HP Pavilion Dv6 Display :: Laptop Screen Will Only Show A Picture With No Backlight
Jun 23, 2014
My current problem is that when switching from the mobile power-saving GPU I lose the backlight on my screen when the high performance GPU kicks in. The HDMI output is displaying video when in High Performance, but the screen of the laptop will only show a picture with no backlight, and can only be seen by shining a light on the screen.Â
Just started happening the last few days, I've tried a system restore (didn't allow it), tried uninstalling all of the AMD drivers and software then reinstalling with their updated drivers, as well as the same process but with the HP drivers that came with the laptop, still the same result. Is it possible for the high performance GPU to be failing some how or is this a software issue?
my laptop screen backlight goes off, when I rest my hand on the left side of the touchpad. The darkening of the screen can be also reproduced when a small pressure is applied on the case just above the ethernet port or above the headphones port. When the screen goes dark, I can see that everything is running normal, if I shine on it with a lamp or strong light. The resulting effect seems to be the same as if I would have lowered the brightness to minimum. Â When I don't press the area described above, the screen is just fine. I am sure this problem is not software or OS related. I googled it a lot and my guess is lose connection on the inverter? Â One last thing - idk if related - sometimes, when I boot up the laptop, the backlight is turned off and I have to adjust it by pressing F3.
I am having a problem with my Pavilion dv6200 Â This is third time the same thing is happening to me. After i install some updates, display dimms, and background light became darker. When i restart computer, and enter BIOS, or if i am just looking at the screen before i log on to windows, backlight is normal.
I recently purchased an HP Pavillion X2 2in1 laptop and want to connect it to my TV. The laptop was recentluy upgraded to windows 8.1.  When I connect using an HDMI cable, the TV recognises that the HDMI is connected, but the laptop screen will not transmit onto the tv screen. When I hit f4 to toggle the display, it says 'Your PC cannot project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using another video card.'  When I go into control panel as recommended on other queries, the adjust resolution screen does not give me any other options than the Basic PnP display. It's like my laptop cannot detect my tv. It is not in my computer, devices or anything. I didn't attempt connecting it to my tv when it just had windows 8 on it ...
I put my laptop on sleep by closing the lid but after some time when I open the lid it doesn't show any display. I tried to on the laptop by pressing power button but it doesn't responding. I bought it around 4 months ago.
When I connect my laptop to the TV using HDMI or RGB port, picture is not completely fit to the screen, task bar is hiding at bottom. I trying to change settings in Screen Resolution or Intel hd graphic properties, problem does not fixed,
ideapad Y480: Intel Core i7-3610QM 2.30GHz, 6.00GB RAM Intel HD Graphics 4000 + Nvidia Geforce GT640m LE 750GB HDD, Dual Boot: Win8.1 Pro with MC 64bit and Win7 Ultimate 64bit
The display of my hp pavilion 15 N 043ee laptop is extremely dim. I'm unable to see anything on the screen unless I shine a flashlight onto it, and even then I can barely see. When I connect it to an external monitor it works fine. I restarted it and hit f8 to access the bios screen and it's also dim there as well. My laptop is only a few months old ....
I have an HP PAVILION G6-1241EA and I just got a new motherboard and I installed it into my laptop. My laptop turns on but the screen is white. I looked at the wire and it is fine and I tried plugging in some other monitors vga and hdmi but nothing happens. Its been a long time since I've been on the laptop.
I am pretty positive that my laptop does have a backlight. However, I didn't need it at the time and I shut it off. But now I can't turn it on. I originally remembered adjusting it through the power options and that there was a little slider to adjust the brightness of either the screen or the keyboard. I could have been wrong though, since I no longer see the second slider for the keyboard brightness. I have tried everything I could find to get the light to turn on. I used the mobility center but there is no keyboard option. I have tried the fn + spaacebar, fn +f5, and my keyboard does not have a specialized key to adjust the keyboard backlight either. How to turn on the backlight?
First of all my laptop is : HP Pavilion dv6-6160se Entertainment Notebook  To the problem now : A few days ago my laptops screen started  out of a sudden shutting down/turning black( no lights at all ). This was happening while using the laptop at random. The screen  had no lights, and if i use a flashlight on it there is nothing. like its turned off completely.
Before this happens. This behavior varies. Sometimes it flickers from my desktop to a black screen then back on and some times not. Most of the times screen changed to a random color (green mostly)Â then becomes black/shuts down.
NOTE: The laptop keeps running, i can hear the videos playing so it probably isn't a gpu chip or gpu issue , music and games.  Here are everything i tried and all or the details i could accumulate in past couple of days:  1. If the screen flickers , blacks out and then turns back on i get a message that gpu drivers have stopped working and recovered (  on both amd and intel ).  2. If the screen blacks out, on rare ocasions if you close the laptop lid and let the laptop go to sleep , when waking up screen works again ( noticable due to screen moving)  3. I tried installing 4 different drivers all with clear install. ( didn't work)  4. I tried to  to recover system with restore point. ( didn't work)  5. I tried to lower the screen brightness. ( didn't work)  6. tried this trick: Turn off laptop.. Remove battery.. Hold the power button for 30-45 seconds.. Plug-in the charger ( don't put the battery in )Turn on laptop and see if it works.Â
Very Noticable details:  7.  Since  on of the rare fixes requires to move the lid  i tried shaking the screen a bit or pushing it slightly to different directions. This actually  does the trick and turns the screen back on ( i am right now typing  this after using this "trick"  So, with this one as a hint there are a couple of stuff i have in mind but i am not sure ...  a) There is a loose LCD cable and when i type a little vibration moves it and ends up in a black screen. b) I read that if you use a flashlight and you cant see  your desktop it means its a bad inverter. c) Can the inverter have a lose cabe instead of the lcd ?   Currently the screen looks ok ( maybe its the certain angle it has after i moved it. Tried to play a game for a few mins and i got the black screen again. Closed the lid  so the laptop goes in sleep mode then opened it and it worked. Just for the records.  Just tried to play a game again. got the blackscreen, shaked the screen a bit and it worked but for the 1st time i get the message " Application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware" , Can it be that its the GPU after all or maybe drivers?  Tried to play a game again and it seem to trigger the issue . ( i am currently running the laptop with only the intel drivers installed) ...
