Dell :: Vostro 3300 Or Vaio VPCEA1X5E Decision Please

SO Ive decided on a compromise till then to tie me over. Luckily it will be purchased as a company expense
So I have to make a decision between these two laptop today as sony offer on free blu-ray ends today
I am aware that getting parts to fix sony's are a lot more harder than dell. I am also aware that the lead time for delivery on sony sytems is also a lot longer
So Here are the specs. The Vaio has options for downgrades that could bring the price down even further

For those who own the V13. Do you miss having HDMI? How's the build quality on the V13? And with the Vostro 3300 out now, the Vostro 3300 would be a better buy, no?
My brandnew DELL Vostro 3300 has arrived, some days earlier than expected.
First impressions:
- Notebook is quite small, although somewhat bigger than I thought. (But that may come from the fact that I did much webbrowsing on a Motorola Milestone yesterday :-)) - Build quality seems okay. For the price in fact good. - Notebook is very lightweight. I have to measure the exact weight, but it feels much lighter than a DELL Studio 15. - Power supply unit is very small and lightweight. Seems to be the same as the Studio 15's. - Display is bright, colours are bright, seems to be an exact (smaller) copy of the Vostro 3700 with the same very limited viewing angle (not much of a problem to me when you do mostly office work and software engineering with dark letters on bright background, but could be a problem if you want to play games with mostly dark background). - Keyboard is backlit, surprisingly good. - Display and keyboard have relatively much flex. - Battery is 4 cell, seems to last approximately 2:30 (with maximum brightness, WLAN on and light office work) - It's very fast. - It doesn't emit much heat, feels quite cool. - It's relatively silent, so far.
I have a Dell Vostro 3300. Windows 7 OS. Hard drive went out. Replaced hard drive. Reinstalled Windows 7. Used backup system disk that I made with Recovery Manager back in December 2012. It looked like it was working properly, but after using all backup disks, got message image could not be applied. Started over, reinstalled Windows 7. Put in #1 backup system disk. When drop down box is displayed asking which backup to use, I choose 12-29-2012 like I did before. Nothing happens. It just sits there. Next button can not be used (it is greyed out).
I'm thinking about purchasing a Dell Studio 15 as a replacement for my recently dead HP Pavilion dv6500. The HP is dead after 1.5 years most likely due to over heating, even though I use a laptop cooler.
Anyway I'll be using this for work, programming, watching divx/mkv connecting to my LCD TV, web surfing. This will be my first Dell laptop ever so any input from you guys will be greatly appreciated. The specs are below along with how much it'll cost: ...
I just reinstalled a HP pro 3300 SFF with a clean win 7. Download drivers from the hp site but when I try to install I get a message that no Intel components was found. Downloaded the Chipset driver along with the drivers for network but still no luck.....
im not sure if i want a graphic card in it, as it would just eat battery life and i would get nothing much out of it, since i have no plans in gaming with it.
i will be, however massively watching movies, and streaming movies (99.9% of the web, not dvd player) would that need a dedicated graphic card?
i would also like to know which are the best in terms of :
price, screen quality, build quality, weight, which ones have the same keyboard,current known issues, and are they any rumors or known news of any updates of any of these models in the next 6 months worth waiting for?
ive also bought a m1330 a few months back, but since i had some issues with school, i had to return it and delay my purchase to this year.
the laptop was getting extremely hot, like not even possible to put on my lap kind-of hot. is that issue fixed?
Trying to get rid of these questionably useful programs -- but I don't see entries for them in add/remove programs in the control panel (or for any of the other useless VAIO software packages that come on OEM machines sans "fresh start")
I have just been given a VAIO PCG8A2M (GRX316MP) , i was told "it's broken but if you can fix it yo can have it" so having a quick look at it there's no sign of life on the display but the lights come on and i can here the HDD heads moving about.
Looking a little more i found that all the ram is missing , so now im not sure if its worth buying some ram to see if it works or not ? The lack of ram would prob explain the lack of display but i wonder if i should be getting POST beeps at least, which im not.
So my question is if a VAIO had no ram should (if all else was working) it be getting POST beeps ?
Just performed a successful XP downgrade on my Vaio Z520, but have noticed that on this copy of the Vaio Silver Desktop Theme/Appearance doesn't exist.
I had it on my SZ and loved it over the XP Blue. Is there a way to get it back? I still have the restore discs from the SZ.
Actual translation should mean "ships on the 14th" assuming that means December.

- Ah, available in the UK and Australia also. - Don't see the C2D option on the UK page, looks like it's still being updated. (LINK) - Top spec option on AUS page @ a pricey $13xxAUD. Laptops are abit more expensive over there. :-/ (LINK)
I don't know whats the diference (besides the price), between VAIO TZ295N & VAIO TZ395N. Specs in all the websites I've checked say they have exactly the same components: Intel coreduo 1.33Ghz 2GB RAM DVD-RW and 64GB SSD Hardrive. I was wonder if the diference might be in the hard drive interface, with the TZ295N being PATA and TZ395N being SATA.
I'm wondering if the Blu-ray optical drive (Panasonic UJ-232A) of the (old) VAIO Z series will be able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series? I would really appreciate it if anyone is able to answer my question.
The reason I'm asking is because I'm seriously thinking of selling my VAIO Z690 & just buying the base Sony VAIO Z (VPCZ112GX/S). I may just be able to afford that base model & the icing on the cake will definitely be the UJ-232A drive being able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series & work.
I'm looking to upgrade my cheap consumer-grade laptop with something more robust. My uses are mostly software development as well as photography (Photoshop, etc.). I'm not interested in using this new machine for gaming (that would be a very secondary use).
I'm looking for a 17" laptop, so am considering both the Vostro 3700 and Precision M6500. I understand the system differences between these two machines, as well as the cost differences. Ideally, I'd like whatever I buy to last 3+ years without falling too far behind in technology, but on the other hand the Precision is very expensive (budgets suck).
Thus, would the new Vostro 3700, maxed out on configuration, be a worthwhile investment or, since I'm going to spend the money, should I go the extra mile and get the Precision? What would I miss (other than the graphics card mostly) if I go Vostro?
I've been agonizing over this for a good month or so and realize making a decision like this in a vacuum isn't going to happen, so let me know your thoughts.
I always keep my laptop plugged in so I don't use the battery. It's primary function is, in case there's a power interruption. This morning my Vostro 1500 (going on two years) started flashing the battery LED on the control panel on the palm rest.
It says 100% full...Charging !
It's been like that for 1.5 hours so I took it out. While in the machine I ran HWMon and it should a fully charged battery and the power output was equal across the board..
I have got Vostro 1400 with GeForce 8400M GS and graphic card failed... I tried to reflow the chip and it worked for 5 day and then it go wrong again...
My last chance is change motherboard... I look at ebay and I found motherboard with integrated Intel graphic... Is it possible to change motherboard with integrated VGA instead of one with GeForce VGA?
I think it should work, but I'm not sure and I don't want to be surprised after spending 200 USD on new motherboard.
Dell's has been very quiet on their successful line of business laptops. Is there any news or rumors on yet to be released Vostro's? I would like to see something new other than the A860, 1510/2510, and 1710.
