Apr 10, 2010I've order a Alienware MX17 r2 and return it within the 30 days return policy. First it's very heavy my wife can hardly lift it up never mind carry it around then I don’t really play games that much It had only one video card with the 920 processor the only think I liked it was the screen 17’ LED RGB So after reading some info regarding the Studio XPS 16-47 I returned the Mx17 and order the 1647 with RGB LED (not received as yet) the MX17 r2 cost me $3500.00 mean time I got refunded only $ 3150.00
Dell took 10% from me $ 350.00 I’m pretty P_OFF that it is a lot of money I’m not a rich man I’ve returned another laptop before within the 30 days and Dell give me a full refund. When I called customer care and complain I was told that the finance department would look into and it would take 3 business days before I should call back.
I’ll be calling on Monday or Tuesday and if Dell it’s not going to refund me the rest of my money I don’t know what I should do next if tell them to stop the order of my new Studio or what Even if I do that I’m out of $ 350.00 with no computer. I'm not too bad with computers, but I'm struggling to understand how my Radeon HD 4570 gpu, which came with the Dell 1555 I bought last week, is showing up on DxDiag as having 2280mb of memory? The Dell specification said that I had bought the 512mb version of the 4570...
Can someone explain this? What basic fact have I misunderstood?

I just found this ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 with 512 MB discrete graphics for up to 2280 MB of dynamically shared memory allocated by the system Can someone explain this a little more for me? Does this mean that when playing a graphic-intensive gain the system could use more than 512? Thanks!

Jan 20, 2009I've heard that the 32bit Vista is limited to only 3Gb of RAM. I've got the 8930G and it's installed with 4Gb of RAM. The system detects the 4Gb. My question how can have the 32Bit Vista detect the 4Gb in the Task Manager without changing to Vista 64Bit?

Sep 22, 2007Any driver I install other than the Dell driver for my 7950GTX gives me a blue screen of death. I use the Driver Cleaner/CCleaner approach. I've even reformatted to see if it was some operating system anomaly. I know there's a DLL you can delete to make it work, but I'm not willing to give up the control panel.

Oct 1, 2008i did some tests before and after applying artic silver to both my cpu and my gpu, here are the results:
Stock cooling temps :
GPU max: 81C
CPU0 max: 75C
CPU1 max: 76C
( the photo was actually incorrect, as i found it was from when i was testing overclocking setups )
then i opened up my lappy and applied some AS5:

and finally my temps are with the new AS5:

( wut? them CPUs are the only ones feelin it :P )
now the air that goes out of the vent is really hot, this did not happen with the stock dell cooling paste.
i just applied it, so should take 200 hours to take full effect

After about 190 or 200 hours of use, my temps are really the same... i dont know if it could be winter, because in winter my house gets a bit warmer.. i will, however, try to get to the same room temperatures i had back then and do the stress test

After removing and re-applying the AS5, i found out what i was doing wrong:
1- i did not put enough AS5, it needed a bit more for the heat assembly to have perfect contact
2- i did not put enough pressure on the GPUs screws because i was afraid of breaking it
After doing this i find that on the first stress test i get 3 or 4 C lower temps ( from 82 to 79 C ) il do some more stress tests and update the temps.

For some time my BIOS (v0.3636) shows 4094 MB of Total Memory (RAM). But I remember that I had earlier exactly 4096 MB.
So, 2 MB disappeared somewhere. Why and is it any way to get them back?

Feb 26, 2009I am having a problem with my HP dv9000. Last week the hp total care advisor show poor battery. When I ran the hp test for it, it said to replace the battery and gave the warranty code. Anyways, I purchased a new battery and received it yesterday. As soon as the total care advisor came up again, it still said that it was a poor battery and needed to be replaced.
I thought that it may be a software issue with the hp total care advisor, so I ran a system restore back to factory defaults and reinstalled all of the updates, SP1, and it still shows the same thing. Is it possible that I got a bad replacement battery? The battery I was replacing was just 14 months old as well.

Here's the before and after benchmarks which basically doubled.
Other than doubling the ram to 4GB it's the best $90 upgrade I've made to the E6500 so far. Vista flies with this thing

Jan 18, 2009I just updated my Acer Aspire 5735 notebook from 3gb DDR2 to 4gb DDR2. The bios now detects 4gb total as does Vista's System Page (Control Panel/System in Ultimate 64bit)
However when i go to task manager/performance my total physical memory shows up as 3000MB and the Physical Memory Usage graph seems to reflect this 3gb total.
Is there something I need to do to get vista to detect and utilise the 4gb total?

Feb 9, 2013my laptop vostro 3460 won't boot any more. When I turn it on it loads the Dell logo (I suppose it passes the POST) but then it just shows a black page. It could be anything, but I guess that it may have something to do with Windows 8 and the UEFI system. I also would be quite happy to install linux mint and get rid of Windows, but I don't know how to change the boot priority order.
So my questions are:
