View 1 RepliesThe latest Microsoft update package downloaded 8/31 left me with an unusable laptop. The screen goes blank after entering the sign-in code. The sign-in code has been verified with an alternate computer and is verified as good. How can I get past this point and have windows 8 show up??
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a HP Pavilion computer (HP Pavilion 10: 10-e010nr). This was my first experience with Windows 9.1, but everything seemed to be going OK. Then, yesterday when I had to enter my password again, the computer began running very slowly and then seemed to lock-up; it wouldn't do anything. I held the "on button" until the computer shut down and then restarted it. When it restarted, it didn't get past the initial screen that shows "HP" within a blue circle and the small circle of small, white dots shows that it's working but nothing ever happens. I tried this numerous times, but the same thing happens.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got my new hp pavillion dv7-1000, it loaded up and i did all the registration stuff before you actually get to using the laptop but as the vista desktop loads up i closed to lid and it put the laptop on standby.
Now when i try to turn the laptop on i get to the log on screen, put in my password, it loads up and then i get a blue screen with my mouse cursor but no desktop icons or anything. I can still do control-alt-delete but i just cant see any of the other stuff.
I then booted in safe mode and i could then see everything but it looked like windows 98 not vista,
I had to format my laptop Vostro 3450 but I cannot get which drivers I have to install to visualize screen icons when a function key is pressed.The keys are working, so if I press Fn+F2 i can switch on-off my wireless connection but before formatting a spash icon was appearing on the screen and now is not.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy current problem is that when switching from the mobile power-saving GPU I lose the backlight on my screen when the high performance GPU kicks in. The HDMI output is displaying video when in High Performance, but the screen of the laptop will only show a picture with no backlight, and can only be seen by shining a light on the screen.
Just started happening the last few days, I've tried a system restore (didn't allow it), tried uninstalling all of the AMD drivers and software then reinstalling with their updated drivers, as well as the same process but with the HP drivers that came with the laptop, still the same result.Is it possible for the high performance GPU to be failing some how or is this a software issue?
When i put a DVD in no picture shows up- there is still audio and i can still click options but i cannot see what i am selecting. I also tried playing a youtube video which showed up as a green screen. Ive looked around and it says i need to update my graphics driver. I already looked on the acer website for a graphics driver download and i cannot find one.

I rarely use this machine but a couple of months ago I went to boot it up and found that I was not able to get past the Windows splash screen. Sometimes I don't even get the Windows splash screen, I just get a black screen. Rarely I get a Windows screen saying that it is diagnosing a system problem or something to that effect and I can even get to where it will allow me to do some Windows diagnostics but nothing ever comes of it and the process is extremely slow.
I called Lenovo, but of course my machine is out of waranty so the tech just gave me a few pointers and said I could send it in to the depo but the potential repair cost could range up to about 75% of what I paid for the machine in the first place. Anyways, after having me try a few things in the BIOS he suggested that it was likely the hard drive. I mistakenly thought from the time that I bought this machine that the OS was installed on the 24 GB SSD so I ordered a new SSD and swapped it in. This made no difference at all as I have now learned that the mSATA SSD drive is merely for cache to speed up booting.
I am afraid that this means the main HDD is at fault, and quite frankly, if I replace it I am going to do a fresh install of Windows 7. But I do have pictures and docs that I would like to salvage if possible.

i have a dell inspiron 1545and today i was trying to run a update and would not let me do anything till i paid out on antivirus softwere which i already have so i tried to restore the system back a couple of days now
when i turn it on it starts up and then the ask for password bot nut in the little box it used to its now a white screen with big letters so i type in the pass word then it goes to start up then
the screen goes blank and nothing happens any ideas iv tried f2 set and f12 but no good if i leave it a while even the screen saver kicks in
My laptop Acer3050.. has a black screen. What could be the problem? I've tried the toggle FN with the > or< which someone suggested nothing happen. Do anyone have any more suggestions for me to try?

I turned it on and a fan noose starts but slowly stops. I don't really hear anything from it either. I also hooked it up to a VGA monitor and the it is black as well. My screen goes competely blank after the dell logo and windows logo show up on startup.
Everything works because I can still log into windows and shut it down using shortcuts and all the normal sounds are played, there is just nothing on the screen
I have an XPS M170, with the 7800GTX card installed. Been working perfectly for several months now then all of a sudden the screen went black, and I had to force a powerdown.
(I was only browsing the web at the time).
Turned it back on, and all that happened was the power light came on, the hard drive light flickered, then the DVD seemed to power cycle (the light came on and I heard it spin), even the XPS lights came on, but that's it, nothing else.
If I leave it alone, it remains in that state with no change, hooked up an external monitor to it, and nothing there either.
hope someone can help me here. Every time i turn on my laptop all i am getting is a blank screen on my laptop and my external monitor.
i am thinking of replacing the motherboard as the graphics card is aparrently soldered to it.Before i do this could the problem be any thing other than the card? I tried running dells screen diagnostic using the beep sound but there are no sounds at all and i cannot see any warnings or errors as all i have is blank screens.
Also if i change the motherboard when i switch it back on will i have video output straight away or will i have to configure anything first?
My Son has an Acer Travelmate 7510.
It beeps three times (1 long, 2 short) on start up and nothing shows on the screen. We've plugged a seperate monitor into it and that just shows all white.

Then on Monday, when I turned it on, the screen was just black. It stayed that way for a whole 30mins and I had to turn it off. A few hours later I tried to use it again but still the same. My friend has a similar laptop and he theorizes that it must be the nvidia component at fault. Problem is, my warranty has just expired. Does anyone know how accurate his assessment is? And more importantly, how much it costs to have the nvidia replaced?

Hard drive, disc drive, everything works, or at the very least sounds like it is attempting to work as required on start up, just a blank screen. Final diagnostic points to the video card as the culprit? With all of the new systems available around $300, would like to know if it is the video card, and if it is worth the fix or just purchase an entirely new system?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have an Aspire 5610 with 2G ram running vista home premium. I had a few explorer windows open, and was getting memory warnings. I shut a few windows down, and a few hours later, the screen turned blank. I reboot the computer, but the problem persists. Now it turns out if I remove the power supply, and run it on battery, everything is fine. As soon as I instert the power supply chord, screen goes blank (black). Upon removing the power supply, if I shut and open the screen, it works again (and it also shows me a warning message that the wireless is in use, and if I really want to turn the antenna off).
The screen obviously is fine, as it runs fine on battery. I don't understand what is happening as soon as I insert the power supply, and why upon removing the power supply, I get a warning on turning off the antenna.
My laptop would not turn on at all and no lights came one so I bought a new motherboard.
Ive installed the new motherboard, but now when I turn it on the lights turn on, the fan spins, the dvd drive clicks a few times but the screen stays blank. Nothing comes on even after a few minutes. I disassembled the entire laptop again and put everything back together but still nothing comes up on the screen. I reseated the RAM and HDD but still no luck.