We have two HP Pavilion dv6t-3100 CTO Select Edition Entertainment notebooks purchased at the same time. The screen on one of them has been flickering, has had to do a few recoveries, and has generated at least one BSOD. Â Oddly, the problem child's Intel driver is 8.17.0010.0029, and the AMD driver is 8.741.1.1000, dated 6/22/2010. Â But the problem-free laptop has Intel driver 8.17.0010.1043, and AMD driver 8.771.1.0, dated 9/8/2010. Â Huh? The only difference between the two is the "bad" laptop has a i7-720QM ICU whereas the "good" laptop has the slightly more powerful i7-740QM. So why the different drivers?
I have laptop listed above. For the past 3 days I hasn't not been able to get it in. it sounds like its starting but the screen stays black. Recently installed antivirus on 01/01/2012 because I had some kind of worm/malware. Windows 7 is the OS. Cap lock light is on and "hp combo assistant" light is on constant no blinking. Don't know what to do.
Laptop show black screen when switched on but there's no problem when connected to secondary  display monitor. Can still hear the startup sound though. Before this the laptop beeps when charging but stop beeping when battery is inserted.
When powering my lappie on, I can hear the fans and the hard drive start, the lights come on but there is no backlight on the monitor. I did a hard boot but nothing. I tried to get into bios pressing ESCAPE or F10 after restart but same nothingness. If I can't get my lappie working, I would at least like to get data off it.
i have a sony vaio c2z - nvidia geforce 7400; x-black lcd
i have had a lot of problems with my display since august. although i didn't notice at the time, it happened soon after i installed the Win 7 RC.

i assumed the screen was knackered, but i installed a game a few weeks ago and it brought the display back to life, only for it to look crap again when i restarted. this also happened when i did a clean install of vista, only for the display to go bad when the updates installed.
i have tried many times, but have been unable to replicate this...............
A few days ago I fired up my dv6 Pavilion 3240us and it did something weird. The colors are sort of out of whack. Bright white area show as Cyan and dark areas (black) are a sort of Burgundy or deep red. I can adjust the contrast down a little and the brightness down to -13 and the cyan mostly goes away, but the dark areas are even more more red.  I update the Catalyst app and drivers and did a complete update of Windows 7 (which took around 24 hours and it still wants more time) to no avail.  How did it happen? One day it was working perfectly and it shut down normally. The next day it was screwed up. Nothing happened to the machine between those times. I would show you pictures but I've found that screenshots of it look normal on other machines, eg: my desktop.  At one point yesterday when I tried playing a game on it the problen suddenly cleared up. That lasted for a few minutes before reverting the the screwed up state.  I am writing this on it; it does work. But trying to look at videos or most pictures or games it looks really wild, many times too strange to see what's going on.
One of our employees has an HP Pavilion G6 laptop. He uses an external display at work but has to keep the screen of the laptop open. If he closes the screen, then the video to the external display is power off. Â What are the settings to allow the laptop screen to be closed and still be able to get video to an external display.
for some reason the on screen display meter for my volume when pressing on the keyboard suddenly disappeared, I would like to get this back. I found this thread in the forum URL.... which another was having the same problem I'm having. The only difference is that I'm using HP Pavilion G7 with Windows 7.
My Dell XPS 1530 screen wont turn on. I push the power button it goes on then off, but I can hear the system starting but no picture. I have removed the battery unplugged everything and tried again to no avail. I have plugged in a separate monitor and still nothing.
I have a laptop HP Pavilion g7. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHzGraphics Unit 1: AMD Radeon HD 7400M Series Graphics Unit 2:Intel (R) HD Graphics 3000All the driver has been updated weekenden-
My problem is that I do not get the picture up when I connect it to my Panasonic TV, both during display settings and sound can see my TV, but there No picture, have tried all display settings that are possible?but it works without problems on 32 "and 40" TV but not at 46 smart TV and my 50 "TV
So I have a HP pavilion dv6 laptop with an intergrated Intel HD 4000 Graphics card and I want to run Warframe wich requiers 256 MB of dedicated memory and I only have 64.Is there any way I can increase the Dedicated Graphics memory?
I always put my laptop on standby and turn it off only when required. Today 4 hours after I left it on standby, I could wake him up from standby but could not see anything on screen which worked and all operating system sounds could be heard, hard drive worked as well. I tried powering it off and on, entering BIOS but I still could not see display. Here's a link to YouTube video that portrays what I see:
I later saw information here on how to access ePSA testing environment so I followed the steps: removed battery, plugged off power supply, pressed Power Button for 1 minute to drain power, held Fn key and powered laptop on until I heard funny sounds. This was ePSA probably but I still could not see anything on screen:
If I am not mistaken, my laptop was running on dedicated nVidia graphics card. What should I do now? Luckily I have customer on-site warranty still valid, but I am looking for a faster way to solve problem. Who knows, but it may be a mere problem of cable got lose which is in my abilities to fix.
I have one monitor connected through the HDMI interface and I would like to have another one attached as well. Can I use the VGA port (or the other flat one -- I do not know what it is called) and have the monitors work in concert? Â (Windows Vista, Pavillion dv7 laptop)
