After a clean install of vista on my dv5z, all the drivers have been installed and everything works properly...
one thing i noticed was that the battery manager now says
Balanced
Power Saver
High Performance
instead of
HP Recommended
Power Saver
High Performance...
I was wondering if there is any benefit of having Hp recommended instead of just Balanced, and if there is a driver or fix?
Its starting to get annoying, only being able to see the Percentage and not the remaining time. Is there a way to make it display the Battery life time? You all know what i'm talking about -- like in Dell laptops, they say
"99% 3 hours 10 minutes remaining"
is there a way to make my DV7T show the time left?
gadget that shows the time remaining for battery life for the Pavilion DV series laptops? All of the ones I have tried say the % but never show time remaining.

I have installed all the drivers mentioned in the thread and I dont have any "yellow" marks in the device manager...
The problem is With Vista there was a toolbar option that displayed "battery level", "charging status" and allowed to use the following settings
1)Power saver
2)HP recommended
3)High performance.............
I just performed a clean install on my vaio Z until I reached where I install the Battery Check Utility...now I keep getting this message!
"The installed battery may not be properly connected to the computer or may not be compatible with the computer.
Click "OK" to enter Hibernate mode and reinsert the battery!
What the hell is that? I have never removed the battery or done anything to it..the laptop was absolutely normal before the clean install!
My laptop top is not usable now...even though it's on ac power I still get this msg

Everytime I boot my computer the Battery Health Meter pops up. I was able to turn it off in the VAIO Control Center (or maybe VAIO Care) app. But I recently uninstalled both the VAIO Control Center and Care apps for other reasons and now I'm stuck with a pop up Battery Health Meter everytime I reboot. how to kill this thing?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi recently tried to do a clean install of windows vista home premium on my hp laptop, but didn't notice that the windows anytime upgrade disc i had was from my other laptop, which is 32 bit, not the 64 bit i need. Fortunately I burned system recovery discs, but I cannot get them to work. What am I doing wrong here? Ideally I'd like to avoid having to order the disc I need from microsoft if at all possible, but I cannot think of any other options.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a dv5-1235dx that i wiped clean and installed Windows 7 Professional. My first round of updates took care of most drivers like scrolling and sound. My laptop has the touch sensitive button up top for volume, mute, play, pause etc.
The volume buttons work but the volume bar no longer displays on screen and it doesnt "click" as you change the volume.
I have the HP page for drivers [url] but dont know what i need. I installed HP quick launch buttons but that didnt do it.
Does anyone know which driver it is? Also which ones should i get and is there a specific way to install them or just run them?
I know there are software apps out there that tell you how many cycles you lithium ion battery has been through plus how healthy it is

I was wondering if someone wouldn't mind listing all of the drivers & software that I need to reinstall after the clean OS install is done so I don't miss anything and also the order in which they are to be installed. Why am I asking this? Because this is my first HP, I've always had Dell's before and I realize HP has some other software for like the hard drive protection and stuff so I'm not very familiar with it.
I wasn't able to order my system with a blu-ray drive as their is a global shortage and it was only being offered on the DV8T...which is just way to big for me. HP says they put comments in my file/account that state when they get blu-ray drives in that they will either swap the drive out for me or give me a new computer because of the inconvienence. Now I'm not holding my breath on that but in case that doesn't pan out...is there anyway I can buy the HP blu-ray drive myself from somewhere online and then get it swapped out on my own? I would of course want it to match my machine, I wouldn't want to just get any drive. Also my video card is the GeForce 320M but from what I've read this supports blu-ray as well, yes?
Where is the WAU, Windows Anytime Upgrade folder located in dv5t? Or there isn't any and I have to get an Anytime Upgrade disk elsewhere. For those of you who did a clean install, where did you get the installation disk?

HP Quickplay and Windows Media Center both recognize the TV Tuner itself, and there is static snow whenever I select the TV viewing function.
Before the clean install, the TV function worked fine. I could pick up a few channels using the included antenna, and the cable TV adapter worked as well. Now, after the clean install, I pick up no channels. I was hoping it was just poor reception, but it no longer detects cable channels through the adapter as well.
I have been running my dv6700t notebook with clean install and without installing HP quicklaunch and quicktouch for almost a yr now. My blue buttons (volume, mute, media play back) are working just fine even without these installed (I have not installed quickplay, so I dont need buttons for quickplay to be working anyway). I dont care about display or sound feedback that comes up while increasing volume. So is there any other reason for these to be installed?
Only thing that I wish from these would be if they would let me increase/decrease volume quicker using blue vol. buttons. Right now it takes about 14 seconds to go from zero volume to full volume or viceversa if I constantly keep touching blue-lit vol. buttons. I like how my friends dv4t's volume zips to full from zero when he touches the same buttons. Is there any current version of these softwares that would let me do that on my dv6700t?
Is it possible to do a clean install of Windows 7 on a dv6000 laptop that currently has Vista Home Premium? I know it is possible to do an in-place upgrade but I will want to do a clean install. From everything I have read, it sounds like Win 7 will require you to have a set of original Vista install disks as verification. No actual preinstalled disk came with my HP laptop. There was a partition with a copy of the backup files but that was deleted when I created my HP backup disks. I would not be surprised if the backup disk was rejected by Windows 7 if I tried to use it for verification.

I'm not even sure how it suddenly disappeared in the first place. The reason why I want this icon to always be there is so that I can tell how much battery power I have left on my laptop. Also, when I am charging my laptop battery and letting my laptop run on AC power, the battery icon turns into the AC power icon.How do I get it to reappear? Is the icon part of the Dell Quickset program/software? I'm not sure. I have an Inspiron 1520.

why is my installation of vista freezing on the last step? its either freezing or taking a very long time. its been at the last step for about 20 minutes so far. It did this last time i tried to do a clean install with a dell disc without knowing about installing vista on hp machine with a dell disc. but now i have used vlite and made a anytime upgrade disc and took out the tell stuff according to this tut. the green progress bar isn't moving either. at the bottom of the screen where it says the upgrade may take several hours to complete, my screen doesn't have that.

I'm guessing it's driver issues but i have no friggen clue. I installed the latest drivers and updated everything that needed to be updated.
I own an HDX16T. Day 1, I burnt RECOVERY DISKS and then I proceeded with a clean install with a new vista install.
I decided to try to restore the notebook with those recovery disks. Guess what? It appears that you can no longer use those disks without having the original HP RECOVERY PARTITION?
I just simply can't use it anymore. I can't restore my notebook to factory condition anymore. The only option I have is to Click "FINISH" and reboot.
The High Definition Audio Device ha an error10 , there ios no Driver installed for this device , is there a work around available to get my sound working??
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new DV5z with the AMD Turion zm-84 and ATI radeon 3450. When I'm running on A/C power and on the high performance mode, the fan runs constantly. When I'm not even using the computer and it's sitting at idle, it still runs! It's loud...louder than a 2008 notebook should be IMO.
Is this a defect? Why won't the fan ever stop running?
I got my laptop but did not do a clean install. I just removed all the bloatware I could think of. Is there a guide to do just that though, get rid of all the stuff that shouldn't be there so that you essentially have a clean install without all the bloat or footprints of it?
