Feb 10, 2009gadget that shows the time remaining for battery life for the Pavilion DV series laptops? All of the ones I have tried say the % but never show time remaining.

Jan 26, 2009Its starting to get annoying, only being able to see the Percentage and not the remaining time. Is there a way to make it display the Battery life time? You all know what i'm talking about -- like in Dell laptops, they say
"99% 3 hours 10 minutes remaining"
is there a way to make my DV7T show the time left?

Jan 14, 2009After a clean install of vista on my dv5z, all the drivers have been installed and everything works properly...
one thing i noticed was that the battery manager now says
Balanced
Power Saver
High Performance
instead of
HP Recommended
Power Saver
High Performance...
I was wondering if there is any benefit of having Hp recommended instead of just Balanced, and if there is a driver or fix?

Mar 31, 2009I have a Dv6500 series notebook with C2D 1.5 GHZ processor and Nvdia 8400gs Graphics card.
My notebook came with vista preinstalled which i did'nt like...
so I Installed XP primarily using the guide at this location

I have installed all the drivers mentioned in the thread and I dont have any "yellow" marks in the device manager...
The problem is With Vista there was a toolbar option that displayed "battery level", "charging status" and allowed to use the following settings
1)Power saver
2)HP recommended
3)High performance.............
Sony :: Battery Health Meter
May 14, 2010Everytime I boot my computer the Battery Health Meter pops up. I was able to turn it off in the VAIO Control Center (or maybe VAIO Care) app. But I recently uninstalled both the VAIO Control Center and Care apps for other reasons and now I'm stuck with a pop up Battery Health Meter everytime I reboot. how to kill this thing?

Aug 29, 2009I am using a un2400 wwan UMTS modem on my HP 6930p (WinXP, SP3) and noticed that it is automatically deactivated when the battery isn't inserted into the laptop (PIN Code is also deactivated on the SIM card). Once the battery is installed, it works without any problems.
Can anyone confirm this being a normal issue with this modem?
(the Huawei EM770 modem on my eee 1000HG works with or without an inserted battery but it also doesn't require the firmware to be loaded first, so maybe these two can't be compared..)

Nov 23, 2008I've noticed that my battery meter/AC power icon has disappeared from my system tray. I'm not sure how to make it reappear. I'm not even sure how it suddenly disappeared in the first place. The reason why I want this icon to always be there is so that I can tell how much battery power I have left on my laptop. Also, when I am charging my laptop battery and letting my laptop run on AC power, the battery icon turns into the AC power icon.How do I get it to reappear? Is the icon part of the Dell Quickset program/software?  I'm not sure. I have an Inspiron 1520.Â

Uhm it all started with me unpacking the Notebook and noticing a french manual instead of a German one..

Oct 30, 2013My current x230 is set to "Automatically optimize for battery lifespan" under battery maintenance. I read that for this settings, it'll set your battery to hover around 80%~ base on Lenovo forum under w530 section. However, i'm always seeing my battery at 100% when AC is plugged in; Remaining capacity: 62.47 wh ; Full charge capacity: 62.47wh. Is it suppose to be lesser? I suppose it not healthy for the battery to be constantly kept at 100%. Any x230 users experiencing this too?

HP/Compaq :: DV9700 Backlight Works For 2 Sec, Then Goes Out
Jan 28, 2010I am having some strange problems with the backlight on my dv9700...I started a thread about this maybe 2 months ago but the backlight for whatever reason started working again and I didn't have too many issues with it until recently. Lately the backlight has only been working when it is plugged in...If I unplug it but leave the lid open it still works but as soon as I close the lid and open it again its out until I plug it back in and open and close the lid. Now I can't get the backlight to work at all except it lights up for 2 seconds or so upon closing and opening the lid. I removed the display bezel to access the display inverter and check for any loose or damaged connectors but they all appear to be fine...unplugging and plugging the display panel cable connector back in also causes the backlight to work for 2 seconds and then go out again. Besides the backlight issue the laptop seems to be working perfectly fine...can anyone help me figure this out? I should mention that I upgraded this laptop to Windows 7 right away when it was released.

Dell :: Miss The Volume Meter Bar
Oct 15, 2008One thing I miss going from a Inspiron 6000 to a M1530 is the onscreen volume meter bar when you press the louder and softer volume buttons on the Media Bar. On my Inspiron 6000, a gui bar pops up when you adjust the volume using the media bar buttons to let you know exactly where your volume is set at. I don't even know when to stop pressing the volume up button because I don't know when the volume is maxed out on my M1530. Anybody know of a way to make the onscreen volume meter return?

Mar 14, 2010Just a FYI for you, on Thursday i was nearly hit by a car and for some reason at that time i was carrying my DV9000 without any laptop bag or any protective anything at all... The thing dropped straight into three inches of snow.
Came back home, first thing i did was take out the hair drier and get rid of any water that the melting snow made. Second thing was to turn on the laptop, and it booted up first time. Third thing was to connect it to my amp and speakers, put on some Tech N9ne and have a beer. I actually finished the beer before the chorus ended... Then it was time to run to work, with laptop and all. Despite being exposed to cold yet again, she still did a flawless job. This going out to anyone who thinks HPs are unreliable.

Jul 22, 2009I just got my dv6-1131ea, one of the reasons was so I could have better gaming ability with the Radeon card, now I'm playing the Sims 3 and all I get is the following message when I start it up:
"We strongly recommend that you update your video driver"
Which is all well and good but I have the latest driver, there is nothing new on the HP site, or via HP Update, or Windows Update. If I try and install the latest catalyst package it tells me that I already have the most up to date driver.
The game is pretty choppy even at low settings, I have expected it to be much smoother than it actually has been, It's just not smooth and when I scroll around I get choppyness, I'm guessing it's to do with the video drivers but how the hell can I update them when I already have the latest?

HP/Compaq :: DV6000 With A -External Monitor Works But LCD Doesnt
May 27, 2009ordered another LCD and tried to replace it, to no avail. I opened it up and everything was hooked up right. Then I tried the other LCD, he gave me with it. Same thing. When I hit the fn f4 in vista, it appears to try to switch but the LCD never comes up. Also, when switching display modes, the LCD will flicker breifly (VERY BREIF). This does not smell like a video adapter or motherboard problem. I am still working on it and researching but figured I would see what all of you thought.

Jan 12, 2009I have a Compaq 3000 Laptop, it's almost 2.4 Years old now, over the period of time I dint faced any issues with my Machine.it all started yesterday.
I was watching a movie on my Laptop yesterday, after sometime the screen froze up but the movie was playing as I was able to hear whats going in the movie.
Later I tried restarting the machine, what i get is the machine boots up properly, but the screen doesnt display anything thing, it shows up a blank white screen, sometime when the windows XP loading picture comes up the screen shows light distorted colors but again goes white blank.
I did approached a local vendor for that but he says that we need to replace on the motherboard, I was not much convinced over his explanation over the issue.
I would like to know your views on what might be the problem with my Machine.
I am going to try over connecting an external monitor and see if LCD is the problem, but I would like to know more what all possible options are there which might be affecting my machine and how much would it cost me in the worst possible case.

Sep 13, 2014My laptop has been very happily connecting wirelessly for many years and all of a sudden in the last 2 days it is refusing to connect wirelessly saying there are no wireless networks. the wireless button is turned on and all other devices in the house connect. I have tried wired via an ethernet cable and all is fine. I have tried updating the driver and backing out to the previously installed driver and neither resolves the issue.
