View 2 RepliesI have a Sony VGN-NR310E with Windows XP Pro on it. The maximum memory is supposed to be 2gb. But my son showed me tonight with a 2gb chip he had just ordered for his laptop, that my Vaio would recognize 3gb of memory. Windows showed 2.99 My question is, has anyone tried this? If so, will it recognize 4gb? I want to order some memory from new egg but I will wait until I hear from others that have exceeded listed memory limits on this model.

What is the maximum memory my laptop can install?

I am trying to determine the maximum memory and configuration for my Apire 5745G i5. Is there somewhere I'm supposed to be able to find this information? I couldn't see it in any of the manuals. How much memory can I run total? How much per slot?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a ThinkPad x121e (from memory) which I like. However it has a maximum memory threshold of 8Gb.
Â
I need more memory so that I can host some Virtual Machines to do some development work - I was just wondering which current ThinkPad models supported 16Gb of RAM (not necessarily out of the box, but by purchasing from Crucial or similar).
Â
I've searched and found a page but it wasn't up to date: [URL] ....
Â
i.e. it doesn't show the X1 Carbon or the Yoga (I know it's not thinkpad) models
Â
Basically I'm after something similar to what I've got with improvements (a little bigger would be fine but not too big - say 14" max) - good battery life, can have windows 8.1, a touch screen and can get an SSD (again happy to upgrade via crucial or other third party) and can support 16Gb of RAM.
I consider buying a new notebook and T420 is a hot candidate for me. I'm not sure yet whether I would go for a Core i5 or i7 processor, however I'm sure I'd like to upgrade the RAM in the future and 16 GB . I found out in the Intel specifications that (not only) the i5 2540 and i7 2640 that are available in the T420 configurations support up to 16 GB RAM, however in the T420 specifications concerning those processors I found that only 8 GB of RAM are supported. AFAIK the memory controller is integrated in the processor in these cases, so is there another factor that limits the size to 8 GB, or is it only an improper information in the T420 specs?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a g6-2002au notebook, running Win7 home premium 64bit on dual core 64bit cpus, 2.7ghz clocks and an AMD Radeon 7520G gpu, that is mostly used to preview (for a class) movie projects created in a video editor. And for video project files - stored on a usb stick inserted into one of the usb ports - that have a playing time longer than approx 4 minutes, the play presentation runs for a while and then becomes stuttering - pauses the image for a while, altho the audio continues, then the video seems to catch up, and after a short period repeats this stop and go activity. Like the editor keeps running out of data faster than its work space is filled up.
Â
I sourced equivalent (to the original brand and specs) RAM memory to increase the installed RAM to 8Gb without apparent impact on this. A change of memory stick type - usb2 to usb3 - worked a bit but the issue remains. And disciussions with others using notebooks - Toshiba's actually - did not have this problem.
Â
The dedicated video memory in the machine is 512mb (windows display settings details), and this probably isn't enough for video editing. With 8Gb of RAM now available, there should be plenty to enable me to increase the amount dedicated for video editing. Changing that seems to be a bios function, but there isn't any apparent/accessible setting in the Insyde F.03 bios on the machine to enable me to do that.Â
Â
So, the questions are,
1. Can I increase the dedicated video memory on this specific notebook?
2. if so, how?
A friend just showed me his new Dell Vostro lappy. He has 4 GB of DDR2 800mhz memory on it when compared to my 4 GB of DDR2 667mhz memory on my XPS 1530
However, under his windows experience score - he gets 5.9 score for memory operations while I just get a 5.1. I can't believe that a couple of hundred mhz can result in such a drastic difference.
Is there something optimized for his system but not for mine?
I just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!).  It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional  It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb. Â
Â
I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory. Â All set right?
Â
Not quite.  In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2"  However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2"  Opps!  There is no "3" and there is no "4"  In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?
i having the Acer TravelMate 6493, originally it have 2GB of Memory. Recently, i have addin additional 2GB, mean that currently the system is having 4GB of Memory.
in the BIOS, showing the system is installed with 4GB of Memory, but when come into the windows, it show 4GB installed (2.90GB Usable) .....
I have a Sony Vaio FW and it states that the maximum ram is 4GB (which I currently have) on crucials and Sonys website.
However the laptop has a PM45 Mobile Express Chipset and on Intels website it states that it can take 8GB.
I bought my FW around the time they first came out last year.
My question is, will I be able to install 8 or 6GB RAM despite the limitations that Sony have said?
Have a Sony TT. Great machine.
The greatest problem is the small HD size.
What is the absolute LARGEST hard drive I can cram into a Sony TT while keeping the optical drive
I know many people have said they upgraded their ram past the "2gb limit" to 3gb or some even 4gb on a Intel GL960 chipset...but has anyone successfully upgraded their ram above 2gb with the GL960 on a Sony Vaio, or even more specifically the VGN-NR140E, or any VGN model? I'm asking because I want to upgrade past the limit, but I don't want to waste my money if it won't work, and if someone can let me know if it worked on their Sony Vaio (should have similiar BIOS) then I will be a bit more confident on my purchase.

I have a HP DV9700 laptop that I bought about 1 and half year ago. The RAMS need to be replaced, and what's the maximum RAM speed (The Mhz, not the amount of GB) can I use in this laptop?
The old one was PC5300 667 Mhz 2 x 2GB RAM
Can I use PC6400 RAM? because It's more easily available than the old PC5300.
I just picked up a new 13" MacBook Pro today and I was wondering what the best settings were for maximum battery life without turning the brightness down too low. This is my first mac so if you could sort of guide me through the process of changing the settings.

When i use the function keys to adjust it the bottom half of the brightness bar does nothing meaning the max value is not reached.  This also happens under power and control panel brightness options.
