View 8 RepliesI need HP Total Care Advisor for Vista x64. I need it to check my battery health, cause HP needs it in order to replace my battery. They need the warranty ID or something, that only Total Care seems to provide.
Anyone care to upload it or point me towards the direction?
I am having a problem with my HP dv9000. Last week the hp total care advisor show poor battery. When I ran the hp test for it, it said to replace the battery and gave the warranty code. Anyways, I purchased a new battery and received it yesterday. As soon as the total care advisor came up again, it still said that it was a poor battery and needed to be replaced.
I thought that it may be a software issue with the hp total care advisor, so I ran a system restore back to factory defaults and reinstalled all of the updates, SP1, and it still shows the same thing. Is it possible that I got a bad replacement battery? The battery I was replacing was just 14 months old as well.
It's been since the DV6000t that I looked at battery & notebook technology.
From then I believed to cyccle the battery a couple times and store it out of the machine @ around 60%.
Is it still so? Will just plain leaving it in the machine all the time plugged in shorten the life or effciency? Or have things progressed?
Short summary of the problem:
Bought a very costly HP laptop around Sep 08
Experienced heating problems from around Dec 08.
Dealt with their customer care to get it returned or replaced in Jan – but they simply would do nothing for it.
Heating problem as got worse. It turned off due to over heating with just windows and 2 windows of Firefox and a streaming video.
Trying to understand the options I have now. So people who have had similar experience with HP customer care, PLEASE tell what can I do now.
Reading the expanded version below will give a lot more insight to my problem.

I've heard that the 32bit Vista is limited to only 3Gb of RAM. I've got the 8930G and it's installed with 4Gb of RAM. The system detects the 4Gb. My question how can have the 32Bit Vista detect the 4Gb in the Task Manager without changing to Vista 64Bit?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've order a Alienware MX17 r2 and return it within the 30 days return policy. First it's very heavy my wife can hardly lift it up never mind carry it around then I don’t really play games that much It had only one video card with the 920 processor the only think I liked it was the screen 17’ LED RGB So after reading some info regarding the Studio XPS 16-47 I returned the Mx17 and order the 1647 with RGB LED (not received as yet) the MX17 r2 cost me $3500.00 mean time I got refunded only $ 3150.00
Dell took 10% from me $ 350.00 I’m pretty P_OFF that it is a lot of money I’m not a rich man I’ve returned another laptop before within the 30 days and Dell give me a full refund. When I called customer care and complain I was told that the finance department would look into and it would take 3 business days before I should call back.
I’ll be calling on Monday or Tuesday and if Dell it’s not going to refund me the rest of my money I don’t know what I should do next if tell them to stop the order of my new Studio or what Even if I do that I’m out of $ 350.00 with no computer. Hi,
I'm not too bad with computers, but I'm struggling to understand how my Radeon HD 4570 gpu, which came with the Dell 1555 I bought last week, is showing up on DxDiag as having 2280mb of memory? The Dell specification said that I had bought the 512mb version of the 4570...
Can someone explain this? What basic fact have I misunderstood?
Thansk,
EDIT:
I just found this ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 with 512 MB discrete graphics for up to 2280 MB of dynamically shared memory allocated by the system Can someone explain this a little more for me? Does this mean that when playing a graphic-intensive gain the system could use more than 512? Thanks!
Have spoken to Dell today and they have the nvidia7950gtx in stock at the moment.
if anybody is intrested!
so if your under warrenty and need one nows the time
I have Acer Aspire 7730G.
For some time my BIOS (v0.3636) shows 4094 MB of Total Memory (RAM). But I remember that I had earlier exactly 4096 MB.
So, 2 MB disappeared somewhere. Why and is it any way to get them back?
I just updated my Acer Aspire 5735 notebook from 3gb DDR2 to 4gb DDR2. The bios now detects 4gb total as does Vista's System Page (Control Panel/System in Ultimate 64bit)
However when i go to task manager/performance my total physical memory shows up as 3000MB and the Physical Memory Usage graph seems to reflect this 3gb total.
Is there something I need to do to get vista to detect and utilise the 4gb total?
I use the laptop with it plugged in 80% of the time and do my best to ensure the laptop is cool. I dont do any gaming on it, but do watch quite a few films (with it sitting on a basket so there is a good few inches underneath to prevent over heating.
After all of this i have lost 40% of my battery life, which i find horrendous. If this keeps up ill have to replace it 18months after buying my laptop. I intend to call Dell over this ASAp but in the meantime i want to know what i can do to preserve my battery life.
Should i leave the battery plugged in all the time, i do move the laptop round quite a bit, so having the battery there to save myself from shutting it down etc would is usefull to me.
I am carefull over the operating temperatures and i very rarely 'stress' the laptop. I could also count the number of times the battery has been left to drain
what is VAIO CARE? is it necessary for me to have it or can i uninstall from my notebook?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI followed the instructions in the guide to condition the battery where I charged it up for fully drained it and charged it again and left it plugged in for the 5 hours, how often should I do this
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I purchased my notebook I only bought the next business day warranty can you still buy the complete care warranty if you are within the 21/30 days of purchase?
I spoke with one person at Dell they said it had to be bought at the time of purchase?
i have complete care but my 1420 is already 3 years old...is there anyway i can get dell to give me a new one or will they only fix the lid?
ive never talked to dell but maybe if im really nice they give me a new one and not just fix the lid?
I've had a ton of problems with this one in the past, from a cracked case (still cracked) to a dvd drive that doesn't work (dell didn't do anything, I didn't stay on them,) to a bunch of other problems.
Any way to get them to just replace it? I've had it for ~2 years, with another year left on my warranty.
I have been getting pissed with my Dell XPS M1530 a bunch lately because a good amount of things have been going wrong with it. I have mad multiple parts replaced.
I think that my hard drive is now going dead. And I can not get a non buggy trackpad for it. I have been getting so pissed ive been thinking of selling it and getting a Macbook.
I have a Complete Care warranty which means they will replace anything for free. do you guys think that if I complained enough, and tried to convince them enough, that they would replace my laptop in whole? I am guessing they probably wouldn't, since I have had it for almost a year, but it would be worth a try. The only thing is that they no longer offer the hi def lcd that I have in it.
I have had my M1330 (yes the one with the NVIDIA 8400M chip) have had no major problems to date. However, two days ago I had some touchpad issues i.e. a sluggish, unresponsive touchpad so I decided to contact Dell. The experience was really good I go an agent by the name of Mr. Abdul Aleem who was really friendly and provided me with a form to transfer my ownership and then he fixed the issue.
Now earlier this year I contacted Dell about another machine and this wacko was telling me that since I bought the laptop at Best Buy I should go to Best Buy to deal with warranty issues despite the laptop having 1 year basic warranty from Dell.
So I was very pleased with the interaction with Mr. Aleem.
So this a thread to share your experiences with Dell's Customer Care.
My laptop is screwed, dell's repaired it a bunch of times. How much damage has to be done to just get a new one?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhy does a lithium ion laptop battery degrade over time?
The reason is quite simple. The way a lithium ion battery works is by moving lithium ions and electrons from one electrode of the battery to the other. The electrons move trough your your laptop circuitry to power it, while the lithium ions move trough some fluid to balance the electrons movement. If the lithium ions can't move through the fluid then the electrons can't move through your computer either. The problem is that the fluid that allows the lithium ions to move from electrode to electrode degrade and dry over time. As it becomes more and more difficult for the lithium ions to move it also becomes more and more difficult for the battery to power your laptop.
What makes the fluid containing the lithium ions degrade?
The fluid containing the lithium ions will naturally degrade over time at room temperature, but there are several factors that will accelerate the degradation. The first one is heat: the hotter the laptop battery the faster the fluid gets dry. The second factor is charge cycles. When you recharge your laptop battery this generates significant heat in the battery and helps degrade the fluid. Leaving the battery constantly charged also has a negative effect on the life of the fluid.............
I have sony VGN-NS190D. how do i set my laptop to charge up to 80% and stop charging the battery after it reaches 80% limit?

