View 3 RepliesI have a Dell Inspiron N7110 and one day I try to open Word and Excel 2010 starter , and they both won't work. I do have an older version of both and they work just fine.
The error message I get is the following: That I either try again or repair from the control panel ( not entirely sure how to do that).
well my ctrl key on my keyboard is not working ive already tried the on screen keyboard and i am able to use the ctrl key to do ctrl-c etc.etc.
could it be hardware side if so what should i do? i did not do any damage to my laptop and did not tamper with it at all.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed our new 1810T's arrow and PageUp/PageDown keys often don't respond to presses, specifically when pressed higher on the key (along the upper border as someone says in one of the 1810T owner threads). This ends up happening quite a lot the way I situate my hands over the keyboard and the touchpad, and is a serious issue for me since I'm using these keys a lot in the development environment I use. As referenced above I've seen a few mentions of this issue on the forum, but no clear confirmation whether it is normal for the 1810T. Can anyone with a 1810T out there verify whether their unit exhibits this issue?

In addition, this method does not always work.i have gone to options and I've turned off touchpad options "two fingers" mode, but nothing change.Honestly speaking, I have still in function an old notebook pc (from 2007, not Lenovo!), I need my computer for travel work but this problem becomes very difficult my job.

However, few days ago, my keyboard randomly started acting weirdly. When I would try to type certain letter/numbers, they would come out differently.
Ex. pressing the space bar would show up " ./M" instead
I tried restarting my computer many times and installed a BiOS update which fixed all of my issues except for my up and down arrow keys. As of now, they have no function; I can't scroll with them and they don't seem to be taking on the role of another key. I have tried using the keys on different programs. Using the touch pad to scroll works but I still can't use the up and down keys.
Is there anyway to get the up and down arrow keys to work again?
so this precision was originally a non baclit keyboard and recently replaced it with a backlit and the right arrow key does not work. I have checked every ribbon on this keyboard and everything is snug. I am running windows 8.1. Am I missing something here. Is it a hardware or software issue i need to look into?

View 3 Replies View RelatedOn my 1810TZ I have to use 2 hands to change brightness as FN is on opposite side of the keyboard.
If the right hand CTRL can be used as FN this would be a much better 1 hand action.
I have find myself struggling to open links in new tabs with Firefox and IE because the keyboard shortcut to perform this action is Right CTRL + Mouse Click.
Is there anyway I can swap the Left and Right CTRL assignments around in Windows?
I think I've bent one of the metal connecting parts on the actual keyboard too, so I think I'll need to replace the whole thing and not just the key.
In either case this key is not getting back on. Do current Dell Latitudes use the same keyboard, or am I going to have a hell of a time finding a replacement?
I took the key off because the button wasn't working, and sure enough there was a big wad of dust/hair blocking it...problem is I think I was too forceful when I removed it.
Notebook is a 2003 model.
Can any E440 and E540 owners confirm whether these laptops feature the ability to remap the Fn and Ctrl keys? I understand a BIOS setting provides this function on previous E-series models, but haven't found information specific to the newer models that confirms this setting is present.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a ENVY Dv6 laptop. Recently I am no longer able to reach the down arrow on my side scroll bar. It is hidden behind the tool bar on the bottom of the screen. I was able to move the tool bar and see that it is still there but I'd like to keep my toolbar at the base of the screen. Not sure if this is related, but I also used to be able to enlarge and shrink the page size with two fingers on the touchpad but this is no longer working. I am using the web via Internet Explorer.

That points toward some program that might be doing it but I don't have a clue which one.

I have a T440, and I've set in BIOS to swap places for fn and ctrl. This works great until the machine goes to sleep or similar. After awakening the machine the keys are back to their original setting, with fn being fn, and ctrl being ctrl.
I havent explored this in detail but just found the machine sporadically losing the setting, but never while I'm working on it. So either from sleep or from locked screen.
I always use FnLk as well and that is also lost when this happens. I have to restart to get back the setting for fn-ctrl swap, but FnLk i can just enable,
I run Windows 8.1 on my T440.
I've adjusted the custom on zoom to 100; I can get back to 199 by ctrl0; but some thing is interfering with the size of my script and even on email; it also enlarges photos on websites &email. I'm fed up with this whole notebook, windows 8 stuff. It even changes custom when it enlarges.
View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to figure out if this is a warrenty issue or some wacky setting that I have somehow turned on.
When I hit the spacebar, it is always preceded with the a press of the right arrow. When I press the right arrow, it is followed by a spacebar. Thus I get a kinda cool effect when I edit put the cursor in the middle of a string and hold down space bar such as: "And in the mi d d l e I w i l l s p a c e ."
So, is it safe to assume messed up keyboard?
My Dell Inspiro N5050 is having a few troubles. It was running absloulty fine yesterday and now when I power up, it sticks just before the logon page at just the black screen with the mouse. It even does the same if I try to start it in safe mode. I have run a BIOS which comes back clean. Have also tried the power off and hold the on button for 20 seconds but alas, the problem. I'm unable to do a system restore and cannot find the optipn for a factory restore.

Often when I touch the Touchpad I see the arrow on screen change to a "button" being displayed. And the button is not like using the arrow. Very difficult to work with it. So I keep moving around Touchpad to get rid of the "button" and return to arrow.
How to rid of this "button" action? Or what am I doing to cause it? I believe I have changed the sensitivity of the touchpad. I'll check again.
