy a 4GB ISO file onto an external hard disk (not powered) in about 2 minutes. the copy is amazing - right when the copy starts, the SSD drive says it's transferring at over 600MB/sec! it then comes down to the 80-120mb/sec range.... why oh why can't it stay steadily at 600mb/sec!

anyway, just sharing my experience. IE loads as soon as you click it, msword loads in a second or 1.5 seconds roughly. the drive was about $250 w/taxes+shipping and i did notice a boost in many areas like i've mentioned.

i play unreal tournement 3 and the game play seems much more fluid now. going between menus is much quicker as well......

Acer :: 9410z WD Scorpio Troubles

Feb 6, 2010

I took some of your advise and grabbed a 250gb 7200 wd scorpio black hd. I am however having problems getting it to run on the Acer 9410z that it is going into. First of all, i have populated the board with the max 2 gb ram , i am looking for the T7200 / T5600 cpu and I grabbed this hd for the 7200 rpm side of things, as the drive never gets populated over about 75gb.

Well it is not only running slow, but it is also locking up randomly on large data transfers. I have only to guess that the 3.0 is causing issues with the 1.5 interface.(WD does state that there is an auto translate function built into drive) I am using windows 7 32bit, which until the hd upgrade seemed to manage ok, however wow ran slow.

Acer :: Aspire 5536 And WDC Scorpio Blue Temps

Dec 19, 2009

I just got an Aspire 5536 and I'm running some diagnostics on it. While running SpinRite to test the drive I'm seeing HDD temps as high as 58°C!

This is a WDC 320 GB Scorpio Blue drive rated with a maximum operating temperature of 60°C and it's in a brand new machine sitting on the desk (so the vents are clear).

Isn't this ridiculously warm for this laptop? Does anyone else have the laptop (or the WDC 320 HDD) that can give me some comparison numbers?

HP/Compaq :: Enabling Write Caching On Western Digital Scorpio HD

Jan 6, 2009

I have an HP DV2700 laptop (core 2 duo T5450 @1.66Ghz, 2GB of ram with vista home premium 32-bit).

I have a Western digital scorpio 250GB HD at 5400 rpm (WDC WD2500BEVS) and I am having some trouble enabling the write catching (and in extension, advanced performance mode.) I have tried accessing device manager and selecting 'enable write caching on the disk' however the policy does not persist once i apply the change. Despite my disappointment, this was to be expected since the comment 'this device does not allow its write cache setting to be modified' can be seen underneath the option. Being a tweaker of sorts with regards to vista, I was certain there is a way to allow such modifications to take place.

As an aside, I wanted to know whether enabling these policies would decrease spin up time? More specifically, decrease the amount of heat emitted from the hard drive. Of those who own DV laptops, this is an understandable request, seeing as the base of the laptop, under stress, becomes uncomfortably hot.

Apple :: Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB 5400RPMHeat

Jun 16, 2009

I fitted the above HD into my Macbook Pro unibody a fair few months ago and it generally works great, I was even more impressed at how easy it was to install as I'm by no means a computer expert!

Anyway, the one niggle I have is that my Pro is running hotter, so much so that instead of a niggle I am a little worried.

It seems to be worse when I am running programs with the Apple OS but also using Windows XP with Fusion. The heat is a worry but the noise of the fans is just plain annoying. Prior to fitting this hard drive I never heard a peep out of the stock 250GB drive, either from the fans or the drive itself (as an aside, I can hear the new drive, but its quiet and not a problem). Likewise, it never seemed to get hot.

What confuses me is that the heat doesn't come from the area where the drive is. As you look at your laptop during normal use, the hot part is to the rear left of the base (i.e. the keyboard part).

I notice that Apple have 500GB drives available as an option on Macbook Pros now, does anyone know what make these could be? Also, does anyone have any experience with these yet?

Dell :: Artic Silver 5 Vs. Stock Cooling

Oct 1, 2008

i did some tests before and after applying artic silver to both my cpu and my gpu, here are the results:

Stock cooling temps :

GPU max: 81C
CPU0 max: 75C
CPU1 max: 76C

( the photo was actually incorrect, as i found it was from when i was testing overclocking setups )

then i opened up my lappy and applied some AS5:
CIMG0676.JPG
CIMG0677.JPG
CIMG0679.JPG

and finally my temps are with the new AS5:
temps artic cooling.jpg

( wut? them CPUs are the only ones feelin it :P )

now the air that goes out of the vent is really hot, this did not happen with the stock dell cooling paste.

i just applied it, so should take 200 hours to take full effect

*Update*

After about 190 or 200 hours of use, my temps are really the same... i dont know if it could be winter, because in winter my house gets a bit warmer.. i will, however, try to get to the same room temperatures i had back then and do the stress test

*Update (again )*

After removing and re-applying the AS5, i found out what i was doing wrong:

1- i did not put enough AS5, it needed a bit more for the heat assembly to have perfect contact

2- i did not put enough pressure on the GPUs screws because i was afraid of breaking it

After doing this i find that on the first stress test i get 3 or 4 C lower temps ( from 82 to 79 C ) il do some more stress tests and update the temps.

Dell :: M1730 Benchmarks Please

i was wondering if anyone has the dell m1730 can run some benchmarks.

it doesn't matter if it is stocked overclocked or whatever.

just post up your system specs and if you are overclocked (if so please state your clocks if you do not wish to give out your clocks, just say ""max overclock")

if you don't know what to benchmark, here's some stuff you can do.

also can you please tell us your settings on the game when you run it.

i have been searching but it's dead and the owner's lounge is way to big to search every page. it doesn't matter what gpu/cpu you have. as long as you state what you have.

Dell :: Unexplainable Benchmarks

Feb 19, 2008

I recently unlocked my 7900GS (in my inspiron 9400), and have it running comfortably at 450/1100 @ 1.24v ...

By comfortably I mean the MAX temp under full load (using ATITool Find Max Core) is 78C
(which I know is high, but this is a stress test afterall ... it would never be running this streseed under normal circumstances)
with 0 artifacts over 4 hours of running ATITools ...

I went to benchmark with 3dMark 06, and my score is 2551 ... WTF?

Now, I am a vista (x32) user, and recognize there has been evidence that graphics performance under vista is slightly lower then in XP ... but 2551? Thats a ridiculously low score

I ran 3dmark with no tasks running at all, and when I as afk

Does anyone have any clue why my 3d mark score is so ridiculously low?

If its of interest to anyone, i'm using Forceware 173.65 drivers from the good folks at laptopvideo2go (with the modified INF)

And my laptops specs of relevance are: T2550, 2gB @ 667