I want to use the battery care function, so I installed the utility, but all the options are greyed out. I tried installing the Sony shared library and the utility dll, but still nothing.
Can anyone tell me how to get it working or if it's even possible, or if there is some other way I can stop the battery charging when it reaches a certain level.
I want reinstall Vaio Care cause mine is closing after open, but I need the Vaio Care to FW 520, where I have to go to download? The site with drivers don't show Vaio Care

I used to have the ATI Radeon Pro 9800+ in it. The new 1520 has the integrated graphics. I know that sucks. I've requested consideration for a new graphics controller from Dell. If they don't give me one through support, how can I order the 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT? I can't find a Dell part number or a listing of it on the website at all!
The 1520 has a Core 2 Duo T7300 processor (2.0 Ghz). My old machine had an Intel P4 3.2G processor. Will the new processor be as fast as my old one for games?
What's the best strategy to potentially get Dell to be sympathetic that I bought the laptop for a game machine, and the fact that an integrated graphics controller does bumpkiss for games?
Is there a big advantage to getting the complete care warrenty over the standard warrenty.
Im not worried that I am going to spill something or drop my laptop so I dont think the complete care is worth it, but I wouldnt mind some feed back from people who have had first hand experience.
I am looking to sell my XPS M1530. I was just wondering if any of you could tell me how the process of transferring the warranty goes. Step by step instructions would be nice.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop LCD has some scratches on it, nothing huge, but still annoying none the less and was caused from other people in my family using my laptop and not cleaning hands etc.
There is also what appears to be something stuck (like a piece of dust or dirt) because I can see it on the screen and then projected back on towards the actual LCD.
Will any of this be covered under my still active complete care warranty? Its an xps 1640.
I recently had a terrible accident with my i9100 and sent it in for repair on 8/30. It has been over a week and I had to inquire what is going on with it. They told me it was unrepairable and wuold be replaced, however they cannot tell me with what.
The dell chat is so odd to me, my next step is calling in.
Has anyone else had the i9100 replaced with Complete Care? I hope I don't get the shaft as my i9100 was stacked to the guts when I got it back in mid-04, before the MR9800 came out.

ordered with 512 ram but had 1gb corsair xms waiting at home.
Can't really remember what else, I know all the hardware was top notch and skimped out on all the unneccessary garbage.
I think a comparable model is the 1720, but what processor is comparable/faster. I hope it's not a 1520 as that one is only SXGA. I hate arguing with Dell because it takes a long time to get the point across and to get any action.
I just bought an m1710 on ebay and it has 2 months left in complete care warranty. I also did the tranfer ownership and its under my name now. Can I use the cc warranty if the laptop gets broken?
